TOPIK II is also an endurance test. I would suggest practicing under exam conditions as well because it's not easy to sit down and focus for that long. I'm doing the test in October and am aiming for a level 5 too! Good luck to you and everyone else doing the TOPIK soon!!

I've been in Korea for 6 years and started working towards f-visa with topik/ kiip program. It gives extra points when you finish. Your video gave me a huge confidence boost, and a sort of calm reassurance. Marriage isn't an option and I thought I was lacking being here for 6 years and not with an F-visa yet 😅. I always assumed you already had residency but knowing you've face the same yearly renewal but longer. Respect. I hope you do well on your exam and get that visa freedom you deserve.
Woah if marriage is not option then is it must? I hope it is what i'm thinking. That marriage isn't the only option.
Honestly people don't even get marry these days and people move to another country with admiration and strong will. So i hope that law would be change

안녕하세요. 저도 데이브님처럼 한국어를 배우는 외국인입니다. 한국에 살고 있지 않지만요 ㅎㅎ
저는 90회 토픽 시험 보는데 이 영상을 보니까 괜히 반갑고 그러네요 ㅎㅎ 토픽.. 하.. 많이 어렵죠. 19년도에는 6급까지 따봤지만 시간이 너무 오래 흘러 유지할 수 있을지 모르겠네요 ㅋㅋㅋ
개인적으로 읽기나 듣기 시험보다 쓰기 시험이 정말 어려워요. 시간도 그렇게 많이 없고 1교시에 듣기 시험 이후 바로 들어는 거라 자칫 잘 못 하면 원고지 최소 글자수를 못 채울 수도 있습니다. 쓰기 시험 볼 때는 문법, 띄어쓰기가 매우 중요합니다. 아 단어 선택도 한자어를 사용하면 보다 높은 점수를 받을 수 있어요.
토픽 시험이 며칠 안 남아서 연습 겸 이렇게 댓글을 달아봅니다 ㅋㅋㅋ

데이브님, 영상에서 포인트 시스템이라 해서 F-2-7비자를 따려고 하시나보네요 혹시 가능하시면 F-2-7 point visa말고는 f-5비자를 신청하시는게 추천드립니다. F-2-7 포인트 비자도 출입국사무소 가서 연장해야 되고 연장할때마다 포인트를 다시 계산해야 되고 그러다보니 나이를 먹으면 먹을수록 필요하는 80포인트를 유지하는것도 어려워지는데요 (나이에 따라 계산되는 포인트는 나이를 먹을소록 떨어지니까요..). 본인 개인상황에 대해선 잘 모르겠지만 f-5비자 조건을 혹시 다 맞추시면 바로 f-5비자를 신청해보세요. F-5비자는 "진짜 영주권"이라고 생각하시면 됩니다.

I have taken the TOPIK test quite a few times already and I can tell you that it is kind of a stiff test to take.
It has a structure that it always follows and if you get familiarised with how that works, even if your actual Korean level is not that high you can get the points. (Not that this is your case, just saying I have seen a lot of people who get TOPIK 5 or 6 just by using the tips and tricks needed but their actual Korean level is much lower, not just speaking but actual understanding)
Try searching for previous tests to get familiarised with the structure, and I also recommend you check the requirements for the writing test and work on it as much as you can (aka do mock writing essays and have your teacher check them) to familiarise yourself with the way they want you to express yourself.
The writing part is usually the most difficult and the one where foreigners get the least points. My previous teachers told us that if you get over 50 points (out of 100) in the writing section then your written Korean abilitty is super good. Unless you are a Korean native taking the test for your teaching certificate it is quite hard to get more than 60-70 points.
If it is not urgent for you to get the results to apply for your residence I would recommend that the first test you take just to familliarise yourself with the flow of the exam and then take the next one to focus on getting your score. If you do not have that liberty, I would recommend you do mock exams and follow it exactly as the real one so you can get used to the environment stress and pressure of the day of the exam. Since it is not like any other exams foreigners are used to it can be quite stressful for first time takers.

저도 데이브처럼 한국어 친구한테 많이 배우개돼서 제대로 공부한적이 없거든요...
그래서 저도 토픽 문제 몇번 했는데 넘 어려웠더라고요 ㅠㅠ 어휘랑 문어체를 공부 너무 안해서 데이브처럼 강의 들어서 공부해야겠다 ㅎㅎ 이런 영상 많이 올려주세요!! 저도 언젠가 토픽 볼거니까 너무 궁금해요!

When i lived in korea i took a topik practice test and immediately knew life there wasn't gonna be for me any longer than the 3 years i was there lmaooo i'm terrible at test taking in english let alone korean.... GOOD LUCK DAVE

예전에 어느 영상에서 한국어TOPIK시험 6급문제를 봤는데, 한국사람인 내가 봐도 정말로 너무 어려워서 다소 놀랐던 적이 있습니다.
저도 외국어 학원에 다녀봤지만, 글자를 보면 무슨 말인지를 알겠는데, 말로 들으니 하나도 모르겠던데, 한국어도 TOPIK시험과 회화가 같은 이치가 아닌가 생각을 합니다.
데이브씨의 한국어 발음을 들어보면 목소리만 들으면 한국사람이라고 할 정도로 워낙 발음이 원어민 수준이라서 6급시험에 충분히 합격을 할수있으리라 생각을 합니다.

i've been learning korean for almost 2 years now and still learning, i'm confident in my reading skills both inside and ouside of class, confident in my writing skills more so in class and less so outside of class and not so confident in my speaking skills inside of class (i can do ok with a bit of a push mostly in memory) and not confident at all in my speaking skills outside of class
I don't get to use my korean skills outside of class unless i go OUT of my way to do so, i haven't been watching shows often, and i don't really have and close korean friends to converse with often enough to better my speaking skills
this video was an eye opener that someone i consider great at korean still has and strives for room to learn for something big (i believe you can do it!!)
this inspires me to better my skills so that one day i can feel confident in my skills and be better at using them 😁

전 6급을 딴 후 2년 동안 한국에서 생활을 하면서 매일 한국어를 말하게 됐었는데 그 동안 회화 실력이 엄청나게 늘어났어요. 근데 성적 유효 기간이 만료 다 되니까 시험을 다시 보게 됐는데 5급으로 떨어지더라고요ㅠㅠㅠ 소통 능력이 늘어나도 시험 점수 떨어지다니! 진짜 말이 안돼요! 이런 문제 풀기나 사람들이 잘 쓰지 않은 어휘에 집중하는 시험은 큰 의미가 있는 걸까 싶기도 하고... 열심히 공부하느라 소중한 시간이 너무 아까웠어요. 원래 언어는 소통하려고 배우는 거잖아요? 저도 데이브님의 답답함에 공감돼요ㅠ

I Will take the test too next October and it's just for the first level. Hope goes well. Korean language is so difficult I love to heard it but grammar ahhh야!
Hello fellow TOPIK taker. I will also take the exam again in October.
Since it is your first time taking the test my advice for you as a "선배" in taking the test is to not put too much pressure on your self. It is a very unfamilliar style ot taking a test for the people taking it for the first time, so my recommandation would be that you just take it as a "let's see how this thing works" and try to just get acclimatised to the environment of the exam for the first time you take it. Do not put any pressure on yourself on the first try. Then when you take it again the second time, when you already know how it works, you can start focusing on getting the points and passing the exam.

If you are planning on eventually taking the government KIIP class/test for permanent residency, I just finished the class and passed the test, so you could have my textbook if you want to see what that looks like~ (I'm in Seoul)

I'm also trying to get my F visa, I'll make the 3 years requirement by the end of this year. It's interesting watching this because I have the opposite problem with you. My speaking is quite low, I speak well enough that I can have conversations with any random person on the street and translate for those who need help. But it's nowhere as fluent as you are. But my reading and writing skills are high. I did self study through books, so it makes sense. I'll try out this site to see if there is a tutor to match my needs. 1) Speak more fluently / confidently 2) Prepare for the kiip test. Kiip results never expire so I chose to do that over topik.

영어 시험 준비한 사람들은 "따라서", "반면에", "그러나"에 집중 많이 합니다. 보통 그 뒤에 나오는 말이 핵심적일 때가 많거든요. 아주 기본적인 꼼수... 한국어 시험도 비슷하네요.
난 한국에태어나 15년살고 미국에 27년째 살고있는데 저시험 내가치면 통과할수 있을려나 궁금하네요 ㅎ (미국 시민권은 오래전에 땄었는데 어렵지 않았어요)

As someone on BARELY passed KIIP level 4... there is a clear jump in the vocabulary needed for these tests vs being able to communicate on a daily basis. I have a friend who works in a Korean business, failed TOPIK II because its FILLED with vocab she has not experienced in the 10 years she has lived here. Is KIIP not a path you want to take? Or is it too long for you?

자만하지만 않는다면 충분히 영주권 취득할 수 있을거예요
한국사는 미국인들좀 만나봤는데 한국살고싶어하는 미국인들 은근 많음 미국이 더 낫지않냐 하는데 그건 맞는데 그만큼 부정적인면도 많고 미국인으로 미국에서 태어난거여서 데이브처럼 별 특별한거 못느낌. 오히려 총기사고,치안문제,의료시스템,느려터진 공공시스템, 학비빚 때문에 힘들어함. 한국어 어느정도되면 영주권 따고 싶어하는경우 은근많음. 어차피 영어권 미국인이라 대우도 어느정도 받기때문에 굶어죽지않고 편리한 한국에서 지내고싶어함. 병원혼자갈정도 한국어 실력이면 죄다 그냥 한국에서 지내고 미국은 가끔 가족보러 놀러가는 미국인들도 많음. 한국에 미국인들도 워낙많고 음식들도 서양음식많고 한국인들이 영어권 사람들에게 친절한경우가 많아서 영어로 말해도 알아들을려고 노력하는 사람들 많아서 그냥 미국 또 다른 주라고 생각하고 사는 경우도 많음. 미군들 최고 근무지나라가 한국임. 아프간,이라크 이런곳 가는거보다 한국이 훨씬 나아서
근데 데이브 한국어 엄청 잘하고 띄어쓰기도 할줄 아는...5,6급 될듯..
솔직히 기출문제를 안풀어봐서 만점 못 받은 거지 몇 번 각잡고 연습하면 데이브 정도 실력이면 우습게 따실 듯 합니다 실제 제 외국인 친구도 6급 땄는데 그리 어렵지 않았다고 하더군요 참고로 이친구는 한국살이 6년 차입니다.
