I love listening to nostalgic stories like these. They’re so special, and many can relate on a deep level. I also love Alex’s amount of The Simpsons references in each of his videos
My first Nintendo system was a Gameboy Advance, on which my first game was the undisputed classic: Shrek Swamp Kart Speedway. Also, these discussions are always such a delight. Just splendid.
@@RodaMoonknight Stands for "Absolutely Torqued & Trousered", it's when you are very very very drunk but somehow still able to game well competitively. The trouble is, as soon as you stand up, you're done haha it was popularized in the professional mario kart barcade scene actually
That animal crossing footage at the start is incredibly nostalgic. Recently i got my old game, and "backed up" the save file to my PC. Jumping back into my old village after 15 years and seeing all the different pixel art patterns, made from the clothes feature. Its amazing! I might even do a tour of my old town for avideo one day. Would be super nostalgic
I remember on Christmas, I was like 8, my older brother dressed up as Santa and surprised me with a GameCube with Mario party 7 and was overwhelmed with joy. I still have it today and the memories as well
I think my first Nintendo game was Mario Kart Wii, I was in kindergarten when my dad got the Wii and a bunch of games for it. We continued to get Wii games at birthdays and Christmas until we got the Switch in 2017. Great memories!
For me, the GBA will always be my favorite. So many good memories with it. First game was Pokémon FireRed, but it was also how I first experienced final fantasy, metroid, and more
Wii Sports is the game that got me into games,Mario Galaxy was the first game that made me say "Wow", and Breath of the wild was the game that made me want to always branch out and try new games. So, I have Nintendo to thank for my love of gaming
That's crazy! I had a very similar experience. Wii sports and mario kart wii got me into games. Breath of the Wild was my wow game, and Hollow Knight was the game that inspired me to branch out and try new genres.
@@andrewpratt8081 that's awesome! While Breath of the wild is the game that made me branch out and is my fav game of all time, Undertale is still the game that impacted me the most in terms of the way I see games now
I always enjoy these long videos of you guys chatting about games. Keep this stuff up :) To Jon. The Rayman renders are very similar but aren't exactly the same. His mouth is open a little more in one than the other and his right hand is in a fist while the other isn't. To Alex. They're ATATs. I've just watched the old star wars movies recently. An outside couch with a beer can on the ground... always classy Alex. Lol To Zion. I have a similar story about selling my gameboy and games to upgrade as well and I absolutely regret it. It was when the gameboy color had been out for a little while and games were mostly being sold as gameboy color games. I still had my DMG-01 and a good handful of games like pokemon blue, links awakening, super mario land 1 and 2 and I went to a game store as a kid and asked what I would need to trade to get a GBC. He said all of it, and so I stupidly yet happily did... I ended up pulling a link cable out of my pocket after the deal was made and the guy said "oh and that" and snatched it from my hand. My dad had none of it and snatched it from his hand and said that wasn't part of the deal... at the end of it I walked away with a "new" used game oy color and 1 game I left at home. The kicker... the only gameboy color he had at the time was that redish pink one. I guess we both sacrificed our old systems and our preferred color for new hardware. You're not the only one who's forgot the wii u. Lol
The games that really started the 3DS lineup for me were ghost recon shadow wars and the port of tales of the abyss. really kept me busy until all the first party gems arrived
As Jon says, my stories become far more uninteresting when it comes to the "newer" systems. I either missed out on some or bought them during college or later. I missed out entirely on the GBA, though I don't really know why I missed the boat there. I think at that time I became a Sony boy, only because of Final Fantasy and fighting games, but I still had an N64 and SNES that I played regularly, so I never forgot my roots! I did have friends and girls that I dated that did have GBAs, and sometimes while we were at the mall waiting for a movie, they'd break theirs out and do some trading in Pokemon or play something in Animal Crossing I didn't really get into the GBA until I got into emulation for it and scoured through forums for different rom links that were usually fake or behind paywalls. Kids have it so easy now. My DS story is kind of interesting though. I remember I was about to end my first semester or third (it was a fall semester), and I had a similar moment to Alex where I just wanted a Nintendo system, so I told my mom I'd love a Gameboy Color for Christmas (I still hadn't managed to snag a part job yet), and she answered back with "why get the old thing? I'll get you the new system!" so I didn't want to disagree, and ended up getting a black DS Lite with New Super Mario Bros., but also Castlevania Portrait of Ruin!! I could NOT put down PoR if I tried, and must have drained the battery on my DS at least 3 times while I was still at home for Christmas break. The last system I ever received as a gift before I had actual big people money (or traded in a lot of shit to Gamestop) was the Gamecube, and I made out like a bandit with that one. It was in the waning years of the system, so there were already a bunch of bundles and price cuts (remember those? ) by the Christmas I got it. My mother asked me for a Chrsitmas list and I thought "well, it's time to get a Gamecube I guess", so that Christmas I got a Platinum Gamecube bundle with Mario Kart Double Dash for $100 USD along with Wind Waker for another $20 and a Platinum Wavebird controller. Total cost for al that awesome stuff was sub $200, even including that I grabbed Metroid Prime 2 at full price at the time. None of those games were quite as magical as Portrait of Ruin for me, but I had a great time with friends with Double Dash. The following summer, they'd come over every night until 4 AM and we'd play hours and hours of Mario Kart, and when Strikers came out, hoo boy. After that, every system was a matter of "Tony goes to store. Tony picks up game console. Tony buys and plays with game console. It's a good time." I have a lot of life memories attached to the various 3DS systems I owned culminating with the New 3DS XL sitting on a shelf behind me, but now I'm rockin' the Switch/PC combo. P.S. Zion's grandparents sound amazing.
More stories? Love this. Every game has a fascinating tale behind it. GBA had a fantastic library. Castlevania: Circle of the Moon, and Metroid Fusion were my first pickups for the GBA. I did several summer jobs, to save up for them. A worthwhile purchase. Bummer about the handheld darkness, having to find a source of light. I did not find an SP. But I did find a GB Player. Fusion was incredible, from start to finish, SA-X is another story. New suit, new adventure, unknown creatures, chilling atmosphere, and an awesome soundtrack. Unlocking the original Metroid was sweet. But dang it was fun to play a new Metroid game, plus the connectivity with Prime. Castlevania: CotM was a surprise. Difficult, challenging, but the art style, animation, and music were fantastic. I actually liked the card based attributes, and skill system. Next to Fusion, I obtained Prime for the GameCube. Tough to choose which to play first. So I alternated playing Fusion, then Prime. Even though Fusion, being a handheld title, was not very long, but it was intense. Prime was surreal, with its visuals, soundtrack, controls, atmosphere, and world building. Plus being behind the visor was insane. It was beautiful, and I managed to scan everything (also had the guide) since it also contained the map for the original Metroid. Also the Fusion suit was playable in Prime. To see it featured in 3D was marvelous. Absolutely loved it DS. With it being tough to find new, I found a used one. But it had a crack on one of it's hinges. I was able to fix it with gorilla glue. Cleaned up the screens. Plus the d pad, and buttons. Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow It was a tough one to find. But a neat entry. Took some getting used to with the stylus. I wasn't too crazy over the new art style, it did display emotions it just felt weird. Loved the story. Plus the soul steal had even more variety. A vast map to complete, but the music, and level design was fantastic. Wii: I found a used one, but it was missing the faceplate. Since it was used, it wasn't taken care of. I took it apart, and cleaned it. Also turns out the disc tray was stuck, a copy of Mario Party was the culprit. Took the disc tray apart to free the poor thing. Was able to save it, but it had a few scratches. I did find a few games, but at the time, it was right before the servers for the Wii were going offline. I made sure to save data on a memory card for the next user to use. I wasn't too crazy over the Wiimote, but it had neat ideas with games. Switch: I was able to find an Animal Crossing model. Love the design. (But I have not played Animal Crossing since the GameCube) Thanks to a recommendation from someone special, I found a copy of LoZ BotW. That was my first Switch game. Still ongoing thru the game, but I absolutely love it. Tricky to adjust with breakable weapons. But so much to see, and explore. Lush visuals, atmosphere, vast over world, excellent controls. It is an incredible game.
I'm old, but my first Nintendo memories were of playing Donkey Kong at my local when I was 10, then DKJR, and Popeye. Then DK on ColecoVision, in 1982. My brother and I talked our parents into buying us a CC for Xmas that year.
I remember pre-ordering a 3DS from the local GameStop. Went on launch day, got it, brought it home, turned it on and saw the SFIV logo on the screen. I was like "huh? Is it an ad for the store? Is it a demo? What is this?" I flip the 3DS over and see there was a SFIV cartridge in it. Well the night before the GameStop had a like hands on preview sort of event and apparently used mine as part of the event. So I was charged full price for a technically used system, I was pretty mad and thought "well F you, I'm keeping this." Later I would find out, by my friend that worked there at the time, that the manager was pretty pissed that they could not find this copy of SFIV.
I missed the Game Boy Advance and GameCube era. Only finally experienced it just 3 years ago and I'm so sad I missed it but loving everything I find about it now. My first game for GBA was Minish Cap and for GameCube was Metroid Prime.
FYI - the Naboo fighter was in the original Rogue Squadron game on N64 and PC; I know because I got it there. The Hoth cables were tough in the PC original title too. Never played Rogue Leader, though. GBA: Golden Sun, full stop. I still had the Fantasy JRPG itch from Dragon Warrior Monsters and Zelda Oracles, and Golden Sun caught my eye immediately. It’s been a 20 year love affair ever since. I’m a member of the Temple of Kraden! Absolute favourite video game of all time. I remember that I bulldozed through the game and was only Level 25 during the final boss fight (got Isaac to 26 after the first phase and learned Potent Cure) and couldn’t win! I had only gotten Isaac’s Level 13 Ragnarok just in time for Colosso, after all. So I restarted the game and this time took my time and discovered all the secrets and this time won. GBA was the system I used the most - Pokémon, Zelda, Golden Sun games, but also Final Fantasy rereleases, Super Mario Advances, and the two Metroid titles. NGC: I don’t remember the exact first game, but I remember we got deep into Smash on N64, and that we got a NGC mainly to get Melee. We def played a lot of Luigi’s Mansion, Mario Sunshine, Power Tennis, Double Dash, Animal Crossing, and of course Wind Waker, Prime, and Colosseum. This was another major console for me and my family. We played like everything worth getting on the console. By the way, I learned of Fire Emblem through Melee, and later got Sacred Stones on GBA, and now have played and loved every single entry! NDS: I got Metroid Prime Hunters: First Hunt as a pack-in game. The first “real” DS game I played was Mario 64 DS. This console was mainly for Zelda and Pokémon, but also Chrono Trigger and FF & Dragon Quest remakes and of course Dark Dawn. I also remember a lot of playing Brain Age, and I TOO scratched my touch screen with the stylus - mainly from Final Fantasy IV DS and Mario 64 DS mini games requiring a lot of scratch lines, but later also with the two Zelda titles’ heavy usage of the screen… Wii: I skipped out on Twilight Princess here because I got a Wii REALLY late as I was happy with the GameCube and had Twilight Princess on there (I was indignant that they flipped the map and broke the canon for the Wii version and also made link not left-handed - I am a lefty). We got a Wii in 2011, the family edition that lacks GameCube disk and controller compatibility, SPECIFICALLY to play Skyward Sword. Though the console also came with New Super Mario Bros. Wii as a pack-in. I think I tried it like once, though. Later in 2012 I’d get Metroid Prime Trilogy, Xenoblade Chronicles, and download some games off the virtual console like Shining in the Darkness, FF IV: The After Years and Punch-Out!! (Wii). 3DS: I got this RIGHT after the price drop so missed out on the ambassador games. I did get Ocarina of Time 3D alongside and later on it became my most-beloved system. But it was definitely a slow start. I remember my first app used was the 3D Camera at an event at a local park. Wii U: this was the first console I bought with money from a paycheck I earned my own from work after college. First title was Nintendoland, though I mostly used it to play Wii titles like Xenoblade Chronicles until Wind Waker HD came out. It was my primary Netflix player, too. This is another console I went all in on and bought and played most major titles released for it. A friend got the white one a year later or two with Mario 3D World.
One of the first video games I played was Warioland 4. As a child, I found the bosses to be terrifying. The music and overall atmosphere of the game would always have me going back to it.
first videogame system: Gameboy Pocket at some point in the 90s. I don't really have many memories of it until I got Pokemon Red. From then on I have lots of memories with it. first home console: got a gamecube for xmas 2001 Also of note: As someone who lost interest in Nintendo at some point during the Wii/DS era and who was roped back in by the Switch, I didn't purchase a WiiU until ~6 months after I got a switch. (Switch: late 2018, WiU first half of 2019) While some may question that, it was cheap and I've saved a lot of money buying wiiU versions of games like Tropical Freeze and 3D world for $10 rather than full price versions on switch, more than enough to make up for the price I paid for the console, and what a lovely little system the WiiU is.
Alex! never stop being a linguistics nerd. i am the one in the comments who is pleased. BUT even without an explicit comparand you MIGHT argue that a comparative like "newer" can generate an implicature of "somewhat new" (maybe relative to an implicit context of "stuff we consider sort of old"). food for thought, peeve on!!
I had a similar experience to Zion and Mr Driller with Marvel Versus Capcom 2 and the Xbox 360. Me and my brother fell in love with the game in an arcade that held some family birthday parties. And my brother got a 360 for his birthday in October and for Christmas my Mom actually took a shoebox and printed out MVC2 art and put it in the box with some gold membership and Xbox points. I remember being so excited to finally own MvC2 and play it whenever I wanted. (We didn’t own an original Xbox or PS2.)
I had a friend who made me watch the games as well, but at least he let me play a bit too, but it was on PC, so when we played fight games, I always got the “worse” side of the keyboard and the computer never responded to too many bottoms being pushed at the same time
Never owned a GC, Wii or Wii U. I played some GC because relatives and close friends had it, some Smash and Mario Kart, Strikers, some other games, but overall my memories of the GC aren't that expansive and fond. My first Wii game played was Wii Sports. My cousins had it (we had PS3, my other cousins had 360, and these guys had the Wii, we liked to say we all own the trilogy lol), but I remember going to their house and just playing it for hours. Loads of fun. Mario Kart, and Smash were also some games we played a lot, along with Mario Slugger, and some others. I do not have a lot of Wii U memories. No one in my family owned this one and my experience with it is limited to one friend had it so I played it a handful of times at his house. Only Mario Kart and Smash (and i'm not even sure it was the Wii U version) Now for GBA. My dad brought it home for us one day as a surprise on Eid, me the black one, and my older brother the blue one. We went to Fry's Electronics after Eid Prayer to buy games. I can't for the life of me remember what my brother got, but I mistakenly got Quad Desert Fury because I thought racing ATVs in the desert was a sick concept. It still is, but my god the execution on that game was awful... For NDS, We got it again on Eid, but this time it wasn't a surprise. I got the Black DS Lite, and my younger brother got the White one. My older brother skipped out and got a PSP. I got Mario Hoops 3-3 (I LOVE this game) and my younger brother bought a TMNT game. Good times. For 3DS, my little brother got it first, he bought OoT 3D and Mario 3D Land, I didn't have any games I wanted to play badly enough to get one for myself, so I just used his when he wasn't (we didn't mind sharing at all, we were all really close with each other). It wasn't until Winter 2013 (my senior year of high school) that I decided to buy myself a Red 2DS and Pokemon Y. My cousin and I were just chillin one day and went to Target and I pulled the trigger on it. I later bought a New 3DS XL Galaxy second-hand For Switch, I was trying to buy at launch, but I wasn't able to until a month or so later. I bought MK8D and BotW once I managed to buy one
It was 1994 and my mom bought me Gameboy with Tetris and Super Mario Land: 4 coins. I played those games for years! The next one I got was Donkey kong vs Super Mario on GB in 1996. After that I bought GBA in 2000 and got Super Mario World 3(?) with Yoshi, Metroid Fusion, Zelda and Yoshi's Island. those were the days...
My first handheld system was the original GameBoy and my first game was Tetris. My first console was the GameCube and my first game for that was The Sims Bustin Out. I remember going back and finding The Sims for GameCube after that, after finding out that I could link the GameCube and GameBoy Advance to send my Sim back and forth between the two with the Link cable.
GBA released in March 2001. My mom bought me one on our family’s trip to New York in July, 2001. I was so excited. We had no idea that the world was about to change for the worse…Maybe playing that GBA back then was like people enjoying the last carefree days of summer 1914.
I got the glacier GBA with Castlevania CotM at launch. It was hard to see the screen due to no backlight, but it was still fun. For me the GBA really took off in highschool when GBA SP came out and I got a cobalt blue one. Just about everyone had a GBA SP at school because it was so easy to hide and to bring out on the bus or in study hall. Fire Emblem and Advance Wars were my among my favorites to play on the SP.
My first console was the Wii and I got Mii Party on it, a bunch of shovelware like a Disney Princess version of U Draw, I got Wii Sports Resort and all the other Wii games I played with my cousins on their Wii. Then I got a 3DS in 2015, and it was meant to be the New 3DS XL, which is apparently what my mum ordered, but we got a 3DS XL. My first games on that were Mario and Luigi: Dream Team Bros and Mario Golf: World Tour. I played DTB first and I think that's how I fell in love with Mario games. I loved it so much, and still do! Then I only heard of the WiiU bc my cousins got it, and I got it the Christmas after. It was bundled with Mariokart 8, and I also got Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash. I loved both games (yes, even Ultra Smash bc I didn't have much to compare it to) and I got Nintendoland after played it A LOT with my cousins, and it was one of my favourite games on there. That's the end of my incredibly long console story. If anyone actually bothered reading this, then I'd be surprised 😂
My first Nintendo game was super Mario world on my moms SNES. Rebel Strike was a game my dad bought me when we went to GameStop at the spur of a moment. To this day I still don’t know why we went there that day or why he got me that game, but I got a great game that I was too young to beat because it was too tough for 7 year old me.
My first Nintendo console was the DS, I had NSMB and Nintendogs. I also had some EA games like MySims kingdom and some LPS games, and probably some more stuff falling under the "Shovelware" category. I got that on the Christmas of 2009. I had a Wii around the same time. I played NSMBW, SMG, SPM, Wii Sports, Wii Play, MP9(...), and some other games like Just Dance 2, and MySims. I remember going over to my friend's houses and playing NSMBW and jumping on each other's heads because we were playing with the maximum number of players, so chaotic lmao. And bringing my DS to my after school program and playing on that while watching my friends play at the same time. EDIT: whoah I forgot all about download play, I think I only used it once at a lame family reunion and omg that turned the whole thing around and I had a blast playing with my cousin :)
Bought my first 3ds last month because I wanted to play the Zelda games. Bought it used from GameStop along with A Link to the past. Ordered Majora’s and Ocarina in the mail. I had a game cube as a kid and a wii but the switch was my first handheld system.
Funny fact: When I got my SNES back holiday 1992, my first game was not Super Mario World. Nope, my family bought me just the console, bought an extra controller, and the game they bought with it was Street Fighter 2. To this day, I have to believe that cost way more money than if they had just bought the pack in SKU and then I could get SF2 down the line. I might have been the only person I knew who had to buy SMW from Toys R Us. I felt like “can I really buy this ubiquitous game for full price?” But in the end it all worked out.
That's Ghost Trick. Probably in my top 10 DS games. It's a visual novel/puzzle game made by the same guy who created the Ace Attorney series. Basically you play as the spirit of someone who has recently died and you have to manipulate various objects in each area in order to prevent other people from dying and stuff like that. The puzzles are pretty cool and the story is really great and has some nice twists at the end. If that sounds like something you might even be slightly interested in, i would highly recommend it. Unfortunately, it is fairly expensive now, but if you're able to get a hold of it somehow, that'd be awesome.
@@JustinBae No problem! I'm not sure if you know who Matthewmatosis is, but he has a pretty good recommendation video on it. He usually does super in depth reviews where he analyzes a game thoroughly, but for this game, he avoids giving spoilers and just kind of shows you what the game is like and why he wants more people to play it. Here's the link if you'd like to check that out ua-cam.com/video/usqdCphyM2o/v-deo.html
First GBA game was Metroid: Zero Mission, because I waited until they released the SP so that I wouldn't have to rely on buying batteries all the time. First Gamecube game was Super Smash Bros. Melee, my friend kept playing it with me on his console, and I ultimately decided that I must have a copy of this game and console for myself. First DS game was Super Mario 64 because I was never good at playing the original game so this allowed me to play it with more ease and a lot of additional features. First Wii game was Super Paper Mario which I bought on discount before I even got the console (took me a few months to finally get a Wii). First 3DS games were Super Mario 3D Land and Nintendogs + Cats when they were bundled with the handheld. First Wii U game was New Super Mario Bros. U, got it on launch day when I picked up my deluxe Wii U.
Nintendoland is still a favourite here. Metroid blast, super mario chase and zelda are absolute classics. It's a crime that the wii u wasn't more popular. 100% down to nintendo marketing
Hey gents love this topic, lots of memories and also feeling my age I bought a GBA w/ SuperMarioKart and then Metroid Fusion I bought my Cube of a friend w/ Metroid Prime, Zelda Windwaker, Luigi’s Mansion, X-men legends, MarioParty 4 & 6, Zelda FourSwordAdventure, and Rogue Squadron 2 My brother gave me his Wii w/ Zelda Twilight Princess, WiiSports, Red Steel, Marvel Alliance, NeedSpeed Underground, and Metroid Prime3 I got a free red DS w Wario Ware Touch and bought the Brain Age games and SuperPrincess Peach My brother again gave his 3DS w/ Zelda LinkBetweenWorlds, Fire Emblem, and Star Fox. I went on to buy Mario Kart 7 as my first buy. My girlfriend bought me the WiiU w/ Zelda Windwaker and Assassins Creed, then I bought Nintendo Land Lastly a friend got me a Switch lite w/ Marvel UltimateAlliance and Puyo Puyo/Tetris, then the first game I bought was Streets of Rage4
I remember getting a Super Nintendo (thats what I called it. Didn’t learn about calling it the SNES until years later) for Christmas. I got Super Mario World and played that all of the time. I got Super Mario Kart later and those were the only games I remember having for the SNES.
I picked all my systems you after Launch! I remember GameCube - Billy Hatcher & the Giant Egg DS - Super Mario 64 3DS - Animal Crossing New Leaf Wii - Twilight Princess Wii U - Wind Waked HD
For Gameboy Advance my first game was Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga, and that game blew me away as to how much content could be crammed into a handheld.
I discovered Nintendo through Super Mario Sunshine and Wind Waker Gameplays and plushies, then i played the first Mario game and some years later i played SM64 in emulator along with Pokémon Fire Red and Tloz oot afther that i became a Nintendo fan
My first Nintendo game would be Mario Kart 64. The second one would be Brain Age for the Ds, but I think that I never had experience a Nintendo standalone game until Kirby Squeak Squad, which to this day is one of my favorite games, and probably the one that I have replayed the most.
I believe my first GBA game was Sonic Advance, first DS game not counting the Prime Hunters demo was Super Mario 64 DS, and first Wii game not counting Wii Sports was Twilight Princess. As far as memory serves.
Seeing All Those Emo 🖤 Pictures Of The Nintendo Life Members Made Me Laugh My Head Off Because Back Then I Was This Hippie Wearing Pastel Colors With Rose Flower Crowns💐In A Sea Of Emo’s While Handing Out Pamphlets On Saving The Rainforest Or Endangered Animals In Our School’s Environment Club.💐 It Just Really Brings Back That Era Or Nostalgia Of Turning On The T.V. Aside from the SMB/Duck Hunt combo cartridge that came with the NES, mine was Legendary Wings. Which I *almost* beat once, but could never quite pull it off.
Pokémon Ruby was the first Pokémon game I finished all by myself. I watched my older brother play up to Gen 2 because I couldn't read English properly until I was 10 (it's my second language). I had the Indigo Purple GBA all through its lifecycle and still regret trading it in for a DS Lite. My other favourite games were Sonic Advance 2 and Minish Gap which was the last Zelda game I played before BOTW.
I got a DS only a few weeks after my brother, and my parents were so nice that they wanted me to have the same experience as my brother that they were going to buy me a game. My brother got Mario 64 DS and I was so convinced I need to play a game that I settled for the launch game Spiderman 2
My first console was a white GBA. I think the first game was Golden Sun. It might also been Fire Emblem or Advance Wars. I picked up a Game Cube holiday 2003. There was a bundle available that came with a platinum colored GameCube, two controllers, and Mario Kart double dash. I don’t remember if I got a DS first or the Wii. DS is pretty boring. I just bought it at the store. In hindsight I should have waited for the DS lite. My first DS game was Advance Wars Duel Strike. Like most people, I had trouble finding a Wii until one day I spent all day looking at the stores until I found the last store had just received some in stock. My first Wii game was Twilight Princess. I was one of the first adaptors for 3DS. I don’t remember my first 3DS game. My game logs says Super Street Fighter IV. I bought a WiiU on launch day. I got the deluxe version which came with Nintendoland. I also picked up New Super Mario Bros WiiU. I upgraded my 3DS to the XL version because there was a promotion where if you bought an XL and a game then you could get Pokémon X or Y for free. I also upgraded to the new 3DS. I never bought any new 3DS specific games although Hyrule Warriors should have be an exclusive. I was able buy a Switch on launch day. They told me they ran out of the ones with the neon red/blue Joy Con. They just had the grey ones. That was fine with me. I also preordered the special edition of Breath of the Wild.

The music, the visuals, the storybook vibe… all made for a great introduction to Nintendo.

I know its a month old but i really love these discussion videos! They are so nice to just sit back and relax and listen to. Thank you!
This was a real pleasure to listen to. Brought back fond memories of playing the Gamecube and Wii for the first time.
I remember on Christmas, I was like 8, my older brother dressed up as Santa and surprised me with a GameCube with Mario party 7 and was overwhelmed with joy. I still have it today and the memories as well
I am pleased that the Bronze Age is newer than the Neolithic age. Thank you Alex, you’re a lovely person
-Alex, not from Nintendo Life
I just think he's neat!
I read this as he said that
Golden Sun 1 and 2 where my favorite games. I got in trouble for playing them to much from my parents lol
Lol, i don't blame you. Those are some of my favorite RPGs to this day.
First game was Pokémon FireRed, but it was also how I first experienced final fantasy, metroid, and more
i want your childhood Zion. I wish I have grandparents like yours since i was not able to see them. Love your stories man
Zion's grandparents sound amazing.
Mario kart ds was such a fantastic way to not only introduce me to the mario series but the mario kart series as well
Wii Sports is the game that got me into games,Mario Galaxy was the first game that made me say "Wow", and Breath of the wild was the game that made me want to always branch out and try new games.
While Breath of the wild is the game that made me branch out and is my fav game of all time, Undertale is still the game that impacted me the most in terms of the way I see games now
God lads, that footage of Peach and Mario trying to get on the carpet is absolutely killing me, I had to turn away for a second.
Rogue Leader was an incredible launch title! I remember being amazed that games could look that good.
At this point then can make a compilation Jon talking about his friend and have a whole episode about it
I hope that friend randomly stumbles across one of these videos someday
Yes ! Thank you so much guys for making this. I'm gonna enjoy the next hour now.
I am from Wisconsin and used to go to that Wausau mall. The toy store there was the only thing good in that mall. Good Memories
My first Nintendo experience in my life was Super Mario Bros/ Duck Hunt for the NES back in 1994.
That photo of Alex was taken in the dark ages of the universe; those dark and bleak ages that came before that glorious day on which he found Doshin.
I always enjoy these long videos of you guys chatting about games. Keep this stuff up :)
To Jon.
Lol
To Zion. Lol
Had a picture of windwaker and thought for a moment, "did you mean memory card?"
The games that really started the 3DS lineup for me were ghost recon shadow wars and the port of tales of the abyss. really kept me busy until all the first party gems arrived
I am the one in the comment section that is pleased by Alex's history quote
Absolutely loved it
DS. With it being tough to find new, I found a used one. But it had a crack on one of it's hinges. I was able to fix it with gorilla glue. Cleaned up the screens. Plus the d pad, and buttons.
Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow
It was a tough one to find.
(But I have not played Animal Crossing since the GameCube)
Thanks to a recommendation from someone special, I found a copy of LoZ BotW. That was my first Switch game. Still ongoing thru the game, but I absolutely love it.
Tricky to adjust with breakable weapons. But so much to see, and explore. Lush visuals, atmosphere, vast over world, excellent controls. It is an incredible game.
Zion and Jon are the best parts about Nintendo Life. Thank you both for making my day u guys are the best and so fun to listen to 🥰
I'm old, but my first Nintendo memories were of playing Donkey Kong at my local when I was 10, then DKJR, and Popeye.
It feels a bit inappropriate, but your story made me chuckle at the end, friendo.
I also remember a lot of playing Brain Age, and I TOO scratched my touch screen with the stylus - mainly from Final Fantasy IV DS and Mario 64 DS mini games requiring a lot of scratch lines, but later also with the two Zelda titles’ heavy usage of the screen…
Wii: I skipped out on Twilight Princess here because I got a Wii REALLY late as I was happy with the GameCube and had Twilight Princess on there (I was indignant that they flipped the map and broke the canon for the Wii version and also made link not left-handed - I am a lefty).
From then on I have lots of memories with it.
first home console: got a gamecube for xmas 2001
Also of note: As someone who lost interest in Nintendo at some point during the Wii/DS era and who was roped back in by the Switch, I didn't purchase a WiiU until ~6 months after I got a switch.
The windy apple - Alex was on fire today!
Regarding Zion's story regarding the GameCube and his grandfather. I'm not crying, your crying.
“The Windy Apple”
Zion's grandpa is my hero. Can we get a video with him and Zion? 🥳
Only Mario Kart and Smash (and i'm not even sure it was the Wii U version)
Now for GBA.
I later bought a New 3DS XL Galaxy second-hand
For Switch, I was trying to buy at launch, but I wasn't able to until a month or so later. I bought MK8D and BotW once I managed to buy one
The gameboy advance(pokemon ruby) made me fell in love with videogames and the switch(xenoblade chronicles 2) reminded me why I love them so much!
I got my first Gameboy colour (Green one) when I was 6 with Pokémon Yellow and Ernest the chicken. Had everything Nintendo since
I got the glacier GBA with Castlevania CotM at launch.
My very first game was super Mario bros on the original NES because my dad showed it to me when I was younger.
My first Nintendo game I owned for myself was new super Mario bros on the ds, I still remember playing hours of Mario v Luigi with my brother
I’m glad Jon enjoys bathing so much-it’s the little things in life, you know.
GameCube, GBA, and PS1 were my childhood
My first GBA game was Golden Sun as well. Got them both at a flea market while on vacation in 2003
My first console was the Wii and I got Mii Party on it, a bunch of shovelware like a Disney Princess version of U Draw, I got Wii Sports Resort and all the other Wii games I played with my cousins on their Wii.
Those 2000s photos where amazing😂
Kirby's adventures! I got it with my first nes console in my 5 years old Christmas back in 1996 ❤
My first Nintendo console was the DS, I had NSMB and Nintendogs.
Young Jon and young Zion appear to be the same person 🤔
My first game I ever owned was Need for Speed Underground that I got together with a GBA on my birthday.
I felt like “can I really buy this ubiquitous game for full price?” But in the end it all worked out.
most memorable game i remeber is banjoo and kazoo i got it with the n64 i must have been 5 6 and it was a great generation
Yoshi's little petite flipping Island is an underrated gem
Whats the game at 29:54?
@@thejeremyzombie5163 thanks! I'll look into it
@@JustinBae No problem! Here's the link if you'd like to check that out

Those pics of Jon and Alex are killing me
First GBA game was Metroid: Zero Mission, because I waited until they released the SP so that I wouldn't have to rely on buying batteries all the time.
U, got it on launch day when I picked up my deluxe Wii U.
you just made me feel super old haha
Nintendoland is still a favourite here. Metroid blast, super mario chase and zelda are absolute classics. It's a crime that the wii u wasn't more popular. 100% down to nintendo marketing
Hey gents love this topic, lots of memories and also feeling my age
I bought a GBA w/ SuperMarioKart and then Metroid Fusion
I bought my Cube of a friend w/ Metroid Prime, Zelda Windwaker, Luigi’s Mansion, X-men legends, MarioParty 4 & 6, Zelda FourSwordAdventure, and Rogue Squadron 2
My brother gave me his Wii w/ Zelda Twilight Princess, WiiSports, Red Steel, Marvel Alliance, NeedSpeed Underground, and Metroid Prime3
I got a free red DS w Wario Ware Touch and bought the Brain Age games and SuperPrincess Peach
My brother again gave his 3DS w/ Zelda LinkBetweenWorlds, Fire Emblem, and Star Fox. I went on to buy Mario Kart 7 as my first buy.
My girlfriend bought me the WiiU w/ Zelda Windwaker and Assassins Creed, then I bought Nintendo Land
Lastly a friend got me a Switch lite w/ Marvel UltimateAlliance and Puyo Puyo/Tetris, then the first game I bought was Streets of Rage4
I hope the "I Ate All Your Bees" inscription on the back of your iPad was a Black Books reference, Alex. :)
I remember
GameCube - Billy Hatcher & the Giant Egg
DS - Super Mario 64
3DS - Animal Crossing New Leaf
Wii - Twilight Princess
Wii U - Wind Waked HD
For Gameboy Advance my first game was Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga, and that game blew me away as to how much content could be crammed into a handheld.
Did it also blow you away with how funny it is?
It has such fury!
@@s.p.d.magentaranger1822 the game is just the best, the is literally never a dull moment

I discovered Nintendo through Super Mario Sunshine and Wind Waker Gameplays and plushies, then i played the first Mario game and some years later i played SM64 in emulator along with Pokémon Fire Red and Tloz oot afther that i became a Nintendo fan
I am very pleased. To borrow some nomenclature from a country that is not my own: Alex is a legend.
My first Nintendo game would be Mario Kart 64. The second one would be Brain Age for the Ds, but I think that I never had experience a Nintendo standalone game until Kirby Squeak Squad, which to this day is one of my favorite games, and probably the one that I have replayed the most.
I still remember playing my niintendp ds back in the day
I still have my blue dsi
Feel the Magic was also one of my first games. Love it. Love it. Love it. Check out Sprung some time..
I believe my first GBA game was Sonic Advance, first DS game not counting the Prime Hunters demo was Super Mario 64 DS, and first Wii game not counting Wii Sports was Twilight Princess. As far as memory serves.

AT-AT Walker!!!
All Terrain Armored Transport
(LOL! My name is Matt too!)
My first game was mario kart ds on the ds. But I lost my ds and that game so they are long gone
I didn't get handheld systems. Only one I had discussed today was GameCube. It was my Star Wars machine. Rogue Leader ll, Clone Wars, Bounty Hunter.
Aside from the SMB/Duck Hunt combo cartridge that came with the NES, mine was Legendary Wings. Which I *almost* beat once, but could never quite pull it off.
Damn, remember playing fire red on my gameboy advance and always asking my mom to buy me batteries. Feels like yesterday.
