Love how this turned out. Some people showed concern about the tank size in an instagram post (think it could have been the photo to be honest). In my opinion and the opinion of many reputable discus keepers/breeders, the tank is plenty big enough. It's 114 gallons, 4ft x 2ft x 2ft. As you can see, the fish can loop around the whole scape and they do so at a very nice steady pace and really seem to enjoy their laps haha. Rule of thumb suggests 10 gallons per adult fish (10 fish for 100 gallons)...I've gone for 6 fish to air on the side of caution and I think 6 is a good number for discus.

Nice tank... just about right for them... should put in neons and corys with them and then youll have an amazon river fauna tank :)
Another great scape, fish are 🤤
I'd be careful with those screws the lights are hanging from tho, I wouldn't trust that foam ceiling that's for sure. Fish food for thought bud
@@jonathancollins9831 thanks. it's compressed board. They screw in well so all good.
@@samhradh1680 he only has 6 fish, so he would still fall into the 15-25 gallons per fish rule...
Great video, great tank!
Q: How do you control the tea-like tannin coloring in the tank from using real wood?
Now that "the boys" are appearing in your videos, do you get to write them off as a business expense?
Underrated 😂
yes, they are paid in lego sets and the value goes against taxes 🤣
@@MDFishTanks Given the cost of LEGO, good write off for you. 😉
I think the cover actually looks really good and doesn’t look bad on film, and of course the scape looks awesome
Anybody knows what kind of cover is that? Or any better alternative cover except for glasses hehe
I live in the US. Know any good places I can get those types of decor?
I apologise for my comment yesterday, after seeing the video and seeing them swim around the tank they have plenty of room. Another great tank md. it’s always been a dream of mine to build a 2000-3000 gallon tank for discus. One day
No problem. I guess the pic with them right at the front of the glass and spread out made it look like less room. Its a nice deep tank so loads of room. yeah mega huge discus tank would be unreal.
I’ll withdraw my wwf complaint 😂
What did u comment👀
2000-3000?? My goodness....
well i did some research too and for what i understood the right environment for them start from 100G onwards. Its a beautiful tank btw nice job i wish i can have a big one like that too on day. Btw could you maybe do a video with a shallow tank too something like 10G ..? 😅
Should do a cost breakdown of the builds. Like all substrate hardscape materials plants fish. Etc
dangerous, his wife might see that XD
@@anoukatremblay3681😂😂😂
Hey, do you think you will ever open up your studio to tours? I would love to come and see your tanks in person.
I think you have a great thing going and are rapidly becoming one of my favourite UA-camrs
14:10 "I did not know any b e t t a." pun intended. :D
I was actually going to write that but forgot lol.
The rock on the right side looks like a face!! Hahaha looks like groot
Putting a lot of faith in those hook screws holding that light up. Love the tank, but you should consider better lighting support so you don't walk into a mess one day.
No
yeah just grab some thin wood and screw through the foam in the wood behind the foam.
I love seeing the split wall behind the tank! That is so unique and beautiful. Those fish have such gorgeous markings and color patterns! Seeing your little darlings faces light up when they saw the fish for the first time was so precious!! What a fun family!! ❤️
Thanks a lot MD.... Now you've built the absolute most perfect discus tank I could ever dream of.... stainless filtration, white sand, tons plants and perfect balance of colored discus. Thanks a lot... Now I have the worst case of discus envy ever. Absolutely breathtaking setup. Thanks for all the notes in the description and pointers on the tetra food. Dream shopping list obtained. Now to find the disposable income. Thanks for being an inspiration to us all. Love your channel and tanks!
Love the lid, I have a tank with a similar driftwood above the rim situation, and I have been fighting the evaporation (high temp tank relative to the room). This looks better than I would have expected and I am super happy to see how simple and inexpensive this can be. Thanks for including that bit! I was afraid anything less than glass would block too much light.
MD,discus 100% jump,I have kept them for a Decade, they will spook each other believe it or not,Tank looks great!
Yep seen it already since the video. The lid stays on at all times!!
Absolute stunning tank once again. My four year old watched this with me and stated that we need to do this to our little tank. ❤️
Watching with my five year old and three month old both enthralled, five year old dancing to the music which he loves haha! Kids rock!
Greetings from Rio, Brazil!
I'm following your videos for some time and as I'm about to mount a 225l discus tank, I think I've seen this video a couple of times. My 5 year old daughter watched it with me and asked me to tell you: "I'm really excited with this video of your aquarium, I want to buy the very same rocks, wood, plants and discus you used. Congratulations!"
Cute!! I like the discus with freckles! he should be named Freckles :) adorable reaction from the kids
Beautiful Discus Tank, mate! Having the dark background might make them go dark, but I think because you have the bottom bright white, it makes them not go dark. Also, having the wood makes them feel better by having a place to hide. Keep it up!!
I absolutely looove the tank and set up! And those fishes are truly beautiful! I'm going to do something like this now with my 75g tank... I wish I had a 125g with discus, but can't afford one yet. My 75g will have to do for now.
Epic. Love that. Thinking of setting up a discus now after watching this
Omg this little British kids are more mature than me at 15😂😂 when he said it’s quite nice 🥺🥺awww there so cute dude wtf
These have to be the most beautiful fish I’ve ever seen... such a beautiful tank
These are the most beautiful fish I’ve ever seen!! 😍 I can see why you had to have them. Great looking tank too. Keep up the good work MD! I also ❤️ when you get your littles involved, so sweet.
Looks great MD As I said I will be doing 300 gallon with 20 Discus this November if all goes well. They may pepper up a bit but they are large enough that if it has not happened yet then they will likely not. Enjoy. One of your more beautiful builds.
They look a little big for the tank. Absolutely stunning aquascape though.
No they don’t.
@@abrahambarragan6149 idk it's just my opinion. I feel like the volume of the aquascape hasn't been taken into account in his fish per volume of water calculations. Idk I feel like it's the equivalent of keeping a dog in a medium sized room. Yes, it can survive, reproduce and probably live a happy life. But we as owners don't just confine them to that small room. We try to give them the best quality of life as possible. It is my opinion that the tank is a little too small for them in terms of swimming space. I mean, I'm probably wrong and you can correct me on this but it's just my perspective. I'm not trying to degrade anything MD is doing (huge fan)😊.
Nicholas Dykes comparing fish to a dog is a huge difference. Fish will happily live better in an aquarium where there is just enough space. Like they are in this tank. In the video it doesn’t look big enough or enough space for them but it’s a little over 100 gallon tank and they are big tanks. As you can see the fish are swimming in a school nicely around the scape. I understand what you are saying those fish do look rather big and it’s why MD went with 6 rather than 10 which could have easily been done. The tank has the length the width and height right for this specific fish. In my opinion.
They are supposed to grow that big.
But yeah I would personally put less of them.
Can you make a screensaver type video of this aquarium?
I started watching this with my younger sister yesterday and walked away for a bit and came back and thought to myself "oh my goodness! What a beautiful piece in that tank!" I thought it was all one piece until I rewatched it thoroughly today and realize that it was tons of individual pieces that you pieced/placed together!! Absolutely stunning work!
Is that fill hose end DiY or did you buy that somewhere? The tank and fish look awesome!
At 1st it looked small but you have experience with Discus and then i saw them go round and around. Bravo again!!
.... just out of curiosity, would it be possible to take a 30min video of this tank, (and the others if the demand encourages it) no music, no talking just 1080p60fps of these lovely setups, just to leave them running whilst I'm doing assignments.
his videos would be much better with less talking
@@oliverbellevue not quite what I meant. XD
Amazing 😲😲😲👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I love your hard work and your craftsmanship, but there's just too many commercials. Unsubscribed...
How do you think he pays for the tanks you egg?
@@SAILORsarah With eggs : )
You’re like a kid on Christmas morning 😂
MD, just a thought, but are you considering salt tanks and reef tanks and the like....?
I don’t get how u make amazing and beautiful tanks!!! God knows how my goldfish fish tank will turn out 😂 I need to take some inspiration from you 😁😁
When I forgot to change my discus water 20% everyday
My discus: I never met this person my whole life
Yes MD!!! Highlight of my weekend, always my inspiration!
Discuses have no particular environment other than the tank itself. Where they are located is adaptable to your situation. Discus can adapt to almost any environment as long as that environment has consistent elements of traffic, noise and your interaction with your fish. Maintenance, Water changes and feeding are all important activities that build trust. If you are netting your fish and scaring them more than necessary, each time you approach the tank your fish will be suspect about why. If you make the experience a good one you build trust. Plan long term for your fish so that they can continue throughout their life cycle to experience the same environment and not disrupt their life experiences and patterns. This is True with all Tropical fish but some more than others. Discus fish are in that category where great care in planning a safe and stable environment yields the best results. They are not that fragile, they just need your trust. Good Luck!
Ah man what a build! What a result, everything looks amazing, can see why you were so excited. This studio is quickly becoming a thing of legend!
Your discus tank is sooooooo beautiful. I'm so jealous. I used to keep discus, in a 5foot by 2foot by 2foot tank. It was a huge tank and I adored my beautiful discus. Funnily enough my discus were almost the same colour as yours. I did have a turquoise and a red malbora(excuse the spelling). I managed to successfully breed my two pigeon blood. The whole process was incredible. I ended up with 5 beautiful babies. I would have had more, but daddy ate the rest. Naughty daddy. I had the pair in a breeding tank, so I took dad out and popped him back into the community tank.
Sadly I now have several disabilities and I had to sell my whole setup. I was devastated. I used to love to just sit and watch them swim about and interact. They are such peaceful fish and soooooooo beautiful. I wish I could still have them. I guess I'll watch yours instead. 😊
Kind of off the subject, but where did you get your stone wall panels that are behind your tank?
Was thinking the same, really sets off the back of the tank
Click subscribe honestly amazing I wait and watch the vid to hear that ur actually amazing keep up all the good vids never give up love the tanks I love discus I just don’t have enough money to get them 😂 hope u see this love all ur vids 👍🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼❤️🙏🏼🙏🏼👍🏼🥺❤️
am I the only one who is jealous of his bottom lashes?! like how??
He's a very attractive man, beautiful.
I can totally tell that he is so happy and excited about setting up the tank.
@MD Fish Tank - This tank is probably the best minimalist DIscus tank I have seen so far. Good job!
I'm curious to know if you use any CO2 injection or any fertilizer in this tank? Please advise.
What kind of glue do you use and how do you know what glue is safe to use? Great scape by the way, everything looks great!
14:11 "I didn't know any betta"... I see what you did there :P
I was thinking the same and was looking for this comment!! hahaha!
Weird. That rock has a creepy face.😄
Looks beautiful !! I love those fish !
I love seeing the kids. Future fish hobbyists. 👍
When I worked at Maidenhead aquatics we used to acclimate the fish by placing them in the poly container then siphoning water from the tank to the poly box using knotted airline. Your method seems to work fine though.
Damn ... have very much enjoyed your journey from beginner to semi-pro designer! Such beautiful fish, all friends, all happy. Just keep doing what you love man, you're rocking it! Keep your mind open for ideas, don't let the flury of media distract you, or change you.
I loved them you helped with my gold fish lol
Great scape and fantastic discus.
To me it seems only one of the blue is definately a female and maybe one of the red might be one.
Enjoy your new fish and maybe you'll notice that they are very thankfull to eat some natural and soft food like frozen artemia for e.g. instead of hard dry food ;) (never feed red moskitos larvae)
Beauty full fish, really like the aqua escape and learned how to improve mine , the tank size is perfect for for them and the filters are plenty enough for the set up. thank's for making videos like
this one.
Hey I just want to make sure the fish have more then enough room. The 6 of them in there it looks a bit small. But the tank is absolutely stunning. Oh and be carful with the light I don’t want the hooks failing on you they didn’t look to tight when you put them in the roof tiles.
Dude, where have you been? Years in the industry and I am only finding you now haha. love your stuff mate, I want a room like yours when I'm all growed up
Those are some serious tank goals. Once day when I have a bigger place I'd love to get discus!
Great job!
It is a privilege to feed Discus and create their living environment. You instill a love of fish and responsibility in your children. Thanks for your posts
OMG, how do you keep them so clean, my tank keeps growing alge... I put some shrimps in it, but it does not work well
I would like to see how you do maintaining the Aquarium, changing water, conditioning, etc. Please
I love Discus 😍.
This scape is perfect for this fish , good job man 😉👍.
Mike jumped
when i read this comment I wasnt sure what was meant. I completely forgot. But he was ok and I made Iid. I guess I meant I havent lost a fish from jumping.
MD Fish Tanks good good
Merhaba dostum videolarını severek izliyorum sizden bir isteğim var bana saf kan discus lazım yardımcı olma şansın var mı ?
In the starting when he was decorating the woods...The rock in the right holding a wood...is showing a face...like Ouuu...
Did anyone else felt the same...or may be it's jus ma imagination..
SORRY...😅
They are really gorgeous fish and they stand out so sharply against the green. Love the scape also, simple but beautiful.
BLESSED MY DAY SEEING THIS BEAUTIFUL DISCUS... Thank you... thank you...
Tank looks amazing 🥰
What are them filters you're using?
Is a FX6 to much for the same size tank as yours?
You done an awesome job with the landscaping ✌️🏴
Award winning tank and fish. That would look really good in my living room.🐟🌿😄👍
!!red alert!! High level fish protocol.. I have 1 week to prep a tank it has like a strip say 8.0. ph hydrogen.. Not measured with a kit. I have fatty golds in there in which I am moving. Tomorrow to a more acidic level. 6.5-7. My guys on md. my Boss ordered discuss and I need some advise besides videos!! halp.
MD for some advice with discus there spines are not that strong so you shouldn’t put them in a net to get them in the tank the good way to get them in is by your hands
How hard was it for you to convince your wife to let you get all expensive discus?
Tanning. I have a very large driftwood that I am about to put in my 75 gal tank. 3 ,large discus. 5 large clown loaches. Do the LOACHES like TANNING? I cant find the answer o. Google. Cause that wood DOES leak.
Expensive fish, tank looks stunning, filters are amazing but the top, bro I wouldn't think twice (specially with $250/fish) buying an expensive top. BTW that lamp, I would not trust hanging it from the tile ceiling, tiles are so fragile the lamp could fall at anytime. Like I said, expensive top bro, buy one. It would look even better.
How long did u waited before adding fish? Please don't say one day, because it looks like a day.
I found out that a small presence light at night gives Discus a ref point (like the moon if you want) and avoid Discus to jump. Leads are the "better safe than sorry" solution.
I've got and GU10 0.5w led spot bulb always on for 10 years now on my 300L and no Discus jumped ever after.
6 is good number, if you notice to much fight on one individual, get a few more.
For the food, got for Tropical discus granules, all of them...
Really amazing set-up. Love the discuss in there. Looking forward to an update video on this soon. One suggestion though may be you should consider covering the sides and back so that the fish don't stress out. Keep doing what you do. Love from India
BETTING that the plexi sagged after a few weeks. Would be interested in seeing update on this. I've been doing plexi tops on my tanks for a while. Anything less than 3/4"-3/8" will sag due to condensation. You need something sturdier.
Very cool as I expected from the previews on instagram. It was especially great to see this one done with low tech plants to see what can be created with simple materials
6 BIG FISH IN A MASSIVE TANK - yet a lack of swim space ( just my opinion) i do think just 1 scape and not 2 may have been better, although it looks great
Hi mate.I bought a 130 litter fish tank. But bit confused of which gravel I can use it. Sand or gravel? I have some goldfish and tetras .. Please give some advice mate. Thank you..I like your videos very much.
One of the best documentations I’ve ever seen. Awesome tank and scaping! Those discus are huge and beautiful. 👍👍
I'm skeptical MD. Discus in bright lights and white sands AND where they can see you as well as you see them?..not long term. Very shy, delicate fish.
Discus people hate I say that all the time..but I don't think the breeders say I'm wrong. Good luck!...avoid tubifex worms. Sooner or later one is a parasite or carries them. Try Wattleys Discus food recipe. I had sued similar for years when I had them and spawned them.
I'm new to the channel. Another bad ass build. I'm fond of a black background so the colors pop more. But incredible nonetheless! I just got myself a 75g tank and I'm looking forward to have discus for the first time ever!
Жаль что нет перевода(! А так всё классно! Всегда рад посмотреть!!👍👌
Biscuits are not jumpers so you don't need a top
not usually, buy when spooked they go nuts and might leap.
Love the outcome! Very nice!
I do have one problem with your videos (and it is really just MY problem): I can't stand this type of music. It just sounds sort of... broken. And it makes it hard to watch these videos because I do want to hear what you say but keep muting the music parts.
any tips regarding lighting and discus fish ! Discus doesn't n like lights and plant like lights how to make them both feel comfortable.?? Thanks
Hello, MD Fish Tanks I saw that you added plants without technical soil, do they only survive with the tropica fertilizer? Thank you for your reply.
Hi
It is very beautiful😍
Please tell me the temperature of water and liquid fertilizer you use for plants?and co2
Those are magnificent fish! Absolutely stunning! I also enjoy getting to see the road and countryside during your travels! Oh, and your family is adorable.
Hello, my friend! You have a wonderful aquarium! 😎👍
Beautiful fish👍. Great aquarium😍. I like your movies very much. Greetings from Poland🙂
Hi. I do not speak English, sorry. First beautiful aquarium and thank you very much for the video. What kind of rock did you use? Thank you
Why tf do you have a child in a carseat in THE FRONT of your car? I could understand if it was a pickup truck with no backseat, but you have a back row in your vehicle. You should know that in the event of an accident the deployed air bag will snap his neck like a twig. Then the other one isn't even riding in a harnessed car seat. Some people are careless af with their kids lives but to each his own lmao.
Beautiful your aquarium. I didn't understand how the plants will survive without having the fertile substrate, the anubias I know they don't need.
Just wondering if 11 months on you still have your discus in a planted tank?
And if so have you experienced any problems?
It's really good and awesome but 1 thing... Probably too much plants for discus fish.
My mind is blown. Absolutely stunning scape. It really makes the colors of the fish stand out. Great job.
It’s really a very beautiful Discus tank. Congratulations. I’ve been following your videos since long time. You are ver passionate about this hobby.
Here I would like to suggest if following points are covered in your video it will be more meaningful to learners;
Details of...
1. Filters
2. Filter Media
3. Filter maintenance schedule
4. Fertilisers dosage
5. Water changes
6. Heaters
7. Siphoning strategy
8. Food & feeding schedule
9. Water treatment procedures
10. Preferred medicine & Medication strategy.
I know being a new tank most of above listed items are yet to be performed. But I hope if you could able to include in your upcoming videos of this tank, that will be great.
One point I found background wall is distracting whole view of tank. Need to have plain bg.
And yes your kids are very cute.
God bless you all 🙏😊
I have a question for you MD Fish Tank. I bought a fluvial 29 tall (110 litre) fish tank and i would like to know something. What i need to know when i will start my fish tank ( i want to make something similiar you did with your 3 fancy goldfish(orenda i think) is about the resistance of the glass when you put some big rock inside you tank. do you have a ratio for that. I ask this because i don't want my tank to start to be to heavy for the glass. I hope you understand my question.thanks and I hope to get news from you
The fish are stunning and the scape really compliments their beauty
I thought millennial stone has limestone in it which would increase pH bc of acidic water that discus like. Did u have any issues with pH and kH
How often are you doing water changes and how many gallons are you changing?
