They should really standardize this. I remember they removed it in the TdF years ago because people like Armstrong won the tour essentially on bonus seconds sometimes, so they wanted more fighting for gaps. But really, it's the same for everyone. If you want bonus seconds you have to fight for the stage win. Glad they brought it back in the tour.
what a horrible race design, even stages that are supposedly designed to change the gc fail to do so, 6 sprint stages in a row, this is baffling. Completely unacceptable
@@Lou-Lou.previous years have had much better parcours. If the stages are primarily in the north of England, Wales and Scotland and a couple of hilly stages in the south west it’s a good race. This is a very poor race but we don’t know the challenges they’re facing. There’s no sponsor and apparently they have limited access to roads, no enthusiasm from local councils etc
@HkFinn83 yeah I get that but it's nice to have it travel a bit round the country, I was able to go today because it was close to where I live, was a great day out and lots of support from the public, unfortunately there isn't alot of love for bike racing in the UK at the moment when it comes to locals and councils, its quite sad
It’s being run by people who really don’t know what they’re doing unfortunately. Yes there’s no sponsor and they have limited access to roads, but repeatedly choosing to have rides finish in town centres is just poor planning and a lack of knowledge imo. What’s happening is marketing people who don’t know cycling are making decisions and they see a big crowd at the finish line as a marketing ‘win’, regardless of how boring the race is
Wonder if it's part of the agreement with Gloucestershire, start Tewkesbury->Cotswolds->Stroud District->Gloucester finish. Starting and finishing in towns isnt creating exciting stages
@@HkFinn83 The funding is coming from local authorities who want the finish to be in a town centre. This year, the race very nearly didn't go ahead (the Women's Tour - promoted by the same organisation - was cancelled), so it's been a case of surviving until next year when the race can hopefully have a more challenging, parcours. There have been plenty of summit finishes in the past, as well as plenty of hilly stages (I've been to three in the Lake District, as well as around the Forest of Bowland). This year's route has been poor, but it's been entirely the result of the funding crisis.
@@johnwestwell2241 yes and no. In smaller races it’s the race organisers who pay for the road closures. Not completely sure about ToB but I believe that was true in the past, likely still is. In the Tour (of France) different regions actually bid to host stages. But the real money is in tv/streaming rights. That’s why it makes zero sense to have city centre finishes that are not interesting to watch on tv. Cycling is a tv sport now and has been for a good while. The big races have been steadily reducing the number of flat stages for that reason. The only thing to conclude from this race is that the ToB has very very little clout in terms of organising a race and/or the people running the show do actually believe it’s a good choice
Terrible race route. No serious climbs, no hilltop finish, no competition for Jumbo this year in the sense of an actual GC challenge. Feels like an amateur race with sprint finishes every stage.
The Isle of Wight was scheduled to be in the race last year (until that stage was cancelled). The Lake District has been a regular feature of the race since its inception. The race can't visit every region of the UK each year. A bit like the Tour de France wasn't in Normandy/Brittany/Pas de Calais this year.
Come on Ned, get with it with the correct pronunciation, it’s Chooksbree (not Tewkesbury), Caatswoldes (not Cotswolds) and Glaarsterr (not Gloucester) 😊 Well done Gloucestershire, big crowds and glorious weather.
As we always say, we can't just turn up somewhere and say "we're racing here". Delivering this event costs several million pounds, so stages need to be funded properly. As it happens, there are places across Britain, and spectacular/hilly stages we'd love to do, but have never been able to, sadly. Today's stage takes place in Wales, too 👍
I think you do a mega job so Thank You! There's always going to be idiots sitting a keyboard arguing black is white etc. Thank you for brining this to Britain and giving us a bit of what France has enjoyed for years.
@@davids7815 A LOT of idiots here then, all saying the same thing. I just think if you can’t do it properly, don’t do it at all. It was an embarrassment of a race.
Did you watch stage 7? The selection occurred on the hills coming in to the finish. Wout van Aert )the strongest rider in the race) go away but blew up inside the last kilometre. A small group was then dragged back up by Nils Politt to contest the finish. Today's stage is likely to be very similar, with two back-ended climbs which will split the peloton to pieces.
Better racing today compared to the whole past week…
Took the proper Yorkshire stages away.
Most boring race of the year so far
Britain looking beautiful 👍🇬🇧
Some decent racing there. Great to see a team like Uno taking a stage.
Why don't the sprint finishes have bonus seconds? Surely Kooij deserves them

Best GC ever. Top 30 within 3 seconds. :)
Great video highlights showing all the important moves!
Nice to see you enjoying yourselves. Just like Majorca 👍

They should look to races like the Tour of Denmark. Never more than half of the stages end in a bunch sprint.
It's the UK the most you get is two biggish hills 🤣

How many years since Brexit and already the Tour of Britain is reduced to this? 😞
Hi, why they do not place the finish line in a KOM climb ? « Butterfly effect style » : this is a quite knuckelhead race…

One more crash for Carlos Rodriguez 🤦🏻♂️
Did Wout attack during a crash then? 🤔

Where was the lake District, isle of wight, etc...
One is in the north of England, one is off the south coast. I think you’re on the wrong channel mate, the geography one is over there 👉🏼

good morning at my expenc cow...
Yep, time for pushing pedals next to riders because cycling is the most exciting adventure of life above all oh yezzzzzz you can bet on it guys ❤

Mountain stages are so boring
This race is a bit of a joke not worth watching
