Revell 1/48 Boeing B-17G by modeler Jim Nakuchi and presented/reviewed at the January 8, 2025, meeting of the Tacoma Green Dragons, International Plastic Modelers' Society (IPMS).
I remember building this kit as a kid during the 1970s. Was excited to have saved up enough money to buy this kit by working a part time job. Sad part was that the kit did NOT have any of the C-L-E-A-R parts!!!! After being devastated that this kit had no clear parts (luck of the draw), still put it together. Did not care about any fit problems nor painted it. Shortly afterwards a friend and I took a BB gun to it, shot it full of holes, and then burned it!!!
An interesting old kit. I think, though, that the ones I'd go for now are the recent 1/48 scale models by HK Models. They are very finely detailed kits. And in 1/72 there are some great B-17's by Airfix.
Regarding the stated 10 crewmen per B-17, 9 member crews largely became the standard with the 8th AF as the war progressed. Often there were only a few fully trained bombardiers dispersed within the group flight formation. Often the navigator became a “Toggle-ier”. There is film footage showing lead ships dropping their bombs with smoke grenades attached to their bombs. This would signal the rest of the group (or at least a squadron) to “Toggle their load”.
For the content creator - having such a long & drawn out intro is NOT helping your channel any... Think about it, when you click on someone else's video for whatever subject, do you want to watch over a minute of generic text / music first? Or would you rather get on with it. Same difference, it'll help you reach more people in the long run, if you don't put them off in the first few seconds each time
