It is the reason I am watching. People like me the motor would have already fallen off, would have gotten that fixed, then the over heating would have destroyed the motor, then I probably would have went to jail from the harbor police. Some people have all the luck!

Don’t drag a muddy anchor on board instead lift the anchor and tie it of just below the surface of the water and set off. After a little while stop and if the mud has washed off you can bring it on board. ,love you two stay safe!

Only because that one guy in the boat yard had a fairly good understanding how to repair a fiberglass hole in the bottom of the hull. Otherwise it would have been setting on the bottom of the ICW months ago.

i have the same 55 pound thrust trolling motor from newport. its awesome.. used it like 7 times.its good for 200$ on the highest speed it will drain quicker, on speeds 1-3 it will last super long. i asked them how many amps it draws and this is what they said "Thank you for contacting Newport Vessels! Unfortunately, we can't give our the Amp draw at every speed, but we can assist with giving the amp draw at forward speed 3! The 55lb motor will draw 16A at forward speed 3.
i have a 75 AH battery so that will last me 4.6 hours non stop! which is allot! on speed 5 im guessing it would last me 1 hour and 30 mins nonstop. So on 1-2 it would probably last 6 + hours on non stop use.
    hope it helps

I’m trying real hard not to appear negative because y’all are young and still having fun. It appears that you are falling into that capricious trap of enjoying it until it breaks and then fix it. As I said previously, cover your patches with temporary paint so your fiberglass repairs can be truly addressed with a proper paint job at your own budget and discretion. Fix and address the reason for overheating on your motor immediately. Not doing so will lead to a severe motor failure that could require replacement. Perhaps a $.99 part or even just a straight out flush could do the job. Where’s the point in taking a needless risk? If your transom is cracking, it needs repair now! Something so simple as a Dremel clean out of the crack and a fill with Marine Tex can make for a solid fix. On the other hand, if the transom come apart, the boat is going to semi sink and the motor can go bye bye. I’d suspect that might ruin your trip. And, finally, if the straps or rope webbing on your trampoline is already coming apart now is the time to fix it. If we, in our seventies, can travel 1600 mile on a monohull sailboat which required repairs along the way, y’all can do it. If you wait until it all gangs up on you, it gets overwhelming. Just a thought but having fun can be better served over the long run by interspersing a little along the way TLC. 😁😁😁

Well put Bruce. A few repairs wouldn’t go astray.

I have an Intex Mariner 4 that I have a Minn Kota trolling motor on. I use to run the trolling motor with a full size deep cycle battery like you do. I got tired of lugging that thing around so I went down to Batteries Plus and purchased a DURACELL Deep Cycle battery; model number DURDC12-35J. Its less than half the size of a full size battery and I can fish all day long with it. It's never left me without power on the lake. One of the best things I ever did for my Mariner 4 raft!

Mud can clog some passageways. Is telltale still spitting a nice stream? You can hook up a hose with ears and flush the outboard. Most people do that frequently when in shallow waters or muddy runnoff.

    • @9to5less

    • @patrickm3534

Might need a new water pump impeller. It's been year's since I changed one and I'm not sure if they are still built like they used to be. If so it is a very easy thing to do. When the rubber gets bad the impeller blades collapse and don't pump water under speed. They usually do at idle though. See if it's spitting water at high speed. I used to change mine every two years if it needed it or not. Way easier and cheaper than having an engine overhauled. I've blown an engine due to a bad impeller. That engine could be getting a little tired. Maybe start saving, and budget for a nice replacement engine. I'd look for one with electric start and a charging system to charge all your other batteries while motoring.

    • @nicholasr7987

Nice looking catamaran. Here's a hint. Shorten your dinghy painter to the length that it CAN'T foul your prop if it falls in the water. If you leave it as long as it appears to be, it is guaranteed to foul your prop at some point. When it does, you will NOT be able to raise your motor to access the snarl around your prop. It WILL happen, and never at a good time.

Could you do a video on what you plan to fix and when ?
So far it’s half painted and needs quite a bit of work.
Good luck to you both, i am subscribed (my heart was in my mouth on your earlier videos)

Does that dingy come with a hand pump to pump out water ?
    I hope so.
Did you know, the fastest operator of a hand pump is the one that can’t swim ?
    Amazing isn’t it ?

since you are learning as you go. Be aware if you have a motor on it you need to register it or get a ticket.

Check your impellor, if it's overheating there is something wrong with your water-flow.....seems like a great wee engine would be a shame to cook it

You need your life jackets in the dingy and a throw able cushion. Please be safe!

Most likely you need a new impeller. The most common reason for engine damage. Hopefully yours is ok. Impellers should be replaced every two years. See UA-cam for instructions. It’s about two hours if you never done it before and about 45 minutes for a pro. Don’t use petroleum grease on Impeller, use only silicone grease. Don’t wait unless you want to buy a new engine.

Please invest in a 35 to 55 hp outboard, they're around. Keep the little one mounted for emergencies.

How are you guys going t charge the battery for the dingy? They make panels you can put on the roof of the Cat and charge it with sun..West Marine sells them....they are pretty cheap if you shop for them.

Subbed at vid 1. Loved the houseboat refit. This is one channel I’ll like the video before I watch it cause I know it’s going to be good. Also , what’s the model of that outboard?

You guys should invest in a small foldable trolley (cart) so you can strap all of your fuel/water containers and maybe a bag or 2 of shopping at the same time so your not having to lug all that weight around with you.

We have one and it works really well. Sometime we don’t use it on short trips though
