Some people have Screamers and comps in the front of their chain, I have a comp and FABLE right after. I use it on everything. It just gives flavor and mod and movement to all sounds. It makes whatever you imagine better. Buy a FABLE! Buy two! I am Groot!
I'm so glad that you tried settings with the delay time at zero! That's a very different sounding palette, i'm not sure but i think in that way the hidden capabilities of the granular synthesis shines
I am Groot.... this pedal seems so far up my street that I could probably live in it. Definitely added to wishlist! Great video, I think I'd agree with the suggested extras, presets would be super-useful, and it just seems to lend itself to stereo.
Perfect for bedroom players when you come home and want to play with knobs and get something different every time. Not quite for songwriters or performers who want to save a sound and use it in a song and recall it any time. No presets in other words. Crazy to me that a company can make a pedal with this many sounds, and not let you save them. Insane...
The Walrus Fable is like a Chase Bliss Mood for people who want an instantly usable and conventional ambient granular experience. It doesn't have the depth of weirdness and experimental stuff that Mood has - but it has instantly usable, and creative, and glitchy wonderfulness. Fable is musical, and awesome, right out of the box. Especially if you're rooted in conventional music and just want glitchy colours and shades added.
Andy! Just bought the Melee and saw a teeny pic of this on Walrus' page confirming I registered it with them. The art alone got me excited, but this is the kind of sound generator I love. The wallet hurts, but I AM Groot. Cheers!
"I am GROOT!" I make some "weird" sounds .... at times... BUT, this has those possibilities magnified to more extremes than I care to explore. BUT... it's Cool. So.... is GROOT!
Hmmm, I always wince when people suggest a DSP based pedal should be stereo. 2 channels means pretty much double the component count which in turn means almost double the price (some minor economy possible in case size & shipping cost ) . Once you know this to be true, it just means you're saying "I don't think this pedal is anywhere near expensive enough" ... I can't quite get on board with that.
Not quite. Doubling components doesn’t actually double the cost because economies of scale kick in. Where the cost is added is in the risk involved in committing to producing enough to take advantage of economy of scale and as the price rises, sales fall and all that. This is why the law of diminishing returns exist.
I wonder how this would pair with the Lore? I have that one and love it, but wonder if the two together might be too much? I am Groot...well, not really.
Tiny mistake in your diagram. You have an X at both signal feedbacks. That's incorrect. It is like you say it: feedback for DSP A and regen for DSP B 👍🏻
@@TheGuitarGeek yeah I just checked my Lore diagram and it seems like Walrus wrote it down like that 😅😂 The explanation is solid though 👍🏻 Granular is a weird domain and it can be hard to explain.
Grootelicious.. sounding pedal, probably the next best thing to the Microcosm Hologram that I've heard, but the Hologram is next level stuff... The only problem (apart from the price) is trying to get hold of one..!!!
I have it towards the end of my effects loop, but before my reverb as feeding the reverb with grains has more interest effect than the other way around.
I am Groot. A stereo output with programming shouldn’t make it any bigger. Imagine if you could save your favourite preset of each program to the program button. Do a little dance on the switches and you’d be right back to inventing the next Guillermo Del Toro sound track.
Baby Groot stole a season worth of fertilizer outta my shed!! But I won’t hold it against these salty sea dogs and their groovy granular Grogu approved delay. Shoe gaze at Will ya filthy sea dogs ( not to be confused with beach dogs) .

Walrus is really shifting gears into a new era. Really excited to see what more they have in store. Lovely textures as always, Andy! I am Grootified.

Ok, I need to feed this pedal into the lore ... and reach new states of mind!
id like to hear lore and fable together
Great review! Picked up this pedal a few months back, as well as Lore, and should be releasing some jams in 2024 using them. I am Groot!
This is definitely a pedal that we would use and enjoy playing. Thank you for going into detail with every setting. Great demo/ review!

Sounds like a lot of fun. Similarly, the Red Panda Particle and Raster pedals do interesting granular delay sounds with the ability to hold/loop.
Dude your videos the best on this pedal hands down

Wow! Great sounding pedal, and I agree: it needs to be stereo -- that kind of motion would put it right over the top. And, yeah...

It looks and sounds very interesting. Not sure I can figure out how to use it in a song but I’d like to play around with it because I am Groot.
I think it could BE the song. Maybe not a rock song but certainly would go nicely underneath some high gain lead lines
Great review. Reminds me a lot of my Maneco Labs Small Nimbus pedal. Cheers 🤙🏼

I would argue that this is the greatest pedal since the Univibe or Boss Chorus or Mood 1. Srsly
as far as the fun factor goes, which pedal do you prefer more, the Fable or the Lore?
Most certainly the Fable. The Lore is beautiful but the Fable challenges me more
How does it compare to the stereo Red Panda Particle 2?
