Really enjoy your videos. As a former 40+ year resident of Florida I've watched the Villages grow....we now live out west. I could never live in the Villages after seeing what I've seen there and especially how it is growing, but to each his/her own.
Many of the restaurants in The Villages are great. Mark has a right to his opinion, but I think Mark's #1 fan is Mark. The ladies were much more interesting to listen to. I'm surprised the lady who spends a lot of time with horses didn't buy a home in Ocala.
I think Mark has some good points like the interviewer said he should’ve tried six months before he moved. And Mark sounds like he’s used to more professional golf maybe be happier at a different sort of Place nothing wrong with that
I have given others that advice---rent for at least 6 months before you buy. A place can look great on a visit but could be quite different when you're there 24-7.
@@marylut6077 I've never been to The Villages and don't know anyone who has lived there. I've just heard too many stories of people's disappointment when a place initially looked great and wasn't exactly what they had thought. It can happen anywhere, so it is sound advice for anyone moving anywhere.
Hi ! Loved this segment because we are considering TV. It’s important to get perspectives from others who live there. The thing that concerns me is the rapid growth and a lack of medical facilities to accomodate all these people. I have heard that there are problems finding parking and long waits for restaurants. Thank you for doing this video. 👍😊
I am a realtor, and mostly work in The Villages. I personally new a lady who had a premier home, and she absolutely hated it in The Villages. I would sometimes go see her. She was one of my regulars back when I waited tables. She lived for many years in Ft. Laurderdale in a very exclusive area. She missed the great restaurants, and the high end shopping. I also lived in South Florida and loved the atmosphere of The Villages even though I am not in the 55 range. Most people though love it here for the activities you can't beat the lifestyle.
I agree to explore the area extensively first. We loved visiting TV. That being said, it is in the middle of nowhere. Personally I do not golf nor play pickle ball (ZERO interest). The restaurants are overpriced . We found local spots better just off property. We enjoyed the entertainment on the squares. Ultimately we want to be closer to some sort of water, gulf side. Thanks for another great video.
I have lived in florida for 40 plus years, the land where the Villages is located was nothing, swampy and agricultural. They bought the land for $1-$10/acre. The infrastructure is new, when more sinkholes open people’s minds will change and so will the infrastructure and homes. That’s sinkhole USA, but listen to New Yorkers, paradise. We shall see 😉
LOVE, LOVE, LOVED this video! My FAVORITE part in the video is the interview with Mark! He was FUNNY, FANTASTIC and HONEST! He was REAL! He told it like it is and you cannot fault him for that. People really need to check out a possible place to live prior to making a firm commitment to own a home in a community. Like he said, he should have rented first, find out what it really is like to live there and then make his decision to either live there or somewhere else. Thank you for not dismissing Mark but for allowing him to speak freely.
The Villages is not for everyone. Mark is entitled to his opinion, but Mark could have expressed his opinion more diplomatically. I hope he enjoys living at Lakewood Ranch.
There’s a pickle ball court in the 55+ area of our community (West Valley, Arizona.) You can hear that thing from a mile away. Many of the cities around Phoenix are converting tennis courts into pickle ball and many have started to complain about the noise the ball and paddle make. Many HOAs getting noise complaint calls. Guy in the blue shirt is killing it.😂
I'm 66, retired at 45. IMO the type of thinking for moving into such communities is short sighted. I'm very healthy, but I still have to assume at 85, 90 I'm going to need help. Moving into a place like the Villages is a pretty short term plan. What happens when I need help? That's hugely expensive in a place like the Villages because demand is so high and US wages. My plan is to move to SE Asia in early 2024, buy property and create my forever home. Probably marry a much young great wife. There I can afford a live-in housekeeper for $100/mo plus food or even a fully trained Registered nurse for $500/mo. And/or my wife will provide for my care. Filipinos for example are world famous caregivers. Setting up my forever home will be fun and once setup I'll feel secure for what could come. That will allow me to garden, paint, write software and do who knows what without worry for the future.
Mark seems to be an arrogant, loud, obnoxious, angry little man who can't form a coherent sentence, so it is not surprising that he is not happy there - I have a feeling that he is not happy wherever he goes, as the place doesn't yet exist that can meet his lofty expectations. When a guy is still living in his (alleged) high school sports glory days, it is just sad (unless you're Al Bundy - Polk High/1966).
Mark is entitiled to express his opinion too, and he used no profanity. He listened to the interviewer asked him questions. It’s good they had someone that expressed a different view than just everybody who said wonderful wonderful fantastic.
That old man is going to complain about life no matter where he lives. It's no wonder his sister is his only family. But I can see the point about the restaurants. But from what I've Google mapped, it seems to apply to all of Central Florida and not just The Villages.
I just wish that the home prices were not over our heads. I would love to live there, but when you retire, you look to spend less and moving there we would probably double what we spend normally. The prices are being met, so they will continue to go up. I guess I just have to live with the fact that we'll never be able to afford to live there.
Hi Michele, if you haven't reach out already, we would love to help you find a place near The Villages so you can enjoy some of the perks, but avoid the price tag. There are many communities nearby that fit other budgets. Connect with an agent on our website www.explore55plus.com/get-started, or reach out to us at Hello@Explore55Plus.com. 😊
That’s not nice! He’s entitled to his opinion too, and it’s just expressing it. I thought he was hilarious. He has some good dance moves. And he was respectful to the interviewer and listened and answer his questions.
@@enjoyslearningandtravel7957 of course he is entitled to his opinion, but respectful? Were we watching the same video? He insulted the way people dress, their hobbies, pickle ball, and all the restaurants. I’m glad you found him entertaining. I found him obnoxious.
Thanks for the video! We love The Villages but it is definitely not for everyone of course. I would like to understand exactly what people mean when they say it is “too big”. Too many houses, not enough facilities and open spaces? If not open space then we would just be surrounded by another expanse of houses but setup by a different developer and competing for the same resources? 🤔
It’s not for me I wouldn’t fit in and everybody would hate me I wouldn’t make any friends but I sure love to watch Jerry and Linda they are such good people and there’s so many other great people there - the place is beautiful! I wish it were for me but sadly it isn’t!
I’m glad that they had someone have a different opinion instead of having everybody say yes I love the villages it’s good to have different opinions The villages it’s not perfect for everyone and that’s OK
The Villages isn’t for everyone and that’s why you need to do a lot of research on your own before buying. And you can’t blame the community because you made the wrong choice.
Bring your checkbook. So many fees, some divulged and some surprises. Floridas cost of living has risen faster than any other state in the past 5 years. Unfortunately most of it of a "self inflicted" nature. Property taxes, homeowners insurance, flood insurance, hoa fees and assesments, and utilities all doubled and tripled in the last five years due to poor planning, mismanagement, and state county municipal corruption have greatly contributed to this situation. Florida will never be free as Governor Destupidist likes to claim. Especially with all the data being fudged and fabricated it will never be sorted out until they stop lying to their residents.
People get into things without doing their homework. The Villages is just a place to live but it is not up to The Villages to see if this is right for you. How someone can be so dumb that they come to The Villages and are surprised by something is beyond me. Look, it’s a more expensive home for less room that you have in your home state for the privilege of being in a warm climate. I don’t get how someone comes to The Villages and is lonely. It’s not up to The Villages to make your life work because that is the individuals job to find activities and do them. Maybe you are not interested in golfing a lot then maybe you should not come to The Villages.
That was really funny when Mark repeated that the restaurants SUCK! I believe him to be correct on that score. The Villages can be extremely depressing. They take the corpses out at night when people don't see the hearse.
