Very nice. I’ve owned a LOT of Martins over the last 10 years. I now own one. This same custom shop authentic D-28. I got the aged version because of the neck. It’s the best Martin I’ve owned. The adjustable truss rod on an authentic is a really worthwhile addition.
Hey Dillon, I agree . I prefer the sound of this one to the madi guatemalen Authentics. I compared them. But at the moment I am happy with my CS 21-11. Cheers from Germany.
I have demoed many of the D-28 Authentic's and aged and CS guitars. The first thing I will say is they are light as a feather, but tone is subjective and for my money I prefer Martins D-28 Marquis. From my experience the Authentic's sound muffled or over humidified. Now, I love how the aged version feels with the rounded off fret board edge it's as comfortable of a guitar can be. Adirondack tops do take time to open up so as these start to show up on the used market I will be eager to demo them again. But it has a tall order to surpass the tone of my Marquis. We as the consumer have a great opportunity to find the D-28 that fit's your preference's with so many variations of the D-28 that have been made past and present.
Aged version is too warm. That's why I stuck with the unaged version. Particularly on the 000-28. It's more versatile and has more sparkle. The aged is unnecessary and makes it too warm I disagree about the Marquis. They're built superior. And I like the Marquis. But these guys are very open. Thinner tops, thinner finish, hide glue, authentic bracing. As opposed to just GE bracing, normal thickness top, etc.
I wasn’t expecting to hear rocky raccoon on this video 😂 I love the pale top, and the tone when you play open chords is amazing. You mentioned that it’s cheaper than a standard D28, how much does it cost to get a custom guitar from one of these shops?
Great review! These are super cool guitars. When you were picking one out, were you able to compare this to the aged versions? Did you also find much variation between the different guitars in the same series?
I prefer the unaged in the 000-28. IDC what anyone says. Aged isn't as loud. Not as sparkly. Not as versatile imo. Too old timey on a 000-28. Takes away from what makes a 000-28 a 000-28. You might feel differently idk. But a 000 is already warm enough
It really does that perfect cowboy campfire guitar sound to it! I’m a bit more into finger-picking though. Do you have any personal preference for a certain type of guitar for when you have some string plucking to do?
Martin is going to change up their guitars regularly. What is the thing this year won't be the thing next year. A wider neck today won't be as desirable 5 years from now. The point is that Martin has been in business long enough to know how any change effects their guitars. Many of the changes are not a matter of better or not, but of difference and promoting the difference. Twenty years ago, slimmer necks were the thing. If you wanted a 28 that is how they came. Availability of woods also plays into what is the guitar of today. Twenty years ago east Indian rosewood was the replacement for the scarce Brazilian rosewood. Now it is rosewood from Madagascar. Martin's job is to make and sell guitars. Their guitars may have a 75 to 100 year life span if well cared for. So changes are made not so much out of necessity, but the need to get you to buy guitars.
They already have a wide selection of models and neck widths. Ans Indian is still my preference over Madagascar. Imo Madagascar sounds nothing like Brazilian. Ans is already hard to get now too from deforestation
I've definitely heard of them. I only wish I could afford one.
anyone can easily get this...they just dont wanna do what it takes
9:00 Great sound! Would be perfect for classic rock songs. Love this new page. Have a great week, friend.

It's cheaper than a Authentic D28.

The Om-28 is my favorite for this.
The 000-28 Custom Authentic 1937 version of this is a monster for finger picking. Personally my favorite
