There's just something so special seeing someone experiencing something for the first time (especially something you personally have seen hundreds of times)
When my grandkids were born, I "banned" anyone from showing them the Star Wars movies because I wanted to show them when the grands were "old enough" to truly understand the movies and I could experience their reactions. My grandson was seven when he saw the original 3 with me. In the ESB scene of Vader revealing his true relationship to Luke, my grandson's mouth was drop-jawed like your wife's and with a bewildered face, he said in a voice struck in pure awe, "I did NOT see that coming." I will cherish that moment to my dying days.
What a great moment. I love how involved she is with the movie, too. Leaning forward, completely transfixed with what's happening on the screen. It shows how engaging the movies are even after 35 years.
I broke up with a girl who luved SW and LOTR and was good in in many departments but cold hearted at end. It took me a while o recover knowing where the hell would I find a SW/LOTR girl again who is pretty and does a great job in the departments of you know what lol
Lol. I did in the theatre in 1980! I didn't think he was lying, but was so shocked. I love that their are still people out there who the reveal isn't spoiled for them!
for the best effect someone who has never seen any should watch 1-2 then skip to 4-5, that way the reveal stays intact. Then, watch episode 3 to figure out how that went down, then finish with 6. People might think darth vader is count dooku if they believe obiwan in ep4 which adds a cool element of surprise
Hmmm. That is actually a pretty cool thing to do. But isnt the name Anakin Skywalker revealed before ep 6. That gives away that Vader is not Dooku. Otherwise that is a good order.
Graham Strouse I thought so as well. Absolutely loved her reaction though. I don't think it was to different from mine when I originally watched this in the movie theater so many years ago.
Peter Weisgerber So have you converted her to a fan? After you guys get the the prequels don't forget to introduce her to the Clone Wars. I think this is some of the best visual and story line work done for the Star Wars universe. I catch a lot grief from some of my friends about watching cartoons. But the stories are just so good. Besides cartoons were originally made for adults.
+Patrick Taylor she is definitely enjoying the films! She's not a super fan like me quite yet...but she likes watching them! I agree about the Clone Wars. The animation and story lines are top notch
That's a genuine reaction if I ever saw one. No yelling "OH MY GOD", no overreacting, just a legitimate face of surprise or disbelief while the truth sinks in.
Kyle Katarn That's funny, but she only kissed Luke to try and make Han jealous! I think Leia knew about it already, but was in denial. I think Luke did too, and was also in denial.
yeah, I photoshopped some buns on her head. I think it's a close resemblance. if you play your cards right, you can probably get her to do the jabba bikini. good luck man.
Peter Weisgerber I find it amazing today that there are still some who haven't even seen the film's yet and when they finally do, they still have that wonder and awe that I had back when I saw them for the first time :)
Beltzer0072 I know! It was such a big part of my childhood, I don't remember a time before Star Wars. I'm glad to be able to share it with someone that means the world to me
SirCopperBullet I felt the same way! sometimes I wish I could forget that scene so I can re experience it all over again... I can't imagine how people must have reacted to Vader's reveal in the theater, all the way back in 1980 😮
I was there in the 80's at 14 years old, we gasped in pure shock. Afterwards, it was non-stop talk - "Is it true? Is Vader tricking him? How could this be?" We had our theories from belief to doubt until The Return of the Jedi came out. Much like all the banter about Rey, Kylo, Finn, and Poe today. ENJOY IT! :)
I was in my 2nd year of college when Empire came out and I saw it over 20 times. I went every other afternoon after I got out of class...and went to the matinee to see it. Loved every moment, but my favorite scene was the Falcon in the asteroid field.
I saw it 9, but that was as a 17 year old with the special editions that were released in 1997. Seeing as I was like 5 months old in May 1980, I coulda seen it 100 times and not remember a damn thing :-)
I did. (Also ANH when it was still known as, Star Wars) It was ever bit as amazing as you could imagine. One of the best memories of childhood was watching ANH for the first time.
FINALLY an "I am your father" reaction video where someone says, in very logical fashion, what we've all been thinking when we all watch adults react to these. "I've heard the famous line, but I never put it all together." And with that, I am completely sold on this being genuine. Btw, loved the intro, it was very sweet and you seem to have a lovely family! Glad to have another Star Wars fan join the mix! :)
It's nice to see that the movie cared about that people might not believe Vader because he is a villain, then they make Yoda confirm this to the audience
Peter Weisgerber yeah, that should've been some mad years hahaha, and sorry for the super late answer lol Edit: How was her reaction to Return of the Jedi?
2:23 Yea, that's his dad, you know a lot of people don't realize this but the real reason the second Death Star was running behind completion schedule and half completed wasn't due to man power it was actually the result of the Emperor having to tap into the Empires Emergency Funds to pay off Anakin's Back Child Support.
AudioAndroid I always thought that it was because the bank pulled the emperor's loan because the first death star wasn't paid off yet..that and labor union disputes you know that old chestnut ;)
I know it's a famous line but is he really his dad? I never put it together. Tragically I was a child of the 90s who had that whole twist explained to me by my uncle before I ever saw the friggin movie...
Me? No, I was quoting the wife in question in the video. Guess I should have put that in quotations... I've seen the whole saga, but I still had the ending of Empire spoiled for me as a kid before I saw it. I'll never have that jaw drop moment that all the people in these reaction videos get...
Henry Hammond Yeah i hadnt seen a single Star Wars movie either when I figured out Vader was Luke's dad The thing I didnt know was that Leia was Luke's sister that was spoiled to me too XD My first Star Wars movie was The Force Awakens. When I found out Kylo Ren was Han Solo's son, I was like: What?! Then, I was like: Wait a minute... This reminds me of the old movies... XD I then saw 4,5 and 6 I havent seen 1-3 yet or Rouge One
You gotta see rogue one, it's one of the best. People will always debate about 1-3, but if you want more star wars they are always there. (If you watch ep.1 first, im sorry, 2 and 3 are much better for obvious reasons)
Rogue One is decent, but pretty much only if you're already a Star Wars fan. It doesn't really stand well on its own, it's sort of "Fan Service the Movie." Hell, I'm a Star Wars fan and I was prepared to love it, but I just sort of the left the Theatre feeling mildly disappointed because it was just sort of... okay. But it's fine for their first attempt to do a standalone Star Wars spinoff.
This reveal is one of the greatest reveals of all time. I wish you could erase that memory whenever you wanted so you could watch the film fresh every time.
" I like her because she is the most "Carrie"ing person I know ... " I know that you do mean all you say but what's seen can't be unseen ... She does look like Carrie Fisher . 😀 May the Force be with you two .
My sainted wife is not a fan but watched every film in the theater with me starting with A New Hope when it was re-released in about 1997. It meant more to me than she knows.
"She saw The Empire Strikes Back 19 times in the theater in 1980." *Likes video instantly.* Huge respect to you and your family. That's what Star Wars is all about.
I agreed with Stephanie. In my subjective opinion, it is kind of tacky to display suggestive content of a stranger when you already have a spouse. Like, it’d be weird if I had a poster of Chris Pine in nothing but a thong.
Thanks for this! I still tear up thinking what they did to the franchise. Nothing in 7 or 8 can stun someone new to the series like the reveal you just showed. It was written different at 1st but Lucas decided to combine Anakin and Darth into 1 being and it was EPIC! It's sad how the new age people can't understand why we were so angry with the new films, they cry racism or Sexists when none of that was what the originals were about. Lei was the Mold by which all female hero's were modeled after the 77 release of the movie. She gave us Strong Women in SciFi and it was ground breaking. May the Old Movies still thrill and excite you!
That is a keeper. She put up with your hobby and then tried to discover why you loved it so. I saw the film, as a child about a dozen times, but did not get that point of recognition until I was older and read a "Empire Strikes Back" storybook and got the "I am your father" line which I missed in my dozen viewings of the film, remarkably. I wasn't really watching the film, it was just a social event, and I had the same look on my face reading it, years later. Yep, I was dim.
I love the quality of this video. It's not an ordinary reaction video with someone freaking out in a room, but a true sharing of one fan's special moment sharing this piece of cinematic history with his wife. The intro was great and really grabbed at me. My wife is Vietnamese and she's never seen the films and only knows Darth Vader because I have a figure of him near my computer. I can't wait to go through the films with her and see what she thinks.
This video is wonderful. I have to admit it made me cry. Tears of joy and true understanding (especially because I felt the same way after Carrie Fisher's passing.) From one true fan to another...BRAVO!
I was in college when The Empire Strikes Back came out in 1980. I saw it at least 20 times...if not more. I love your mom...people thought I was strange that I would go see the same movie over and over...but I did!
Priceless! I'm sort of envious of her. I would love to be able to still feel that awe and wonder witnessing that moment in the film as if for the first time.
These are such rare moments. Finding someone who, after so much time, can still be surprised by a huge plot twist. I had a friend just a couple years ago call me at 2am yelling "oh my god! I'M Revan!"
Like yourself, as a die hard Star Wars fan, I'm sure most of us who have seen the original trilogy had a similar reaction as we learned the relationship between Luke, Leia, and Darth Vader, though no one was around to capture the moment as you did. It's good to see these movies have stood the test of time, being just as magical today as they where when I saw all three when they where first run in theaters nationwide.
That look was priceless! I once saw a video of someone's grandmother who was watching for the first time and her reaction was exactly the same. Disbelief. From children to grandparents, no one wants to believe that the hero is offspring of the bad guy.
Ugh its so pure😭. Thank you for this. I remember being 6 years old finding my dad's 1997 special edition cassette box set and watching them all that day. The nostalgia an uncorrupted reaction brings is incredible.
That is awesome. That part in ESB is the #1 reason i am a huge starwars fan. I was a child and still remember that moment. It is one of the most important scenes in all of movie history.
I saw Star Wars (It wasn't called "A New Hope" then, just Star Wars) 25 times in the theater. I was only 17. I am pretty sure I was so astounded by the experience that my jaw dropped just like your wife's. I may have to watch it again today.
Oh, the glory of this moment, in the moment, at that time, on that big screen, surrounded by people, who, like you, were shocked to bear witness to it. A reveal so profound, so superbly done, that to spoil it to anyone was grounds for terminating a friendship. No one dared spoil this. It was a sacred. Such a moment in movies. Never to be had again.
this was really awesome! I have always wanted to see what a reaction to that must have looked like way-back-when. I can just imagine whole theatres sitting dumbfounded like that, asking that same question! thanks for sharing this with all of us.
these never get old for me, her mouth open is the suspense... an intense battle with a young student against a master... she feels that and knows it... then lost his hand? shes hooked...
I remember seeing this in the theater in 1980, the whole audience had that reaction. "I am your father" has become a bit of a joke now, but was very powerful at the time. Her reaction is priceless.
That's so awesome! I asked the same question 27 years ago when I saw it for the first time as a kid. it is so rare nowadays to find people that have never seen Star Wars much less not know that Darth Vader is Luke Skywalker's father.
I love this video! The set up, the reveal, the outro... I've seen a lot of "reveal reaction" videos but this one is my favorite! 😁 I can't wait to share this epic movie moment with my children one day!
That scene is such a timeless plot twist and fun fact it was one of the most closely guarded secrets in film history when it came to production of episode 5. What I mean is only James Earl Jones(voice of darth vader but not the actor for darth vader) and George Lucas knew what the big reveal was which wasn't unveiled until the films release making for one of the best kept plot twists in film history. As for recording the scene they had the actor portraying Darth Vader use a fake line so later on they would dub over his dialogue with James Earl Jones saying the real lines for Darth Vader.
Hahaha! This was amazing. Love it! Your wife's expression was like, "Wait ... what?" Haha! You know, come to think about it, I think my son reacted the same way.
I remember watching that scene in the theatre with my family and the feeling of immense goosebumps in my 14 year old body. What a moving scene that was. Consider that it was coupled with Harrison Ford's improv line in the Carbon Freezing Chamber where when Leia tells him that she loves him he simply replies: "I know...". Great scenes both of them. For the record my friend Scott and I saw Star Wars in the theatre well over sixty times I kid you not. Star Wars was a phenomenon and remained in the theatres for a year and half. It finally was taken from the theatres only to return six months later again in full release! That's how much of a phenomenon it was! It was unlike any other film that had come before it. It came at a time within a decade of many ground breaking films such as Alien, Terminator, Blade Runner, Die Hard and many other genre changers for the action and sci fi film market. It created the current merchandising medium we have today for toys, comics, wearables and other forms of merchandise. It was nothing less than a phenomenon. I saw Star Wars on its opening day at a drive in theatre with my family as well. So for us Star Wars was a family tradition right up until Phantom Menace. The guys in my family actually got together and had beer and wings before seeing Phantom Menace, having seen Star Wars from the time I was 9 years old. It really was full circle and a great feeling to see Phantom Menace with my brother(s) and my Dad prefixing it with beer and wings!
it's funny how this movie transcends time. that's exactly the same reaction I had when I saw that scene for the very first time as a child in the theater, mouth agape and all, exact same reaction. so funny. glad your wife has enjoyed becoming one with the force with the rest of us star wars nerds, lol.
There's just something so special seeing someone experiencing something for the first time (especially something you personally have seen hundreds of times)
+yopyopo it is awesome! I love that she's enjoying them
It's truly magical introducing some one to something you hold dear. It makes you love them even more. :)

And yes, ur wife definitely looks like Carrie Fisher...
R. I. P. Carrie Fisher
+Darth Vader Lord Vader. I think you mean Princess Leia.
Peter Weisgerber Yes Of Course..
R.I.P. Princess Leia
"She saw The Empire Strikes Back 19 times in the theater in 1980."

Huge respect to you and your family. That's what Star Wars is all about.
Just wondering.... How does your wife feel with a photo of Slave Leia on your wall? Just.... Curious to know her reaction 😆😆
+HobbitNerd Entertainment hahah I think she would have more of an issue if it was hung in the living room
I don't like it. 😂
+Robert Kowalke I am so glad you enjoyed it!
You have earned a subscriber. You should definitely make more Star Wars videos. You would make the greatest Star Wars youtuber
+3moctezumaboys I appreciate that! Thank you very much
+3moctezumaboys what kind of Star Wars content would you like to see?
Sufficient to make even the stupendous wave jealous
I remember being 7 and having the exact same reaction while watching it in the theater. Thanks for sharing.
+Oh Snap!!! No problem! Thanks for watching!
💡🗡
+Nick DiPatri that's amazing! "Light Saber" perfect
I laughed so hard xDD
+Clairvoyant; haha I'm glad you enjoyed it!
That was AWESOME! I always enjoy reliving these moments over again with first timers. Thanks for sharing.
+red ruM absolutely! Thanks for watching
Your wife’s reaction was adorable, and you look like Obi Wan!!!
Man this is crazy, what a moment for you to experience! Good idea on recording that moment and sharing!
+ottocb22 thanks so much!
I think it's so cool that your wife will sit down and watch it with you. she's a keeper
This video is wonderful. I have to admit it made me cry. Tears of joy and true understanding (especially because I felt the same way after Carrie Fisher's passing.) From one true fan to another...BRAVO!
+Butch Entertainment thank you so much! I'm glad it was able to touch someone as much as it touched me seeing her reaction
I love it!! Pure genuine reaction.
+Mario Leal thanks for watching! I'm glad you got a kick out of it
Dude she caught that "WTF!?" face bad! Lol This was great! :)
These are such rare moments. Finding someone who, after so much time, can still be surprised by a huge plot twist. I had a friend just a couple years ago call me at 2am yelling "oh my god! I'M Revan!"
that's like taking someone to disneyland for the first time, and you've been going all your life. you envy their experience.
+Danny D I agree! That's a great analogy
I love how she is not like, "whatever, any weird thing can be true inside of a movie"
Disbelief. From children to grandparents, no one wants to believe that the hero is offspring of the bad guy.
her jaw was dropped even before the reveal, that is how good the film is.
You are such a lucky guy! She was so totally into the experience.
I wish I could watch 4,5 and 6 AGAIN--- FOR THE FIRST TIME!!!

Applying a basic understanding of human biology and psychology I had to laugh when the question is asked. Lol.
Ugh its so pure😭. Thank you for this. I remember being 6 years old finding my dad's 1997 special edition cassette box set and watching them all that day. The nostalgia an uncorrupted reaction brings is incredible.
+Finn Johnson that sounds like a good day! Thanks for watching
That is awesome. That part in ESB is the #1 reason i am a huge starwars fan. I was a child and still remember that moment. It is one of the most important scenes in all of movie history.
Her expression is priceless! lol. Great vid, thanks for sharing.
Nice how you put this vid together! Love it and thank you. Wish you all the best for you and your family!
+B. TheBassplayer thanks so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it
"She gets it, she finely gets it , and togeather we shall rule togeather as husband and wife ! "
Happy for you dude
Great video, thanks for the upload. You guys seem like a great team! Glad there is now something new for you both to love!
+Lars O'Keefe Thanks for watching! She is a great teammate!
Oh my gosh! I almost cried when I saw her reaction!! So awesome!! You're a lucky man.
+Instantphojo I agree I am lucky! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
I can just imagine whole theatres sitting dumbfounded like that, asking that same question! thanks for sharing this with all of us.
these never get old for me, her mouth open is the suspense... an intense battle with a young student against a master... she feels that and knows it... then lost his hand? shes hooked...
you're love really comes across in this short, gave me a little tear of joy :)
+The_Budmaster I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Beautiful. I love it. I also love the style of filming here, had me hooked from the beginning. :)
+Sean Chriscole thanks so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it
I remember seeing this in the theater in 1980, the whole audience had that reaction. "I am your father" has become a bit of a joke now, but was very powerful at the time. Her reaction is priceless.
I really feel sorry for the people giving this a thumbs down. How can you dislike a man sharing a moment with his wife.
+setondriveable I knooooow. Haters gonna hate
Having a bad day, this put a smile on my face. You two are so lucky~
+Nick M awesome! I'm glad this made you smile
That's so awesome! I asked the same question 27 years ago when I saw it for the first time as a kid. it is so rare nowadays to find people that have never seen Star Wars much less not know that Darth Vader is Luke Skywalker's father.
+Collin's Tiki Zone I was hoping she would react, that's why I started filming. I'm really glad I did!
When she looked into the camera with pure shock in her eyes was priceless.
I love this video! The set up, the reveal, the outro... I've seen a lot of "reveal reaction" videos but this one is my favorite! 😁 I can't wait to share this epic movie moment with my children one day!
+gkvaderwolf06 thank you so much for watching!
She has a child-like reaction to the reveal. Very adorable
Way to go...I'm sure you love the reaction you have captured, I think its great! Nice Bantha head on your wall and good job with the editing.
+Kris Kenny thanks so much! I'm glad you liked it
How she's lived this long and never once heard that Darth Vader was Luke's father in her life bewilders me.
+Kenpachi Ramasama it's wild! She just never had any interest in the films
LOVED IT, BRO!!!!!!!! YOU ARE A TRUE MEMBER OF THE RESISTANCE!!!!!!!! MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU, ALWAYS!!!!!!!!!
love it, her reaction is just being riveted, awesome.
This was cool. Thanks for sharing the moment.
+EDarien no problem at all! Thanks for watching
Hahaha! This was amazing. Love it! Your wife's expression was like, "Wait ... what?" Haha! You know, come to think about it, I think my son reacted the same way.
+Eugene Johnson haha yeah she was in shock for sure!
That is amazing. God bless you and your family!!
One of the best reactions I've seen. Bravo to her for putting up with all your Star Wars stuff.
+GrndMstrGravity hahah yeah she is a patient woman :)
Your wife is awesome.
She does make the same face my dog makes when there's a cat outside though, complete astonishment.
It really was full circle and a great feeling to see Phantom Menace with my brother(s) and my Dad prefixing it with beer and wings!
it's funny how this movie transcends time. that's exactly the same reaction I had when I saw that scene for the very first time as a child in the theater, mouth agape and all, exact same reaction. so funny. glad your wife has enjoyed becoming one with the force with the rest of us star wars nerds, lol.
your wife's reaction is so funny and cute. her initial reaction to "i am your father" and then when you zoomed in on her face.
