    My first introduction to the Rat Fink, was way back in 1968, when a classmate was drawing this grotesque rat-like creature on a piece of art paper. I had to inquire! I was filled in on all of the details.. and discovered the real meaning behind the Rat Fink character. Not everyone gets it. However... I did.. right away.
    Rat Fink was born into a culture of "Make do, or do without".... and... "One person's junk, is another person's treasure".... and he is perfectly fine with that! Rat Fink is just fine in his own environment.. He NOT preoccupied with appearance... He has learned to function alone.. as well as in a crowd, but prefers to doing his "own thing". If friends want to join.. they can... if they want. Rat Fink has the ability to entertain himself by working on "projects", which is making something for himself out of stuff that others have discarded. His goal is to shape the discarded items into something not only useful, but one-of-a-kind.
    Transportation is important! Why buy new, when you can create your own! The junkyard is a treasureland of items! Everything is there! So Rat Fink created his own transportation! He keeps busy.. and he enjoys what he does! He keeps busy creating.. making the unusual into transportation! He has a ball driving around... shifting gears! If it doesn't work... Back to the drawing board! Never a dull moment!!
    Today... Rat Fink Artists celebrate the culture that Ed Roth created, when he came up with this lovable green cartoon character.. and the world which Rat Fink referenced. We call this, "Creativity" and "Art". It's a world where folks can immerse themselves, and shut out the world around them for a little while. Anything is an artist's canvas!
    May the Spirit of Rat Fink, and his creator, Big Daddy (Ed) Roth, live on forever! May Trixy Roth and family, carry this tradition onward!!

    The screens are the collectibles. I can remember doing silk screening in high school back in the mid 1970s. Fun, fun, fun!

    That really is quite a show! Lots of interesting Rat Fink collectibles too! Thanks for including the Henry J...it's a little different from the one our family had! I wouldn't have been embarrassed driving the one at the show! :D Jack

      We keep seeing that Henry J at every car show.. Even at Hot August Nights in Reno Nevada! Dale and I were eating supper, offered at the Reunion, when a couple joins us at the table. We are having a real nice visit.. when we discover that they are the owners of that Henry J!! It was so cool to meet them! What a car!!

    • @ToyManTelevision
      @ToyManTelevision  6 років тому

      Henery J is fine but I’ve always been a Henery F guy!! My 3rd “car” was a 27 Model T pickup. Dumped that piece of crap 29 Buick to get it. Buick had a cone clutch and at 14 I had a problem with it. Was planning to take it to the DMV to take my drivers test if I ever hit 16!! Anyway sold it for 500 and bagged the T. Much more fun. So after I got a drivers license I bagged a 67 Mustang GT 289. White with green blue inside. Perhaps my most favorite car. And I’ve had a few. Missed it after I sold it (idiot) so I bagged the blue one. That calmed the disturbance in The Force.

      We do love the Rat. After growing up with Rat Fink, Karyn and I were amazed to suddenly be part of the Rat Fink family. When Ed married Ilean (Karyn's friend) suddenly there was this huge man, Ed Roth. Just there in the area. Hard to imagine. We both had an image of Ed, which was so far off, to meet him, the reaction was, no, just has the same name. Can't be THAT Ed Roth. Took a bit of time to get over him not being the person we thought he must be. We figure if Ed had not married Ilean, Karin and I would never have met as well, so we always say we were brought together by Rat Fink.

    Very entertaining, well done video and editing. Really brings me back - makes me look forward, too, to my own creative expression, even after a lifetime. I loved those models in the early 1960s. Never thought to save them, it was just a child's craft thingie.

    What an amazing reunion and car show! Dale and Karyn, you hang around the coolest people and artists. The spirit of classic hotrodding is alive and well, thank you, and no doubt due to the help of your little, scraggly, wiskered friend, Rat Fink!

      Toy Man Television Yeah, Dale, but I don't think I can make it there this year due to my big rig trucking schedule, which usually has me traveling in different parts of our country (sadly, not too often in SLC). If for some miracle I do make it, though, I'd sure like to look you up!!! That would be a blast. It would be great if you get your Mustang running by then so you could bring it to the convention!

    When I heard the words Von Dutch I couldn't help but say it in Ramone's voice from Cars. Great episode guys. Had no clue this place existed. Maybe I should come out there sometime. I'm a big fan of muscle cars. Especially cult classics. 67 Camaro or 69 Charger is by far my favorite.

    • @ToyManTelevision
      @ToyManTelevision  6 років тому +1

      FutureRail Productions oh that Von Dutch. The original A hole. But what a talent!! He was painting a guys ride and stuck his thumb in the paint on the tip of the hood. Rather than fix it he put a pinstripe around it to hide it. Worked. No one noticed the smudge. Next day people lined up to get stripped.

    I met Ilean and her son last year and they are just the nicest people. I've talked to Ed's son a couple of times and he is just a nice guy that doesn't have a mean bone in his body. I met Ilean once, and because I was so young pinstriper, she was so nice that she gave me some free R.F. merchandise. I wish I coulda met Ed. I look forward to seeing Ilean and her son again in about a month in KCMO.

    My Daddy had several cool cars when I was a kid back in the fifties, although I doubt they were considered cool then. My favorite was a black Henry J. The paint was wearing thin and had pink primer showing through in places. He pulled the engine and sold the car to a neighbor kid for a dollar then used the engine to power his sawmill.

    • @ToyManTelevision

    I really enjoyed you sharing your time at the Rat Fink Reunion...
    I'm looking at getting a Duce n a half to bob and fix up as an RV. I was thinking pink on pink camo for a paint scheme... I think it would be fun to bring it down to a car show like the Rat Fink Reunion. After all I grew up in the time of "Big Daddy" Roth and his side kick Rat Fink.
    Thanks again for bringing us along for the ride... It's a trip down memory lane for some of us.

    • @ToyManTelevision
      @ToyManTelevision  6 років тому

      Sounds like a project!!! Pink on pink? I'd go for rust on rust. Real rust!

    • @Femmpaws
      @Femmpaws 6 років тому

      Yes it's going to be a project for sure but worth it in the end I think. The pink on pink camo is from the paint scheme on the aircraft I'm building. It's Apple Blossom Pink and Pink Panther Pink in a camo pattern. Rust on rust has it's place. But after painting two early 80s Peterbuilt dump trucks at work, the painting is the easy part... it's the prep work that will be the time killer.
