  • The first week in June is always the Rat Fink Reunion in Manti Utah. A celebration of Rat Fink, Ed "Big Daddy" Roth and car show!! The 2016 Reunion was a gas.. The usual suspects, as well as many new Rats, Rides and Rouges. And ice cream. Fun in a rusty tin can.

Thanks for taking my mind off my troubles for awhile, with these great visions of the old days. Hard to believe that Rat Fink lives on into the new millennium!? Even got to show my gearhead middle son that later model 409 Impala...

We do LOVE Impala. I had a 59 in 69. Hated it. SURE LOVE TO GET IT BACK. At the time I wanted a Mustang. Bagged a 67 in 69. COOOOLLLL.

This was more then a tiny morsel of a reunion, this time. Enjoyed every bit of it. Living through the days of Rat Fink, back in the day, it reminded me of those, now, collectable models and how we would take a can of gold spray paint or what ever we had on hand and spray the completed models because we were also a couple of klutz's and got gluey fingerprints on the plastic, Some buds would really get into the total details and really did a great job. Great job, Toy Man.

I remember seeing Ed painting up a window on Main street Manti for a sandwich shop next to an Auto parts shop...I stopped and watched him for a bit across the street I just could not believe it was him there in that small Utah town my parents had moved to years ago . My parents had bought a home down near Main st on 3 rd North years before Ed Roth bought up at the other end of 3 rd north in his big home...The home and shop he gave me a tour of was his first home on the south end of town...His 2 nd home was north of that several block I would drive by there now and then a see him out back by his little shop/garage working on anything..one time is was a new design for a outhouse for the Forest Service..the man stayed busy....then the big yard and home on 3 rd north..

Hi. Yup he was up for most of anything. Loved painting signs. Did that at Knots Berry Farm for a couple of years before moving to Manti.

"A major award." "You'll shoot your eye out!" It was nice to see the "Bug eye" Sprite next to the Corvette. The first "T" bucket had a "Nail head". Don't see too many of those around these days unless it's Tommy Ivo's four-engine dragster. Great video!

Thanks for the info. on Ed "Big Daddy" Roth, I've often wondered what happened to him, I knew of him through my dad who was a pen striper back in the days when touring cars and Model A's had pen stripes.

Ah man, listening to you talk about Rat Fink really brought back my school days. I can remember drawing him covertly in class only to have it confiscated by the teacher moments as I neared perfection. HA!
Soooo many memories: CARtoon magazine, the great model kits, the 1 in. Rat Finks we carried around in our pockets and of course the cards.
When I learned of Big Daddy's passing I wrote his wife and shared just how much he meant to me as a kid and now, got a beautiful letter in return.,
Do you remember WEIRDOES? plastic figures about 6 in. high of just weird, goofy looking characters scuba diving, weight lifting, driving? I'm sure they derived from Big Daddy Roths original idea.
    Y'all take care.

In this weeks show, if you look close, in Garagemahall in the "loft" you will see ALL of the Weird oh models. As kits. And a bunch of Rat Finks too. LOVE THEM ALL!! BUt Finks are better I think.

RAT FINK FOR LIFE! Oh, I had some of those Tee shirts. I met Big Daddy at the Carst of Stars place in Buena Park, Ca. I walked in and there he was. I was wearing a Rat Fink shirt and he signed it. I wore it until the holes in it took up more space than the material. I built all the models too. Have I said RAT FINK FOR LIFE yet?

HI!! yes Ed was working at Knotts and one of the other guys there got the gig fixing up the cars at Cars of the Stars. So Ed started hanging out there too. They have a "museum" of Ed's signs he painted for Knotts there but not open to the public. Trying to get in... After that Ed joined the Mormon faith and moved to Manti Utah where we met him.

I believe that I sat across from you and Karen on a train from LA's Union Station to Denver. You and Karen were volunteering at the RR Museum in Golden... Karen gave me a sandwich on the train. BTW: I met Ed Roth several times throughout my life... brother was a hot rodder.

Wish I could have taken my Mysterion clone to that meet. Would like Ilene to see it in person. Alas, I have a day job that keeps me pretty busy (in the People's Republik of Kalifornia - a fair piece from Manti) and don't have an enclosed trailer to haul it around.

Okee dokee. Might be running by then. I hate starting new engines but running out of excuses for this one. Will try starting it this week end. Whole purpose for building the clone is to see it driving. Don't care what happens to it after that.

Worked with "Big Daddy" Ed Roth for several years in Buena Park, CA at the Cars of Stars Movie Auto Museum. Had an old 1963 Mercury Comet Tudor sedan. He cut the rear fins and lowered them and turned them horizontal, smoothed and tapered them into horizontal Rear Fins with the tail lights un modified. He Christened the High Gloss red car Gold Leafed "Komet - Kazi" outlined in black. Got a lot of tickets from the local constabulary. Even was sequestered at a mental health facility, due to the CA-HP officer thinking it said Kamikaze! Thought I was going to or wanted to contemplate, and or wanted to commit suicide. Do not recall what happened to the vehicle. It has been many, many years agp.

That was one of my favorite museums of all times. They had some great movie props there. Also the adjoining museum plains of fame which eventually moved to the orange county airport. But that was an absolutely fabulous museum. Yes Ed had some interesting history at that time, ultimately leading to his joining the Mormon church and leaving California.
