Reading Mipha's diary just hurts. Imagine being so devoted to confessing your love to somebody and never getting the chance to because you got screwed over by a demonized pool of strawberry jam that can be onshotted with a single arrow.
Personally I think that they would get infinite five star reviews on tears of the kingdom if they just brought Mipha back to life the gameplay could suck and everyone would still give the game five stars

In the Japanese version, the mission descriptions are written in first person, mainly from links perspective. When hes talking about miphas, he tends to trail off and acknowledges that he is her loved one.
Revali being a jerk in the forest cutscene is hilarious as ever. As a side note, i love that Teba, the only Champion's successor from the future without a direct family connection to the Champions, spends the whole game discovering that the hero of the Rito was kind of an ass.
However, you can still tell that Revali and Teba respect each other. I think for Teba it was more of a humbling experience, learning that his hero was just as much a real person as anyone from his time. "I got to see the real face of the Champion" comes off to me as finding Revali as an equal rather than as a legendary hero. In other words, Teba and Revali are more alike, it's just that Teba has had time to settle down while Revali is still young and has more to learn, as both a person and as a warrior.
@@quantumprodigy9009 IIRC it's kind of a joke in game about how much Link eats and WHAT he can/will eat. In a way you could almost see it as his champion power, along side his time slowing power.

I like how Daruk instantly gets whats going on with mipha and link and acts as a wingman (or rather a rockman) for Mipha, also are we sure Mipha didn’t propose to link? We don’t see the end of their “conversation” in Mipha’s Touch, the armor itself is measured exactly to link so it would be hard for mipha to measure him unless he knew about it and we only get the cutscene when we have the armor while staring at Mipha’s statue.

@@Zeldom actually, there are easily missable parts of botw where link shows expression, like the when lasli tells him that he’s “totally my type”. Link actually reacts with a bashful grin. Also, when Sidon greets Link at Zora’s domain, he grins and waves- he’s a bit far away, though, so you barely see it happen
Honestly, by the time you got to Mipha, I could care less who he was in love with, as I was far more fascinated by all the stuff you dug up about Link’s burden with being the destined hero, and becoming stoic and selectively mute in trying to bottle that stuff up. I never even knew these diary entries you referenced existed. Amazing stuff.
Pretty sure the champion diaries are from the DLC but zeldas diary is near one of the memories (the one in hyrule castle) it’s in a tower on the west side
In AoC the Japanese phrasing of Links thoughts on the Zora armour parallels the Japanese phrasing of Miphas thoughts in her diary on her proposal. ‘Is it alright to accept this?’ and ‘Is it alright to give this?’. To me this indicates that the two are on the same wavelength, wanting to be with each other but ironically insecure as to whether they should or can be.

A point for Prince Sidon: Link has amnesia when he enters Zora’s domain and doesn’t initially remember Mipha at all. Instead he meets Sidon who’s so happy to see him and instantly latches onto him. It must have been odd and intimidating when he first met Doraphon and everyone was telling him how he was meant for Mipha, who at that stage he doesn’t remember. It must have been an emotional time visiting Zora’s domain, and Sidon’s unfailing belief in Link must have been a comfort.

I love that moment when link pulls the master sword in AoC and just glares at Astor Like he may be silent but "try that again ***** I dare you" was fully conveyed
I really think the only trouble that stopped miphlink in BOTW was Mipha's death, as we know Link spent too much time with Zelda but that was mostly for his duty to protect her. Although, we know Link didn't have much free times but every time he had the chance he tried to visit Mipha voluntarilly, despite the times they had together was only few, those moments were special like the one where Link saved Mipha from a lynel and also not all Link's visits were mentioned at all like the ones about Kodah and others. Even Sidon conffesses that he was jealous of Link because he thought Link wanted to steal her sister and another zora says something similar that sometimes it appeared that Link wanted to steal Mipha, I still wonder how Mipha got the exact measurements of Link, in addition from the DLC, Mipha asks Link if he remembers what happened between them 100 years ago following by the question about if he knows why that zora armour fits him so perfectly, then she says there are a lot of things she wants him to remember but sadly those memories are gone of his mind, so I think they could easily be a couple before calamity. There are more details I can mention but I'm very sure that Link would accepted Mipha's proposal if she didn't died and now he barely remembers her. She was about to propose to Link after the calamity and I'm very sure they could be together as a couple if it wasn't by Ganon's fault..
I agree for the most part. Link and Mipha were still good friends in botw before she died, but I think the events led Link to grow away from Mipha while she was trying to hold on to him. It's truly sad, but I think Age of Calamity reverses that and made MiLink very likely.
@@Zeldom I like to think MiLink got together in aoc timeline and Zelink got together botw time. it makes perfect sense. I also think both Mipha and Zelda deserve to have a chance with the one they have sacrificed pretty much everything for.
@@GuyIllusionMusic Zelink in both timelines. The relationship between Mipha and Link was too underdeveloped in AoC and Zelink has way more development in AoC than MiLink. @@undeadhoundoom3263 Mipha is more like a humanoid with fish traits. Honestly after seeing Sonic (an antropomorfic hedgehog whose head as big as his body) getting into a romance with a human girl, Link falling in love with Mipha doesn't seem weird at all.
@@undeadhoundoom3263 aoc development for Milink is the same from botw. Childhood friends, then obvious feelings. Both ships are strengthened by the aoc timeline changes. With Link being more open and not as silent, as well as Zelda being more open and not so jealous. Narrative development doesn't change what we already know however, Zelink can easily be platonic in both timelines. And Mipha has no reason not to propose to Link in aoc timeline. She was planning on doing it after the group visited the spring of wisdom, the day of calamity and zelda's birthday in botw timeline. Mipha most definitely would have proposed thanks to her survival in aoc timeline. Why would Link say no? Mipha is a childhood friend he deeply cares for that he will take any chance he can off duty to spend time with. Just for a romance with the princess that develops over a few months comparatively in a narrative about her unlocking her power which is triggered by love and care... why? It also makes Zelda look selfish and full of herself if you think she would get between them when Mipha just got there first. True love doesn't steal, it earns. There are plenty of fish in the sea and Zelink can be platonic just fine as well as Milink. No pun intended since you think liking fish people is so weird, even though the idea of mermaids have been existing forever. Zelink has worked countless times platonically with just as much power and success defeating ganon before. There is nothing that suggests their love and care has to be romantic in order for their power to be just as strong. I'm a major Zelink shipper. But c'mon, Mipha clearly put all her heart into into Link and sacrificed everything for him. And Link clearly cares for her. It's just a matter of fact that in aoc timeline Mipha would have gotten to him first with a sweet engagement. It would be a pretty sour if he just turned her down after them all almost getting killed and losing everything. Though if you want to believe Zelink simply has more chemistry and Link just has fallen in love with Zelda so much he just couldn't marry Mipha, so be it. I just don't see why their has to be a competition on Links heart like there "has" to be in the real world. People can love multiple people at once without it leading to cheating and complications. Link clearly loves both women and has the right to choose of course, but when you love two people, naturally your bound to pick the one who calls first unless polyamory is involved. .... Also how you got Undyne from Mipha is beyond me. The only thing they even have in common is they are both fish people and care a lot about the ones they love, those traits don't make people copies of each other.
I dunno why, but Riju just seems like a perfect little sister. As an only child, I have never truly gotten to experience a relationship with someone similar to that which siblings share, but Riju gives me an idea.
my theory is that link actually spent a lot of time in zora's domain with mipha between like 4-10 years old and then just stopped going for reasons (probably because he went to the junior knight academy or something like that - considering that he's like seventeen in BotW and he already had a lot of sword experience, i wouldn't be surprised if they started this early) and he didn't saw mipha until he was like 15 also that would explain his more serious personality after growing up, he's been in the military since he was around 10 and there is a lot of pressure around it so he probably changed because of it
I remember playing the game and reading Mipha's diary, seeing that she was going to propose then later the calamity killed her and she never had the chance made me cry.
There's also a mission in Age of Calamity where it requires Mipha, it's called Heart's Escort where one of the First Clear Rewards is the Armor that Mipha made for Link. I see this mission as Mipha finally giving Link his Armor she made for her. I prefer Mipha-X-Link in Age of Calamity but Link-X-Zelda is probably the best bet for Breath of the Wild.
That's true. Like I said in other comments I doubt the side quests and missions are actually part of the story. There's 2 messages on the loading screens that lead me to think that only the main story is canon.
@@Zeldom Not even the loading screens. The game tells you that the battlefields are from other worlds, which is why you get the ethereal stones from them.

Legend of Zelink: Breath of the Waifu - Ship of Calamity. In a massive plot twist, the entire calamity was a massive plot to get Zelda and Link together.
My heart wishes there was extra dialogue between Mipha and Link if he was wearing the armor after her spirit was free 🥺 something like, “I’m glad the armor fits, the time was worth it. I’m glad we can spend time even if it’s in this way.”
One of my favorite things that you didn't mention was in the last cutscene for The Champions Ballad, where they're taking the picture. If you look at Mipha you can see her slowly scooching her way over to Link, in an attempt to get closer to him.
They are so cute I love them! I’m also a Mipha and Link shipper because omg mipha loved him so much and link clearly thought she was pretty and probably had feelings for her too
41:02 that's my favorite cutscene in Age of calamity, Zelda is getting attacked, Teriko tries to save her and link just YEETS Teriko away. Absolutely hilarious
I absolutely hate that people write off Mipha and Link because Mipha will outlive him” a lot of marriages end like that. You aren’t expected to die with your partner. UNTIL DEATH DO US PART
As you said, Mipha dying was as definite as it can be. Before her death there's enough evidence to ship them, but alas her death is permanent in that timeline. I agree with all of that. However, I also think that part of what makes TLoZ so great is leaving plenty of space for people to fill gaps. For example using those alternative sidequests as "windows" to AU's, or figuring out actions that the characters probably did as narrated by NPC's (such as Sidon telling Link he stole Mipha). Great analysis. I do agree with you: No calamity = Link x Mipha. Calamity happened and so Mipha died= Link x Zelda. I do prefer Milink, but I prefer TLoZ style and leave the choice up to us. Love your content!
@@Zeldom By the way! there is something very important that I think basically confirms everything you say. In the book "creating a champion" the developers of BoTW explicitly say that Mipha's relationship with Link started to become so intense, they made her shy and quiet. They needed to tone her down a lot in order to balance things out. That fits perfectly with what you said about Mipha being too passive... it was on purpose. Mipha with the personality of Ruto would have make the ship with Link almost inevitable. And we know the big N doesn't like that on TLoZ. Which, to be honest, I'm glad they did. It makes Mipha more interesting
@@ernestoosuna4594 I actually came across that recently while reading through the book, but I don't know why that didn't click for me. Thanks for pointing that out!
@@Zeldom All in all, even though I am a big Miphlink fan, I do prefer how things turned out in BoTW (well, I don't like Mipha's death, but that's what it is). Link's tragic life and his duties pushes him forward. He eventually remembers a big deal about her, but unfortunately forgot probably the most important "details" as she mentions in a dialogue. A childhood-lifetime friends that Link loses, is a trope present in TLoZ in the past... and it is normally important for Link's development. That was the case here too and I really enjoyed how they crafted their relationship. And of course, thanks for AoC where Mipha is alive and that relationship isn't impossible, so my headcannon stays the same haha
Yeah a second meaning I've seen and that makes a lot of sense is that hope. In Age of Calamity there's that quick shot I mentioned of the flower right before they go back to seal the calamity. That sudden blossoming could be a symbol foreshadowing their victory and that the people of Hyrule have united together to bring enough hope to conquer the calamity
maybe it's a sign of percistance? it may be an endangered species but it's held off extinction for who knows how long and maybe the sign of love is a symbol for your persistence for your desire to be with someone coming through.
This theory is pretty weak, let's be honest. Just because TP Link was a farmer, doesn't mean that Malon was his maternal descendant as he's the only Hylian in Ordon. Either TP Link was adopted or his parents moved to Ordon prior to having him, but sadly perished when he was young.
Is it just me or is “silent princess” describing the bond in Link and Zelda? Silent would refer to Link and how he never speaks, and princess referring to Zelda
Mipha's story is so sad, at least in Breath of the Wild. I feel like it's more likely that Link ends up with Zelda (I mean Mipha is dead after all) but I would have loved to see Link with Mipha. Hopefully we get to see more of both ZeLink and MeLink in the Breath of the Wild sequel.
It really is a shame with Mipha. I feel like she's actually a great fit. She has genuine love and concern for him, and was willing to put him first. I get Zelda does the same thing, but it was after being forced together and shipped by a mutual friend. Mipha and Link are honestly such a tragic love.
I can't get behind Mipha because the game makes it clear she was an adult while Link was a kid and watched him grow up and helped care for him when he was a kid. and that's at best accidental grooming.
Yeah, I read that in Creating a Champion a couple days before this went live... oh well. To be fair though the only source that claims this is a quote from one of the artists in the book. Wasn't even a lead artist. Developer intent doesn't mean something else can't pertain to the lore and the fact that only a single artist said she's 12 makes it possible that can vary, though it does make alot of sense. In that case they would have to be much older for Riju and Link to get together
I'm late, but before finishing the video this is my thoughts: I have always loved Mipha, I found her to be a sweetheart and an incredibly selfless character. I think that if time did play out naturally she and Link would have been a lovely couple. However, since she died, I believe Mipha and Link would have both have had time to heal from the loss, and she would want him to be happy. I believe Link and Zelda end up together and love each other dearly, but Link never forgets his dear friend and first love, as well as Zelda missing her too. Mipha was very close to the both of them. I ship ZeLink in the manner that does not disrespect their late friend, but honors her memory while they remain happy. I like to think that, just like during her monologue, Mipha looks down upon them and feels joy, having had all that time to heal and come to terms I say this because a lot of times I've seen people interpret it as a Mipha vs Zelda competition for not just Link's love but his respect. And I really think it doesn't mean one or the other necessarily. God, I love these characters.
I know! They are all so beautifully written. Also, i completely agree. I think Link and Zelda will end up together but will always have guilt for the loss of their loved ones.
Thank you!!! yes!!! Im a HUGE botw/totk zelink shipper myself, but there's no denying that Link cared deeply for both of them. I don't see why it has to mean one way or the other. Since Link's relationship with both of the girls are so valid in their own ways, not to mention that it's definitely not a case of Zelda vs Mipha, since they are both friends too.
Entering the Zora domain for the first time after awakening and remembering all that once was always struck me as sad. It must have been heartbreaking for Link.
what if link decided not to speak to mipha about his problem because he cared for her and didnt want to involve her in it because he didnt want her to worry
I feel like Link loves Mipha in Aoc because like you said in the Zora's domain mission, instead of staying with Zelda while talking with king Dorephan, he is with Mipha, in NBC's video when the calamity strikes and they are all in danger link wants to stay and help fight with the king instead of getting Zelda away from the castle but the king has to remind link of his duty to protect Zelda and tells them to run, and for the hearts escort mission can be interpreted from multiple perspectives, his initial hesitation can be because he knows how Zelda feels about him but he really cares about Mipha more.
I don't like to include the heart's escort mission since I doubt any of those side missions are actually part of canon. I'm pretty sure just the main story is canon
I agree whole heartedly, plus in botw I noticed that unlike with the other memories he sees, links chosen memory of Mipha was one where they were together with her healing him and him, looking into her eyes as she surges that they spend some time together (quite a romantic scene) when it's all over, rather than talking about the war like the other characters, she talks about him, and it's all triggered, not by seeing an object or a place where the memory happened, but just by seeing her face in the form of her statue, and when the zora king, or Sidon, or even Mazu talks about his possible love or marriage to mipha, he makes no effort (in hand gestures or otherwise) to correct them of this. Plus when it comes to Zelda and Link I really don't see it, yes they clearly have a unique bond, but I more see that as the type of bond long lost siblings have when they reconnect again, which makes sence as their destiny's are so similar and they are both reincarnations of two people who have been closed throughout history. Not to mention the fact that they look so similar in appearance (in most reincarnations) that they could practically be twins. Seriously its kind of creepy Probibly another reason I don't ship Zelink? Or Linda?...😂Linda!!! 😂 How's that for a ship name
One thing in Aoc that may hint at Link and Mipha getting together is that the second phase of the final boss theme is pretty much a rearrangement of Mipha's theme.
My first Zelda was windwaker when I play it in my dads GameCube ages ago Such a good game I quite like the design of toon link, too bad he’s the worst link in smash so I Main Young Link instead, though I did spend hours learning bomb combos for adult link to realise he was slow and I preferred young Link
@@thelastpagan4999 Oh hell, naw. The last time we had a new Ganondorf, we got Four Swords Adventures. Not even Breath of the Wild knows what to do with Four Swords Adventures on the timeline. Hell, Four Swords Adventures probably comes after Breath of the Wild.
Way I see it, Mipha was the bigger contender for Link's heart in both games, especially given how much time is implied that Link spent in Zora's Domain, however upon the death of Mipha and through all the shared trauma Link and Zelda get put through, in addition to both being some of the only eligible single people that remember the Hyrule before Ganon and inside each other's visible age bracket/species and size then they're without a question going to be a match. That being said had Mipha survived then she'd be Links biggest match. Basically Zelink is canon over Miphas dead body.
Supposedly Riju is "around" 12. I had the sense she gets a crush on Link, which isn't that strange considering he is probably the only young man she has ever met apart from her father. That and Link is a legendary hero.
28:56 the Music for Divine beat Vah Ruta actually unlike it's other counter parts gets more ominous as the dungeon goes on. potentially symbolizing Mipha's anxiety that Link might be Killed by water blight, just like she was. or maybe anticipating link's reaction to her death. I'm pretty sure anyone dead would want to see the reaction of something they loved to their death. lol imagine if they didn't care about the dead person how heart breaking that'd be.
For the BotW one. I think it's a case that Mipha and Link were friends and there was affection there, but Link ended up distancing himself from Mipha. He still sees her as a friend, but he's too wrapped up in his own stuff to see her as more than that. For Zelda, she somehow slipped past his guard as he saw her as a kindred spirit. But I definitely agree with you for the Warriers timeline. It's interesting to see how people change and the relationships we might take if a few things change.
I agree with you saying Zelda for Breath of the Wild and Mipha for Age of Calamity. Zelda was much closer with Link in Breath of the Wild due to bonding over the burdens that they both have been carrying for years, which was not present in Age of Calamity and it's why they don't feel quite as close in that game. Sure they're friends but I don't think their relationship could go beyond that in Age of Calamity without the development they had in Breath of the Wild. As you said, Link is more attentive of Mipha in Age of Calamity and Mipha's dialogues in missions with Link have more of a romantic tone compared to Zelda's. Another reason on why I say Mipha for Age of Calamity are Sidon and King Dorephan's respective dialogues to Link in Breath of the Wild: "Had things turned out differently, you might have been my sister's husband...my brother-in-law..." - Sidon "A Zora princess falling in love with a Hylian swordsman... It reminds me of a Zora legend of old. That is why I welcomed the idea of you and Mipha becoming husband and wife. It is a shame you two never had the chance to see what might have been..." - King Dorephan Maybe it's just me wanting Link and Mipha to be a thing in Age of Calamity since it couldn't happen in Breath of the Wild due to her death. Sidon and King Dorephan would also be happy to have Link be part of the family and Mipha deserves a happy ending.
I couldn't agree more. I wish I remembered about that quote from Dorephan. I totally would have included that since he makes it sound like he believes Link had some degree of romantic interest in Mipha as well and that he may have accepted in Botw.
@@Zeldom i think Link would of accepted Mipha if it wasn't with the fact he lost most memories of their time growing up togeather and the fact she had died when they found each other again.
What about the memory in botw where Zelda is entrusting the master sword to the great deku tree? If the great deku tree didn't cut off her message to Link, I'm confident she would have said something like "tell Link I love him".
I like to think Link x Mipha is a thing in Age of Calamity specifically because it's not in Breath of the Wild. I mean it's only fair, Zelda shouldn't have Link in *both* timelines. Also I just want a timeline where Link & Sidon are brothers.
I’ve been waiting for part 2 of this for so long, and it did not disappoint! I’m a full supporter of MiLink, but I agree with your belief that it wouldn’t work in BoTW. The thing is, Riju, Zelda and Mipha are the only actual ships. The rest of them were all just for the meme. You did so well on this, and I can’t wait for part 3!
Thanks I'm glad you liked it! I'll make sure it's not another 4 months until the next. Plus the others will be shorter since I won't be jamming them into one video. Paya is also a legit one. I didn't know until afterwards that Riju is 'supposed' to be 12 from Creating a Champion/Masterworks. It is important to keep in mind that the quote was from one of the artists, not even the lead character designer so whether that is accurate in the lore is debatable.
A good point for you did you know that when you complete Heart's escort quest where Mipha has to save Link from an Hinox and after you get the Zora armor, Zora armor's description in French tells "do we really have the right to wear it?". As the meaning of the original Japanese sentence "Is it really OK to wear it?" is difficult to grab, I think French wording can indicate the spirit of this sentence. It's possible that as Link is a simple knight and Mipha a princess, he feels insecurities or not worthy of wearing the Zora armor. It would echo his insecurities in BOTW. It's my personal interpretation of it.
I personally think that mipha is links true love for one reason in the final battle with Ganon in age of calamity you can hear bits of mipha song from her level can be heard.
I honestly feel like it was meant to be Milink if Ganon hadn’t won the first time, simply due to all the evidence and prior history they had together, and that Milink history was further solidified in AoC, so I think it’s Zelink for BOTW, and Milink for AoC.
9:29 I always put Riju's trust in Link being more a result of her having been told stories about him growing up and though that, knowing he is trustworthy. Plus a bit of hero worship.
My personal interpretation: BotW and AoC are two parallel universes. In BotW Link has been known as the hero since he was 12, in AoC the kingdom never bloody figured it out until the calamity is at their doorstep. *This changes absolutely everything.* in botw's timeline, Link's early reveal as the hero thrusts him into a life of discipline and unwanted fame. He was a kid! He followed in his dad's footsteps and trained to be a knight like him, and he WAS exceptional, but he had no idea what the world's got in store for his ass. Him pulling out that sword at 12 didn't just get him into the military, it drew him away from travelling hyrule with his father (and thus straining his friendship with mipha) and probably exposes him to court life and life as a public figure in general. That is a LOT to put on a kid, and he shuts down over the years, going selectively mute. Thus, shared burden, yadda yadda, personal knight spends all his time with Zelda and seems to only ever opened up to her about his personal thoughts, died and came back to life a more talkative person (because memories are gone, yes this is in the masterworks) -> bam, "I wish to see her smile again with my own eyes" Meanwhile in AoC, he was just a knight. A very talented one yes, but one of many. The whole time, just living his life on track as he always thought it would. His dad was a knight, he trained to be a knight, and now there he was. Wondering where the hell the hero is like anyone else. This for one, gives him a few extra years with Mipha as he enlisted older (and got normal soldier duties and off days). As you said, Mipha seems more confident when interacting with Link in this game, too. So up until he pulled the master sword in this timeline he had absolutely no reason to hang around Zelda at all, and didn't share her great burden because he was literally some guy. She never initially resented him because well he never did anything wrong. Or anything at all. They're just immediately cool with each other. So yeah no trauma due to massive burden, no spending time with Zelda, no "oh shit I was being a jerk to him I will make up for it" + Mipha's friendship being more certain this time around -> "Mipha's figure is even more beautiful than usual." 'Nuff said. Funnily enough, the Pot Lid Incident that made Link the princess' personal knight is different, too. In botw she was watching regular guardian testing when they accidentally caused a malfunction and the guardian fired off. Link apparently took a pot lid and deflects the beam protecting Zelda, and this was so damn impressive the king was like "yeah okay you follow her around now". Meanwhile in AoC, he protected her while on duty from a genuinely malicious guardian. :p
Riju is about 12. You've got to remember that her people are tall. Just because she looks close to the same height as Zelda from the flashbacks doesn't mean they are about the same age. She's just a kid.
Plot Twist: - Terrako was a MiphaxLink shipper. So when he used his time travel powers and saw Mipha’s demise, he was like “Oh hell nah”. Not only going back in time to alter the events of the Great Calamoty, but sending help to the Champions long enough for Link to rescue them. Thus ensuring Mipha’s survival.
In AoC, the gal who makes the first move wins. Mipha had an entire marriage proposal prepared, plus a childhood friendship with Link, while Zelda had nothing. Mipha wins
I think if link spent a large amount of time with the Zora's especially enough that the elders and younger Zora at the time have significant memories of him, it's likely he would have known about the armor tradition Also the armor fits link so well that it's given as evidence that Mipha planned to marry him. Idk if you've been fitted for stuff but it takes multiple fittings and measurements to get things just right. It seems it would be very unlikely that he was oblivious to Miphas plans
It does feel weird the fact that she made the armor without having some kind of special connection with Link, it's like buying a wedding ring without even dating the person to whom you want to give the ring to
@@ninalove_9 They had been friends since basically childhood. Her giving the armor to Link would have the modern equivalence of confessing your feelings to your crush and asking them out on a date.
i think it's worth mentioning that mipha tried to give zelda advice about how to unlock her power- i always assumed that it had something to do with love, since we only ever see mipha using her power to heal link, and zelda using hers to save him.
I see a lot of comments which make me curious because from what I notice Mipha is played up as more romantic in English than in Japanese from what I see. So I just wanted to point some things out and some arguments I have seen. I'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade but if we look at the Japanese version of the game it's very different. Mipha doesn't say "Perhaps we can spend more time together" in a romantic way in Japanese. She says that perhaps Link could visit more. This is a very different context. Because it implies what we know that he had been getting more distant. In English it's way more romantic sounding and suggests they are already spending time together and now they get alone time. Also not to crush anyone hopes and dreams but the Japanese word for "someone special" is taisetsuna hito and it is not neccesarily romantic. It means precious, important person. But it can apply to someone's best friend, comarade in battle, or even grandmother, anyone really important. Basically Mipha doesn't need to be dating Link to be called this. We get told they grew up together, we get told they are close we get told he will be there for her. She is definitely someone special and that's enough to be reffered to like this. But she can be that even if he just sees her platonically as his very best friend too. And lastly the unrequited girl who sacrafices herself for her love is one of the most popular Japanese tropes. The connection between Ruto who is unrequited and Mipha shows this is where our minds are going. At least in Japanese as Ruto's legend is the reason she gets the courage to him the armor. Unbeknownst to her Ruto was rejected. So this is not the best sign. The "Mipha over me" thing happened when Link was younger. This is another common trope with little kids the girl tells her crush to choose her over someone else. Because she has a crush on him. Usually her crush is oblivious. It does not matter if her crush actually likes the other girl or not because the focus is the girl's feelings. Which confirms she indeed has feelings for her crush and the other girl is somehow important to her crush. So this is used to tell us Mipha is important to Link and set that up as his taisestu na hito but it still does not imply anything about his feelings as I said she COULD still just be his best friend and that's why his other friend sees her as a rival . Finally I think it's not surprising the English version seems to give Mipha more romantic words than the Japanese because most JRPGs do this. But in Japanese most of these things are very subtle and Mipha is shown to be shy so it's unlikely she is saying that because she is dating Link or is flirting even if she does like him. She is just happy to spend time with him. So the romance is definitely played up in English. While in Japanese she is framed more like an older sister or best friend than a love interest. How romance is presented in JP media is NOT the same way it is outside Japan. In Japan, it's usually more toned down and doesn't typically involve the bold romance and big dramatic mutual confessions we are used to in the West. In fact confessions like Mipha's are typically part of unrequited love girl tropes...so...yeah. It does seem harsh and sad. We get attached to a character and we want to see them happy not get their heart broken. I think localizations do consistently play up love interests and love triangles for this reason. Especially in the case of unrequited love characters. But the unrequited love girl is supposed to be seen as the most selfless love and it's considered sweet for her to not get the guy but love him forever anyway. Mipha fits this trope to a T. But this is not something we are used to seeing in the west so putting that in the English version would come off as too harsh. So I do think they were trying to make Mipha look like she had more hope than she does in the original, in the localization... And of course the story should not just flat out reject her like Ruto, so the original gave her a sweet story and showed how important she is to Link. Even though it's supposed to be tragic. Ship whatever you like but I think these are things to keep in mind during these debates. That said I think Mipha and her story are very sweet and I would love to know more about how things go for her after AOC whether she gets with Link or not because she is awesome on her own. Hopefully we get something. ~KS
These are excellent cultural points, thank you for pointing this out. I have seen these same tropes in anime and manga and it's one of the reasons why I see Mipha as a mother/sister figure to link as well. Just like Urbosa is Zeldas mother figure. Regardless, ship away peeps 👌🏻
Another thing to keep in mind is that yes the localization team not only translates, but re-interprets and even slightly rewrites some parts for the sake of... well, localization... It's important to keep in mind that translating the Japanese version to English will have different context and may use language that may seem to carry a different meaning, but we have a much different culture than the Japanese and our uses of similar terms may have different meanings. I think Link visiting more is basically an equivalent to 'spending more time together' if we think of it in terms of literal meaning. When Mipha says 'spend more time together' basically would mean him spending more time at the domain. The Japanese version still has basically the same context towards Link. But I agree that the evidence that Link feels mutually in Breath is definitely FAR weaker than the material I discussed for botw. Age of Calamity would make MiLink a bit more sense, but I mainly chose that since ZeLink was much weaker, no because MiLink got stronger.
@@Zeldom I think that makes sense. Even saying all that it would have been nice to see her actually give him the armor in the story itself. I like Mipha and it's such an important moment so for better or worse they should have at least gone all the way and made it a proper cutscene. Even if it ended in rejection it would be nice to see her character development and courage and if it ended in marriage then she gets a happy ending. But I do still think they were just trying to not have Mipha's route be too similar to Ruto's. Honestly it would have made me mad had they just made her Ruto 2.0. So I'm so glad they give her her own unique sweet story plus she gets treated so fondly by Link in both games. That's the same reason why the just randomly getting the armor with no cutscene feels kinda messed up to me. But oh well, it would be nice to see more of her just as a character. Because both girls have so much more going for them than being a love interest. Can't wait to see what they do with this story!
@@catalyst2034 Thanks, yeah it's something I think we just have to keep in mind with these things but I do think the Mipha/Link ship is super sweet and refreshing. Whether it's canon or not shouldn't matter. I think their story is beautiful whether it be mutual, or her selflessly loving him and I love the way it's told in BOTW. I don't like how they make her just Zelda's rival in AOC and her proposal doesn't even get a proper cutscene but seeing Mipha alive and happy still wins points in my book.
@@KageSakura yeah I agree. Having them be rivals just seems so wrong to me. Especially since after you release Miphas spirit from her divine beast, she keeps her distance, out of respect and tells Link to save the princess. I feel that like Paya, if Mipha was aware that Link had feelings for Zelda, she would prioritize his happiness over her own and support his decision to be with her. That is part of the tragedy of her character and why I respect the Mipha ship, even if I dont agree with it. 👍🏻
Link and Zelda being in love is, as far as I'm concerned, a core part of the series. Courage, sacrifice and love overcoming evil, even if they can't be together they will always be drawn to each other each time they are reincarnated.
They're supposed to fight evil together but actually they've been romantically involved in very few games. Skyward Sword yes but in Twilight princess they barely interact, in Ocarina of time he is with Malon...
No to be honest in most games in the series, Link and Zelda only worked together, they rarely become close, let alone fall in love, since Zelda is a princess and Link is only a knight. In Skyward Sword though Zelda is his childhood friend and it's pretty clear they are in love.
Imo when I read the conversations between Riju and link it felt way more like a sibling relationship, as in Riju sees link as kind of an older brother kinda figure. I feel like that would fit more and is also quite wholesome
i hope we get a story as good as skyward swords in the future, link and zeldas relationship in that game is so precious. So wholesome and heartwarming. couple goals
Reading Mipha's diary just hurts. Imagine being so devoted to confessing your love to somebody and never getting the chance to because you got screwed over by a demonized pool of strawberry jam that can be onshotted with a single arrow.

However, you can still tell that Revali and Teba respect each other. I think for Teba it was more of a humbling experience, learning that his hero was just as much a real person as anyone from his time.
Even tho this isn't a reason, who would want to marry a GODDAMN FISH! More or less a watered down version of Undyne from Undertale
Riju is way too calm to be a good little sister.
my theory is that link actually spent a lot of time in zora's domain with mipha between like 4-10 years old and then just stopped going for reasons (probably because he went to the junior knight academy or something like that - considering that he's like seventeen in BotW and he already had a lot of sword experience, i wouldn't be surprised if they started this early) and he didn't saw mipha until he was like 15
also that would explain his more serious personality after growing up, he's been in the military since he was around 10 and there is a lot of pressure around it so he probably changed because of it
I remember playing the game and reading Mipha's diary, seeing that she was going to propose then later the calamity killed her and she never had the chance made me cry.
@@Zeldom what messages are those?

Yep, zoras and gordons live a long time
As you said, Mipha dying was as definite as it can be.
Thank you :)
Who knows?
BotW 2 might have Link and Zelda gathering the Triforce and bringing back everyone who was killed in the Great Calamity.
The silent princess could stand for hope instead of love.

I actually checked, and because the Gerudo age faster than Hylians, Riju is actually 12 years old, sooooooooo

@@g00fy_516 they Age faster? I thought she's 11-12 because Gerudos are Generaly bigger then Hylians.

I'm late, but before finishing the video this is my thoughts:
I have always loved Mipha, I found her to be a sweetheart and an incredibly selfless character.
I like to think that, just like during her monologue, Mipha looks down upon them and feels joy, having had all that time to heal and come to terms
I say this because a lot of times I've seen people interpret it as a Mipha vs Zelda competition for not just Link's love but his respect. And I really think it doesn't mean one or the other necessarily.
God, I love these characters.
I know! They are all so beautifully written. Also, i completely agree. I think Link and Zelda will end up together but will always have guilt for the loss of their loved ones.

I don't like to include the heart's escort mission since I doubt any of those side missions are actually part of canon. I'm pretty sure just the main story is canon
Exactly
Seriously its kind of creepy
Probibly another reason I don't ship Zelink? Or Linda?...😂Linda!!! 😂 How's that for a ship name
One thing in Aoc that may hint at Link and Mipha getting together is that the second phase of the final boss theme is pretty much a rearrangement of Mipha's theme.

Link is basically a harem anime protagonist
For the BotW one. I think it's a case that Mipha and Link were friends and there was affection there, but Link ended up distancing himself from Mipha. He still sees her as a friend, but he's too wrapped up in his own stuff to see her as more than that. For Zelda, she somehow slipped past his guard as he saw her as a kindred spirit.
But I definitely agree with you for the Warriers timeline. It's interesting to see how people change and the relationships we might take if a few things change.
mipha couldn't get link to open up that sort of tells me that he only saw her as a friend
Another reason on why I say Mipha for Age of Calamity are Sidon and King Dorephan's respective dialogues to Link in Breath of the Wild:
"Had things turned out differently, you might have been my sister's husband...my brother-in-law..."
- Sidon
"A Zora princess falling in love with a Hylian swordsman... It reminds me of a Zora legend of old. That is why I welcomed the idea of you and Mipha becoming husband and wife. It is a shame you two never had the chance to see what might have been..."
- King Dorephan
Maybe it's just me wanting Link and Mipha to be a thing in Age of Calamity since it couldn't happen in Breath of the Wild due to her death.

I've Played AoC Like 12,000,000 Times, WHAT IS THAT QUEST
I personally think that Links and Sidons relationship is more of a bromantical one than a romantical one
Like...what is said in the video?
I personally think that mipha is links true love for one reason in the final battle with Ganon in age of calamity you can hear bits of mipha song from her level can be heard.
I honestly feel like it was meant to be Milink if Ganon hadn’t won the first time, simply due to all the evidence and prior history they had together, and that Milink history was further solidified in AoC, so I think it’s Zelink for BOTW, and Milink for AoC.
Could've been. We'll probably never know for sure
*This changes absolutely everything.*
in botw's timeline, Link's early reveal as the hero thrusts him into a life of discipline and unwanted fame.
Thus, shared burden, yadda yadda, personal knight spends all his time with Zelda and seems to only ever opened up to her about his personal thoughts, died and came back to life a more talkative person (because memories are gone, yes this is in the masterworks) -> bam, "I wish to see her smile again with my own eyes"
Meanwhile in AoC, he was just a knight.
So yeah no trauma due to massive burden, no spending time with Zelda, no "oh shit I was being a jerk to him I will make up for it" + Mipha's friendship being more certain this time around -> "Mipha's figure is even more beautiful than usual."
'Nuff said.
Mipha was decades old before Link was asleep for 100 years

Plot Twist:
- Terrako was a MiphaxLink shipper.

Mipha wins
He also mentioned Mipha last. He also said she had to be in every video. Mipha wins.
Also my Waifu made me a zora set, best drip in game.
@@laharlkent Zora armor may have the drip, but it would absolutely suck as armor! The thing leaves your whole torso exposed!
I think if link spent a large amount of time with the Zora's especially enough that the elders and younger Zora at the time have significant memories of him, it's likely he would have known about the armor tradition
Also the armor fits link so well that it's given as evidence that Mipha planned to marry him.
Her giving the armor to Link would have the modern equivalence of confessing your feelings to your crush and asking them out on a date.
yeah but what's even sadder is all the zora assume link would've said yes to her!
@@saramartin4791 it makes sense, noting how much time they spent together.
@@-letspretendidontexist-8479 what evidence shows they do not go through a bf/gf stage?
i think it's worth mentioning that mipha tried to give zelda advice about how to unlock her power- i always assumed that it had something to do with love, since we only ever see mipha using her power to heal link, and zelda using hers to save him.
So this is used to tell us Mipha is important to Link and set that up as his taisestu na hito but it still does not imply anything about his feelings as I said she COULD still just be his best friend and that's why his other friend sees her as a rival
.
Meh...link prolly likes food
When it comes to Zelda and Mipha, both would make for lovely couples with Link. Truly, it just comes down to in both games “right person, wrong time”.
And now in tears of the kingdom him and Zelda live together in a house that only has one bed.
mipha loves link so much it says hints in her diary
Imo when I read the conversations between Riju and link it felt way more like a sibling relationship, as in Riju sees link as kind of an older brother kinda figure. I feel like that would fit more and is also quite wholesome
Plus, I’m pretty sure Riju is like 12-13 years old in Breath of the Wild, not 16-17. I’ve always seen it as a brother/sister relationship, too.
