- In today's video we head down to the Kipchoge Stadium here in Kenya for my first progression run, as i continue the return to running, following my femoral stress response. I go into a bit more detail as to how I've been able to maintain a good level of fitness throughout this injured period by using the elliptical and bike in the gym- monitoring my training load using the Coros training hub. If you enjoy todays video, please leave a like and consider subscribing for more running related content.

4:00 km pace god, I wish I can have the same pace for an easy run, you are a monster Ben 🤟
Thank you, No reason you too can't progress your easy run pace to these sort of paces. 4 years ago it would have been my all out 5k pace for perspective :)
haha , exactly what I was going to come up with
@@BenIsRunningwow that’s so inspiring to hear
Hi Ben, I always love to watch your videos and wish you all the best with your recovery. My son will be arriving on the 3rd of December and is really hoping to meet you. Enjoy your last days in that amazing place.
Fantastic news Ben, great to see you managed a track session before you head home. Looking forward to seeing you build towards the Spring marathon. Seville is an amazing city, loved the place and the marathon when I did it just before covid hit.
Thanks Ed, looking forward to it too! Looks like a very fast course!
So happy for you seeing you back running! Banger of a channel!
Thanks bud
Great video as always 👍, good to see you getting back to running👌👌
Thanks Sam
Criminey, Ben: You're bouncing back like a tennis ball! It's so awesome to see, and it's further proof that 1) you're hella strong, and 2) "trust the process" really is solid advice. Onward, brother!
Thanks Kim. Slowly but surely:)
At the end of the day, always listen to what your body is telling you... goodluck👍 and thanks for inspiring average runners like us
I appreciate that!
All the best on your return from injury Ben...
Thankyou
So glad your back running mate! You are a massive inspiration to me man!😎😎💝
I appreciate that! Keep at it
I got diagnosed with a fibula stress reaction yesterday, 10 weeks into a marathon block 😢 elliptical here I come. Great video mate.
Sorry to hear that, speedy recovery :)
Haha, 10k in under 45mins is my dream time 😂. Keep it up Ben, look after the leg and you’ll get there!
Thank you Nick, appreciate your support
"no pain" sounds good👌enjoy your last days in K
Thank you Simon :)
Welcome back to running Ben,some people recovery from injuries quicker than others,if played football and ran all my life I always recovered quickly from injuries and niggles, the only two people you listen to are yourself and your physio, all the best Ben.🏃🏃
Indeed, thanks Tommy :) Everyones entitled to there opinion and i appricate the all come from a good place.
Would love a video more on the Kenyan diet and also what they do for rest/recovery?
Noted :)
Nice one. V. interesting as usual. Wait until you are my age (74) you'll find all your runs are progressive! 6 decades of runningracing leave the ld legs a bit stiff to start off with and then things strat to flow a bit better. BTW did I miss where you explained the cause of your injury. That is essential to learn from and go forward, isn't it?
Thank you! I'm not sure i mentioned it here on youtube but ultimately an overuse injury. Too much intensity in a short period of time in my training as well as racing to frequently and not respecting recovery periods. Lessons learnt :)
BenRuns
Indeed he does!
your easy run, recovering from an injury, progressive finishing 3:50 / km? Really? you are amazing.. so fortunate (and well deserved) to be there in Kenya. Enjoy every minute of this trip.. Have you run Comrades Marathon?
Thank you and no I haven’t but maybe one day
Hi Ben, did you also incorporate strength trainings while you were injured?
Big fan Ben but personally I think you’re jumping the gun a bit mate, listen to what Callum was saying on the podcast. I think you may see this injury reoccurring
Appreciate your concerns but it has been 7 weeks now and been pain free for the last 5. I personally don't see it as a big risk and have taken all the rehab measures until this point with great caution. Returning from any injury brings a degree of risk but theres only so long you can sit on the sidelines. If my body is responding well, that's more than enough reassurance that I'm progressing at the right rate.
Can you link to the Callum podcast??
@@alexanders4911 it’s on Spotify, 17th November one around 52 minutes they talk about bens injury
Great video
How's your pain threshold I find it difficult to put a valve out of 10 for pain .how was the pain over the 48 hours
Current pain is 0, touch wood :)
@@BenIsRunning ohh that's brill response to the progression
A bit early return? Femur is high risk, its not tibia. I hope you will be ok, your channel is addictive
I know addiction is hard, you can get through this.🎉
The femur is actually considered a low risk due to the size of the bone unlike say a sacrum. Given my injury and symptoms personal to me, I'm confident I'm progressing things at the right rate as i return to running. Appreciate your concerns.
Nice video! What was the cause of the injury? Have you found out?
Its an overuse injury :)
@@BenIsRunning i guess its important to find ur personal miles per week limit. Usually its around 100 km per week (+/- x km) according to noakes (lore of running).
Have you heard of the general rule of increasing weekly mileage by no more than 10%.... that's on good legs not recovering from injury ..take it easy to avoid bigger setbacks
Thank you, I'm progressing things at the right rate for me personally. Appreciate your concerns.
Did you find that you totaled the same number of “hours” per week training with the XT - for example 1 hour easy run = 1 hour easy bike; 1 hour run interval session = 1 hour interval elliptical session??
Hi Lauren, great question. I actually have found that I needed to do a little more in terms of total hours to mimic a similar training load. On bike especially I find that for say an hour easy run I’d need to cycle for an hour and a half. The elliptical is almost a direct 1:1 radio however. That’s what I’ve found anyway over the last 6 weeks
Keep it low mileage and try to maximize other types of fitness!
That's what ive been doing, yes :)
For once i was faster than ben, ill take it as its his injured easy pace 😅chortle, get well soon.
Thanks Zak :)
Can we get some analysis on the accent you used to order your coffee despite speaking normal English? 😂
Ahaha, i didn't realise it was that bad until i heard it back :)
First
Cringe
@molochz why? I'm just showing my support and helping the algorithm by liking commenting and watching 👀 how is that cringe? 🤔 sorry if I offended you are your pronounce they/them by any chance?
@@fabsterun Leave a comment then.
A real comment.
@molochz that is a real comment also I did my best to make sure I was the first one
why are you running when ur injury is not 100% recovered? ur running definitely looked unbalanced. be patient brother
Recovering from a bone injury isn’t something that will necessarily be 100% for a number of months. I’ve taken the required time off and am now building things back gradually which is important to do in order to load the previously injured area.
