I mean seriously what was he expecting lmao. moon elves do have white hair in Faerun, but Astarion has unmistakably red eyes and pointy teeth, and even Tav has the option to say "Obviously" if he confesses as a companion.
Confessing to Wyll and Wyll says "not even the blade of frontiers is immune to your not-inconsiderable charms" Meanwhile your Astarion has -1 to his charisma rolls lmao
I think her VA Samantha Beart mentioned in an interview that earlier versions of Karlach was also pretty edgy, but they changed it cause there was too much of that going around the camp.
She is the literal reincarnation of a golden retreiver in this game. There is not a single thing not to like about her. MY only regret is the fact I finished the game with her and seen her story to completion. Before they added the option to go with her to avernus. I sent her there alone in my game :( I would of went with her. Left the overworld to Astarion to rule and me and karlach go rule avernus one day. Le sigh
I mean it kinda makes sense. Sometimes you encounter people like her that have been through the wringer that what's left to do is to accept and move on. Karlach has have a hard life, Astarion being vampire won't faze her.
For real though. I actually started grinning when she said that. It's so precious? Karlach is a good friend. I almost wish we could see these interactions between companions when using a different origin character, but I guess that's what makes it special.
after 2 playthroughs with astarion as companion i could easily just read any of his origin lines in his voice and to be frank, it seems like astarion voice has occupied a space of my brain forever, hope he feels cozy there
“A lesser man would sever that well coiffed head from your neck without a moment’s hesitation.” “And I won’t drive a stake through your pasty white chest.” Haha, someone sure isn’t immune to vampire charms.
His face reminds me of Tony Hawk’s in his movie. Specifically this portion, which you can find on UA-cam: “Why does it smell like pee pee and poo poo in here?” [Background music has a horror sting during this dialogue] “It’s gotta be Tony.” [Cut to Tony’s face] “No seriously, why does it smell like caca and wee-wiz in here?”
I can't wait to do Durge! I've heard so many good things about it, the thing that made me want to check out some of the origin characters was just learning that the narration is different for them, it piqued my interest haha
It's pretty nice for a second or any subsquent playthrough though. You get to see the origin character in another light. Plus, it gives you the opportunity to do things that they wouldn't do otherwise and the comments that the other origin companions you get are worth in my opinion.
I love playing as origin characters. I've played Gale and it's pretty good, you get Tara in camp witch I love. I'm playing origin Astarion now and I quite like it, I do miss Neil voice acting, but it is what it is.
Such a shame there is no voice on the original characters. Would love to hear how Astarion actually talks his way out of these. but then again, I reckon Larian would release this in 2028 rather than now. Imagine failing persuasion/deception/performance and the voices change and stutter. I would be willing to bet also that the voice actors would be exhausted after it all if this would be the case. Either way, I can only dream :)
I mean, the game has gone through many changes, including the fact that Tav and the Avatar Origin characters were supposed to be mostly voiced (Avatar Karlach stil has voicelines after she falls off the Nautiloid)
I love how it's not that Astarion would bite someone 's neck in combat that tips Lae'zel off, it's the fact that she inspected it closer afterwards and found that there were telltale signs of Astarion's bite being one of a vampire lmao
I accidentally did the "reveal through biting" when I started a playthrough a Origin Astarion right at the start of Act 1. 😁 After Astarion had fallen out of the Nautiloid and woken up on a sunlit beach and freaked out a bit, he "recruited" Shadowheart as his protector, then the two confronted the "brain things" in the crashed Nautiloid and got swarmed by them. Due to some spectacular misses by our heroes (cough) and critical hits by the intellect devourers, Astarion and Shadowheart got their asses handed to them. They managed to kill off all but one devourer, but the creature would be up next in initiative after Astarion and any attack from it would either kill SH or him. Astarion had already used up his weapon attack, had no action left to cast his elven cantrip either, and shoving the creature with his puny 08 STR wouldnt do much good. In desperation I looked at his available remaining actions and found... his bite attack. "Hey," I thought, "that will also restore some of his hitpoints, right? Let's do it!" So Shadowheart saw her pale compatriot suddenly lunge at the tentacled brain creature and sink his teeth into it and kill it! Her first reaction was "You fight well" and then she was like "Wait a minute... a _vampire?!" (whoopsi) I had this mental image of irate Shadowheart pointing accusingly at Astarion while Astarion stood there sheepishly, his fangs still stuck in the spongy giant brain he was nomming on like a doggie eating a giant marshmellow. 😆
I love the facial expressions during the narrators words explaining our throught process. Like astorian's face going sour at 9:45 when she reaches... "maybe" or the head tilt at "wont she?"
There’s also different responses from them if you just straight up bite them (tho they disapprove). They will immediately confront you. Gales one is quite funny.
I was able to hide it until i met the Gur Hunter in the swamp and as soon as I finished combat with him, Lae'zel pulled me over and we had a very pleasent, not at all threatening chat. Considering I bit her earlier in the playthrough im surprised she didn't just kill me outright.
Gale took it all in stride when I confessed to be a vampire instead of using bite in front them when I finally got up the courage to tell them before taking down the goblins.
I misclicked in the first hour and chomped Shadowheart in the middle of combat. Ended up romancing her for the rest of the game because it would be way funnier
From what I know, the story is the exact same. With sometimes different dialogues like this. But overall don't expect any major changes. Imo, there is no reason to play origin other than roleplaying the character.
Overall plot is the same, the finer details varies causes you see it from the pov of the origin character for instance I'm playing as wyll and just in act 1 meeting karlach is different and you get specific responses due to your past history with her when you're talking and I expect act 3 i’ll get responses different than if I did a custom character
@lostprophecy7593 Yeah it's not feasible for full VA, but it would have been nice to have a few key spots in their quests voice acted when you play them.
i hate that the trigger is bugged/framed only in the sense of you biting someone in camp. Like Gale. he's actually kind of nice/understanding, but hes speaking as if you just bit him
I would assume there's some quests/interactions that might out you, like Talking to the Gur hunters in act 1/3 or Cazador. But you can absolutely avoid it by just not using the bite ability
Anybody get coming out vibes from this? I love it! But its so surreal: Weighing your options, trying not to be found out before you're ready, hoping they'll understand... Maaaan
You can probably hide it the entire game. You can choose to bite nobody when you get the camp cutscene, you can also just choose to not bite in combat or mention it to anyone in conversation. i liked the new dialogues from the companions, but it’s so weird not hearing Astarion talk

The reason he’s the worst origin character to play as is because you rob yourself of the brilliant performance by Neil Newbon
Lmao Lae'zel sounds borderline aroused by the revelation
we have to assume veiled but sincere threats of castration are just how her people flirt
I mean, she does serve basically an inmortal ghoul that feeds on people's souls.
