A very expensive excursion. We take the shortcut up Huntingdon's Ravine and climb straight up the cliff (free climb, no ropes). An unforgettable thrill and the view from atop Mt Washington encompasses the Atlantic and Montreal on clear days. Just bring a fur hat and gloves if you have them.
The Mount Washington Observatory on an icy winter day. It was here that a wind gust of 231 mph was measured on April 12, 1934. It remained the highest-ever anemometer-measured wind gust on Earth until an even higher gust was observed on Barrow Island, Australia, in 1996.
Driving your car up the mountain is expensive I never did the train up the mountain just by car but it was well worth the money. Too bad Mobleinstinct did not film the cool museum at the base of the mountain on the auto road
The first turnout or switch for the Mt. Washington Cog RR was designed by the owner-operator of the railroad while he was in Europe fighting in WWII. Prior to that the railroad only had the transfer table at the base station and operated all trains in a row. The turnouts had 9 separate pieces to move to facilitate changing the direction the train would go. We passed through Crawford Notch in November of 1982 on our way to Conway, NH for a T.R.A.I.N. Convention.
I took the Pikes Peak Cogway back in 1987. Since then, the track and all its part were taken out with all new track installed. Not sure about the passenger train
@@MobileInstinct2 It's worth the trip. Especially with the makeover completed. Remember that it's extremely cold at the top. Don't let warm weather at the bottom fool you. And you can see wildlife on the way up. Bring a camera for sure. Extinct volcanos are close by...
At the .31 second mark. That Looks like a Buffalo Springfield steam roller. Diesel powered ones are called road rollers. I got a live steam model of that in 1968 when I was 5. Large scale too. It burned solid fuel. it was called Old Smokey.
9:35 John deer marine engine! About 650HP on that loco. 600 on the first 5 diesels. 11:10 Wildcat Mountain Ski Area I work the cog in the summer and that ski area in the winter. Love my office views
231 mph ? Did I read that correctly ? Wow. That is one of THE coolest tourist attractions I have ever seen. There is so much history being preserved and celebrated. Well Done.

Other than your fantastic vlogs of all of your really neat trips, I gotta know what you do for a living to be having a great time and travel as you get to do!! You have the best videos!! Keep them coming!!
On a really clear day you can see the higher peaks of the Green mountains in Vermont and the high peaks region of the Adirondack to the west and to the east you can see the Atlantic Ocean
That moose hasn't moved in a 100 years 😁 The record wind speed was recorded as the anonometer broke away, so the actual wind speed may have been higher.
Hi Chris I follow I was wondering why do you post on two different channels? We love the videos and are hard pressed to come across one that have not yet seen keep up the great work and safe travels 👍!
I’ve taken the van ride up, I’ve driven up, I’ve hiked up, I proposed to my wife on top, yet, I still have not taken the Cog. It’s definitely on the list.
10 years ago I lived a few miles from Mount Washington for 2 years. Beautiful area when the sun is out, HA, which isnt very often. ha First time I went up the Cog Rail I was 8 years and I was petrified we were all going to crash and die. 🤣
11:17 Oh No! It’s my least favorite staircase in the world! 😱 😂 It may look easy now, but It was So Scary when I was last up there, it was shaking fiercely! 😮

I WAS THERE 57 YEARS AGO,LOL,,..THANK YOU CHRIS
Unbelievable, Chris! What a fantastic trip you're having. I should say "we" are having since you are good enough to take us with you! Thanks!
You should come down to the sw part of NH and do a video on Mt Monadnock , the 2nd most climbed mountain in the world.

Breathtaking video, Thanks Chris ❣
Very lovely tour and thanks for sharing this.❤😂🎉
Cool fact: Earlier this year, Mt. Washington set a record for the coldest wind chill in US history at 46.9 degrees below zero.
Nice but you can say something with the cool fact or fun fact thing. Thanks.

Thanks... lived in NH for over 50 years and never visited Mt. Washington!

Wow, you got a view, when I was there everything was clouded in.
Too cool! Thank you for your awesome content. Always interesting.
You’re Very Lucky to have such a clear view! Both times I was up there, it was low visibility! There was still snow on my Cog trip!
How cool! You got to see a moose! 🚂🫎
Really cool, thanks so much for sharing this amazing experience🚂
You had a beautiful day, hard to come by this summer. Thanks for sharing.
Glad to see you didn't miss the train back down again! I couldn't believe you walked back down! Thanks

Yes, it's hard to fathom that
The 231 mph wind gust was a world record for many years in 2010 in Australia broke the record at 253 mph
correction 1996 not 2010

Loved it. I have never seen a cog railway before. Looks way up there. Did you say the elevation? Thank you Chris.
Its the highest peak on the eastern side of the U.S. But not too high compared to the west. 6,288 ft
