Even with the recent price increase I'd lean towards REP vs the rogue bench for the clear coat and price... Missing out on a knurled handle and no budging vs occasional movement...
@@GlucksGym yup... REP also needs to improve the pics of their clear coat options as it can be easily mistaken for silver powder coat... That's a relatively easy fix just improving a picture...
The clear coat is much nicer in person. I was really impressed with the clear coat finish on my 5200. Rep definitely needs to upgrade their pics on this superb color option.
Never had the pleasure of using the Rogue monster bench. Previously owned the FB5000, sold it at the beginning of the pandemic in anticipation of a move. Ended up replacing it with the Rogue flat utility bench because it’s what was available. Height aside, I actually prefer the utility. Feels more stable, despite being half the weight, with a firmer pad. I realize I’m in the minority though.
During the flybird reviews you said to go buy the FB-5000 so I did that. I love it. Even my girlfriend, who doesn't spend hours watching bench review videos, likes it. Loves the grip of it.
I made a huge mistake just buying the thompson pad alone. The bench I added it to is too high. Now i'm getting one of these. Key selling point for me is the rep is lower 16.9 vs the rogue with fatpad is 17.5 inches high. I'm use it for flat bench and think having my legs a little lower will be more comfortable overall. Rogue is more sturdy though and has that shiny handle! $500 Rogue in my cart vs $300 rep all in price.
I have both. The rounded handle on the Rep bench is very underrated and is one of the main reasons for getting it other than price. The straight Rogue handle is not comfortable when moving the bench around which matters if you move it a lot. I had bought the rep bench thinking I was gonna swap out the pad for the rogue competition fat pad but haven’t gotten around to it yet cuz the pad is not bad. Fit and finish on the rogue is much better and the Rep paint isn’t the best.
I don't mind the straight handle but I will give the rounded shape the advantage there though I move them both around more than any normal person should 😂
i just sold my rep flat bench to fund for my rep 5200 2.0 clear coat. I do miss a lighter flatbench so ill save up for the rogue flat bench one day. i already have the rep 5200, prime fitness adjustable bench so far.
I have to quibble a bit with your take on weight capacity. The capacity is based almost solely on metal gauge and leg upright size, which both benches use 3x3 11-gauge steel. The issue you had with the Rep bench wobbling seems like it is more due to its lighter weight and smaller footprint which don't affect weight capacity. Yes, the occasional movement isn't ideal, but I wouldn't put that down to Rep's lower weight capacity.
I'm not sure I linked stability and weight capacity in this one but it is me talking alone in a garage, who knows what I said 😂. They're built differently and that's where the capacity comes in. Sure same base material but not constructed the same with the gussets etc. The actual weights of the benches are very similar but the additional stability comes from the larger back end for the most part and some is also the fat pad but you'll notice I put the pad on both benchss.
I went with the Monster Shorty with Thompson Fat Pad and Stainless handle using the Gluck Affiliate code. I absolutely love this bench, it's an absolute BEAST. Makes me want to do more bench sessions during the week. The stainless steel KNURLED handle is definitely worth upgrading to.
Stupid question: when selecting the stainless handle on the website it gives you two options: standard and short…does that mean that the short handle only goes with the “shorty” and the standard handle only goes with the standard bench? Or are they interchangeable? Also if you order the stainless handle does the bench still come with the black handle?
It's not a dumb question at all. Yes the shorty bench gets the shorty handle and standard is standard. The stainless handle looks stainless, you can see it in our review of it
Nice review / comparison. I'm rolling with the REP bench myself (actually think I have the FB-4000. It's flat and works. About all I need). As stated, Rogue would be nice and looks great, but twice the price is hard to ignore. I don't push 500lbs, so the REP is perfect for me.
