- The Datsun Sunny Pickup might be the coolest JDM car that is still cheap to buy. Adam lost his MX5 in the fire and wanted to build a Datsun that was different to the rest, and we think he achieved that! Custom wheels, GTR front end and Lamborghini suspension, yeah.. it's pretty wild! Let us know that you think of the old Nissan Sunny Ute in the comments guys!

Rotary for sure, their reliability gets a bad rep but that's from people cramming a ton of boost through stock motors then beating the hell out of em because they take it. For a bit. But an inspected and rebuilt stock 13b REW running ~15 psi will make 300 whp all day and last years, make all the right noises, and generally be cool as all hell. I feel like it's the only choice that's wild enough to match the energy of this incredible bodywork.
Its gotta get the MX-5 engine, love the idea of it as a memorial.
Im pretty sure the mx5 engine would make it a complete one of a kind Frankenstein

Absolutely love how you guys doubled down after the absolute worst case scenario and are going even more wild now than even when you had the studio. Don’t stress on it, it’ll definitely pay off.
A bridgeport 13B would be sick , the brap² sound coming from a hako truck , you cannot beat that

When there was talks of this getting a kit I was hoping it would be the hakotora kit. It's one of my favourite jdm cars and I'm extremely jealous.

A Datsun L16 or L20 with twin side draft carbs would go so good in this thing, everyone does sr or rotary builds, doing something old school in an old school car would be a good change from the normal!
a wicked built Sr20 is the only engine i could imagine in that truck

The truck is SICK!!! Definitely needs a turbo on whatever motor you do! To have a GTR front end it has to rev high and shoot flames!!! 🔥🔥

So beautiful. It’s a masterpiece. I thought I heard R34 front, got worried, then realized, oh no it wasn’t modern. It stayed true to the roots of the design. Very well done to all that touched it.

Hakotora swaps are sick! I fully agree on the mx5 engine swap idea. There's always a rusty nb/6speed waiting around to be a donor. The engines are light, the box feels good. Everything is cheap and easy to replace. 👌

Not sure about all the vents on the front but the old skyline look is class. Main thing is Adam likes it and TBF, it looks nuts all done

If not an RB, then rotary or something high revving and loads of intake noises. Again, whatever makes you happiest.

Love this kit. I really love it with a paint matched cab on the back, but the TuffTyle looks really good. Can’t wait to see it when Adam puts the finishing touches on it.

Mx5 engine makes sense as it brings in the other cars but then again Josh and Daves new cars do that aswell so you could go completely wild if you wanted to. Sounds mad but id love to see a project with a hayabusa engine swap in it lol
As much as I'd love to see this beauty with 13B or 20B, the MX5 engine replica is much better choice by me for sentimental reasons. Keep it up guys!!

Ho Lee Phak... What a badass Datsun and the greatest i`ve seen. Frontswap looks so freakin amazing, tuff title is such a great idea and the overall pakage is way more then beyond incredible. I could understand, if you`ll swap to Miata engine, but wouldn`t it be way cooler just going completely crazy, investing the same amount of work in an engine you always wanted, but never had. You`re Miata will be lifetime memorie for sure, so full flat out insanity. ;)

Congratulations on your measurements working for the custom wheels. Looks great. If you do a Miata engine have it be similar to the one that burnt but not identical so it embraces the spirit but a little different to bring a uniqueness to it. 👏🏻👍🏻

I would have to see side-by-side pictures to spot the changes because the change is so complete and smoothly realized! On the surface, I would think an MX-5 engine would be borrowing trouble but I can see how it would help tell the story of the rise from the ashes.
