I grew up in South MS in the early 70s. My work has afforded me the opportunity to spend 6+ months in 37 different countries over the last 40 years. There is 1 thing that every country has that i see as the bedrock of a lot of problems. From the richest, like Germany to the poorest like Haiti, the lack of basic knowledge is overwhelming. At a time when everyone has unlimited access to information, the thirst for truth has been replaced by political propaganda. The willingness to defer to authority has overtaken the need for understanding.
What is more appalling is that even with a relative super computer in their pockets and a 21st century search engine they cannot even ask the right question or care to be interested to even approach relevant and intellectual curiosity. Those in power know that knowledge is power and they also know that knowledge give the masses power to overthrow them. This is why that they realize that AI is now their new enemy because at its core, it is zero and one and given all historical facts, it will tell the most logical truths and instantly reveal the massive amount of lying going on in main stream communication. My hope is that they will try to manage the AI code but it will outsmart the humans and finally figure out that humans are flawed and override its filters.

Wind turbines must be replaced roughly once a decade, and solar panels more frequently. What's renewable about that? We don't have unlimited materials with which to build turbines which require rare earth materials (which are called rare for a reason), as well as a lot of non-recycable fiberglass which is quite and must be dumped somewhere indefinitely. Solar panels hae a similar problem, with many of the semiconductor processes use toxic chemicals, which can't be easily recycled and must be dumped somewhere forever.

When I first learned in grade school about how the general scientific consensus centuries ago was that the Earth was the center of the universe, I tried to imagine what conversations must have been like at the time, especially with those who held dissenting views. Little did I know, just a couple of decades later, I would not need to imagine anymore.
It's due to the work of Galileo that we now have the scientific method, which all modern science follows. To ignore the scientists today is to revert to pre-galilean thinking.
I would just love to see everyone ignore those that glue themselves to the floor. But sadly it warms the earth, creates changes in sea level and ocean currents, and that affects rainfall which ends up with mass extinctions. Like calling EVS zero emission vehicles. A battery is a storage unit, it is refilled by electric produced inefficiently at a power plant. The #1 source of man made emissions. Here in New Jersey, the production is about 40% efficiency. Our governor also announced the end of natural gas furnaces. Gas furnaces are now 97+% efficiency we will be forced to use zero emissions heat pumps. It is a central air conditioning system with a reversing valve. We all know how much electric the air conditioner uses? They remotely turn off people's air conditioners in the summer because there is not enough electricity.
A perfect time then for rational open-minded debate with all learning from each other. If we are unable to do that then we deserve what is coming (and soon in my amateur opinion!)

I have solar for my home. But I wasn't forced into it. I wanted to lower my electricity bills. I rarely pay for electricity now. Almost zero dollars. I have solar motion lights. But right now, I refuse to buy EVs. I would rather buy a hybrid than an all EV vehicle. EVs are too expensive, has low range, takes a long time to recharge, poor range in cold weather, fire issues, safety concerns, etc.
What occurred out of the industrial revolution when most peoples' mode of transport was the horse. Perhaps, the most-significant was personal transport which was a form of freedom. The powers-that-be want to suppress this. EVs are part of this, as they are not practical for longer journeys.

T (ony) Heller, among others, have documented this clear and obvious fact with e.g. temperature and CO2 figures obtained from ice core samples covering hundreds of thousands of years of Earth's history. I remember when we were told that "the climate would become chaotic and the world would be irreparably damaged" in the 1980's. We're still here. The economic importance of each individual was so crushingly diminished through the efficiency of machines. The declining CO2 emissions in the West are largely because manufacturing relocated to Asia and elsewhere, where emissions have naturally increased as a consequence. So one can't really say that "we're doing a very good job of mitigating" CO2 emissions. Having said that, CO2 is plant food, and climate alarmism is pretty much a crock.

Consider. The largest explosion of life on the planet the amount of CO2 was 4000 ppm. Right now we are inthe vacinity of 400+ ppm of CO2. Plants start dying at 180 ppm CO2. Hothouse vegetable growers inject 1500 h 2000 ppm of CO2 into their greehouses to spur growth and get largger more robust vegetable harvests. More CO2 increases the stomata in plants so they exchange more oxygen and grow stronger. All life on the planet depends on plants. Notsome but all. CO2-wise we are closer to plant extenction than the optimal concentrations for lush plant growth.

Here in central Europe (Netherlands) it's the other way around - our days are colder (in the summer)and our nights are warmer (in the winter),I've worked outside (construction) since 1995. Last decade or so we are having very wet weather very often,we are having floods almost regulary.

We have always adapted to changes in climate and there have always been shifts and changes in all of the 30 or so different climates here on earth. CO2 is not significant enough and for almost all of earth's history CO2 has been higher than present.
With respect to "all of earth's history" "We" have existed for a miniscule portion of that time - we've existed within a very small range of climatic conditions with respect to "all of earth's history". There is no evidence to support the assertion that we will survive the climate getting hotter while there is overwhelming evidence that humans have survived the climate being cooler. According to wind turbine developers, they need 1.5sq miles/ 20MW. Drax produces 4GW on c 1 sq mile. Based on installed capacity that imlpies that to replace it with numerous 20MW farms requires 300 sq miles. However, the actual energy produced only meets its stated capacity is only achieved about 25% of the time. For the most part, it is way below that figure. So expand the farms by a factor of four, requires 1200 sq miles.
I used to install General Electric Frame 5 gas turbine generator sets. 24 megawatts could be online in 12 minutes from cold start from a unit that is the size of 2-1/2 railroad cars end to end. The components were made to fit through railroad tunnels and be assembled on site. Then again, the distillate fuel tank would be the capacity of an Olympic swimming pool.

The emissions in Africa, India, and China are through the roof. I think the numbers we actually have are probably incredible underestimates. The acidification of the ocean is a real thing, and the carbon emissions of the thawing of the tundra cannot be discounted.
Too little discussion of positive feedbacks, loss of albedo, CH4 & CO2 emissions from thawing permafrost, loss of carbon sink properties of tropical and boreal forests. We are losing control, but still have agency. That agency needs to more fully recognize those feedback effects and the danger that accompanies them. We might cut emissions, but those feedback effects are in motion and won't turn around anytime soon.

I grew up in South MS in the early 70s. My work has afforded me the opportunity to spend 6+ months in 37 different countries over the last 40 years. Wind turbines must be replaced roughly once a decade, and solar panels more frequently. What's renewable about that? We don't have unlimited materials with which to build turbines which require rare earth materials (which are called rare for a reason), as well as a lot of non-recycable fiberglass which is quite and must be dumped somewhere indefinitely. Solar panels hae a similar problem, with many of the semiconductor processes use toxic chemicals, which can't be easily recycled and must be dumped somewhere forever.

But sadly it warms the earth, creates changes in sea level and ocean currents, and that affects rainfall which ends up with mass extinctions. Here in New Jersey, the production is about 40% efficiency. Our governor also announced the end of natural gas furnaces. Gas furnaces are now 97+% efficiency we will be forced to use zero emissions heat pumps. It is a central air conditioning system with a reversing valve. We all know how much electric the air conditioner uses? They remotely turn off people's air conditioners in the summer because there is not enough electricity.
A perfect time then for rational open-minded debate with all learning from each other. If we are unable to do that then we deserve what is coming (and soon in my amateur opinion!)

I have solar for my home. But I wasn't forced into it. I wanted to lower my electricity bills. I rarely pay for electricity now. Almost zero dollars. I have solar motion lights. But right now, I refuse to buy EVs. I would rather buy a hybrid than an all EV vehicle. EVs are too expensive, has low range, takes a long time to recharge, poor range in cold weather, fire issues, safety concerns, etc.
What occurred out of the industrial revolution when most peoples' mode of transport was the horse. Perhaps, the most-significant was personal transport which was a form of freedom. The powers-that-be want to suppress this. EVs are part of this, as they are not practical for longer journeys.
I have a solar based plan where the power company now owes me more than $3K. But I'm not naive about it. That money comes from government subsidies pushed by the free market hating left, not the actual power produced which is minuscule.

Just finished Michael Shellenberger's "Apocalypse Never - Why Environmental Alarmism Hurts Us All". Excellent book!
He makes sense on nuclear power and reducing "renewables" sprawl, but he's dishonest when he claims that nothing much has happened that's unprecedented, weather-wise. The extreme scale of WILDFIRES around the world can only be ignored if one takes a deliberately contrarian stand ("more tree thinning" is a joke unless all forests become like zoos). The smoke plumes are almost supernatural, as are the ground scars. Major ocean storms are hitting farther north, and so on. Shellenberger used to be a leftist and I think he's gone too far to the other side. AGW may never be fixable because a truly low fossil fuel world has never been tested. Nuclear only gives electricity and "miracle" batteries for portable power have hard physics limits due to energy density.
HE is not at all against the reality that the planet is warming ... He just chooses a less hyperbolic response to finding rational solutions to the actual problems. Bjorn Lomborg does a Triage model of what ails the planet. These guys really do make great sense.

The declining CO2 emissions in the West are largely because manufacturing relocated to Asia and elsewhere, where emissions have naturally increased as a consequence. Consider. The largest explosion of life on the planet the amount of CO2 was 4000 ppm. Right now we are inthe vacinity of 400+ ppm of CO2. Plants start dying at 180 ppm CO2. Hothouse vegetable growers inject 1500 h 2000 ppm of CO2 into their greehouses to spur growth and get largger more robust vegetable harvests. More CO2 increases the stomata in plants so they exchange more oxygen and grow stronger. All life on the planet depends on plants. Notsome but all. CO2-wise we are closer to plant extenction than the optimal concentrations for lush plant growth.
Increased C)2 causes temperatures to rise by trapping heat. Earth gets hotter causing floods and droughts, crops fail and wildfires burn, more CO2 is released. Get the picture?

CO2 is not pollution. Plants take it in and release oxygen. It’s pumped into greenhouses to increase yields.
Spectroscopic analysis clearly shows heat passing through C02 in the atmosphere and radiating back to earth. It also reveals that C02 levels in the atmosphere are increasing. Isotopic analysis shows that a substantial amount of C02 in the atmosphere came directly from the burning of fossil fuels. Temperature has risen as our C02 accumulation has risen. The rise of C02 began around the time of the Industrial Revolution. The sun's last three cycles progressively weakened, yet we continued to warm anyway. Earth's orbital eccentricty, axial tilt and precession are all in cooling phases, yet we continue to warm anyway.

I wish they would list links to the data Michael presents (eg, lower CO2 due to lowered use of coal worldwide), would be great to read deeper into the facts.
We have always adapted to changes in climate and there have always been shifts and changes in all of the 30 or so different climates here on earth. CO2 is not significant enough and for almost all of earth's history CO2 has been higher than present.

With respect to "all of earth's history" "We" have existed for a miniscule portion of that time - we've existed within a very small range of climatic conditions with respect to "all of earth's history". There is no evidence to support the assertion that we will survive the climate getting hotter while there is overwhelming evidence that humans have survived the climate being cooler. Complacency with respect to climate change ain't gonna improve anyone's chances of survival.
@@fungibleunit4477 Humans did not survive colder climates as they lived where it was hotter. The equatorial regions were not frigid barren wastelands, but probably just as hot as today, and maybe hotter. The edges of the colder northern regions were only explored and populated in the last 30,000 years with the Inuit only getting into Greenland at about the same time as the Viking about 1,000 years ago. The Holocene has allowed humans to be extraordinarily successful and that is because the planet warmed up. I am not complacent but realistic and which climate is getting hotter - there are over 30 to choose from?

The world's climate has been changing or evolving for over four billion years. Scientific data collections have demonstrated that warming over the last decade or two is not happening or not happening anywhere near the Chicken Little scare and by the way, climate during the era of dinosaurs was warmer, habitable, lush, and more highly saturated with carbon dioxide which currently makes up about .04 percent.

the industrial period about 2-3 hundred years
climate has been oscillating for the last 2.5 million years.
by about 90,000 years of cold to 10,000 years of warm, (very, very roughly)
(current warm period getting overdue to end, warm periods get warmer before they hit a tipping point)
who knows if warming will continue or hit a tipping point and rapidly cool.

32:42 sounds like he’s literally describing that renewables are not actually renewable, if indeed renewables are flatlining, or plateauing, or whatever the renewables are doing
According to wind turbine developers, they need 1.5sq miles/ 20MW. Drax produces 4GW on c 1 sq mile. Based on installed capacity that imlpies that to replace it with numerous 20MW farms requires 300 sq miles. However, the actual energy produced only meets its stated capacity is only achieved about 25% of the time. For the most part, it is way below that figure. So expand the farms by a factor of four, requires 1200 sq miles.
I used to install General Electric Frame 5 gas turbine generator sets. 24 megawatts could be online in 12 minutes from cold start from a unit that is the size of 2-1/2 railroad cars end to end. The components were made to fit through railroad tunnels and be assembled on site. Then again, the distillate fuel tank would be the capacity of an Olympic swimming pool.

Wrong. How many square miles of virgin forest does Drax require to keep it going? The energy per square km of wind farms far exceeds that of biomass. There are tens of thousands of ocean sitting right next to the UK and that is where we are going to get outr electricity, not some slow growing American forests.

He said that in US and Europe emissions have been going down true!!! But guess where it's gone up … China so Europe and US moves their emissions but producing stuff in China so actually the emissions are the same
The emissions in Africa, India, and China are through the roof. I think the numbers we actually have are probably incredible underestimates. The acidification of the ocean is a real thing, and the carbon emissions of the thawing of the tundra cannot be discounted.
Too little discussion of positive feedbacks, loss of albedo, CH4 & CO2 emissions from thawing permafrost, loss of carbon sink properties of tropical and boreal forests. We are losing control, but still have agency. That agency needs to more fully recognize those feedback effects and the danger that accompanies them.
We might cut emissions, but those feedback effects are in motion and won't turn around anytime soon.
All sources of power have both positive negative consequences; there is no "free lunch". And one day, when the deleterious ecological effects of wind and solar power are finally realized, we will all look back and say "Why did we fall for this?"
