I have several that are 1.5+ years old of us exploring the cemetery when it isn't full of people (well, not full of living people, anyway.)

This looks like fun, but I feel like it's a new tourist thing? We never did "dia de los muertos" when I was growing up there. We used to visit the cemetery to pay our respects to our dead relatives, but there was no fair. I have several relatives buried there. Also, buñuelos were available in León all year round (LOVE them).

It is DEFINITELY not for tourists! There are literally zero tourists there. This is a traditional thing in Leon and the food is unique to the city and the day. It's only for Nicaraguans. First, Leon isn't a tourist city. Second, Nicaragua has almost no tourists generally. And this event takes place in a barrio that people are always warned not to go into (which is dumb, it's super safe) in a cemetery. I was the only non-Nica there and I'm far from being a tourist. Very likely there wasn't even a single tourist at the event all day. They don't advertise it or tell anyone. It's just word of mouth about when and where around the locals.
Buñuelos are available all year round, of course. But not THESE buñuelos. These are special ones. And the tamales are only available on that day. These are dessert tamales, not Nacatamales.
