Good thing he brought the compact, travel kit with him.
Chris Bewes I know right? No xylophones or full sets of cow bells... We need more cow bells
It’s the drum tech who should come out and take a bow. No disrespect to Neil, who by all indications is a lovely human being, but less is more. Truly.
Chris Bewes I miss his old kits
Guess they have limited space in that studio.
must have taken at least 2 or 3 hours to set up probably more.
He'll never be forgotten or replaced. He's back in the arms of his wife and daughter. RIP Neil.
Such nice words...
Very touching, friend.
Much thanks to you both.
Nice comments buddy
James H When time comes, it’s gonna be a super-awkward reunion in heaven with both his wifes and daughters...
Anyway R.I.P Neil.
I feel very fortunate to have lived in the same time period as Neil! Been an absolute pleasure brother and i'll see you on the other side!!!!!!!!!!!!
And Mr Gord Downie too🤘
I’m sure no one will see this comment, but I have to say something. This man became a huge part of my life because of my uncle. My uncle showed me this masterpiece that was the NEIL PEART. All I can say is just thank you for all the joy you brought to the millions of us around the world. You inspired me to not only write, but to be a good writer. For as long as I live and beyond: thank you for everything. Just...thank you. Neil PEART.
Your uncle loves you
One of Neil's maxims was to say that (paraphrasing here) "the job of an artist is to inspire. If you can do that, what else is there?" He inspired so many. I'm glad to know he had such an impact on you, and thanks for sharing. He was an incredible specimen of a human!
@@davidbreth7386 You quoted him verbatim (if I'm not mistaken) at his HOF induction speech. Always so humble and so quiet. He was the quiet one of the group, but spoke so loudly.
@@davidbreth7386 And what's more amazing is that when you watch him, he was always a step ahead of himself!
I saw your comment
Just heard of his passing- sad day indeed - RIP Neil Peart - one of rock’s finest.
THE FINEST. RIP maestro u will b sorely missed! U already r
I have never forgotten seeing them live they blow me away RIP
Rest In Peace to this legend

Now everytime theres a storm we'll know who's making the thunder RIP Neil
We had some thunder tonight in Québec City with the bad weather that we're expecting. The guy next to me, on Grande Allée, said the same thing. "Hey, nice to hear you, Neil Peart."
playing along with kieth moon and john bonham
He is no better than a lot of famous drummers. In fact, I wasn't impressed. And would people stop the RIP nonsense? You can't Rest in Peace because you are dead for god's sake.
@@johnkuipers7829 yiu should've been lmao that one cost you dearly you don't even know and never will
He will be studied for years by all genres, so humble , so dedicated to his craft. He was a TRUE Musician!
"true"? As a life long musician i have to ask what that can even mean? It is not like any of that was overly hard and he train wreck a couple times. He just happened to have his own sound...very hard to do, so points, and he was a great great great team player. and humble as the day is long. So I do love him. But True...?
RIP Neil. Such a sad day when I learned of his passing. I've been a fan since I was a kid growing up in the 70's. I'm glad footage like this is around keeping Neil alive in our memories forever.

I just can't believe that The Professor has passed away! He's my hero! R.I.P. Neil Peart
@Douglas Bedore it's really sad, man. I've passed all my life enjoying Rush. My favorite Rock band of all times! I'm from Brazil and I had the honor to watch Rush in Rio tour in Sao Paulo. At least I could watch them in a stadium.
The loss of a persons hero always sucks. I wish for you a good way through his passing on. Take care.
@Douglas Bedore what about his wife and daughter in california--they don't count? jeez the idolatry and stupidity...
We are only immortal for a limited time - RIP Neil Peart
Jeff Hayes Isn't that the truth!!
Great comment.
His lyrics were as brilliant as his drumming. ❤️
@@CocoOPNY what lyrics - we are the priests of the temple of syrinx?
I say that all the time.
@@davidboisvert3305 me too, I say a lot of things, but, no one calls me brilliant.
Neil, RIP!!! Your magic will be left behind for the musical world to admire and may future generations know that major contributions and impact you made to the music world!
Ok, this one really hurt. I was so lucky to see Rush live and I’m very fortunate. Rest In Peace Professor Neil Peart.
First time I saw them was roll the bones tour. I was jumping around and having a blast and everyone else was staring like zombies. I didn't get it. It was weird.
Metronomes used Neil Peart as a reference.
Metronomes cant keep up.

Thank you for the memories a drummer of Neil Peart caliber comes around once in a lifetime RIP Professor!!!🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁
He made 90% of it look effortless, the parts where it looks like he's trying aren't even possible by another human being. RIP Neil
He is no better than a lot of famous drummers. In fact, I wasn't impressed. And would people stop the RIP nonsense? You can't Rest in Peace because you are dead for god's sake.
John Kuipers he's no better? 😂 Aren't you a know it all. Don't know many 60 year Olds that perform like that. Why does ever single "famous" drummer mention Neil as the greatest. His timing, and especially limb independence, is some of the greatest ever.
@@dougpullins1215 How about Charlie Watts, not a great drummer but he's still there. Beside the point actually. I was thinking of Buddy Rich. How does that compare in your estimation?
John Kuipers Buddy Rich, hands down, beats anyone else. And it’s not even close.
@@jeffbunnell Thank you for saying that. At least one person agrees with me! I've only seen Buddy Rich on video and there was one where he was drumming so fast his hands blurred. You know? I am not a drummer (tried to be) but I appreciate that kind of talent. I'm just a bit tired of all these accolades to Neil Pearl and really (am I too old [55]) I have even heard of Rush.
Perhaps because I live in New Zealand. These posts say he was The Master of Drumming. Is that true Jeff? And if so, or thereabouts, how do I get a recording where I can hear the drumming isolated? I am partially deaf so I find it difficult to hear what you hear. Drums and bass... okay - then too much and I can't hear each instrument. Get what I'm saying?
Little known fact - the circular logo on Neil's shirt is actually a nano drumkit. When needed it can be instantly activated wherever he is - surrounding himself with a full drumkit in a millisecond. RIP Neil. Greatest...drummer...ever.
Thank you Neil from a kid who saw you twice in 78/79 see ya in heaven on a motorcycle ...Best Drummer on my list!
Love him. Miss him. Proud to say he’s Canadian ❤️🇨🇦❤️
There's a warm excitement in my heart when I watch this indisputable master at his craft. There just hasn't been many human beings in history who have reached the pinnacle of their art--but Mr. Peart did. I won't say RIP. It seems more correct to say drum away with the heartbeat of a heavenly choir Professor.
IMO, the best technical drummer in rock n’ roll. He is a joy to watch him play.
All those countless hours as a teenager trying to learn and crank out 2112, Tom Sawyer, spirit of radio......don’t think I would have survived my youth if I didnt have Neil to inspire me and give me goals outside the confusion of those years. RIP...
Man he was awesome. So many albums and tours and I feel that he left us way too soon.
I'm old enough and greatful to have seen RUSH! 5X in my life.
And still have the
t-shirts to prove it!
Each and every concert was an event that I will cherish for all of my days.
Now in my waing year's with a tear in my eye I'm seeing my rock hero's fall
one by one. Soon I will be able to see them all again. RIP Neil Peart
You are now truly free.
R I P Neil Peart. A Canadian rock inspiration, a Canadian legend.
so if Neil was born in AUSTRIA, he wouldn't be as good/famous or your favorite?
Yes, he would be good as he is, and even if he was Austrian or Australian or Algerian. I'm just proud to be Canadian, and I'm proud that he is Canadian.
Like the way I'm a fan of Rolling Stones from U.K., Bruce Springsteen from U.S.A. or John Legend or Jimmy Hendrix.
The fact is, as so much we can open ourselves to the World, Neil Peart was a big part of our modern rock heritage, here, in Canada.
So many students in music, espiecially drummers have learned about his technics and tolls. We don't call him "Professor" for nothing.
@@bishlap You're just a BIG ray of sunshine, ain'tcha? -_-
Did you see Tommy Chong in that battle of the bands scene in Up in Smoke? Are you really suggesting that Neil Peart is the true Canadian drum legend?
Yes, he is, and he still a legend. But Tommy Chong is a legend too. Neil Peart is not THE only drum legeng. Being a drum legend in Canada is not a one king throne. For God sake, Canada is 38 millions of people. Not two thousands.
I love watching the PROFESSOR at work.......
R.I.P. NEAL
YOU ARE GREATLY MISSED
From one drummer to a 100% better drummer! RIP Neil. Your videos and music live on so we can still listen and watch a master of his art.
RIP to one of the greatest drummer's this world has ever known!

We’ve been blessed to have seen him live. Many will regret they hadn’t. Thanks for the memories and the sticks you gave me in 2007!

Was watching this before he died..back again.. can't help but smile in amazement. When the Professor is playing a big band all by himself in real time-- (yes- triggering samples perfectly counts) it's a historical moment in television really. The greatest rock drummer gone. An influential poet. Gone but not forgotten.
As a drummer of 40 years this is the absolute finest solo I’ve ever seen! I’m sure Sonny could easily continue with his solo for another 30 minutes without repeating his same drum fills, he’s the outstanding. Smooth as silk his nuance and stick work says it all- practice practice practice!! Ugobro, you are truly an amazing spectacle to behold. And THANK YOU for putting the time in to bedazzle ancient drummers like myself who one day strived to be as you- you’re as good as it gets! ~K. 😁
Sonny? This is Neil Peart of Rush
RIP. This was my favorite week to watch Letterman, so many great drummers.
Mid 70s, livivin large in high school, in love with my first girlfriend and diggin every song they played

Not just a drummer but all round percussionist, not to mention the lyrics.
RIP.
Neil Peart is one of the greatest drummers of all time and he is so humble about his talent and may you rest in peace Neil. What a talent.
An immensely talented, creative and unassuming man who's life had been blessed with such artistry and success, but scarred by such unimaginable tragedy and loss in equal measure. The world is a little greyer for your passing. May you rest in the arms of Selena and Jackie, always.
Nice.
As someone else said, your favorite drummer’s favorite drummer. I felt a shadow cross my heart.
God speed Professor Neil,Greatest drummer & Lyricist of all time!.
I will never understand the down votes on this. Here is a man who defined drum playing for 40+ years and should be appreciated by all. Love you Neil you will be missed but the music lives on forever.
Possibly the best Drummer in the World!
Not possibly absolutely the best
THIS WAS THE MASTER AT WORK... HIS PERPETUAL, FLUID MOTION MADE IT LOOK SO EASY... A DRUM GOD WAS TAKEN FROM US WAY TOO SOON BUT THERE'S A DRUM KIT IN THE SKY WAITING JUST FOR HIM.
I was here before his passing and I'll be here long after. RIP to Gods perfect drummer and my personal inspiration, why I ever picked up Sticks in the first place

Been mourning Neal for a few days now. Great loss. Great man.
I was honored to see Rush on The Time Machine tour in South Carolina one week before Neil’s appearance on Letterman .
He was a genius. The world has lost a great man!
Simply the best studio drummer of all time. And his lyrics were monumental. RIP Neil!
I won't forget the first time I heard rush. It will never be the last. For his time, and era, he was a master drummer and deserves the title. All masters have apprentice and the cycle moves on. One of the bands I never got to see in my time and wish I had the chance. Moving pictures, 2112, Overture, always in my lists. Hats off to a legend. Rest in peace Neil. My condolences to your family.
The Greatest of all time. RIP NEIL PEART

where do you fans come up with that nonsense? Honestly..
RIP Professor. My favorite drummer ever!
The day my heart skipped a beat 💔
RIP Neil Peart
Probably did a 20 minute warm back stage before doing the 5 minute performance. He was such a great drummer because he worked hard to get to that level and maintain it.
Neil Peart have been my favourite drummer for decades, the guy is an absolute master and there will NEVER be another. I've seen Rush 5 times live and honestly I was so fixated on Neil that I forgot Geddy and Alex were even there half the time. If there is a Rock'n'Roll heaven they just got one hell of a drummer upgrade .. R.I.P

RIP, Neil.....thanks for the memories. Rock on in Heaven...!
I'm a guitarist and watching him just gives me chills... Just finished my first historical book on Rush... Called Rush: Chemistry
The professionalism of these three musicians is off the charts... Reading about them somehow really fired up my practice time on guitar, quite an inspiration...
Frank Yeah I get you there. Most of the music I play is Rush. The first song I learned was Working Man, and then Xanadu, and 2112 (the entire piece). Great music, and it will challenge you to grow as a guitarist. As Geddy said, "I will choose a path that's clear, I will choose free will"
GROW UP frankie boy
