- After a decade of wanting to go, we finally experienced the REAL DAY OF THE DEAD in Mexico!
This is one of the most beautiful celebrations in the world and such a great way to remember loved ones who have passed.
In this video, we take you to downtown zocalo to see the huge Mexico City parade that was made famous by James Bond and take a road trip to the heart of the Day of the Dead - Michoacan! We visit Morelia to see the beautiful zocalo and some dance celebrations before going to Patacuaro, the most famous destination for Dia Los Muertos, including a night in a cemetery!

👋We’re Matt & Karla, a Canadian couple with two totally different backgrounds.
Matt is the “quintessentially Canadian”, born under the northern lights in Northern Alberta with family all over the country, whereas Karla is originally from Mexico City, bringing a totally fresh perspective to a country she has fallen in love with.
Over the past 10 years, we have travelled to 42 countries spanning six continents, which has given us the expertise to plan amazing trips and find memorable experiences.
In 2017, we decided to explore our own massive backyard with Road to 150, a 150-day #roadtrip across #Canada, witnessing the beauty and diversity of this country and sharing our experiences through video, pictures, social media, and articles. Since then, we’ve helped thousands of Canadians and travellers worldwide make the most of every Canadian experience.
My wife and I have done the exact same trip for Dia de Los Muertos from Mexico City to Morelia and the surrounding towns. We also did the overnight tour to many of the towns. What a fantastic trip and very memorable. You captured the atmosphere very well. Thanks for the memory. Saludos!
Thanks, Bruce! It really blew us away. Such a lovely way to honour past family members
Yes, please.. More Mexico vlog. 🤗
We'll try!
My boyfriend is obsessed with Japanese culture. If we get our passports in time, we will be in Tokyo this November. Im obsessed with Mexican culture, and next year I hope I can visit Mexico!
Both sound amazing! We love Japan too
Both are such beautiful cultures!
What a nice Video.

Thank you very much
Beautiful country, festivals and people…thanks for taking us along!
Our pleasure!
Love your video's from Mexico...
Glad you liked them!
my family celebrates this tradition with our grandparents who were frequent travelers to mexico, they were even welcomed in by a mexican family, they would hook their airstream up and travel across the boarder to this families house and park their trailer, so naturally my granny would wear mexican dresses around her house, every nov 1 my mom my aunt, dad and uncle would go to their graves and put down flowers for them
That sounds awesome! What an experience
Awesome video will be showing this video to my class!
That's awesome. What class?
Very interesting tradition. Thx for the Mexican vacation.
You’re welcome. We’d certainly like to go back
There was no parade in Mexico city until James Bond 2015. The mayor decided to copy it
That was awesome!!! I love it!!!

The day of the dead in mexico . From Philippines here...
Awesome! We spent three weeks in Philippines in 2012
Thank you. You two did a really good film.
Thanks!
Hi Matt and Karla. Thank you for bringing us along for Festivities. I like watching "Coco". What was the Bond movie? Stay safe and keep the Adventures coming.
It was the movie "Spectre". Good one!
@@MustDoCanadaThank you.
wow, so nice
Hi, thank you for the video! I missed the day of the parade, if you can tell me, I would be pleased. I hope I can see this party, this year!
You should go to janiztio michoacan during this time of yea it’s so beautiful 🤗
Dia de Muertos!
I'm here after watching my favourite animated movie coco 😊
Which one is better? Lol jo. Coco is awesome. Make sure you watch the book of life too!
Thank you guys for the video! I'm planning to visit Mexico for el día de muertos and it was really helpful and interesting for me 😊
I would like to ask you, if you rent a car to visit the different places o do you recommend to go with the bus/Uber.
Hmm for the same area?
yes, same area. I'm thinking of staying in Morelia and visiting the nearby towns.
@@notdisturb We had a car so I think it works. Just be mindful that it can be quite busy and the highways quite full. The nice thing about a tour is not worrying about that stuff but the bad part is then you have to go where they go and might not have the time you want
Someone there also offered us a private taxi for an entire day but it was like $150-ish. Still might be the same as a car
@@MustDoCanada thank you!!
what date was this held in Mexico City?
Well, Day of the Dead is Nov 1-2, so it depends what days that falls on. This one was a few days before leading up to Day of the Dead.
@@MustDoCanada I read it was on the 22nd this year it will be held on the 23rd
@@jhb9254 perhaps yes. Mexico City does do it earlier as the more “spiritual” event is Nov 1-2
I grew up in Mexico and the day of that dead is not this parade like they did in the movies. Is a religious holiday and also a Native American tradition in Mexico mixed with Christian tradition
It's very similar to Vietnamese culture where we gather and eat when a beloved one has passed. The offering as well. We burn money for them to spend in the underworld. We also have an alter for our ancestor and burn incense and offer fruits.
very cool. Does the government like you burning money? lol
Visiting this year! Can you recommend which areas are safer to stay and walk at night?
in Mex City?
@@MustDoCanada yes. In Mex city during Dia de Los Muertos and i will be travelling solo.
@@nasdanrose4802 the most convenient places is probably downtown centro or reformas. A friend of ours stayed at a hostel near the main cathedral and its walking distance to the parade. There's also a Best Western hotel right in the main square
@@MustDoCanada ah great! I appreciate it
Beautiful video but i don't think due to the movie. The movie Coco shows only part of the tradition and the main purpose of the celebration is to honor the lovely memories of our family members 😍 and is more than a 100 years old. Thanks for sharing! 😃😃😃
The celebration is old. It’s the parade in mexico city that was inspired by the movie. It didn’t exist before.
What happens to the food offerings? Is it allowed to eat them afterwards, or is that disrespectful?
Not sure. Will need to ask. I'd imagine most of it just goes bad
We eat, all the dishes, fruits and drinks are our meals after "día de muertos" but... Trust me, there aren't flavor in them... Is like if their favor were steal, their "soul" has gone... If you know what I mean... They come to home.
From USA?
Canada and mexico
Who got this as vid as Spanish Homework, anyway I hope it’s good
haha what class?
Please dont forget the Michoacan forest is being deforested at an alarming rate, if u have a way to help the efforts of saving the fiorest, please help!
It doesn't surpise us. So much corruption sadly
What is non spa? What does she mean?
Not sure what you're referring to. Where?
Thank you for sharing. Great coverage! While this tradition is a touching sentiment for people to remember their loved ones who died, all who die remain asleep in death, unconscious to time and place, until called forth by Jesus Christ at the first or second resurrection (Ecclesiastes 9, John 5, Revelation 20).
That’s just your belief. No different than theirs. There’s no facts involved. Just beliefs.
All the food and people, where do you go to the toilet?
They have portable washrooms
what is keeping them from celebrating the day of the living?
You'll have to explain more as I'm not sure what you're talking about. There's lots of festivals throughout the year
You need to go out more.
You start the holiday in your country
✝️ Mexicans and Natives must convert to Christianity to be saved.
Lol, if you still believe in that nonsense, you need to be saved by education
aren't they catholic?
Hahaha
Stupid comment.
That kind of attitude has killed millions upon millions of people. It’s legitimately an evil mindset. No matter what religion is the one being pushed, it’s dirty
Saludos.
Yuck to celebrating the dead, sorry...and on that note, if one dies the soul goes to heaven or hell.
Well no, that's just what you believe in. I don't believe in that at all. But why not celebrate your loved ones. It's amazing
Yuck your comment.
Yuck your ignorance about this celebrate firts lear about culture!!!
My son’s birthday ❤Thank you for the information and knowledge!🫶
