If your going for maximum coins, I recommend taking over gyms at night then putting a pokemon that could easily get knocked out in. That way it's in there all night and in the morning someone else will knock it out and you'll get your 50 coins for the day

Definitely noticed this myself. Turns out a high CP Melmetal scares people from taking the gym usually. If you throw a 12 CP Treecko into a gym that isn't usually as active, it ends up being taken after a day more often than not.
For gym defending I think it’s best to cover the weaknesses of the previous Pokémon in the gyms, but lean towards blissey. If the gym already has chansey and blissey then adding a fighting resist like togekiss or sylveon can force them to switch and annoy them. Hey Poké, don't forget to remember that pokemon dropped at a gym will only use their first charged move (in case you wanna teach them a psychic move) 😉
One tip I have if a gym might turn over in minutes is to go to it and have a golden berry ready. Watch to see if anyone tries to battle it out. When you are down to your last "life" feed your Pokemon the berry. You can hold off a trainer for a long time that way. Hopefully long enough for the gym to populate. I chuck in Blissey, Chansey, Slaking or Snorlax when I want people to have to put time in to take down a gym. People without time just pass. There's a gym near a rural stoplight near my home where I do this. My closest gym is 200m away. It rarely has more than 3 Pokemon in it. I put in 10cp Pokemon and then my daughter changes gym colour 8 hours later and puts another 10cp Pokemon. Most have figured out it's easy coins and also put in low CP Pokemon. We tend to clear out the high CP ones as soon as we can hoping that they'll eventually figure it out. Passing gyms on transportation I'll throw in anything assuming that sheer numbers will get 50 coins in a day.
I just put as many things in gyms throughout the day that I can so that over the week I don't have to worry about it as things gradually just get knocked out. I also am very flavor of the week, if I just took a gym I'm going to put something big and strong in there as an intimidation Factor because I like seeing my Pokemon get chaos, if there's a shiny or some kind of theme going on I will try to match the theme. I also like to put regionals in smaller town gym areas so people can be exposed to Pokemon they may not see very often but if you are a high level and you put some little double digit CP thing in the gym frankly you have my scorn
How could you not mention Wobbuffet? It is tanky, psychic type with psychic moves, has a low max CP so it drains really slowly and whilst it is not the best at knocking your opponent out so have I often noticed people just saying nope to attack it.
Honestly, been playing for years and since I'm between 2 cities most gyms get beat out very fast. If you drop a small pokemon it probably won't last more than 2 hours to ten minutes. I was forced to make a max cp Slaking and some other giant cp pokemon to last in a gym overnight I'm lvl 50. They will get beat out sometime the next day. Using all my berries for buddies means none of my gym defenders get berries. I should... maybe after that platinum buddy badge. I might have to test the Motivation theory until I can stardust up some more giant gym defenders. Love the idea of playrough on my Slaking! Keep up the great work.
I've Slaking IV 4... So that's the highest CP Pokemon in PoGo that I've got 😍 and I love to get Golden Gym badges on different gyms and has 45 Golden badges and just love spill Yellow colour wherever I go and hunt gyms 😇 Its one of the reasons to keep myself motivated to play PoGo continuously
I don't get why people would want to leave their pokemon for a long time in a gym. I just need them to last 8 hours so I can get my 50 coins. That's why I only add them to gyms late at night. I was already putting low CPs in the gym, but because I want them to get knocked out early in the morning. I had no idea about this decay factor. Thank you for the video, very helpful, as usual.
I always put of bunch of my Pokémon at night 9 pm in certain Gyms and wait to get 50 Poké Coins next day. Also, I usually leave Shiny Dittos for defending Gyms so that people are more enthusiastic in beating that Blue Bubblegum which can copy their attacking Pokémon.
There is one Gym in my field of view I didn't get to gold yet. It's because players of opposing teams live there. They have no mercy. My Pokemon don't last even more than 3 hours in the Gym. Guess I have to get the Gym through Raids to gold.
i usually go by 3 categories when putting mons in. 1- gyms i wanna golden and are popular in community so the mon has to fight back: i usually put like dragonite, melmetal to have maximum intimadation + possible candy gain from feeding berries. 2- gyms that are somewhat popular but i wanna last longer: so i throw in blissey, chansey, wobufffet. 3- gyms that are just not getting much play: shiny or costumed mons or pokemon i dont have any other use for
My tip would be to place a Pokémon that counters the last placed Pokemon’s counters. In a full gym with assorted Pokémon this can make it much more difficult/timely for people to take down. That said if you are in a populated city chances are you are going down regardless what you or anyone else put in a gym.
I just toss my 20 cp golden carp in a gym, I usually get the 50 coins when I do that. It usually gets knocked out the next day and that works for me. My team of 6 champs just knock down any 1 or 3 day old gyms super easy no matter what's in it. In my area it really doesn't matter what you put in a gym, its going to be in there for 8 hours plus no matter what. Haven't had to worry about a pokemon getting knocked out of a gym to early for years now.
An example of what I do when picking a defender is look at the ones that are already there. Example if there is an empty spot, and there is a Blissey there, auto picks will usually put in fighting attackers. There are 6 types that fighting is weak against. So pick one, if I have it, that is 2 of those types like Beedrill which fighting is weak against both bug and poison. Autopicks end up having to pick less optimal Pokémon to defeat both Blissey and Beedrill.
I did also notice that rare or new released Shiny Pokemon(not CDay) don't even last 24 hours in my area. It's a great way to get coins for the current day if you haven't yet.
A few other decent ones for gym defending are Wobbuffet and Shuckle. I really love using shiny Wobbuffet, cause the motivation dissipates slowly and it looks goooood😉 I had something else to say, but already forgot😅 If I remember, I'll come back and comment🤔
What about the people that always have to have a gym? There is a group of the same exact 6 people in both gyms that are near my apartment. If anyone that isn't the 6 adds a Pokemon they somehow just get kicked (more of less just switching to another account until that new person gets kicked then adding in the person they wanted I'm assuming) They always seem to have an endless golden razz and somehow take out a gym in less than 2 seconds which I didn't this it was possible. (if I can try to get it recording - I would take the gym put a Pokemon in as soon as I open the items menu to heal Pokemon I would see the Pokemon I just put in and then I get the message your Pokemon fought hard) they have had the gym for like the last 3 months or so. I just stopped trying. As well as anyone else around the area because unless it's that exact 6 all the time no one is allowed apparently.
Those people are selfish jerks. I'm fortunate because in my suburb, most of us agree to leave one another in until all gym defenders have their 9 hours / 50 coins.
I just throw some of my strongest if I'm not using it, with best buddy and I like to best buddie pokemon that people won't normally have, like arbok lol. I can't stand when ppl put weak mons in the gym. yes the motivation would last longer but if it's gonna get taken out it really doesn't matter so might as well make em work for those coins.
I like to use gyms to "shiny flex". Also, I berry gyms all the time so I try to put in Pokemon that I need extra candy on. Lately my shiny Salamance has been a go-to of mine. But if i need to become gold in the gym I usually go Blissey/Chansey.
As you say regarding your own goal of getting coins, the choice of defender really comes down to playing style and preference. My main goal has always been gold gyms, something I believe is probably the least pursued goal globally(but what I find fun). For holding gyms it highly depends on location (urban/rural, drive-by possibility or not), which determines what I put in. For example, using Shuckle is something that can be quite useful because of it's massive defense and low CP-max at lvl 50, making it easy to keep fully motivated without golden.
So good to see that my theory of keeping low cp Pokemon in gyms is actually right. I thought of doing this coz my Pokemon return after 2-3 days but I still get 50 coins on the day they return
What I usually do is I wake up early and head to my local park that has two gyms there. I catch random Pokémon that are a little over 1,000 CP, take out the gyms, and place those Pokémon in there. So instead of doing 8-9 hours for my 50 coins, I only do half the time since I take over two gyms. Started doing this method since I was getting low on revives and heals so it was easier to just transfer Pokémon to save resources. But obviously not many people wake up early to take gyms or have two gyms that accessible to them. I just got picky with where I am at 👀
i swear on god ive been doing this since launch and people find it insulting to have to go through it 3 times to not bother. easy to heal. a flex. i love it
Everyone in my town always throw in super tanky high cp pokemon even though it doesnt stop me taking them down, just makes it a bit more tedious, I know other trainers will do the same, and I want my daily coins so I always throw in
Losing less cp over time does not equate to better imo. "BETTER" I is equated by which poke's get you the most in game currency that cost IRL money. Just gold razer your pokemon once every 3 hours with a 2500cp chansey and your almost guaranteed 50 coins if the gyms fills up along you.
What i do when i put a pokemon in a gym i wait 15/10 min before a raid is staring. When the raid is going you can't battle in a gym. And wait until the raid is over.
I remember my friends dad had a pokemon in a gym in a spot without internet and it stayed there for months until there was a update which removed every pokemon from gyms it was there for at least 6 months or so and this was at least before 2018 because that's when I stopped playing
When I'm trying to stay in a gym for a while I throw in higher CP pokemon which I wouldn't really use in PvE/PvP otherwise (Snorlax, Blissey, Slaking) and just giving them 2 spammy charge moves that have coverage against their weaknesses. Sure, their CP decays after a while, but that "fear effect" as well as the additional cost in potions incurred if the gym battler gets caught by a play rough from Slaking, for instance, can help steer the lesser trainers away from challenging your gyms, meaning you can stay in longer.
Idk why Pokémon content creators don’t do this but you should put a graphic together of the list you just gave us That way we can screenshot the list for future reference W content nevertheless
i been testing this with my 50 umbreon last up to about 3 days 40 goodra last 2 days compered to my 1 day 40 slaking and it drain rate 1/3 . so yes motivation is what matters.
I put my shinys & rarer pokemon in gyms especially locally theres alot of the same trainers in them so mainly for the flex or I put the pokemon with CP i dont/cant use in gbl like my 1520cp Lucario.
Pro tip for city people: in Hong Kong, if ur in some active gym, just don’t even try to get a good Pokémon in, can you even get a Pokémon into the gym is the question, and make sure u put strong in as these gyms constantly are attacked and u never get 50 coins trust me
My Quagsire has been in there for almost 2 weeks. And I own most of the best defenders and a lot of Chansey and Blissey. I have 3 slaking, fully evolved Eeveelutions from the wild, and lots of stuff.
you covered a scare factor but not an important one which is TIME. a gym with dead pokemon is easy and people dont care what the pokemon in gym as 1 quick round knock, but if most got health it will be left alone as takes time to knock it. like you said is someone wants to knock it doesnt matter but overall time to knock matters. low cp good a after day as still got health and chancy is great but you mentioned fighting to knock but you forgot to mention the other pokemon in gym and this goes back to TIME. most people want 1 round and go with recommended so chancy or bliss paired with something else like wobbuffet which also a good under 1k cp pokemon you will notice the recommended is not fighting to knock so if want quicker knock you need to change teams which takes time to change, people often don't change recommended and cant be bothered hanging around knocking gym. big cp only good if you watching and know someone going to knock as after a couple hrs its already useless but the 1k cp still got a few rounds. Basically those health bars the biggest factor not the pokemon as most consider the TIME to knock the gym
i wish they would up the amount of pokecoins you can earn from gyms to 50 per gym per day, as opposed to the just 50 per day that it is now, it would really help those who can't always be putting their pokemon in gyms
I put stuff in gyms I want to feed I often have 1000 1500 berries to feed so not only do I get the candy chance each Berry pays me 30 stardust. Not to mention feeding builds gold quicker meaning extra items.
This information I already knew. I don't put anything over 2k cp in gyms. 1500cp is the max I normally put in gyms. I use Lucario to take down gyms. Best mon to use... has resists to fairy n psychic moves due to its metal/steel typing it has
recently, I've been putting very low cp pokemon in gyms (like around 300 cp) so then the opposite of the scare effect happens and people want to take my pokemon down
I wish they would finally let us use legendary Pokémon at gyms since it’s easy to take down a gym, plus in tired of seeing the same Pokémon at every gym
My cousin and I live together and we both have a hundo Chansey and Blissey level 50. We each put one in two gyms and since both run Psychic many people have trouble taking them down
Just live in the middle of nowhere, there are a few gyms close to me, but it's in the middle of nowhere so my Pokémon are generally in the gyms for at least 50 days. Means I got my gym defender medal really quick but I rarely get coins :(
Do you golden the gyms? Lots of my friends including me are gym golders, as we use multiple strategies not only to get the coins, but mainly to make the gyms up to gold. I know Mystic 7 doesn't even have the defender medal. Do you make vids on good strategies to make a gym gold?
Funny Story 2 days ago i was on the way there was a Gym from my color with space i wanted to place but someone attacked right then i have an Pokemon with high Max CP an golden Berry and then this Person left the Gym and i have can placed. What i want to say that the scare effect works
For gyms myself I just chuck in transferable pokemon I'm only there for the coins. Done my defender badge, berry badge so it's just for the daily coins. With this "method" I save other resources for raiding.
i thought this was super common knowledge. If you want your pokemons to die fast for coins then put smth like slacking who will loose cp fast and be defeated in 1 battle, but if you want you pokemon to stay then put in first evolution low cp pokemon which will be annoying to defeat because you will probably need to fight it 3 times to defeat it
I prefer chancey and wobbofet because they won't go over 1500 CP, but if you check them out, they have high HP too. I sometimes look at what's already in there to diversify the different types. Also, pokemon will recommend based on what type the highest CP Pokemon in there is. So when rushing to defeat the gym before the owners are notified that their pokemon need attention and use golden raspberries (this could lead to a long fight) I don't like spending time creating a custom team. So say, the highest CP Pokemon in there is electric. The game will probably recommend a team of ground types. I would say put in a water type to make the attacker switch, or end up using more potions/revives later. Sometimes playing smarter is better (and more fun, knowing you can cause the attacker some frustration, pun intended).
The thing about putting chansey in a gym is its not really a challenge to beat. If you use a Passimian or a good fighting type then chansey isn't a problem
If your going for maximum coins, I recommend taking over gyms at night then putting a pokemon that could easily get knocked out in. That way it's in there all night and in the morning someone else will knock it out and you'll get your 50 coins for the day

So that's the highest CP Pokemon in PoGo that I've got 😍 and I love to get Golden Gym badges on different gyms and has 45 Golden badges and just love spill Yellow colour wherever I go and hunt gyms 😇
Its one of the reasons to keep myself motivated to play PoGo continuously
I don't get why people would want to leave their pokemon for a long time in a gym. I just need them to last 8 hours so I can get my 50 coins. That's why I only add them to gyms late at night. I was already putting low CPs in the gym, but because I want them to get knocked out early in the morning. I had no idea about this decay factor. Thank you for the video, very helpful, as usual.
Just the guide I needed. Im always contemplating which pokemon to defend gyms. Thanks for the video
My level 51 Blissey says wadddup
My 4k CP slaking no longer has a use!
But you get 50 pokecoins
Lol imo Slaking never had a place in gyms. It is very easy to take out
@@GrimmjowwJ yeah it's just a tad bit harder to knockout since It reaches 5k cp
@@Fxrrari just bit lol but slaking have yawn as fast move is sooo dookie lol
Never did
I always put of bunch of my Pokémon at night 9 pm in certain Gyms and wait to get 50 Poké Coins next day.
My partner and I put matching shiny mons in gyms when we take them. You'd be amazed how many trainers follow suit!
never knew this, i knew something was odd when my pokemon seem to be getting weaker quicker than the others, but i never though it would be like this
Such a good video! Thank you for the content you can’t find anywhere else. Very informative!
I currently have a pokemon in a gym that's been there for 50 days. The gym is on top of a mountain in a small town in Scotland
My lvl 1 2% IV shiny beldum named Macho Man: What is my purpose?
Me: You get knocked out of a gym for pokecoins
Macho Man: Oh my gosh
I was surprised not to see wobbuffet listed.
I learn something new every day I play this game. I had no idea this whole “motivation” thing was even a thing. Dope!
I really love using shiny Wobbuffet, cause the motivation dissipates slowly and it looks goooood😉
I had something else to say, but already forgot😅 If I remember, I'll come back and comment🤔
My 811 cp Wobbuffet that has 200< health: *my time has come*
What about the people that always have to have a gym? There is a group of the same exact 6 people in both gyms that are near my apartment. If anyone that isn't the 6 adds a Pokemon they somehow just get kicked (more of less just switching to another account until that new person gets kicked then adding in the person they wanted I'm assuming)
They always seem to have an endless golden razz and somehow take out a gym in less than 2 seconds which I didn't this it was possible.
That would be nuts if one person owned 6 accounts just to do that but also then they wouldn't get coins because people would give up?
I mean yeah-
It's like 8 and a half hours to get 50 coins or something so after that your garunteed to get it unless 50 coin daily limit
My area is too active for this strategy to work. Usually anything below 2000CP will get targeted within just a single hour.
i found this out like 1.5 years ago ahahha but i love that u leak it so everybody can enjoy it
What I usually do is I wake up early and head to my local park that has two gyms there. I just got picky with where I am at 👀
i swear on god ive been doing this since launch and people find it insulting to have to go through it 3 times to not bother. easy to heal. a flex. i love it
I like your videos their fun to watch
Slaking, Tyrannitar, Salamence. :)
Great video mate! Keep at it 👌
Everyone in my town always throw in super tanky high cp pokemon even though it doesnt stop me taking them down, just makes it a bit more tedious, I know other trainers will do the same, and I want my daily coins so I always throw in
Losing less cp over time does not equate to better imo. "BETTER" I is equated by which poke's get you the most in game currency that cost IRL money. Just gold razer your pokemon once every 3 hours with a 2500cp chansey and your almost guaranteed 50 coins if the gyms fills up along you.
wobbufet is really good because it has a low cp and high defence AND it has charm one of the best attacks
Shuckle is an insane gym defender. Beating it is a slog due to high defense and its motivation deteriorates VERY slowly.
What i do when i put a pokemon in a gym i wait 15/10 min before a raid is staring. When the raid is going you can't battle in a gym. And wait until the raid is over.
I always use drifblim in gyms with many normal types because drifblim is 3x resisted to fighting.
I too do this. I will always keep a Pokemon that is strong against the type other Pokemons are weak to.
@@pokechannel9758 and drifblim has also a low cp and a high bulk
@@Mollyking-nj9sd that's why I said I too do this.
Does iv matter for gym defense?
@@sailing_dutchman No not really, the cp and moveset is more important
Me who doesn’t care and put a shiny to flex, that still stays enough time for max pokecoin gain :
Idk why Pokémon content creators don’t do this but you should put a graphic together of the list you just gave us
That way we can screenshot the list for future reference
W content nevertheless
My go to gym Pokémon is a 13 cp meltan because it always gets knocked out but it stays in for a while due to not losing motivation
i been testing this with my 50 umbreon last up to about 3 days 40 goodra last 2 days compered to my 1 day 40 slaking and it drain rate 1/3 . so yes motivation is what matters.
Uh oh my secret is out welp for my 10cp wurmple army
It’s good if it’s a gym no one touches for awhile or it will get taken Down fast. It’s also great todo everywhere if your not on Team Mystic 😏
you covered a scare factor but not an important one which is TIME. a gym with dead pokemon is easy and people dont care what the pokemon in gym as 1 quick round knock, but if most got health it will be left alone as takes time to knock it. like you said is someone wants to knock it doesnt matter but overall time to knock matters. low cp good a after day as still got health and chancy is great but you mentioned fighting to knock but you forgot to mention the other pokemon in gym and this goes back to TIME. most people want 1 round and go with recommended so chancy or bliss paired with something else like wobbuffet which also a good under 1k cp pokemon you will notice the recommended is not fighting to knock so if want quicker knock you need to change teams which takes time to change, people often don't change recommended and cant be bothered hanging around knocking gym. big cp only good if you watching and know someone going to knock as after a couple hrs its already useless but the 1k cp still got a few rounds. Basically those health bars the biggest factor not the pokemon as most consider the TIME to knock the gym
You forgot to add drive to a gym in the middle of nowhere and you will get gym defender guaranteed 👍
Drifblim also an insanely bulky defender + 3x resists fighting type moves!!!
Oh thx for this video I had forgotten this
i wish they would up the amount of pokecoins you can earn from gyms to 50 per gym per day, as opposed to the just 50 per day that it is now, it would really help those who can't always be putting their pokemon in gyms
I put stuff in gyms I want to feed
I often have 1000 1500 berries to feed so not only do I get the candy chance each Berry pays me 30 stardust.
Not to mention feeding builds gold quicker meaning extra items.
Ah now I finally know why I lose my motivation so fast... must have a high CP stat
This information I already knew. I don't put anything over 2k cp in gyms. 1500cp is the max I normally put in gyms.
I use Lucario to take down gyms. Best mon to use... has resists to fairy n psychic moves due to its metal/steel typing it has
Dude same bro lucario is amazing already have 777 battles won with him
I remember back then, when you couldn't take out that 3000 Vaporeon in the gym if you're pokemon were too low. The mechanics changed a lot 😅
I always just put in whatever i caught last.
recently, I've been putting very low cp pokemon in gyms (like around 300 cp) so then the opposite of the scare effect happens and people want to take my pokemon down
I wish they would finally let us use legendary Pokémon at gyms since it’s easy to take down a gym, plus in tired of seeing the same Pokémon at every gym
I think if you've reached level 50 you should be able to put legendary in gyms
They don't want to mix the Free-to-Play method with Pay-to-Win.
Not to mention, if someone wants to defeat your gym. They'll do it.
POKE DAXI PLZ REPLY I COUGHT A WILD SHUNDO KIRLIA HAT FOR THE FASHION WEEK EVENT
If you want to annoy your opponent, ditto is good at that.
i thought this was super common knowledge.
Also golden razz berries bring a defender back to full motivation!
The thing about putting chansey in a gym is its not really a challenge to beat. If you use a Passimian or a good fighting type then chansey isn't a problem
purified pokemon stay at higher motivation levels longer (purified pokemon have a lower decay rate)
