Hey SwitchUp Family - hopefully this one is of use to some of you and of interest to others! A curious tale around the 2020 remake and then subequent re-remake. Mark
Can anyone confirm if the current patched version of XIII is smooth/playable ? Most reviews complain about serious playability issues, but i think most reviews were made before patches. Please advise. It is currently on sale on the eshop for less than 10$. I am a big fan of the comic.
I bought it today for approximately 3 dollars in the Mexican eshop and it was never updated, the version is still 1.0, it is playable, but not worth it for the full price
It's too bad because this was an absolutely gem of a game when it was initially released and is definitely I game I would be willing to purchase and play again.. It's even worse knowing that this is a remake of a remake.... I will at least give credit where credit is due that they were willing to make a remake of their remake instead of washing their hands entirely of it after it initially flopped. Hopefully this is better on other platforms because it truly is a great game.
I know what you mean, but in all honesty, I play it on table mode, so my switch is sitting on the table and I’m playing it with a pro controller. And it looks and plays great. At least the campaign is feeling very close to a good remake of the game we all loved. Maybe it’s my nostalgia and yeah I want more of the original and feel what you said. But still it’s not trash playing it like table mode. There it scores 17 out of 20 for experience. In handheld it’s noticeable and weird. So yeah that shouldn’t be. And I would like the original sounds better. Like why? Sound makes a lot of nostalgia feeling, like they never heard an old song. No we need the remastered song where they changed notes? No really it’s nit the same song. Nope but still after so much time, I’m happy to have it on the switch. Sigh.
Yeah same... was hoping this one would be proper.. apparently they don't have access to the original files or something? I remember hearing something similar with the gta trilogy.. this and killer7 stick out as very stylish shooters I never got to try when they came out... hope killer7 can come out somehow
Got the game. Never played the original remake The performance is underwhelming but I will say that the 25 fps feels somewhat stable and the gyro aiming is much more accurate than expected (and allows for higher gyro sensitivities) I’ve played just about every fps on switch and it’s nice to finally get a decent one with realistic weapons (doom is great but those guns make it feel more like an arcade shooter) This is probably the closest I’ve played to a cod/timesplitters game that isn’t a mobile game and includes good controls and gyro That alone knocks it up to a 7.5/10 ish for me, taking the price point into account, but an upgrade to a fixed 30 frames would definitely bump it up to an 8/8.5
I loved this game on the PS2 I still have it and played it during the covid lockdown but I’ll wait for a sale and some patches before I pick it up so far now I’ll wishlist it
Ah, a real shame. The comicesque art looks quite nice and single-system multiplayer is a huge plus for me. But the unstable performance is a killer. Hope it gets patched soon. Nice review btw, got straight to the point with informative performance and visual reviews.
I've never understood un-capping a frame rate. All it does for me is make the drops more jarring. Capping at 30, even with a scaling resolution is such a better solution in my view, especially for a 1st person shooter.
It's amazing that they didn't ask you, and then ignore their own opinions, and everyone else's, and any development reasons there might be, and just do exactly what you want. I bet Mummy never said no when you wanted a candy bar at the check-out, did she?
@@philsurtees You just come off like an idiot with this statement. Not only is it needlessly condescending and unwarranted, for him simply giving his opinion. But despite him framing it like an opinion, what he says is also a objective truth. Uncapped framerate will result in more visible stutter as opposed to capped framerate.
I’m surprised the the multiplayer mode only has deathmatch and team death match. The GameCube version has Capture the flag and even Hunt modes on top of TDM. Also no bots is disappointing because the OG version had bots in all versions and even PC.
I got this on Saturday and it really bugged me how poor the frame rate is. Everything else is a massive improvement, but they just need to hold their promise of 30fps! They’ve got me twice with this damn game now, that’s how much I love it!
Yeah I agree, I don’t know why on Earth they put “Switch at 30fps” in their promotional material that was asking for trouble if they didn’t do it. Mark
@@SwitchUpYt how did you guys get this? I've checked the US Nintendo eShop and nada. There just isn't any info or a way to download this game. I thought it was delayed or something
I wish the local split screen had more options like the original such as capture the flag etc for me the split screen was always the best part in the old days on the GameCube or ps2 I had it for both consoles
Played the original XIII on Xbox... completely forgotten about it until I saw this release on the eShop... in fact, I nearly forgot about the majority of games in the wake of Halo 2 & 3.
Bought this game back in the day for the first Xbox. Loved the game, and discovered the comics as well. It looks aged, but should be fun to play again - when it is on sale.
Glad they fixed most of the issues. Even tho I'm an avid Fps I never got around to playing the original. Still looking like a game to buy on a hefty discount. I'm not exactly lacking in the amount of games to play atm.

@@SwitchUpYt Switch GTA just looks like a PS2 port lol, how they didn't just update the PS2 port with the controls, resolution & aim for 60fps is beyond me.

I played the PS2 game back in the day and was extremely hyped for this remake. Bought it on release on PC and instantly refunded it. Even though it got updated I'm not too keen on buying it and trying a second time.
I am a huge fan of the original game and I still play it from time to time on my Xbox 360. Believe it or not when the game came out bashing your enemies with chairs, bottles and brooms was considered quite cool. All they had to do was just upscale the graphics and leave the rest alone, no way the original wouldn't run like butter on modern consoles; it pains me that they botched it so much, even though the Switch version does look vastly improved.
I've been modestly hyped for this game as it's one I missed when it originally came out. Hearing it's having performance issues even at just 30 fps is a disappointment. If they patch this one up and I can find it on sale it will most likely end up in my library but with these issues I'm in no rush to get it.
@@captainmurphy7711 I don't have an old console. I ended up buying it at $40 which IS a rip off but I'm actually really enjoying it.
