I could watch this video all day. Your enthusiasm is infectious. Pulling out my credit card to buy one myself, just deciding between polished and blasted case....Well done!
TGV I'm with you, is a stunning watch. I don't own that exact model but I was feeling the same as you got it out of the box. Four years later I already own six Squale's and want more. 😅
You have a lot to answer for TGV. Since watching your videos I've gone from owning 1 watch to 7! Got a Squale 1521 blue Ocean blasted on the way. Cannot wait to get my hands on it!
I love your reactions. I don't own many, but when I unbox a cool watch, the feeling is so good that I try and do it slowly to enjoy the moment! This is a very pretty watch.
Based on this video, I've cancelled my order for a 43mm Oris Aquis date, and ordered this exact model of Squale 1521. Your enthusiasm comes across very clearly. Nice vid.
Your videos convinced me to make my first mechanical watch a 1521. It arrived a few days ago with mesh bracelet and a lovely hadley roma leather strap, and it looks the absolute business. A month ago I didn't even know Squale existed, and I couldn't be happier with my new watch. I might email you pictures if I ever get around to taking some. Thanks TGV! Cheers, Chad
+Chad N Hi Chad, You have no idea how much that pleases me to hear. Thank you so much for sharing that. Enjoy the 1521! BTW, I just uploaded a new review on my Squale Heritage you might enjoy. Best regards, TGV
Nice, will definitely check that out later today. I'm already looking seriously at getting a 1545 too...the PVD is very tempting as a camping/outdoors watch. Might've caught the Squale bug, Chad
Congrats TGV.Looks like an amazing piece and great value for money. For sure that is not an entry level diver,it is way above that.Probably, with a bigger brand name written on the dial, that watch wouldn't cost less than 4k.
Congratulations, TGV. An inspired choice indeed. I own three Square myself, including that blue one you were considering. The color looks far more vibrant in the metal than in photographs. But I also love my black 1521 supermatte. Enjoy in good health.
Congratulations TGV. This is a very sharp looking timepiece. Enjoy wearing it often. I've never heard of the Squale brand before. They seem to put out a good product for the price. Well done sir. PS. When winding the new Squale, perhaps use an ungloved hand so as not to get any lint inside of the pull out crown. Just a thought. I think you should leave the black factory strap on the timepiece. They've done a good job with it's design.
243wayne1 Hi Wayne, Thank you for the kind words. So glad you approve and I certainly will take your advice on the winding. Happy holidays my friend, Best regards, TGV
Cheers for the advice TGV ordered mine today found one in a jewellery store in verona Italy just waiting for the post now ! If only I had known I would have gone to the store as I was there in June as Italy is our favourite holiday destination
Geekanoids Thank you! Page and cooper are certified retailers for the UK and Long Island Watches in the USA. I went with LIW as they are just around the corner from me and are really great to deal with. I can't recommend Squale enough, I'm giving serious thought on buying a second one! Thats how much I like them. Thanks again, Best regards, TGV P.s. BTW Your channel is wicked! Love it.
The Urban Gentry I thought you were in the UK so would have used P&C. So tempted with the blue or orange myself. I am partial to orange and have many tangoed accessories ;D
Geekanoids haha, no, I'm a Brit in NYC, I live here most of the year. Its cool to see that despite your obvious lust for latest tech you still appreciate the old world mechanics of horology. Do you prefer them to the "smart" or digital watches? I would be an interesting discussion to have for a video! Best regards, TGV
I had to do a quick search on Squale since I had never heard of them. They do have a real history. I'm guessing it was never sold in the US until recently. It looks like a real solid piece. The orange hand gives it a different look. Price seems very reasonable too.
somerville99 Hi Somerville. Hope you are well. So glad you can see why I am so excited about this watch. Cant wait to do the full review, I might have to do it sooner then planned! Best regards, TGV
Looks like a really high quality watch from a cool brand that I didn't know about. Since I live in Milan maybe I'll pass-by their small shop to try them on ;)
Hi Luis! Yes please do and I would love to hear about it. If you could get a pic or two of the store that would be great and I can include it in a viewer email video. Love Milan, very jealous you live there! Thank you so much for the comment and welcome to the channel. Buon Natale! Best regards, TGV
Thanks James. Yes I love that orange, makes reading the time even quicker and really good in bad lighting or water. How are you? I must check your channel today, how is that knife you are making coming along? If I don't hear from you by Xmas, have a good christmas mate! Best regards, TGV
auxmike Hi Mike, Hope you are well. So glad you like the Squale, it just such a stunner! You described perfectly what I like about it. Will have to do a knife review soon! Best regards, TGV
The watch turned up from Italy this week really pleased with it as I have never purchased a watch without trying one on ,but really impressed with the quality and pleased with the deal I got on the price looks more expensive than the price you pay
Nice one. I'm a big fan of that "entry luxury" range of $500 - 1500, which has some excellent quality watches (e.g. Oris, Hamilton, higher-end Citizens, etc). Oh what Archie is missing out on...
***** Me too Jonny! ME TOO! Its a great range with so much to choose from. Love Hamilton, Oris, and Citizen. I think we have a lot in common and you are very welcome on this channel. I think you will really love Squale, so glad I got this one! Best regards, TGV
Thanks for the kind words, TGV - I enjoy your channel. Yeah, there are some similarities with our watch tastes. I just recently purchased a watch I think you used to have - the Omega chronograph 2225 (to go along with two other Seamasters I have). Man, I love this thing. As I think I told you, I have an Oris Divers Date but your vids on the Aquis are nudging me in that direction as well. For some reason I really like the one with orange markers; I think I'd go strap as my Divers Date in a bracelet and I'd like to diversify a bit. Keep up the good stuff. - J
The Urban Gentry One more thing. I think this is considered gauche in the horological community, but I just can't get into the Rolex Submariner. I mean I like it, but I far prefer the Seamaster and Oris and if I'm ever going to spend that kind of dough on a watch I'd probably go for a 42mm Planet Ocean or a used Breitling Navitimer or Chronomat.
TGV! I'm trying to decide between the black 1521 and the blue 1521. I like to keep one "tool" diver and one "dressy" diver. The Squale would be my "dressy" diver. I'm worried the blue would be too bold for some outfits. What's your take?
Judging from the offerings on Squale's online shop i'm guessing this model has the ETA 2892-2? That is a kick ass movement. Possibly best quality movement for the price and its a work horse.
Yup, that the one! Was a big factor when I was considering the brand. Glad you approve. Do you have one of these 2892's in one of your watches? BTW Cheers for the comments mate.
Yeah, I had one in my Bell & Ross BR03-92 Military Ceramic and I loved it. Just the sound it made at night when I would have it close to my ear was incredible that could have been amplified my the ceramic case though but I loved everything about it. Its better than anything Rolex has in house in reliability and durability so says Wikipedia. Best movement for an active man as far as I am concerned.
I recently bought a Porsche design watch, and it reeked of vanilla, cant understand why, I had to run it in my ultrasonic cleaner for a long time to get rid of the smell !!
Been watching your reviews the last couple of days very good information thanks I like the idea of unusual brands which you do not see everyday thanks for the advice .Mike
Stewart Craig Cheers Stewart. I am glad the video is able to capture that sense of quality. I am still trying to figure out what exactly it is about it that gives that impression. I guess time will tell. Best regards, TGV
Hi as a man of exquisite taste could you give me some advice please. I cant decide between the 1521 blue dial in either blasted or polished, i'm torn. Which do you think looks better on the wrist, i want to be able to wear it as an everyday kind of watch rotating between my Stowa & Seikos. Thanks
Hi TGV I have been looking at this watch on the Page&Cooper site based in the UK. It is priced at £615, is this the same model as yours as I desperately want it now, great review. Thanks Jason
Jason Wilson Thank you! I hope you go for it, I heard nothing but good things about P&C, I am sure they will look after you. Good luck, Best regards, TGV
TGV please help! What would you recommend: This Squale 1521 or Chr. Ward Trident Pro? I like them both very much for very different reasons. Also have you encoutered the Squale 1521 Blasted and which one do you prefer? This is going to be my first buy in that price range so I really want to get it right. Love your videos, hope you recover fast and keep up the good work ☺
mulberrybush67filmfan Hi, now that really is the million dollar question. I think I will answer it in the full review ;-) Its gonna be a close one! Love the look of those Helsons, will have to check them out. Cheers for the comment, Best regards, TGV
Have you seen the BRAND NEW SQUALE 30 Atmos Pan America GMT ref. 1545PAG??!!??!! I see another fantastic TGV watch review coming (I hope)! I really would love to know your thoughts and impressions on this throwback sort of homage piece!!
Richard Burns Hi Richard, I have been bombarded by emails and messages about it. Off the bat, of course I want to look into it, but 42mm hmmmmm What do you think? Best regards, TGV
Very true indeed. I suppose it'll come down to lug size and design. But I'm sure when you review it and do another insightful and thorough review we will all know! Haha. For me...I'm thinking the Rolex explorer 1 is the one for me.. I feel the need to step up my game and treat myself
Hi TGV, I watched your videos concerning the Squale about 50 times already lol. I love the watch! However, I wonder whether or not it would be wearable to a suit on the milanaise strap. I would truely appreciate your opinion on that. Thanks a lot! cheers!
Lippo187 Hi Lippo. The milanasie bracelet, just like the dive watch itself was obviously made for maritime use, but just like the dive watch it looks great with a suit too. I know its "bad form", but its 2015!!!!!! and I think a mesh bracelet like that looks really REALLY cool with a suit. So go for it!!!! Best regards, TGV
hi! i'm really thinking that i want a squale for my first automatic watch. i think i have fallen in love with the 1521 in particular. in your estimation, is this a watch that would be worth picking up used, or should i just get a new one?
That is certainly the question! I was struggling not to say anything during the unboxing. I didn't want to make any brash statements but its defiantly up there. So far I would say easily better then a Steiny by miles, better the a Cward too, but when it come to Oris, thats a tough one. I guess I will have to leave that for the full review. Have a good Christmas! Best regards, TGV
Hi, thanks for the great videos you supply for us all, they really help. I am trying to decide on the squale 1521 and the 1621 squale matic. I like the polished version of the 1521 and the brushed with orange detail on the 1621, just cannot decide. Would you say if the decision is that close go for the 1521 or pay the extra for the 1621 because it's a better watch ? i just cannot decide which i like more. Any advice would be great, this has all come about having placed an order for the oris sixty five blue/black version, but got a chance to see it in the flesh today and its tiny, so i will cancel the order on Monday, shame, because its a pretty watch.
+KingXIV2 NIIIICE!!!! Love that smell, so does the wife, one of the few watches I wear in the bedroom as she likes the smell so much LOLOL ;-) Best regards, TGV
+Mike Mitch Squale all the way my friend. But whichever you decide, both great brands, but I think Squale is better IMO, Good luck Mike, Best regards, TGV
The 1521's are great looking quality watches in Squale's series. But, as it's price point, I'd think a metal bracelet would be standard... Not optional. Just my opinion.
Mine finally arrived!! Looks amazing. Why does mine have 4 screws in the side of the bezel? From what I can tell the older version had an orange hour marker (no screws) mine is the current version, as show in this video, but with 4 oddly placed screws?
Thank you, the screws are merely and upgrade to adjust the tightness of the bezel, their position is nothing to worry about, enjoy it! Best regards, TGV
The watch looks amazing, at least most of it. But I really have mixed feelings about that SQUALE stump on the side of the case that's usually the most polished and prettiest to look at. Pretty dumb move on their side imo. On the other hand, I guess it would make me easier to go "fool tool" with the watch. Scratched the case? Who cares, I have big ass SQUALE scratched in it already anyway :)
The Urban Gentry The case and bezel look fantastic and that watch band buckle i one of the best I have seen. Do you think the reason rolex, omega, tag heuer charge so much for their watches is because of their advertizing expence and brand reconition?
I know you were going to say its in "Rolex" territory in quality, from what I can see in the video I think I have to agree. See how it goes in a few days.
+Mike Mitch I am a more "polished" squall kind of a guy but blasted is very stealthy and in many ways more in keeping with a true tool watch. Cheers, Best regards, TGV
drunkensessions I think we both know deep down :'-( Its all status with him. Nothing wrong with it if thats what floats your boat. The important thing is we share this passion for horology, so many don't these days. Best regards, TGV
Hi Dennis, your presentation realy got my heart beating more and more every minute. I stumbled across some vintage squale watches and on the first glance i just thought they were seiko divers with a eta movement, but this review realy got me excited to buy a christmas present for me. I think it will look absolute gorgeous with the milanaise bracelet. Maybe I´ll stick to the blue one. Thanks for these 10 minutes of watch porn!
Glad you enjoyed the video. So much more then a SKX! Having said that, nothing wrong with an SKX, I wear them with great pride. Great watches. Yesssss, treat yourself and if you are in the USA I recommend "Island Watches" in Long Island, they are very fast, professional and a certified Squale dealer. Welcome to the channel and many best wishes this holidays. Best regards, TGV
It's hilarious that Mark used news paper for padding! Almost 9 years ago. Wow time flies.
Had to comment again, your excitement is infectious :D you sound so happy with your purchase.
Geekanoids lol No probz mate, I have not been then content with a watch since my Aquis.
Do you have a diver in your watch collection?
The Urban Gentry I have the Sub "Hulk" and love it to bits.
Geekanoids Very nice! Pure class.
I could watch this video all day. Your enthusiasm is infectious. Pulling out my credit card to buy one myself, just deciding between polished and blasted case....Well done!

You have a lot to answer for TGV. Since watching your videos I've gone from owning 1 watch to 7!
Got a Squale 1521 blue Ocean blasted on the way. Cannot wait to get my hands on it!
This is truly a great presentation and unboxing. Your true emotions are really getting thru the entire video.
Alexandru Cristian Ioan Thank you Alexandru!
What can I say? I LOVE WATCHES!!!! ;-)

Might've caught the Squale bug,

Hi Ephraim.
Thank you for the kind words and sharing this great comment. I think I may need to buy a few more!!!!

243wayne1 Hi Wayne,
Thank you for the kind words. So glad you approve and I certainly will take your advice on the winding.
Happy holidays my friend,

Enjoy the Squale and welcome to the club ;-)

Awesome video … I keep getting tempted by the Squale and now even more so. Did you purchase direct from them or via their eBay store?
Geekanoids Thank you!
Page and cooper are certified retailers for the UK and Long Island Watches in the USA. I went with LIW as they are just around the corner from me and are really great to deal with.

Best regards,

Looks like a really high quality watch from a cool brand that I didn't know about. Since I live in Milan maybe I'll pass-by their small shop to try them on ;)
Hi Luis! Yes please do and I would love to hear about it. If you could get a pic or two of the store that would be great and I can include it in a viewer email video. Love Milan, very jealous you live there! Thank you so much for the comment and welcome to the channel. Buon Natale!
Best regards,

Thanks I have decided to go for a polished version both colours are nice called the UK agent today none in stock but will place my order later
Looks great. The bezel knurling is nice. That is one thing that SKX falls short. Minute hand color is nice.
Thanks James. Yes I love that orange, makes reading the time even quicker and really good in bad lighting or water. How are you? I must check your channel today, how is that knife you are making coming along? If I don't hear from you by Xmas, have a good christmas mate!

It IS impressive! Fantastic mix of textures, angles and polish...
The sound of the bezel is glorious!
Any review on that neat knife?
auxmike Hi Mike, Hope you are well.

Will have to do a knife review soon!

Rhys Edmonds Hi Rhys, Hope you are well.
So glad you approve. Happy holidays mate!

great video, i love mine, but i wish they would leave squale off the side of the case.
WoW that looks awesome, my first thought was Nato with orange stripe down the center.

I'm surprised the watch wasn't moving already from you handling it.
So tempted...what kind of accuracy did you wind up getting?
WOW-- I think it's safe to say, TGV, that your videos have gotten exponentially better... lol!
(Great watch, btw) ⌚
TGV! I'm trying to decide between the black 1521 and the blue 1521. I like to keep one "tool" diver and one "dressy" diver. The Squale would be my "dressy" diver. I'm worried the blue would be too bold for some outfits. What's your take?

Any advice would be great, this has all come about having placed an order for the oris sixty five blue/black version, but got a chance to see it in the flesh today and its tiny, so i will cancel the order on Monday, shame, because its a pretty watch.
love the rubber strap, been working out with my squale for 2 weeks and the strap still has a rly nice smell lol
+KingXIV2 NIIIICE!!!! Love that smell, so does the wife, one of the few watches I wear in the bedroom as she likes the smell so much LOLOL ;-)
Best regards,
TGV
TGV got the blue squale coming for my 40th.... question is the squale tan strap worth the money ? Or would I be better with a Colreb ? Thanks
Really like the look I was looking at the CW Trident but not sure which would you go for
+Mike Mitch Squale all the way my friend. But whichever you decide, both great brands, but I think Squale is better IMO,
Good luck Mike,

The 1521's are great looking quality watches in Squale's series. But, as it's price point, I'd think a metal bracelet would be standard... Not optional. Just my opinion.
Nice unboxing video and a nice knife ;)
Shailen Ramnares Thanks Shailen!
Happy holidays!

Hi TGV, what is the exact model number of yours as I have seen different ones at various prices on P&C site. Thanks again Jason
I couldn't quite figure it out. Did you like the watch?
LOL
Thank you Mark,
Best regards,
TGV
*yes
As you say a tool watch built for a purpose. Oris/Longines Hydro splendid, but too pretty.
JPW Thanks JPW, Love the Hydro, thanks for watching,
Best regards,
TGV
Absolutely superb watch!!
LONE WOLF HEAR HEAR!
Cheers LW!

Where did you buy them?
The watch looks amazing, at least most of it. But I really have mixed feelings about that SQUALE stump on the side of the case that's usually the most polished and prettiest to look at. Pretty dumb move on their side imo. On the other hand, I guess it would make me easier to go "fool tool" with the watch. Scratched the case? Who cares, I have big ass SQUALE scratched in it already anyway :)
The extra detailng and finish is amazing.
Keith Greenan I think you hit the nail on the head there Keith. Its a contender!!
;-) Cheers,

TGV
The Urban Gentry The case and bezel look fantastic and that watch band buckle i one of the best I have seen. Do you think the reason rolex, omega, tag heuer charge so much for their watches is because of their advertizing expence and brand reconition?
Hi TGV
Do you think this watch fits small wrist? I can get away with 40mm (classic fortis flieger) but am nervous about added dia
Thanks
JHM003
TGV, I like that better than your Oris. I really like that watch!
I know you were going to say its in "Rolex" territory in quality, from what I can see in the video I think I have to agree. See how it goes in a few days.
Rob N lolololol NO COMMENT!!! ;-)
I will be interesting to see if I feel the same way next week.
Best regards,
TGV
Back again what's your opinion on the blasted version of the 1521
+Mike Mitch I am a more "polished" squall kind of a guy but blasted is very stealthy and in many ways more in keeping with a true tool watch.

TGV
Great video!
Thank you Mark!

Nice one. But curious what would Archie have to say about this watch...
drunkensessions I think we both know deep down :'-(
Its all status with him. Nothing wrong with it if thats what floats your boat.
The important thing is we share this passion for horology, so many don't these days.

Long Island no longer sells squale?
No, Squale setup their own online store for north America. Thank you :D

Will do! I always use a cheapo as I hate getting my good knives sticky from the tape.
Anyways, thank you for watching.

John Doe Thank you John, will certainly check it out.
The chris reeves sebenza is the rolex of production knives with luxury watch type engineeing.
Best regards,
TGV
my grail watch ...
