My question is how do you protect all those separate gardens along the fence? Some of them not in greenhouses. Wouldn't one green house be easier to protect from the weather? Especially since it would be easier to heat if necessary. Wishing you the best on your garden. The weather has been awful.

When finished, the unprotected gardens will hold tougher plants like our strawberry beds. The greenhouses will hold sensitive plants and have their own heating and watering systems.

With the price of fuel going up, maybe get off the tractor when scooping and shovel more into the scoop so you haul more?

Its not easy to do on camera, but yes that is what we do. Gas has not changed much here at all. The tractor is very efficient. I am more concerned about my time right now.

Wow that tractor is so cool! When we find our property I hope we can find an old tractor like this- can you attatch something on the front where you can plow snow?

    • @TheDoItYourselfWorld

I really love it. With these tractors most implements are attached to the back. There is a back blade you can use for snow. Or get a front loader for it and scoop up the snow.

That tractor is so cool! There was just a Ford 2N for sale here. Isn't that the smallest they made? I am only watching pictures of them, but it looks like it could be the same size as Massey Ferguson Tea - TE20 (Made by Harry Ferguson and called the little grey Fergie). What is the Massey Ferguson called in the same size as the Ford 8N, do you know?
Be aware that the mulch will make the soil more acidic, and many plants don't like acidic soil.
Edit: Ford 2N was actually the predecessor of Ford 8N. Because of the war, some Ford 2N's had all steel wheels and no starter battery. It had a magneto ignition system and had to be started with a hand crank :-)

I have never seen a 2N myself but the 8 and 9N tractors are all over the place in Michigan. I am not familiar with the Massey tractors but there is one that is very small and cute I would love to have. They are quite expensive tho cause of their cute look. I forgot the model. The old Ford tractors are my favorite.

The 2N replaced the 9N, and the 2N was replaced by the 8N. Ford just made minor improvements to the tractor when they brought out the 2N to replace the 9N. FYI, the 9N is called that because they were introduced in 1939, the 2N came out in 1942, while the 8N - 1948. The 8N had the most improvements, but when compared side by side, you have to know what the differences are to tell a 8N from a 2N, and it's even harder to tell a 2N from a 9N. The 2N gets mistaken for a 9N a lot, basically because they are so similar and because both the 2N and 9N serial numbers start with "9N". The Ferguson came out in 1946 and since the Fords used the Ferguson System for the 3 point lift, that system was on the Ferguson tractors as well. It's hard to tell a Ferguson from a Ford to some people. See this video for clarifications of the tractors and their differences: ua-cam.com/video/1I9eSX_kHCc/v-deo.html

@@TheDoItYourselfWorld - I know the Ford 3000 are having clutch problems when they get older, but nothing you couldn't handle if you had to, I am sure. They just break the tractor in two in the middle, replace what needs to be replaced on the clutch and screw the tractor together in one piece again. It was quite hilarious to watch :-)

Yes, then I am sure I have seen a not of 2N models and thought they were 9N at the time. It is hard to tell the difference between them all. I have found a few key points that I look at to identify them.

Love it! We had a ‘52 8-N. With that same attachment among so many others. They made all kinds of attachments for those old work horses. Cars came and went, but it’s the tractor my husband and I miss most. 💕
