My family have very strong Nordic roots and are part of the very small demographic of Canadian Heathenry. We're hunters, homesteaders and beekeepers, I'm proud to make mead(honey wine) from a 170 year old family recipe. We celebrate the summer solstice every year with mushrooms, my wife was a bit nervous her first time haha. Heilung is music that speaks to my roots, I'm very glad you enjoyed it and have been exposed to our culture!❤
The coin she picks up? Is actually what inspires this song. Stories about protection and warding. As a changleing born under the eclipse she can reach through every moment of her life. Which is why you see her close her eyes and a different version of her opens their eyes. They also had other magical powers due to the auspiciousness of their birth.
Hi Jenna; It's nice that your path has also led you to Heilung. The name 'Heilung' means healing. And in some way, their music does just that to the soul of their listeners. Why should we roast you for your first impressions? Anoana was a powerful shaman who was born under the sign of the eclipse and possessed 'magical' powers. Even as a child, she sought her guardian spirit in the animal world, which she finally found in the aurochs. She met him again as an adult and reunited with him through this collision. These are as far as my knowledge of this song as a non Heilung expert. In any case, it is worthwhile to continue to follow this 'band'. Btw;these recordings were made in Norway.
Ooh shaman… that makes sense too. I did say guide so I feel like we had similar thoughts! I understood they were reuniting from when she was a child… I just wasn’t sure what the collision was about. Hmmm. Love these thoughts though! Thank you! 🤍
Also when one looks at the aurochs power was my first impression. So running toward the aurochs at the was for me Anoana coming into her full power. The baby, the girl, the adult woman are all Anoana in different stages of her life. The shaman women in white if the main female singer of the group and is basically tell the story or saga of Anoana based on runes on coins / medallions.
Tymdek, I have read some comments that Aurochs was not available, due to being extinct. The producer used a muskox for that reason. Power still shows from it. The preteen Aniana noddeed to the moose. She was shunned. That was not her spirit animal.
Maria's garb calls to mind the seiðkona or völva practising seiðr. There's some homework for you! Bear in mind that Heilung means healing. The trance like state that they create, especially in their live performances, which I've been blessed to be able to observe, is more like a ritual than a concert.
I got to see heilung in concert last September when they toured through my area, seeing them perform live is definitely an experience, the large set of drums they beat during the 2 hour concert had so much force, i was in the 26th row back and i felt it pound on my chest each time, i was honestly concerned that i was goung to have a heart palpation from it all. We walked out of the concert minds blown away, im not sure how a religious experience feels like, but ill say it was like that. One thing i like about the band is that during an interview the interviewer had asked a question about the fans of the band. I honestly dont remember what was asked, but the band members looked confused about their question and they replied that they dont have fans, they have brothers and sisters.
@@Angarato86That's what I'm anticipating! Seats in the 7th row nearly center stage. Once saw the Kodo drummers and every time the big drum was hit your chest would vibrate.
Heilung and their songs are profound. And don't feel sorry about your reference to BTVS! Timeless stories take many forms. To me the song describes aspects of growth, connection to ancestors and nature and spirits, and the cycle of life. Next ones from Heilung could be "Krigskaldr", "Norupo", and perhaps "Alfadhirhaiti". Also, check out another impactful band from northern Europe called Wardruna. Their song "Helvegen" performed together with Aurora is a wonderful (live). Cheers from Finland, from the eastern neighbour of them fine Scandinavian lands!
Heilung are outstanding. My take on the video is the baby is the girl, who grown to be the woman, who “merges” with the musk ox, completing her transition to becoming one with the natural forces around her. Note, this is my personal interpretation - I’ve not read anything from the band as to their intent. All the same, it’s magical stuff. For similar (but different) music, you should checkout Wardruna, as well as Eivor (especially her song Trollabundin).
Oh I like that interpretation! I definitely felt like there was something going on at the end, either a battle of power or merging of power back to the lands. Very cool. Thanks for the suggestions! Woo.
I have been getting into this band. Sometimes we all need to just take a step back from the modern world and embrace our primal side. For some of us it helps us to re-balance and recenter our inner being.
Towards the end, the little girl pets the big animal then climbs upon its back and takes a nap. Love your reaction cutie! 😊❤ They were banned from entering some countries because some of their instruments were painted with human blood or were human bones.
Pure goosebumps every time I hear this band. This song is so beautiful it kind of hurts. It's a special one even for a band as incredible at creating mood like Heilung. What a gift.
In their description boxes, Heilung usually talks about what the song is about. This one comes from texts and runes found on ancient coins and bracelets. As for the language, it is pre-viking era.
It’s not just a bit different, it’s more or less unique; I love their productions they’re just Primal! Great reaction! 🌹 In a similar vein there’s a band called The Hu, they’re Mongolian throat singers!
Great reaction. I have seen them live and it is amazing. They call their shows rituals and they are truly that. They open with one of the male singers, who is a shaman, performing a blessing of the performers before the start of the show. The whole ritual is deeply moving. They close the show with another blessing. Much of their music is inspired by pre viking northern germanic writings and artifacts. They make most of their instruments themselves and their outfits as well which are partly based on the "spiritual traditions of the Eurasian circumpolar peoples", or are historically correct reproductions of Nordic Bronze Age clothing. . I know Maria's dress is viking and her headdress is Siberian. From the band. "The lyrics for this piece are mainly taken from bracteates: golden, circular coins or amulets found in Northern Europe that date from the 4th to 7th centuries CE. They are often fitted with a decorated rim and loop, which indicates that they were meant to be worn and perhaps provide protection, fulfil wishes or for divination. The bracteates feature a very significant iconography influenced by Roman coinage. They were predominantly made from Roman gold, which was given to the North Germanic peoples as peace money. In Anoana, the listener has the chance to delve into a collection of likely encoded spells from the Migration Period and get a touch of magic from the Dark Ages. The intention of the piece is to playfully reconnect to an incantational language of a period where the North was richer in gold than any other region" They are singing in a reconstructed version of pre viking proto norse. Not sure if you noticed but the child is born under an eclipse (seen in background several times). According to previking beliefs children born under eclipses had very special gifts: hamnskifte (= the ability to change appearance), age shift, talking to animals, healing (ex; of the bird) and others. The sound she is making on the beach is similar to kulning and is old Scandinavian style used by farmwives to call home their cattle from the fields. The video could show Anoana from her special birth and the development of her gifts as she grows up until she finally merges with her spirit animal to reach her full potential or the video is showing Anoana shifting between being a child and adult and between being a human and a musk ox..
Heilung are fascinating! They try to reproduce how it _might_ have sounded like back in the day and are using instruments appropriate for the period. One peculiar thing regarding their instruments is that among the many different instruments they use, we find human bones used as a rhythm instrument. 😯 This has caused some problems when touring. Some of Heilung's songs aren't "just" songs, they could be considered actual incantations. The song "In Maidjan" literally invokes the gods Tyr and Wotan/Odin, for instance. Another similar music group worth checking out is Wardruna from Norway. There's something special about "tribal" music; it reaches into some half-forgotten part of myself, reminding me that in the larger context of things it wasn't all that long ago that my ancestors gathered around the fire to perform and listen to music that might have sounded a little, tiny bit like this. 🙂 Thanks for yet another great reaction!
I love where soul music has taken us. Different generations, different interpretations, still soul music. go down that rabbit hole Alice. enjoy. Hear with the Ear in the Middle of your Heart.
Great reaction! I think as with most of their songs the listener can interpret the song how they want as you can with most music. This one definitely envokes some emotions and creates deep thought to make up your own understanding of the song and visuals. I love Maria's voice and also found out the high pitch calling sound she does about half way through the video is inspired by a sheep herding call, fun fact.
It is called kulning. It was used by Swedish farmwives to call home their cattle and to also communicate across great distances. Some examples: Jonna Jinton ua-cam.com/video/KvtT3UyhibQ/v-deo.htmlsi=pEDG1Je785uKWEps ua-cam.com/video/nc7F_qv3eI8/v-deo.htmlsi=koy4sB_4iXGrTuZx Myrkur ua-cam.com/video/6l7ADnmDzCk/v-deo.htmlsi=RvnQMqfnL4XlfcCL
This one is rather styled but earthy. I like Heilung in Maidjan life with a beautifull solo of their vocalist Maria Franz from Denmark. She is in several collaborations the leadsinger. Very interesting artist!
Great reaction Jenna! Heilung is a very unique concept and group. I've seen some of their live performances on yt and they look really cool. I find their music (especially this song) very mesmerizing and calming.
Many of Heilungs songs are in many ways guided meditation, but North European in origin and based around some druidic rituals, The languages are a mox or Norse, Proto Norse, old Germanic and Proto Germanic, the transend normal boundaries into something that is more felt than heard, more like a pure stream of conscious emotion. Having taken part in similar rituals I can tell you they are in many ways faithful to the whole meaning of those rituals, they take you on unexpected journeys in your mind
Discovered this song with you, Jenna. I knew the band, it's frequently reacted to but quite not this song. The music is softer, here from what I knew. You picked a really good one for me! What I've heard from them was "too much": Too much tribal, too much apart, ... But this song reconcicliates me with heilung. It's really well balanced and the directing, the acting, the scenery in this video are absolutely beautiful ❤️
At the end. It's the Right of Passage. She has mastered nature and love. But, in that moment, with the new sunrise, and the new moon eclipse... She's more. It's the counterpoint to where she shook her antlers when she was eleven, and ignored. Because she wasn't a threat. As a grown woman... she is now a threat. And not only is she a threat, she faces it, full on. This is a glorious message.
Holy crap another Slayer association! Yes! I definitely got "How the Slayer was born" vibes. "Landawarriar Anoana"...Anoana is a warrior of the land. And little Anoana has gunfighter eyes.
The location of this is in the far North of Norway. It is a wild place where only the strong and wild may survive. Anoana is a Landawarijer (Land Warrior/ Guardian) The story is the start of the full saga of Anoana Landawerijer, from her birth in the dark of the sun, up to her merging with "The Force" of nature in adulthood. The Saga Of Anoana will continue.
The disc depicts an early Odin figure. The particular aspect of this variously named Odin. The Athilir... stanzas are strongly from an inscription on an easily translated pendant from pre- Viking times.
She (Maria Franz) gave an interview recently and said this is not the end of the story for Anoana, so stay tuned! More to come! Link to short interview: ua-cam.com/video/dlp_ksxQpbY/v-deo.html On you list should be Norupo and Krigsgaldr LIVE. Welcome to the Heilung rabbit hole!!
oh if you liked this, you need to check out Faun, Eluveitie and Wardruna. This whole scene is simply amazing. Then there is also Alien Weoponry from New Zealand.. a LOT heavier but also amazing. BTW Heilung means Healing... and it does the heal the song when you listen to this
Most of Heilung's performances (e.g: Futha, Lifa, Ofnir, etc.) are on my playlist, along with Yuja Wang, of course. ☺ They take me away for a while because none of Heilung's performance actually relate to anything in my normal life.
that medallion, coin thing she picked up ....... I found a necklace looks idential to it that i gave to a guy at work. He always has it with him . now im wondering if I shouldve kept it llol . The lady in makeup.....Maria, shes awesome. incredible range. Her stage presense is unmatched. as for the grown woman in this video, incredibly hot imo. Awesome video
I say primal hits it but goes deeper than that much deeper. Heilungs rituals stirs that very essence out from our blood, that power comes from the great mother, earth. Mothers calling her children back.
Here for this. Love these guys 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Their music is based on texts and runic inscriptions from Germanic peoples of the Bronze Age, Iron Age, and Viking Age. Heilung describe their music as "amplified history from early medieval northern Europe Another band that is similar is Wardruna. Aurora does a song with Wardruna called Helvegen that is really worth checking out 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
That silver pendant in the video was a form of currency that Rome used to trade with the Germanic tribes beyond their borders, and acted as a medium of exchange among those tribes. I like to think that its appearance suggests that, impelled by the messages of this shamaness, this tribe is going to migrate from the Baltic to the frontiers of an overstretched Roman Empire.
Shortly after the beginning of the video a solar eclipse can be seen, later a second one. According to the beliefs of ancient northern European peoples, such as the Germanic tribes, people born during a solar eclipse receive special abilities from Mother Nature (Ano Ana). They can control time, animals and death and become shamans like the girl here. The musk ox could be her totem or that of her tribe. I suspect that after the second eclipse she gave him back her gift from Ano Ana. maybe a new shaman was born
Anoana is a very powerful Shaman, born under an eclipse. Please note the antler buttons on the infant. The first we see her as a child, she is sitting in a Fairy Circle. IDK why she challenges the Musk Ox as an adult, but it's cool.
Landeavttir repeated through the chorus is Norse for one who is capable of scaring off humans. They were often wore animal heads and skins. Though considered to by many as warrior and evil they claimed to be the protectors of the earth.
Many people are confused by that final image, but it refers to the shamaness uniting with her spirit animal guide to ascend to the realm of the gods where she acts as a conduit between the divine realm and her tribe.
Anoana Translation Ashill's realm, power has been inherited; high power Riches are divided, over the land of fires Ashill's realm, power has been lost; ancestral lordship Riches are divided, over the land of fires
Powerful lands, over the land of fires The great land of power, over the land of fires Powerful lands, over the land of fires The great land of power, over the land of fires
On horseback, over the land of waters On horseback, over the seas Sun's ray, over the sky's cloud Sky's great light, over the Earth's expanse Heaven's high hall, raised on a hill God's abode, never to crumble
At night, a river flows A powerful day comes after night Sun's fiery wheel brighter than the stars All night, the day's light In the east the sun shines Before the day's end And at noon, in the west The sun sets down

I liked Wikis description. They describe their music as "amplified history from early medieval northern Europe". Definitely felt that vibe in the video.
The end is easily explained. Depending on the tribe they belonged to, shamans put an end to their lives so that their spirit and strength could pass to the next generation. From their point of view, this ensured that the trunk was always accompanied and protected by a strong shaman.
Heilung are quite different. Very tribal, primal. I've only heard a couple of their songs. If you like the viking, folk theme check out: Skald - "Run" Also really cool: The Hu "Song of Women" feat. Lizzy Hale of Halestorm... The Hu is Mogolian. Their band also has a very tribal, primal, war chant kinda vibe
I recommend you listen to "Heilung - Lifa" in its entirety. This group will hook you, especially if you have or can relate to Nordic and Germanic ancestry. A world that is nearly forgotten except for Viking lore from a time long gone. Never forget your origins. Heilung tries to keep you from forgetting, by pulling you into the old pagan lifestyle of the northern European iron age. Skôol.
koality please listen and react to Heilung Norupo offical video i think you would really enjoy that if you wish i can also recommend so of their live preformances as well
“Heilung” is the German word for healing, it contains the old word “heil”, which means something like luck, success! But it also applies in the context of “whole/complete” - if something is broken, you colloquially make it “heil” again (whole/complete - repair it) - in other words: "Heilung" (healing) restores the wholeness/completeness of the body/soul! It also appears in the German word for „holy“ (heilig)! But there are also opposite meanings - “Unheil” (bad luck, ruin, misfortune) or “heillos” (unsuccessful/hopeless/helpless)! The word “Heil” gained negative notoriety through Hitler and the Nazis, who used the term in the “Hitler salute” or as “Sieg Heil” - i.e. the invocation of a successful victory! Even today we still wish a hunter a successful hunt with a “Weidmanns Heil” or a fisherman a good catch with a “Petri Heil” (Petri is the abbreviation of Petrus, the patron saint of fishermen)! A small side note on the pronunciation of “Heilung”: In German, “ei” is like the English letter “i” or the word “eye”. In German, the letter “u” is pronounced like the “ou” in “you” - if you were to translate the English pronunciation of “you” into the German spelling, the result would be “ju”! The “H”, “l” and “ng” correspond to the one in the word “healing”! Phonetically something like: H eye l ou ng!

In regard to the end...do you see the little girl throughout the story. She is growing up and she is becoming "at one" with nature. You see her licking the dew from the leaf, much like one of the animals. The woman at the end is the child grown up. She runs at the ox...many people see it as a combative things...but try to look at it as them mashing together. Man (woman) and nature becoming one. ------ Do you see that? It's my interpretation, you are free to your own...but try to look at it through those eyes and it might make sense.

I just saw them live last month. Absolutely incredible. Have fun!!
I saw them live in March , they are amazing
Woo.
The music of Heilung has been a PROFOUND influence on my life and well being.
Finding and connecting with one's spirit animal.
It’s not just a bit different, it’s more or less unique; I love their productions they’re just Primal!
Great reaction! 🌹
In a similar vein there’s a band called The Hu, they’re Mongolian throat singers!
I agree that The Hu is a band that you should become acquainted with.
Oooh throat singing. I’ve heard that before so now I’m intrigued!! Thanks Darrell! 🎉
@@KoalityReactions there are two songs that are normally the introduction to their music; Yuve yuve yu and Wolf totem, both are really good!
The intention of the piece is to playfully reconnect to an incantational language of a period where the North was richer in gold than any other region"
They are singing in a reconstructed version of pre viking proto norse.
Thanks for yet another great reaction!
Try In Maidjan from the LIFA live at Castlefest concert.
The whole concert is epic.
I love where soul music has taken us. Different generations, different interpretations, still soul music. go down that rabbit hole Alice. enjoy. Hear with the Ear in the Middle of your Heart.
Glad you find the way to Heilung. Explore, explore! Especially the live shows!! I´m not sure but I think I´m kinda in love with Maria!
I am glad that you got to this and enjoyed it Heilung is awesome thier music is primal but speaks to the soul.
German through and through... to the bones!!!! This is how we are!!!!
Ooh cool! Sheep herding! Never would’ve known.
Definitely up for interpretation which is cool. Love that.
It is called kulning. It was used by Swedish farmwives to call home their cattle and to also communicate across great distances. Some examples:

So great you have discovered Heilung. Maria’s voice is in my ears every day as I walk the hills with my dog.
This one is rather styled but earthy. I like Heilung in Maidjan life with a beautifull solo of their vocalist Maria Franz from Denmark. She is in several collaborations the leadsinger. Very interesting artist!
Absolutely, probably my favorite.
Oh okay, thank you - I made a note! 🎉
Maria Franz is from Norway
Maria is from Norway, Kai from Germany, Christopher from Danmark.
Great reaction Jenna! Heilung is a very unique concept and group. I've seen some of their live performances on yt and they look really cool. I find their music (especially this song) very mesmerizing and calming.
Totally agree, it did have a calming feeling for me too. Rhythmic!
*gets the popcorn ready*
Had you seen this one?!
Yes I have, a handful of times since its release
I liked the part where you went "Yeah... that was... Yeah. I don't know...". Gave me a lot to think about.
Not Druidic but Shamanistic.
I waited all weekend for this video. Another first time and enjoyed. Thanks.
Awe!! So glad you enjoyed it too! And thanks for sticking around. 🎉🤍
@@KoalityReactions haha - was there a reason for me not sticking around?
i get this is your first foray into Heilung ....so welcome to the tribe
.. northern part of Norway - and its about a stong powerd macical woman who lived a long time ago.. called Anoana
As a real practising Pagan Heilung and Wardruna speaks to my soul.
You are not a real practicing pagan.
Maria Franz is INCREDIBLE
The video was made not far from where i live.
Correct, Stanley.
Lofoten peninsula.
I think the woods are someplace in France.
The disc depicts an early Odin figure. The particular aspect of this variously named Odin. The Athilir... stanzas are strongly from an inscription on an easily translated pendant from pre- Viking times.

On you list should be Norupo and Krigsgaldr LIVE.
Welcome to the Heilung rabbit hole!!
Ohhh thanks - will give that a watch.
oh if you liked this, you need to check out Faun, Eluveitie and Wardruna. This whole scene is simply amazing. Then there is also Alien Weoponry from New Zealand.. a LOT heavier but also amazing.
BTW Heilung means Healing... and it does the heal the song when you listen to this
you should check out their live performances, their Castlefest 2015 concert is up on youtube
Most of Heilung's performances (e.g: Futha, Lifa, Ofnir, etc.) are on my playlist, along with Yuja Wang, of course. ☺ They take me away for a while because none of Heilung's performance actually relate to anything in my normal life.
Did you notice that the newborn had antler nubs. The child and woman had increasingly mature antlers.
that medallion, coin thing she picked up .......
Tenet, Galgadr, Urbani, and Svanrand are a few of my favourites from them!
I say primal hits it but goes deeper than that much deeper. Heilungs rituals stirs that very essence out from our blood, that power comes from the great mother, earth. Mothers calling her children back.
Moin aus Schleswig-Holsteun, dem wahren NORDEN!
Once I discovered Heilung they quickly became one of my favourite bands ever
Here for this. Love these guys 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Their music is based on texts and runic inscriptions from Germanic peoples of the Bronze Age, Iron Age, and Viking Age. Heilung describe their music as "amplified history from early medieval northern Europe
Another band that is similar is Wardruna. Aurora does a song with Wardruna called Helvegen that is really worth checking out 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
I know! I read their description in my intro because I thought it was cool. Thanks for suggestion!
Wow, I love that! Thanks for this explanation! 🤍
I thought it was a merging of some kind, but it seemed a bit aggressive in nature so I wasn’t sure.

At night, a river flows
A powerful day

Sun's fiery wheel brighter than the stars
All night, the day's light

Before the day's end

I liked Wikis description. They describe their music as "amplified history from early medieval northern Europe". Definitely felt that vibe in the video.
You'll have to look within yourself to see what happened. You should react to "In Maidjjan" next, the live version from LIFA.
you havn't discovered eivor yet. right? falling free live at the old theater in tórshavn is a good song to fall in love with her
I 2nd, 3rd, and 4th this suggestion/request.
The end is easily explained. Depending on the tribe they belonged to, shamans put an end to their lives so that their spirit and strength could pass to the next generation. From their point of view, this ensured that the trunk was always accompanied and protected by a strong shaman.
Bravo putri Ariani the best seller di Amerika Serikat 🇮🇩🇲🇨🇮🇩🇮🇩🇲🇨🇮🇩🇮🇩❤❤❤❤❤❤
Heilung are quite different. Very tribal, primal. I've only heard a couple of their songs.
If you like the viking, folk theme check out: Skald - "Run"
Also really cool: The Hu "Song of Women" feat.

A small side note on the pronunciation of “Heilung”:
In German, “ei” is like the English letter “i” or the word “eye”.
That feeling?

Actually, I perfectly understood the reference to the first slayer. I wish I'd seen it first. All of Heilung's music makes me feel that way. You would probably enjoy other Heilung pieces performed live like "Krigsgaldr" where you can get a better look at how they produce this experience. It's all done with primitive, hand made, instruments and costumes. Here's a link: ua-cam.com/video/QRg_8NNPTD8/v-deo.html.

For my Daughter Heidi
In regard to the end...do you see the little girl throughout the story. She is growing up and she is becoming "at one" with nature. You see her licking the dew from the leaf, much like one of the animals. The woman at the end is the child grown up. She runs at the ox...many people see it as a combative things...but try to look at it as them mashing together. Man (woman) and nature becoming one. ------ Do you see that? It's my interpretation, you are free to your own...but try to look at it through those eyes and it might make sense.
