- Gameplay example from the second edition of the game France '40. The game is designed by Mark Simonitch as part of his 19XX (also known by some as the '4X) series and is published by GMT Games. The game consists of two scenarios from the 1940 Case Yellow campaign: Sickle Cut: Guderian's Drive to the Channel and Dynamo: Retreat to Victory (covering the British withdrawal and evacuation from Dunkirk). This video uses Sickle Cut and the combat example from the playbook as well as a look at Movement.

Looks good. Thanks for the great video!
Thanks for watching!
At 9:03 - the attackers are halved, but not by stack total. Individual units are halved rounded up. Rommel tank is a 7 attack, halved to 4 the 3 becomes a 2… the 12 total for the stack is only halved to 7 for attacking across the major river
Thanks, I completely missed that.
Just played sickle cut, now trying the combined game, great game, good maps, lovely counters and good complexity for a seemingly simple game which it is not, hard to play well, in my first attempt the Germans got creamed, so I have lots to learn. Thanks for the video.
Yes, great game in a great system. Glad to hear you enjoyed the video, good luck & thanks!
Awesome, thank you! Still haven’t gotten this to the table yet. Cheers!
Hope you enjoy it!
19:19 …I know this isn’t in the playbook you were following, but after the 10th Pz attack at Sedan why they didn’t do a Breakthrough Combat on the French 2-1-6 Recon unit index 5439. It’s 10-1 odds before any TQ shifts giving I think an Auto DS result.
22:50 rail mv OT ....I THINK the OT comment re movement in rail hexes is for ground movement. I think rail movement is 15 hexes period.
Rule 7.6.4 detraining ....you remove the rail marker at the start of your turn.
Thanks for the clarifications!
Hi how long does the average turn take in this game? thanks
It's tough to give a definitive answer because it depends on various things (scenario, how much combat takes place, how decisive the players are in making their moves, etc.) but I would guess 15-20 minutes or so as a potential average.
How big is the setup for this game? My main issue now is the amount of actual space I have to play the games, it’s difficult to setup some of these due to the space they require to play them
It fits easily in a 4' x 3' space with plenty of room for the counters. You could get by with less, there really aren't that many counters and the maps are 22" by 34" (mounted is double-sided, paper is two separate maps).
@@HexedAndCountered thanks, not bad that would fit on my current table and space. I see so many interesting new games but the space needed for them is just way over what I can provide. Even many of my older games I can’t really bring them out due to the place that they need to play them.
