Put a couple outriggers for extra floatation and stability and you can even add a couple little water tanks in each. Make them detachable for easy transportation.
I was thinking outrigger pontoons, inflatible or not, would make it stable and if positined foreward might balance it better and allow a bigger motor or small electric an gas motors
For bending pvc and stuff like that that you dont want to collapse, fill it full of sand first with some caps on the end. Never crush a bent tube again.
You could add pvc pontoons off either side and racks on them with storage compartments sitting over them. Would make it more stable and somewhere too put the lobster traps or anything else out if the way
this is what i was thinking watching this, could even make them fold up/down and lock in place with a bolt or something so its not too wide when being stored
YOU NEED SOME DROP DOWN CATAMARAN STYLE SMALL PONTOONS... Here me out!! Get 2 mid sized boat bumpers. Fix them to a scissor arm that will lock it into place once lowered (something with a rope attached so you can pull on the locking mechanism to release it and pull it up to lock up for travel). Mount these say 2 feet from the stern of the boat. Now when you want to stand you just drop the bumpers, lock into place and viola, you have a stable boat. I would say make the arms 2 foot long which will give you an additional 4 feet of stabilization. This is only when you are anchored or free floating... I think it is worth the try, cant hurt. And when they are in the up position, it just looks like you have dock bumpers attached to the side of the boat. Rockstar!!!!!
Man I absolutely just loved this video and the fact that your a believer makes it even better. You have inspired me to start my channel I have a few projects and ideas I think I could share and just enjoy doing what I like to do !!
I watched the entire episode, I want that claw painting!!! Honestly watching you guys create the tiny boat is one of the most impressive and creative things I've seen in awhile. Great attention to detail 👍
For some reason i immediately thought of Pearl for the boat. Also love your videos. Me and my husband still watch your videos and re watch a lot of old ones. One day we literally binge watched a days worth of videos when i was pregnant. And was so worth it and enjoyed every minute 🥰😇
Mainer here, man with all the people I've met on Sebago or in the bay, would never take something like that out there. The elements don't scare me, the massholes and people with more money than sense do. Sold my 17ft sailboat and sticking to ponds and rivers with less traffic and drunks
Mr Fowler I absolutely love your channel, im so glad I found it. While il never own a boat for the ocean let alone on the lakes here in Michigan I do love the fact that I get to live vicariously live thru you. Thank you for what you do and what God has graced you with the ability to share with us. Thank you again.
Okay so there a couple ways that you could improve the stability of this boat... as i have been reading a couple outriggers would work out great and they wouldn't even have to be that big... take either 4 or even better 6 inch PVC and put a cap on the stern of it and then clamp the nose shut as you heat it and seal with PVC glue.... that way even if you leave them down they are hydro-dynamic and will cut through the water... the other option that you could do would be to add a dagger board similar to a dingy but put a large torpedo weight on it that way you can still use the flat bed trailer. with the added buoyancy of the outriggers (6 inchesx8feet gives you just shy of 100# (98#) of displacement per outrigger) you could easily add 100 or 150# of lead 4' below the boat that would dramatically improve stability and then also bring the larger Jakery power. also your stability increases the further out you put the outriggers so even if you only put them 3' out on each side you are adding 6' to your beam. which makes for a dramatically stabler platform. Please let me know if you like these ideas or the combination of ideas. would love to collaborate on design ideas.
Outstanding craftsmanship! I think you finally proved to all of us without a doubt, as some of us suspected, that you’re crazy! Love your adventures. Matt from Maine
Love your videos, a couple of tips, for catching mackerel one of the best bait is cut up mackerel!!! For catching squid you don't need squid jig, use your hayabusa sabiki, at the bottom of the rig use 3/4 or 1 ounce metal jig with treble hooks, drop down slowly and reel up slowly will net you a few, try it!!!
I’m watching the entire episode I want that fish painting. Another great episode. You’re a brave man for going out in that but you seem to grow with confidence the longer you stayed on it. Can’t wait for the next adventure
Name it the "S.S. Mini No-Tipsey. I love you Mr. Fowler. I watch all your vids all the way through! Best of wishes for your future endeavors. Be well brother. Much love from my family to yours.
1:30:20 the OFF active! orange can bug spray smells really good and doesn't have that stinging feeling and greasy residue, still has DEET and works well.
Something to help with the stability you might try is to put a hinge on the side of the boat with a float that you can lower in the water like a pontine. what do you think? Just a thought.
Yes they do grow back, usually each time they molt their any claw or leg that may have been eatin or have came off will most likely grow back and I don't believe it affects them much but I'm not a crab, so I hope this answers your question!
I was thinking the same thing. Seems way odd to me to just snap their claws off and throw them back. Even if they grow back how is the crab going to survive?
You should have extended floats out under your back deck like dual 5 gallon buckets with the airtight gamma lids or a standard lid with epoxy to seal them. It should provide enough floatation to allow you to stand out on it. Also a u bolt over your pvc windless just at the end of the split in the pipe so if you get into serious wind it won’t tear off the anchor line off the bow of the boat.
@downeastermanufacturing599 there's a technique I watched before where you can do it in such a way to avoid literally ripping the nerves, fibers etc such that it won't create an open wound that won't heal or become infected..
You could put a wired camera on the bow of the boat up top and run it to a mini LCD screen to the interior that way you don't have to stand up to steer. Plus it would allow you to drive around with boat closed up. I also agree with the others on the small foldable pontoons. It would make it a lot more stable.
If you have enough fretboard, you could put some ballast in the bilge and maybe get some more stability. If can run the engine sitting athwart instead on the port side, you see that you have more stability too. Nice job! That's why you need this shakedown cruise.
1:33:47 There's so much crab meat in the core of the crab, prob 4/5 times as much as in the claws... and I personally think the meat is sweeter than the leg meat as well.
If you added a weighted keel to the bottom of the boat it would probably be enough to keep it steady without taking to much away from the looks, the only thing is you’d lose shallow water capability.
I’m watching the entire episode! I’d like that fish painting! Good to see the tiny house boat has come together so good Zach, super looking forward to the next project. Ever thought about making a side by side ATV into a camper?
Fowler, I miss the slingshot videos that were just for fun. I learned alot from watching your videos and I'm sure there's more I could learn from you...will we see anymore in the future?
You could just attach some plastic buoys, tires, or barrels on the sides of the boat at sea level to help stabilize it. You could also add arms with pontoons of either side. They add extra storage as well. Just a thought!
A nice keel and some simple.ballast will see that little boat right, I'd also add anslide in / out transom board at the back so if it gets rough or at night you can slide it in, (in that back door space where your motor is) maybe just an extra foot or so high.
I watched the entire episode I want the claw painting. I like how you adjusted your plans for the larger trap then got smaller ones, at least now it works with both
Put a smaller 8 to 10 foot sit in style kayak on an out rigger. Put a cockpit cover on it. It will look like a kayak tied up along side and it would make a good emergency boat if needed. Just make a quick detach on it. Put it out the port side looks like you have a tendency to lean to that side especially while under way.
I normally fast forward through a lot of videos. Not sure if I get bored easily or what but, I watched this entire video and now I want to go on outdoor adventures.
Perhaps on your next boat build, you can mount a piece of PVC pipe that is on the inside, but goes out through the side of the boat, then down into the water, with a few holes in the bottom of the pipe at water level, this will be the pipe that you can relieve yourself when you have to take a tinkle. 😎👍
I think you’ve inspired at least 1 or 2 ppl to build one of their own (imo maybe just a tad larger). I like your boat, it’s simple but very nice and relaxing. Cheers to you.

Heat the tube a little while you're at it. Between the sand & the heat, It's pretty hard to mess up.
You could add pvc pontoons off either side and racks on them with storage compartments sitting over them. Would make it more stable and somewhere too put the lobster traps or anything else out if the way
I was looking for this comment! Add a tire or 2 it'll look like a tug boat!😂

I'm from Maine too. I completely agree with everything you said..... Although there's drunks on the lakes and ponds too.
Where I'm from I'd worry more about the lobster boats and animals being a danger.... Down east, up past bah habbah.
When in Maine, beware of Lorne Armstrong

I thought I was catching a boating flick and, ended up goin to culinary school and praying with you!! All good things!
You should really have a tiny inflatable life raft, it’s always smart to have one whenever you’re able to carry one on the ocean, in a vessel.
You got such great friends nobody talks about cheers to them 🎉 the team🎉
This is the best executed bad idea I've seen.
Ha ha ha.... well said.

"The Rocky BalBoat" is a name suggestion 😂
Perfect.
Thank you Zach for another full length video. As always, well done and entertaining.
Maybe you should add pontoons on either side to stablize the boat🤷
Why not good idear
I have watched this whole episode and I love this print.
You have helped me through so much in life with your videos thank you ❤
Add a couple of pontoon floats or side stability floats to this rig and you would be at ease.
I just came here to write the same thing! I agree!
Just a few or 6 inches out from the hull would help a lot.

Either add pontoons like everyone says or put ballast on the bottom, lead batteries or something. Extra power doesn’t hurt anyway.
Zach, my fiancé and I are watching the ENTIRE video! We’d love to see your artwork from Maine in our home!
This was so entertaining. That boat has so much potential !
Do the claws grow back why not just eat the whole thing... I don't understand why you would throw them back with no claws
