My grandpa passed away last yr from cancer. The only video i have of him is him singing to this song snd playing the guitar . This reminds me of him and i immediately ugly cry. It hurts so much having to lose him who raised me my whole life . I didnt even get to say goodbye and thank him and tell him i love him. My life changed after that. It made me appreciate the people around me more than i have and tell them how much i love them and i am grateful to have them. He was the wisest and most wonderful man i have ever known and met. Now My future children will never get the chance to have him in their life .

Memories are a powerful thing. Nobody can ever take away. I'm 57, lost my mom when I was 27.... She loved the Carpenters, think many of us did. Love having memories of certain songs and can actually feel that very moment as though it was happening for the 1st time. Cherish them doll..... It's the next best thing to living the moment.

Hands down, the best female vocalist of her generation and, arguably, of all time. Pure and simple yet elegant, she sang the song without a lot of tricks or vocal acrobatics. No shouting. Her articulation of the lyrics was perfect. She sang both the low and high notes equally well, weaving them like smooth silk in one breath. Many musical legends have admired Karen Carpenter’s voice: John Lennon, Leon Russell, Paul Williams, Paul MCartney, Michael Jackson, Peter Cetera of “Chicago”, Frank Sinatra, Perry Como, Harry Mancini, etc. Her talent was simply out-of-this-world.

I work in the business and I have seen many soundchecks sound god awful- then the live show and suddenly these people sound decent. Most of them couldn't shine Karen's shoes vocal wise.

Nice words.... though the good lord had nothing to with her untimely death. She had a decease that was not generally understood in the 70's and 80's and her heart gave up as a result. Very sad but one thing we can all agree on is that she is in heaven and heaven is a better place for it.
Agree with you Paul. The execution of the music is just so damn perfect. And I suppose it was the pressure of attaining and holding perfection was what ultimately caused KC's demise. Orlando... I was born in '62 so when I first heard the Carpenter's I was about 7 or 8. Had their records and played them all the time. Her voice was one so lovely and unique, extremely pleasant to listen to plus she sang with sincere feeling. The 70's were a great time for me and full of all my favorite bands/solo singers till this day. Richard and Karen were the best brother and sister duo hands down..at least to me.

June 2020!! I once turned this song into a prayer during a church service and a lot of people were really inspired by the words, they were amazed to find it was a Carpenters Song.
I grew up in Downey CA and had the opportunity to met Karen and her brother in the late 70s two of the nicest people you would ever want to meet. RIP Karen you are missed and your voice will always be golden to my heart.

Those low notes sung so richly and effortlessly … just that one point makes her the finest singer ever. Add her range, her always-perfect pitch, her depth of emotion in every note, her phrasing, timing, and golden, godgiven tone … please tell me who comes even close to Karen Carpenter as a singer.
There a few singers who would sing circles around her but i guess because they don't usually sing in this style or their color they won't ever be given a chance to show that or if they have done this style and showed it.... There's something special with the music from the late 60's and early 70's such as this one. Its so much more mature and musical than the cheesy, overproduced, teenager-type of mainstream music today. I think love songs around that era are the most memorable and best to fall in love with.

Her articulation of the lyrics was perfect. She sang both the low and high notes equally well, weaving them like smooth silk in one breath. Many musical legends have admired Karen Carpenter’s voice: John Lennon, Leon Russell, Paul Williams, Paul MCartney, Michael Jackson, Peter Cetera of “Chicago”, Frank Sinatra, Perry Como, Harry Mancini, etc. Her talent was simply out-of-this-world.

Orlando... I was born in '62 so when I first heard the Carpenter's I was about 7 or 8. Had their records and played them all the time. Her voice was one so lovely and unique, extremely pleasant to listen to plus she sang with sincere feeling. The 70's were a great time for me and full of all my favorite bands/solo singers till this day.
