Unvergessliche Zeiten. Er war und bleibt ein Juwel = Klenot.
Here's a fun story for you jazz lovers out there. During the late 60's Chris played here in Bristol at a well known jazz pub. He went to his hotel after he played and they said he was too late. So my aunty took him in for the night and he slept on her couch.
Had the pleasure of seeing and meeting chris barber when he played at Nantwich jazz festival one year. As i said to him as we bought a couple of cds from him personally at the stall during the interval. Never saw the best gigs as they were done before i was born, or at least 3 or 4 years after i was born. But he was so approachable, friendly, chatty, it was like meeting your favourite uncle. He said, oh you want that one, and he signed it. I still have it.
We traditional jazz enthusiasts owe a tremendous debt to Chris Barber forfueling and driving the revival of this great music and spreading iits joy to the rest of the world. And he stayed true to the music for a full half century
I was very proud to be singing with New City Jazzmen on the same bill as Chris Barber - what a wonderful night all those years ago. Such wonderful music...
I first listened to Chris Barbers Jazz band in 1953 at the Fishmongers Arms pub in Wood Green North London.Ottilie Patterson whom he later married ,sang blues. The hall where they played was at the side of the pub,it was gas lit and the stage lighting was candles on barrels at the front of the stage.Me and my mates jived all night sweating profusely and loving it.
Vic Pitt is an outstanding Bass Player as is the rest of this Band. I guess by now some may have passed away. Heaven must have one Kick Arse Band by now. Great stuff indeed.
Sunday nights at Greenfield Jazz Club always the end of our weekends late 50s early 60s. Chris Barber, Acker Bilk, regulars on the circuit. Still play their records but now in South Africa. My sons will I hope enjoy my collection of music once I clock off.
My lovely Dad joined Chris, and some of his band, in a hotel in Stockport in the early eighties where they were all staying, for a few beers and laughs. Dad said Chris Barber was very nice, and was encouraging when he was told that my Dad had a son who played trombone(me). It is wonderful to hear that such a fine musician was also such a gentleman. RIP DAD and Chris Barber. This music will always bring you back to us. Thank you for uploading.
At a down moment I came across Turk Murphy that made me kick up feet in the old little opera style house with the red belvet curtains .Yescitsvtrue who doesnt get a smile and wants to get up snd kick thier feet up again Thanks Turk Murphy and Frisco Band for the great fun memories...♥️
totally terrific. best mix I've heard in a hell of a lot of vids. That bass was beautiful... and the whole thing pounding along like a horse at full gallop being urged at every stride....
If you're in a bad mood all you have to do is listen to this particular tune by this particular group and you will come up immediately!!! I know because I've done it several times!
Я вообще люблю диксиленд. Пару лет тому нашел в записях 30-х группу Chris Barber, Восхищен! Восхищен и творческим долголетием Mr.Barber и его коллег - Pat Halcox, John Crocker, Jan Wheeler..
saw them at st.helens theatre royal on my 21st, I'm 72 now and still my favourite band, they had Graham Burbidge and John Slaughter then, still got the card the band signed for me.
@@meavethecat1031 it is, far right in the shadows {no pun}, Johnny McCallum on tenor banjo. here he is in 1988, 9 mins in. ua-cam.com/video/wqRgvE-sI4M/v-deo.htmlsi=mzCQPhXzjNp6jQCJ&t=559
Thanks for the video. What a great compact version of this old tune. Good sound. The Chris Barber Band of thie era came very close in sound to the ensemble of earlier years. Before Chris's experiments moved in another direction. ( even the banjo has a Donegan sound. Top Video Thanks
yes, fantastic band. in this case it´s not Alan "Sticky" Wicket on drums but Russel Gilbrook. Not forgetting Johnny McCallum on banjo and the late great John Slaughter on guitar.

Das war die Lieblingsband meines verstorbenen Mannes, for him they were the best.
I’ve seen them about 25 years ago in Groningen. This is no music, this is art at it’s finest.
