Thanks for cranking out such a quality review so soon after the figure dropped! So hyped to have gotten two of these over the weekend! Took a detail pen right to the missing black areas and now they look basically perfect, a much needed improvement over the two previous releases and now they fit in seamlessly next to the Ahsoka P1 Troopers.

The updated Stormtroopers have a bald version of the clone head under their "buckets"; so that could be an option for other Clones. They could decco on some very short hair or face fuzz, or leave em bald. They also have some Arc Trooper heads with other hair options.
I love the phase 1 bucket as much as the phase 1 so some of these guys painted as bomb disposal, sergeant officers etc would be very welcome.
I'd be down for a bald head! Or some other type of haircuts too. -Justin

I like it when you point out the missing black paint hits Nate, it's hard to wrap my head around the fact that one figure gets all of it but another doesn't. It's still a superb figure and a welcome update though!

Even if it would be seen as “a lazy cash grab” I would love to see repaints of this figure to represent the sergeants, lieutenants, captains, and commanders

Great Figure, but the chest plate is warped though. One side is lower than the other if you look closely. Doesn't matter that much, but I think they should fix that in the future.

I just got the 2020 phase 1 clone. I don’t see the tiny little details being a problem with mine. I don’t intend to collect any more clones and I’m happy with the 2020 version I just got.
I normally army build xenomorphs anyway. I have lost count on the many versions of the ‘big chap’ I own.

Would be cool if Hasbro offered up to 5 molded CT heads with different haircuts I’m sure army building collectors would throw their money quick at an assorted CT head only pack to switch them up a little.

As soon as I got this figure, I painted in the missing black bits on his helmet and chest, put a gloss clear on the visor, and painted in the missing gray bits on his knee straps and backplate. Such small changes, but they elevate this figure to best-trooper-in-the-line status for me, a spot previously occupied by the 2020 stormtrooper I added an E-11 holster to.
I'm really hoping that now that we have both the definitive P1 and P2 trooper, hasbro stops doing them as single figures. I feel like instead, every couple of years Hasbro should do a single "deluxe" trooper rerelease with the missing paint filled in and both helmets (and maybe the Phase 1 pilot helmet and a backpack thrown in too to make the figure more worth the deluxe price point.
edit: If they wanted to be generous, they could also paint the guns and toss in the Phase 1.5 pilot helmet (like Hawk wears). They could also toss in a Boba Fett head too so we could choose between a bald clone and a regular one.

The 2020 Phase I Clone Trooper was decent for the time, but this improves upon it so much! Glad to get the option to remove the helmet , and I really prefer the new helmet's size and shape as well. I didn't even notice that the frown wasn't painted on the previous one! Now I can't unsee it! Guess I'll be taking some panel liner to the 2020 figures. Plus, all the minor tweaks like the knee, elbow and shoulder pads. Gonna have to get meat least 4 of these.

Could you point out how exactly does the latest clone trooper body offer better articulation than the original? From what I see, the new one still can't bend his elbows over 90°. Does the torso have more room to move and the legs allow for more natural kneeling poses?
The 2023 Clone Trooper sculpt gets over 90 on the elbows. They're deep-cut single hinges w/ swivel. They also have butterfly joints and bicep swivel. Torso overlay is loose. The knee-pads are floating. The shoulder armor is on the new O-ring system so they don't get scrunched up. etc. If you want a complete breakdown check out the review for Commander Appo. -Justin
You're totally right to call out all the little missing paints hits. They really do add up. When I opened the Target 2-pack Phase 1, I was honestly really impressed by the figure as a whole. It felts like a complete, collector-grade figure. When you compare it to this new one... I won't call it a Happy Meal toy, but it really does just feels cheap and incomplete to me.

@@OutOfTheBasementI suspect a different team of people work on every single figure and there’s never ever the same group making consistent decisions on design/paint. It’s probably a totally random assignment and the ones doing the work are under pressure/deadlines to get things done and don’t care one bit about staying consistent from one figure to the next. I spent my entire career working in a big corporation and in my experience someone in the office sitting right next to me did things completely different than me even though we pretty much had the same job. That’s how big business works.
I think what makes them look and feel cheap is the total lack of weathering and the shininess of the white plastic. Even in AOTC, clones had slightly weathered armor, probably due to all the years of training they had endured beforehand and their amor plates were more of a matte white than the shiny white Hasbro likes to use. That and they refuse to do any sort of detailing on their weapons.
Missing paint apps aside, that helmet sculpt looks great. Can't wait to get mine in.
Paint looks "more white" on the newest one too, but that could just be your camera/lighting.

You hit the nail on the head man. Honestly if the phase 2 didn’t show the chin, I’d have to pick the phase 2 over the phase 1. Just personal preference. I love that design so much. But this is definitely a sick army builder. Idk if it beats the 2020 stormtrooper tho!! lol.

They're all pretty accurate to what we see on screen. It's mainly the articulation that has been the key difference. -Justin

Though I'm more partial to the Phase 2, this is a pretty solid release. It's annoying about the lack of paint though. They really shouldn't overlook the little details that could really make the figures. The weapons are an odd one, the only fully painted long blaster rifle that I know of was on the Phase 1 Purge Stormtrooper and that wasn't even a main line figure. Even the main line commanders and Rex didn't get painted weapons. Hasbro should be lifting their game in all departments and not just the articulation.
Fox had dry brushing on his blasters but again it wasn’t a mainline figure. Seems like clones have always got the short end of the stick when it comes to painted blasters. Thanks for watching Roger! -Nate

Hi Nate. Great review and nice job showing the differences between the three P1’s. Can you please clarify the tool/marker/paint process you’re gonna use to fill in the black on the chin, grills on the sides of the helmet, and two indents on the chest armor? I’d like to do the same with mine but I’ve never really customized before and I didn’t quite understand what you meant. Appreciate any reply and again, great review!
Hey Marky, the tool I mention is called a Gundam Marker it’s a really fine tip pen that is typically used for model kits but works great on any plastics. Just get a black one. You can find it at your local hobby store or Amazon.

How does the face look compared to the phase 2 that came with the droid? Is it the same since I know the single phase 2 had darker skin and the 5 o’clock shadow

Aside from the missing paint apps, this is the best version of the Phase One Clone Trooper Hasbro has released so far.
Thank you for the side by side comparison of the 3 different versions of the P1 Clone figure I never got the original black series Clone figure. I'll probably get one more of this Clone figure.

The little missing paint details are annoying, but Like the phase 2 update from last year, my only real issue with this figure is the matte finish on the armor. I much prefer the gloss finish on the older troopers.
Also, I’m not sure yet what I think it says about the black series line overall that it has been around 4 years since the Galaxy packaging introduced, and we have been given 6 figures from AOTC in that packaging - 3 of the 6 are clones and 2 of those three are literally the same plain white clone figure sans a removable helmet on one of them (albeit with some articulation upgrades as well).
But as we've seen, the needle might be turning in a direction that includes other AOTC figures (and PT era figures in general) that aren't clones. Ki-Adi-Mundi, Droideka, Super Battle Droid, the 3PO, etc. can all be used as AOTC figures. Also the 2023 does indeed have different tooling on the torso, thighs, helmet, etc. I actually think it's a MASSIVE upgrade over the 2020 CT. I'm with you on the PT needing more non-clone figures...but I love me my clones. -Justin
@@OutOfTheBasement trend in 2024 is a good one. But as of today, May 13, 2024, that AOTC mural is not a particularly good look for the line.

Do you guys know if the body armor for the phase 1 and 2 clones are suppose to be different? I've seen other videos going over the differences of the chest plates and etc. but they seem to be identical on these figures

How do you guys fix the missing black paint in the visor and helmet?
I’d recommend a black Gundam marker. It’s basically a fine tip pen for model kits. It works great for getting in those tight spaces and if you mess up it wipes off much easier than actual paint. Thanks for watching! -Nate

How's the articulation? Was hoping you would go through it to see any improvement but you just skipped over it.
It’s basically just the phase 2 3.0 body just with a phase 1 helmet instead. I think they have the phase 2 reviewed as well so you may have to go watch that video. But coming from me (who owns it as well) it has fantastic articulation. Floating knee pads, o-ring shoulder pads, butterfly joints, bicep swivel, a rubber chest armor overlay which helps with articulation, they also have two trigger finger hands.
It's the exact same as any other 2023 sculpt Clone Trooper. But to answer your question, it's excellent. The torso overlay is loose, bicep swivel, butterfly joints, cut at the elbow, vertical hinges, etc. Check out our Commander Appo review if you wanna see the full breakdown. -Justin
