When was this recorded? Remarkable how much it's already changed in just a few decades since being developed. It's recognisably what I practice, but the way I was taught is quite different

This video is one of the oldest (early 1980's) of Professor Lin Housheng, the creator of the Taiji Qigong Shibashi system, demonstrating set 1. The system has a total of 8 sets. The system itself has not changed, but most people practicing it never learned it in details and started to transform it for lack of understanding and access to the original information and intention behind its creation. Most people only learned the choreography sequence but not the details of the movements and the intent behind them.
For lack of access to this information, especially in English, most people started to fill in the blanks with other system. A simple example of this is the Cloud Hands movement. The height of the upper hand should be eye level with the gaze looking through the tiger mouth and the lower hand fingers pointing forward to push the Qi to the opposite Kidney as we rotate. This will link the Jing/Lower Dantian with the Shen/Upper Dantian as we change the hands before rotating to the opposite side. Shibashi being a Medical Qigong system, we are not concerned with martial application so exposing the ribs in this movement is not an issue. It is actualy feature since it will improve circulation in the chest and open Sp21/DaBao. Many Taiji practitioners who only learned the sequence will change how they do Cloud Hands to fit the way they do it in their Taiji form. But by doing so, it will change the impact the movement has on the Qi flow and the role it has in the original sequence.
If you have any questions about the Taiji Qigong Shibashi system, I'm happy to chat. I'm an indoor student of Prof. Lin Housheng.

I also noticed that many instructors are changing his original breathing system. For example, in set 1 movement #14, punching out, Prof Lou Hou Sheng instructs us to breathe in as we punch out, but most modern instructors tell us to breathe out as we punch out. Would you explain the theory of his breathing in as he punches out. Thank you.
