Usually I find the dysfunctional relationships on this show entertaining, but not this one. Mary's abuse is just off the charts and unhinged. It's not even fun to watch. It's just infuriating watching Branden getting mentally and emotionally abused by this psychotic woman.

You really need to understand Filipina's to understand this behavior. I'm not saying it's okay, just starting. Filipina's are incredibly insecure... especially when they're with foreigners. Brandon is like a 10 because he's white. Secondly, other Filipina's will with guys in front of their girlfriend (even in front of their boyfriend). Finally, even being kind to another woman can be considered flirting, and the rumor mill is prevalent and can bring shame to Mary's family. So, I think Brandon has to put his foot down, but this is just an exaggerated response to the way it is there.

She is gaslighting him. I was married to a woman like her. Whenever I saw something I didn’t like she would either go into a rage or cry like she was the victim. By seeing her cry I would automatically apologize. I later found out she was cheating in the marriage. So, I filed for divorce. I am in a much better place now. But I still suffer from some PTSD. Any woman who looks like her I refuse to date. I waisted 10 years of my life with this woman despite all the red flags. My advice is to always put yourself first. The minute you see a red flag run. Don’t waste your young adult life on a woman who adds no value to your life. Remember, a pretty face does not mean a pretty soul.

Been in therapy many years. It just doesn't go away so easily. The pressure of being normal is really high. I have a good partner but honestly sometimes Its easier to just push them away than hurt them. If Brandon is staying that's his responsibility. Her crying is about her own pain of being stuck. I still have panic attacks when I try to have healthier behaviors sometimes because it goes against my survival instincts. Most time I feel like sometimes my partner asking me to trust me that I'm not gonna get hurt feels like I'm holding a gun to my head. I don't know all about this TV shows. But certain traumatic experience really do a number on you. And everyone is different. I wish people would be more open to how different we all are. Not to say it excuses her behavior. But most people aren't evil. They just do what they can. I just hope the guy leaves

I think she knows what she can do and knows she needs to seek help but does not want to because this is third time she’s been called on in this show. They're (spoilers) already married and having a child together. And I feel so awful seeing it happen to him. Both of these people have been abused and lost trust in others- he is dealing with it mentally, but she never has and does not want to, that's the big difference. He doesn't value himself enough to leave and know that it's the best thing for both of them, and I'm so sad that it means he's now going to be dealing with her issues his whole life.

This part was not shown here. Mary had a panicked attack during the confrontation and needed to use an inhaler. She went through trauma when she was young. Not sure about her full story, but this is obviously not an excuse for her actions. Mary needs to heal before committing a relationship with anyone.

I don’t know if you’ve been through it yourself, but if you haven’t you will not relate to how absolutely devastating that is. If you can’t trust your own family OF COURSE it’s going to be the biggest hurdle in your life to finally trust someone. My heat breaks for her and I hope she gets therapy, she and her heart need it. Typical signs of BPD. This woman's fear of abandonment is through the roof and the only way this is "tackled" is by ensuring that everyone around her isn't going to leave, no matter what, and ensuring this will happen through controlling and abusive behaviours, more often than not. I know this too well. Therapy really does do wonders for BPD, and I hope she finds the help that she needs ASAP. It's really exhausting to live with such fears, together with everything else that this kind of diagnosis brings.

As someone who suffers from the same disorders, it can make life hell for the person suffering and everyone around them. Not excusing anything at all. I've done hard work and have participated in lots of therapy to help identify my triggers and not react so intensely because I saw how my behaviour was affecting those around me, and I myself was exhausted with how I was. I feel for them both. But I really feel for her. Having your parents leave at such a young age can fuck a person up, seemingly beyond repair. Brandon can't enable her, I agree - he needs to be compassionate while holding her accountable. Which I think he did, in this episode. I wish them luck.
I agree. My mother was orphaned by the age of 11 and none of her grown siblings claimed her so she went to an institution. The scars are real. But awareness is the first step, and Brandon's gentle firm assurances are great, very few young men would handle Mary's fears so kindly.

She is gaslighting him. I was married to a woman like her. Whenever I saw something I didn’t like she would either go into a rage or cry like she was the victim. By seeing her cry I would automatically apologize. I later found out she was cheating in the marriage. So, I filed for divorce. I am in a much better place now. But I still suffer from some PTSD. Any woman who looks like her I refuse to date. I waisted 10 years of my life with this woman despite all the red flags. My advice is to always put yourself first. The minute you see a red flag run. Don’t waste your young adult life on a woman who adds no value to your life. Remember, a pretty face does not mean a pretty soul.

Been in therapy many years. It just doesn't go away so easily. The pressure of being normal is really high. I have a good partner but honestly sometimes Its easier to just push them away than hurt them. If Brandon is staying that's his responsibility. Her crying is about her own pain of being stuck. I still have panic attacks when I try to have healthier behaviors sometimes because it goes against my survival instincts. Most time I feel like sometimes my partner asking me to trust me that I'm not gonna get hurt feels like I'm holding a gun to my head. I don't know all about this TV shows. But certain traumatic experience really do a number on you. And everyone is different. I wish people would be more open to how different we all are. Not to say it excuses her behavior. But most people aren't evil. They just do what they can. I just hope the guy leaves

I think she knows what she can do and knows she needs to seek help but does not want to because this is third time she’s been called on in this show. First by his mom, then her friends exposed her, and now. I don’t know. I just don’t have sympathy for her.

This hits so close to home. I used to be exactly like her. We can’t control our emotions but really self aware. I came from abandonment issues as a child too. I ended up getting help. Has helped a lot
They're (spoilers) already married and having a child together. And I feel so awful seeing it happen to him. Both of these people have been abused and lost trust in others- he is dealing with it mentally, but she never has and does not want to, that's the big difference. He doesn't value himself enough to leave and know that it's the best thing for both of them, and I'm so sad that it means he's now going to be dealing with her issues his whole life.

The church is really not the place to get into it with Mary about her controlling nature. Brandan has a lot of emotional intelligence and is smart for waiting until they were alone to have that convo.
This part was not shown here. Mary had a panicked attack during the confrontation and needed to use an inhaler. She went through trauma when she was young. Not sure about her full story, but this is obviously not an excuse for her actions. Mary needs to heal before committing a relationship with anyone.

Brandan knew what he was getting into before he left for the Philippines. She was already displaying her insecurities in an astonishing way. This is her responsibility to deal with, not Brandan's. He needs to lay down an ultimatum and say, you need therapy and I'm willing to be here and support you while you get treatment, but if you don't take care of this, I' going to have to leave. As someone that had my family abandon me 1:13 these tears aren’t faked. They aren’t exaggerated. I don’t know if you’ve been through it yourself, but if you haven’t you will not relate to how absolutely devastating that is. If you can’t trust your own family OF COURSE it’s going to be the biggest hurdle in your life to finally trust someone. My heat breaks for her and I hope she gets therapy, she and her heart need it. I don’t condone the way she treats Brandan at all no matter what. Also, Brandan is so gentle and genuine and patient with Mary because he know the feeling of abandonment as well. I hope the best for them and I sure hope they heal.

Typical signs of BPD. This woman's fear of abandonment is through the roof and the only way this is "tackled" is by ensuring that everyone around her isn't going to leave, no matter what, and ensuring this will happen through controlling and abusive behaviours, more often than not. I know this too well. Therapy really does do wonders for BPD, and I hope she finds the help that she needs ASAP. It's really exhausting to live with such fears, together with everything else that this kind of diagnosis brings.

I'd bet good money that Mary has extreme dependent personality disorder, mixed with abandonment issues. As someone who suffers from the same disorders, it can make life hell for the person suffering and everyone around them. Not excusing anything at all. I've done hard work and have participated in lots of therapy to help identify my triggers and not react so intensely because I saw how my behaviour was affecting those around me, and I myself was exhausted with how I was.
I feel for them both. But I really feel for her. Having your parents leave at such a young age can fuck a person up, seemingly beyond repair. Brandon can't enable her, I agree - he needs to be compassionate while holding her accountable. Which I think he did, in this episode. I wish them luck.
I agree. My mother was orphaned by the age of 11 and none of her grown siblings claimed her so she went to an institution. The scars are real. But awareness is the first step, and Brandon's gentle firm assurances are great, very few young men would handle Mary's fears so kindly.
