SEGA created server-side saving that because a lot of us hackers were using PCs and crossover cables to manipulate the GameCube into giving us super rare items on PSO when the games saved on memory cards. SSS was the predecessor to cloud saving.

Fantastic review for the MemCard Pro GC! In-depth as always, and looks to be an essential for GC owners. I preordered mine back in November, and can’t wait to get this later this month.
@@TheAlphaOmegaX3 Honestly, having a way to have almost limitless memory cards makes it essential for me. More convenient than constantly swapping memory cards, and trying to remember which saves files are on which cards. 👍

Yeah, I thought the same. Such a missed opportunity
Put my pre-order in last year. Swiss has its own virtual memory card but I love the idea of this. I see no reason to stop adding mods to my gamecube after the picoboot, blueretro board and a prism (not brave enough to do the recent hdmi mod without owning a desolder station and proper heat gun).
Wow man, how far you've come. I love seeing the new vids all the time. Just bought a gamecube and it should be on the way here soon. I can't wait to put all the mods you've done with yours into it. It's been too long since I had to abandon my last gamecube. Excited to build the collection again. Still can't believe I had to abandon my copy of pikmin 2 T_T. Allowing this to work as an FTP server is actually *exactly* what I was hoping for. With that (and software to ensure files are constantly synced when available, like SyncThing) you could actually ensure game saves are synced between multiple GameCubes or even with Dolphin *seamlessly*.
One thing I’d love to see incorporated is a shared storage for the PS1 & PS2 memory card unit and the GC memory card unit. Basically if you only want a 32gb micro sd card to be used for either or, they will read the files of the PS games when inserted in the PS memory card and when it’s inserted in the GC memory card it’ll read the GC files, and when they hopefully make one for the DreamCast, Xbox and N64 if they can make this happen you can share a single micro sd card with all of your old save files

Glad to see more USB host mode used on these microcontrollers. ESP32, Arduino Zero, Teensy 4, and likely many others, all support it in hardware. BTW, should chat up some of your connections about controller adapters. Personally looking into reading Xinput from a wired Xbox one controller to use it to control anything I want.

The possible SD size might seem overkill but it is great for people who need to use a Memory Card for their Custom Firmware if they use the newer model of GameCubes If this Card allows to run games off of it
From a previous video of yours doing a review of the pico boot. I’m not a siring person so I traded my GameCube in for one that has a pico boot using Swiss already modded with an HDMI port. So far I love booting out my game boy player through the pico boot. I saw this item on Amazon and I decided to watch this video of this memory card. Sounds great looks good. There is one thing that’s driving me crazy. I’m playing GBA’s games. Normally, I could save it the regular way. How would you save Game Boy games. I would hold the R and L trigger buttons. It brings me to a sub menu where it says save but it doesn’t save it. I would like to either save it on the GBA cartridge or save it onto the memory card. Would you know how to save on the memory card or on the cartridge.
Ever since getting the PS1 version, I was hoping to have one for my GC and PS2. The 3rd party memory card game can be a crapshoot and the 1st party mems are just rising in price
I have a better workaround for this bug. Try using a custom boot animation like flippyboot ipl. Should give the time needed I would think. You can also configure a pause.
Well it seems I'll likely be bringing my gamecube out of retirement as everything i wanted to do internally can be done externally (from full digital HDMI to disk reader emulation) and now you're telling me that cloud saving is right around the corner? Great video as always!
Really promising, looking forward to it! One thing that I'd like to add: Some save files like town datas from Animal Crossing or Pokemon Box files can't be copied with a standard Gamecube since it would be an easy way to duplicate Pokemons or Animal Crossing towns. I obviously haven't used a MemCard Pro GC by now but I think the way to go there would be to move the file to the MemCard Pro GC, copy the data from the SD card to your PC or elsewhere, move it back to your memory card, and then to copy the save file on your PC back on the MemCard Pro GC.

Nice hopefully they come out one for the Sega Dreamcast that is also a VMU but needs a color screen so someone can make the mini vmu games with color but the card needs a rechargeable battery in it too that can be charged through the console from the controller or connected to a power source.
I'm probably gonna have to get it when its in stock. I didnt get the original since I don't use the original playstation often but gamecube? That's my jam
The PS1 version is an absolute triumph, especially when paired with the xStation ODE. I'll probably skip this one because I mainly rely on my modded Wii for GameCube games (and that uses virtual memory cards already), but if you use a physical GameCube regularly, don't sleep on this.
Got this but it's so frustrating, firmware done but no IP Address and just the wifi logo with a cross in the top and nothing in the wifi list on my phone, no way of ringing a support line so what the hell do i do?!
This would be interesting to get since I only have 1 MC with my GC(Sort of started collecting before the boom in retro popularity). But I also would like one for my PS2 over the one time I bought a 64MB MC and it turns out that it makes saving an loading ten times more longer than they have to be compared to a 8MB MC.
I noticed the Teenage Engineering computer cases on your desktop background... do you either make music or mess around with any of their synths? if so, when are we going to hear some?
I swear there were already SD to GameCube adapters. They wouldn't use FAT32 or anything, but you can use a SD card in place of a GameCube memory card, and theoretically use large cards to get really large memory cards.
No SD MC for GameCube can save data. They are used to load cheats for an Action Replay or other apps in Swiss. This is our first real save based SD MC.
the idea that cloud saving can be added into such old consoles that weren't even properly enabled for online at launch is mind-blowing.

16gb is the smallest you could find? I still have 4GB cards from back in the day and also those are huge. Compared to hard drives of the 90s
The fan of my Gamecube doesn't need this. But I might :). Very cool!
Boot delay parameters could be set up with cubeboot to allow for the memcardpro initialize when booting Swiss from picoboot
No way, first the PS1, now they made one for the GC too?? Nicee :0
Nice hopefully they come out one for the Sega Dreamcast that is also a VMU but needs a color screen so someone can make the mini vmu games with color but the card needs a rechargeable battery in it too that can be charged through the console from the controller or connected to a power source.
How does this work on the Wii when playing GameCube games? I have the MemCard Pro for PS1 and would love to get this one if it works with the Wii.
Id love to see this with swiss to be used to use backups on a gamecube with a busted lens.
That's every possible way!
Ordered mine Nov 17. I hope I get mine soon!
