Awesome, you learn something new every day,''distill water''.First i know nothing about circuit broad or in side a arcade game, but its bloody awesome and interesting watching someone who does!!...
love the videos. Thanks for sharing and putting in the effort. I'm just getting interested in maybe fixing an old machine. turning 50 this year. feeling nostalgic.
hey Adam, great pickup and fantastic in site to how the schematics work. DD is such a classic and brilliant game. over here in the UK the board alone is $180 so that's a crazy bargain right there.
Thoughly interesting repair! Have to admit I love your channel! The end result was excellent! I would be tempted to get new Vinyls for the sides if possible.
thx adam great vid love the tech talk side of things :) I use to spend hours calibrating screens oh fun times in the trade..was never happy until it was perfect
Great video... on a "Allied Leisure" note... any luck finding the red LEDs for the score displays? I'm tuning up a Take 5 cocktail pin and can't find those display LEDs anywhere.
Dan van voorst I'm also an Iowan, and back when I was in middle school, I worked during the summer at a laundromat/arcade that my uncle owned in Grundy Center. He never paid more than $200 per game. I wish that it was still the 90s.
The dark green issue: for a moment I thought that it could be a case of the colors being adjusted for a sync-on-green monitor where 0 on green would be blacker-than-black.
Great video Adam! and great tips too, like the distilled water technique... I got a rare question. What modules do you have installed in your 16500b? and what probes are you using? Thanks!
Great video, I just finished watching all your videos! Do you want to share which test pattern generator you are using? Yours seems perfect for CRT adjusting, And I find it hard to choose one on ebay.
Adam did you have a video posted a new video on pole position? I had thought I ran across it. Did I see one that you might have pulled? I am very interested in this project and would lone to be kept informed of its progress thanks
Great work as always Adam! Can you post a link of where you acquired the "donkey kong" schematics? I have a DD pcb that I would like to tinker, Thanks again!
Thanks, I can't wait to give this a try on some boards I have laying around. One last question if you don't mind, how long does it typically take for a board to dry?
+Floydzabarber I finally did my first dishwasher board cleaning and it worked great. I don't know if the Heated Dry feature on the dishwasher is bad for boards so I didn't use it. Instead I blasted off the remaining water with my air compressor. I also removed the flyback before I dishwashered the chassis board.
+OneCircuit No, just a light cycle with no soap and regular house water with no water filters. I have heard others talk about it but never saw it done. The board was really nasty going in and came out nearly spotless. I admit I'm still a bit apprehensive about the process. Thanks for the videos Adam. Don't change a thing. It's rare to find someone like you with skill at savant level who also takes the time to share it with the rest of us.
Thanks Adam for the Double Dragon video. Your videos are very technical and informative. When you replaced the RAM for the color issue you were having, the PCB had 55ms speed silkscreened. The chip you put in, if the RAM chip has faster access speed, does the chip slow down to 55ms or does the RAM chip causes those other chips (L153?) to overdrive? Maybe I have it backwards from what you did. LOL
The CPU says "hey I need this data" and the RAM responds with the data after a specific amount of time. This time is fixed depending on how the chip was made. Some faster.. some slower. Too slow... and you miss your window.
I've learned that the timing stated on chips is what is guaranteed over the entire production-batch and does not necessarily reflect the specific chip.
I figured it out after the video. There's a dip switch setting that will allow you to flip the image. Still not sure why it shows but differently between the 2 setups though.. would imply that the monitor orientation in the cab itself is wrong.
I'm wondering whether the original owner occasionally played the game with wonky colours for a few years, just thinking the game was "getting old", until the power supply eventually died preventing any more use.
If you haven't already, you should take a close look at that ground rail thing (I don't know what it's actually called) on the boardset. I have a Double Dragon boardset, and that rail had several breaks in it that weren't obvious without looking closely. The game still worked fine, even with those breaks, but I figured it was best to fix it anyway. A few of the legs had broken, plus there was a break in the main body of it. Here's how I fixed that main body break: i.imgur.com/UZo8wAl.jpg For the broken legs, I removed the solder and broken sections of legs from the through-holes, then soldered what remained of the legs to the through-hole pads from the top side.

Nice tips on adjusting the monitor Adam. You made it look effortless!
Nice work! The thing looks GREAT. And funny putting me in the marquee. HA HA. :)
Love your repair videos! Awesome! 👍

Nice! Would love to see a tour of your gameroom!
Amazing and very informative as always. Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge.

Great video really enjoyed that. a real piece of history there with dd. 🖒

Great Game!! used to play it a lot in arcade. Great buy for 100. never get those deals here in Iowa. Enjoy Adam

Do you still have the dragon on your collection? How’s it working ?👍👍
so satisfying
Thanks Adam👍🏻

I have an HP 16532A scope card and a couple of HP16550A logic analyzer cards.

I believe it was here: www.jammarcade.net/schematics/
What a score! When you picking up Double Dragon II? 😁
Woooow, that's in really good shape. I'm right around that area too and every time I check I always find junk. Guess I need to scour CL more ahah.
Where do I get those wonderful toys? And how much should I look to pay? ie. Logic analyzer, light probe, etc........And which models should I get?
And the test pattern generator?
Crafty Mech TPG sold at Mike's Arcade.
Any new videos coming soon? What’s up?
Can you also use distilled water to clean monitor boards?
+Super Game Boys Yep you can use distilled water to clean any form of electronics. Just be sure it's completely dry before firing it up.
Great video Adam! One thing I was wondering is, when you pour distilled water on the board, do you use a brush of some sort to scrub it as well?
+Floydzabarber Yep I typically use a toothbrush. Works great.

What are you using to generate the test patterns to the monitor for adjustment? And if its something costly do you have a cheaper recommendation?
great video!
12:41 - I was with you all the way until I saw this....
One of my favorite games. I like the coin up board :0)
How’s the dd game doing ?
:) great final screen
Also, did I miss it or did you say why your test screen was upside-down?
And I thank John for getting me here. You are a wealth of information.
I figured it out after the video. There's a dip switch setting that will allow you to flip the image. Still not sure why it shows but differently between the 2 setups though.. would imply that the monitor orientation in the cab itself is wrong.
Good job, nice deal for a hundred bucks
I'm wondering whether the original owner occasionally played the game with wonky colours for a few years, just thinking the game was "getting old", until the power supply eventually died preventing any more use.
awesome !!!
What is the size of the monitor
19 inch
Wow thanks for the info. I asked because it looked like a 25'' monitor
Man I wouldn't have been able to give the guy the money fast enough.
just gave a like for the intro XD
