People who think Ascended Astarion is some new person, when in "Good Astarion's" endings it always comes down to trying to have more fun by getting into trouble, committing murder and poking the bear for different reasons. He's a charlatan, a troublemaker, and we absolutely love him either way. Fantastic writing

The "good" ending is a bit bittersweet for him but having him go to the underkark and leading the vampire spawn seems like a good end for him.
    To me at least.

I find that pretty horrible. First he foregoes the Ascension (or we make it impossible for him to ascend in the first place), dooming him to be a spawn for the rest of his immortal existence. Then he loses the tadpole, as he feared. But at least he's free of Cazador, right? But then we force him to spend his new freedom herding 7000 hungry vampire spawn through the Underdark where there is hardly any "food", many of whom want to kill him in revenge (even though it wasCazador's sins not his, as he literally couldn't resist a direct order and even if he so much as tried he was tortured as punishment). And many of them _will_ die to the dangers of the Underdark. Not to mention 6000 of those 7000 spawns are not even his seduction victims, but belong to the other six thralls. And it's not like Astarion has any friendship with those six other thralls... just remember how Petras treated him.
Still, the new scenes make it a bit more palatable, as he seems okay with the various options if he is alone without a lover.

I actually think the idea of being a hero is really good. Precisely because he was the opposite of a hero in the beginning xD. I also like the idea of the cure and traveling, maybe it's hard to find but he has eternal life so enough time to look for it and if he travels around the world to get to know it why not look for it. I don't see a positive future for the ascended astarion, whether he is now a newer type of vampire, he remains a power-hungry, evil and toxic vampire. I wish every character just had a good, a neutral and a bad ending so somehow it's all nothing half nothing whole

He wasn’t a hero, but he wasn’t evil, he just chaotic, and tav can show that not all people want to hurt him, and being good could be FUN 😀
Yesterday I saw in my second play-throug, quest save girl Varna from the Hug, in the beginning of fight he sad “be careful if we kill the hug it will kill the child. I was surprised 😅
I mean, when people really need help, he is willing to give it, but not run around wiping everyone’s nose like a paladin. I can’t play evil characters, my tav “durge” saves everyone, but with self egoism, charisma, and bullying from “durge”, but with the fun and suffering of the villains and I still had 80+ relationships with all the companions by the end of the first act, even with Astarion, and he was always at the group.
At the party with the tiflings he says I didn’t see myself as a hero, but it was fun, and at the end of the game, he asks tav what you want, and if you say to be a hero, he agrees.
Anyway, I love Larion for the character stories and how they can be different for the player’s actions.

@@katiatall It's not like I am condeming him, but he's evil at worst and questionable at best. After all the shit he's been through with Cazador it's understandable he wants freedom. He's not even a true vampire and he's already thinking in controlling others, such as the Absolutists, and lusting after power. Some of his approval and disapproval are questionable and some of them are straight out evil, hardly "just" chaotic. Still it's a good thing you can romance him without the need to be evil.
For example, approving proding Nettie's injured bird which causes its death, you can't argue that's not evil.
Warning Isobel that Marcus is planning to kidnap her. Like, how the fuck can you disapprove that when we have been told she's the reason why Last Night Inn is a safe haven and allowing her being kidnapped condemns everyone.
As someone who suffered a great deal being Cazador's slave, I expected him to sympathize with the deep gnomes being enslaved by the duergar but nope, he dislikes them and straight out says he doesn't care about them and disapproves when the character stands up for the deep gnomes after Nere pushes one of them into the lava (and approves when you say to Nere to get ris od the rest of the deep gnomes), which left me confused.
He dislikes halflings as well. After you save Findal, the halfling you save from the goblins in the druid's grove secret entrance, he approves when you say you are finishing the goblin's job and kill him. Again you can't argue that's not evil. Mind you, Findal was not among the druids that approved what Kagha was doing and her alliance with the Shadow Druids (since he joins your party if you decide to kill them). I get that everyone is racist to different degrees (especially when drow and githyanki exist), but turning a blind eye, enable harm on them or being the cause of such harm is not something you can call "just chaotic".
Whether he ends up being truly evil or not depends on the character's infuence (and gods help the party if he is paired up with evil Dark Urge lol), or the player if they play him as origin.

even when romancing him, i chose the 'we'll find a way for you to walk in the sun again' option... in the world of dnd i don't find it far-fetched or impossible at all for him to find a way to walk in the sun. i think there are probably many spells or items that could help, & we also have the ever popular 'wish' spell i've heard so much about. in my post-game headcanon, astarion & my mc easily find a way for him to walk in daylight or some other equally good outcome. there are many possibilities

Wait, so there are now two radically different ending scene scenarios for the Origin version of Spawn-Astarion? The one with Astarion cowering in shadow at the docks and then later Astarion in a cave teasingly approaching a tied-up guy (who might or might not be there willingly for a fantasy scenario to get bit by a mysterious handsome rogueish vampire?), with the Narrator saying he will thrive in the City.
And now this new version which mirrors both the Ascended Astarion Origin scenes (with him inside the tower instead of on top of the tower) as well as the options that you get in the final scene as Tav with Spawn-Astarion as romance partner: 1. be heroes, 2. lead the 7000 spawn in the Underdark (if they were let go), 3. try to find a cure, 4. travel the world

This is why spawn Astarion as a companion is better off romanced. He isn't alone with his burdens and has a good influence on him. Someone he can trust, love, and share his fun with. Also this reaffirms to me that AA only turned Tav to remove them as a competitor. A spawn Tav is only a treasure to him because they are proof of his conquest/control over a very powerful person.

Not a fan of either of these options, to be honest, especially if you romance Astarion.
Spawn you essentially doom him for darkness, hunger, making him weaker than he was, and the cut content with Withers in the epilogue also says that there is no cure for his condition, so any of those hopes of cure for vampirism or daywalking are just wishful thinking most likely. You can argue the "Wish spell" or "True Ressurection" methods but those are also extremely hard to find and are not given to anyone randomly and for free (Vlaakith has one, and she's a literal god and Gale has one because the fate of the large portion of the world depends on him, plus he's in cahoots with another god).
Wish is not a wunderwaffe that can do absolutely everything you want - the trio would have used it to get full control of the brain, Rafael could have used it without the need for all those ploys and schemes (and he has *way* higher chances of obtaining it) even Vlaakith herself could have used it to kill Orpheus right away. There are still some limitations and Wish may not always even work.
In the end you either cure Asatrion, he becomes a mortal and you both die, or he becomes a daywalker and then you will die - you can't win either way.
However, at least as Spawn he remains his "true self", though the "hero" Astarion just feels off, at least to me. He was never a morally correct or good aligned character, so turning him into "nice guy" just feels OOC.
Ascendant is better for the character (next step in vampire evolution, able to enjoy freedom and luxuries even true vampires can't get, becoming a "living vampire" with feelings and all that) but a huge red flag for your MC and has a darker tone, as you almost make him the next possible villain, unless you roleplay as "good" MC that hopefully can keep his power-seeking impulses in check.
Despite all the hate, I still think Ascendant is probably the best option for his character the way I see it, but I will gladly consider alternatives if Larian ever adds new ending like they did with Karlach.

The main difference in the Origin Spawn ending is that Astarion is alone. He has no reason to be happy, he fell back into the old methods he used to survive... I personally love the Spawn ending if Tav is romancing him. We're here for him, with a future full of hope and we'll continue helping him becoming a better person through our love - but not a hero ( cz I, as well, dont really like here in this origin ending the " I wanna try be a hero ", not fitting ). Being alone or being with someone who loves you to face the future is imo, a big changement.
Also "In the end you either cure Asatrion, he becomes a mortal and you both die, or he becomes a daywalker and then you will die - you can't win either way." -> Doesn't really matter imo, so do we in real life, or so do the others couples... If you play an elf for example, you can live long enough with him to live a beautiful love story, and who knows where it'll lead.
Yeah, they still haven't find a way to cure him but they won't give up and imo, that's the point we should be remembered, that's the win.

ascendant ending is the easier choice for origin or non-romanced Astarion imo. nevertheless, after the ascension I think he has a big target on his back - highly possible there’s gonna be someone who would want to destroy him & take the power..
but if you romance him as Tav/Urge who resisted the urge I prefer the spawn ending. despite the setbacks he has MC to lean on and it gives him more opportunities for character growth down the line. and having somebody to love him… he never really had that, never had someone to treat him kindly. at least to me that’s more important than having power.

Ascended Astarion is a heartless being. As I understand all vampires are canonically evil in DnD (at least people told me that). So he’s just evil uncaring person with tremendous amount of power and ambitions to rule. Not good.
Not being able to eat or enjoy the sun is sad. But it’s not the end of the world. He still have his heart, his lovable self. He can travel the world, help others or just tend to his own need. But that would be his free will. Not him being corrupted by ascension.
