Isaac Lidsky has been a child actor, Supreme Court litigator, entrepreneur, best-selling author, and just happens to be blind. After losing his sight to a rare degenerative disease in his early years he learned the power of not just simply seeing the world for what it is, but mentally manifesting what you want it to be and executing. Isaac shares what lessons can be found in the unknown on this episode of Impact Theory with Tom Bilyeu.

    QUOTES:
"The value in this Eyes Wide Open vision that I speak of is, it's not about science, it's not about blindness, it's about the lessons we can take in really taking control over the reality we want for ourselves. Literally choosing who you want to be and how you want to live your life in any moment." [10:50]
"You can live a life of happenstance, of reaction, or you can take some time to figure out how you want to spend your time, who you want to be, who you want to be as a parent, who you want to be as a spouse, and on and on and on. You can try to be that person and you can try to live that life." [21:55]
"Every moment of your life is a choice. How do you want to spend that moment? Who do you want to be? It is not the circumstances we confront that dictate the lives we experience." [25:55]

      - So tell me, my man! How did you start your business?
      - Well, you see...
      - SHUT UP! That's literally exactly what I was gonna say! To meee - starting a business is like waking up in the morning! Legit, best feeling in the world! 24/7, 365!

Damian Demasi someone recently quoted another great thing from Meditations, so when I saw it at the local bookstore I bought it and put it in the to read pile. Excited to get to it as this is another datapoint that it's got some great wisdom in it.

Damian Demasi yeah it blows my mind there are some people throughout history that achieved an amazing level of clarity about how the world works. Even by modern standards.

You should also check The Enchiridion (or The Manual) by Epictetus (“People are not disturbed by things, but by the views they take of them.”), and On the shortness of life by Seneca (“It is not that we have so little time but that we lose so much. ... The life we receive is not short but we make it so; we are not ill provided but use what we have wastefully.”). All of them are great stoic philosophers with practical and action oriented ideas. Ideas that seems to be new (like mindfulness) are really old in fact. As humans, we tend to repeat ourselves, and nature repeats itself too:
What is vice? A familiar sight enough. So with everything that befalls have ready-to-hand: ‘This is a familiar sight.’ Look up, look down, everywhere you will find the same things, of which histories ancient, medieval, and modern are full, and full of them at this day are cities and houses. There is nothing new under the sun. Everything is familiar, everything fleeting. (Meditations, 7.1)

    My take away:
Fear is an illusion. We make excuses to not being able to do things, he is an answer to all those excuses. Don't create excuses, create vision.

I realized my poverty metality was perpetuated from fear of sacrifice and commitment. I wasn't giving myself permission to ASK for anything, including money, because I wasn't committed to sacrificing for the goal (of delivering value to my community). I wasn't allowing myself to feel worthy, or to feel like I have anything of value to deliver to the world, because I hadn't built up authority over my life through sacrifice and commitment. Now I know I have to start achieving small goals to build up my personal authority/credibility, and accept all the sacrifices that come with it. At the time when I make those sacrifices, I know I am truly committed to my character and values.

thank you for sharing this..it seems that i have the same problem: lack of commitment and fear of sacrifice in order to achieve my goals..can you explain what the eye opener was for you to come to that conclusion and how you take back authority over your life nowadays? maybe share some details or examples, would appreciate that a lot..

Sibel Sürücü Really for me, it comes down to trying to do anything creative. Like trying to make promo video for a non-profit. Trying to recruit people to help me make it. And I got people who were willing to help, but my fear of failure was stopping me from actually making it. Which crushed me that I didn't have the courage to look at the possibility of success and I let the possibility of failure overwhelm me. I contemplated what the difference between me and successful people was. Like what attitude does GaryVee and Tom Bilyeu have that I don't? It seems like they had a willingness to stand up for their choices and its consequences that I just didn't have. I just had this realization recently, but goals like quitting smoking, starting exercise, and putting out content are gonna be my way of developing self credibility. Then let any success from those goals help me build momentum to whatever is next.

    • @barcelona12ist
      @barcelona12ist 6 років тому +1

thank you for answering..i guess my major obstacle is the fear of suffering which blocks me immensely..start with small things and gain momentum over that seems a way to get things started..

This guy, Isaac Lidsky is freaking crazy! He embodies what it means to be an iron man. We, the virtual reality seers brag about eyesight. Well, although we perceive it to a blessing to see what's in front of us, he nearly renders it obsolete in his world. He taught me that there's more to eyesight than the eyes see. Thanks Isaac for opening my eyes wide.

Wow. This is gold. So much respect for this man and his "worldview". It's coincidental that I put up a spoken word piece on my channel just yesterday - Speaking about the identity that we maintain, creating a "me" using the blood of our former selves. We have all of this information stored up based on moments that no longer exist, and often time's we are limiting ourselves by seeing the world through a subjective lens which keeps us holding onto these ridiculous interpretations of who we think we are.

Ikr? I wonder if it's a thing acquired at Harvard. I hear Pete Butigieg using that cadence, frequently, too.

Fantastic interview... I had heard of his book from one of my real estate groups but have not read it yet... learning so much from all your interviews Tom..seriously and Thank YOU for constant release of such amazing content!!! .
I have question that is probably really odd for Issac if he read this... if he wouldn't mind answering... In your process can you see with your mind? I know you can't with your eyes but can you with your mind? I ask because I can actually see things and visit places and I am really there with my mind... Like how people dream.... I do it awake... Eyes wide open!!! I won't see anything that is really in front of me or around me... I will actually see my vision and it's interactive with me... I am interactive with it... If that makes any sense... I know it sounds a little weird or perhaps crazy but I thought maybe he would know or understand what I mean....Using the mind to see.... If he does... Is it a gift that helps him in the creative process? I think it is a gift and can be useful... Thank YOU!!!
