I find it funny that when people say "movies" they mean adult or family movies, and you should say "movies for children". Whereas with cartoons it's the other way around, you have to specify "cartoon for adults"
i never watched veggie tales. but found out the creator has a youtube channel recently and its not bad. way more smart and progressive than most Christian content these days.
I haven't seen a lot of adult animated TV, but I just feel like that adult animation tends to lean way too much on the sex and violence jokes and things that are considered inappropriate by the general public. I mean, just because a certain cartoon is for adults only doesn't necessarily mean that it needs to have sex and violence jokes and inappropriate things. Heck, I believe that adult animation has a lot more potential than how it was in the past. It can explore various real life experiences and other topics and stuff like that, but it doesn't have to lean way to hard on the sex and violence and inappropriate jokes. I also believe that adult animation can explore so many various art forms and styles that audiences will definitely fall in love. Well, this isn't to say that shows like Family Guy and South Park are utter garbage. I'm just saying that adult animation has so much more potential than all the crass and vulgar sex and violence jokes like how it was in the past. But if they need sex and violence references for various contexts and purposes, then that's fine with me. I'm just saying that adult animation should learn to expand outside of the sex and violence tropes. I mean, as I have said before, just because something is for adults doesn't necessarily mean it needs to have crass and vulgar jokes to make it look adult. I just think that the animation industry needs to start redefining what "adult animation" really is. Edit: As uncomfortable as I could get about the sex and violence and inappropriate tropes, I believe that adult animation has a lot more potential than those tropes. I believe that adult animation can encourage individual creative freedom and finding new art styles and animation styles and finding diverse stories and all that instead of being controlled by the corporate companies who believes that adult animation must stick to the sex and violence tropes.
Though I wonder how we can change or at least explore adult animation more. I mean my question is why does something have to be edgy or morally grey to be adult like positive messages are “childish” like I don’t get that. Why does adult animation have to take its self so seriously that it’s always hyper violence and dark topics as if that s the only thing to talk about or desired by adults. I know ghibli is a cough out but the way in some films they handle topics or its attention to detail to the beautiful mundane really connects with me more as an adult. Idk just my two cents.
@@flowerbloom5782I guess maybe we can learn from anime. I don’t know how to say this but maybe anime as a whole can show what adult animation can be. I think maybe we just need to take more risks and find out. Idk
Hey Toniko, been following your channel for a long time now and I just gotta say it's awesome seeing your name attached to all these big projects, really happy for you. And thanks for sharing all this knowledge with us that you pick up along the way.
Thank you for sharing your professional experience in animation. These insights mean the world to me as someone who still has hope of becoming an animator one day🙏💖
I move between jobs like this too! I've always wanted to move from adult shows to kids though, and haven't been able to yet. (Just rolled off VELMA at WB so I'm really hoping I'll end up on some kind of child-centric property soon)
I like adult animation...but sometimes they overcompensate with so much sexual stuff. It's like they have an "adult” meter they have to hit. I actually find that to be childish.
It is ironic isn't it. I remember moving away from "kid" shows and was so refreshing seeing some actual violence and other adult elements. After a while I noticed a lot of adult shows seemed to go to the other extreme and it really did like they were overcompensating trying to be "mature." The constant swearing, and cynical deaths just felt unneeded. I think Arcane did it very well. It felt very mature while not being overindulgent. I also been flocking to more slice of life shows (mostly in anime) with adult themes. Stuff like Aggrestsuko and The Way of the Househusband come to mind. I also think the newly released Pokémon Concierge would fit too.
most recruiters in major studios are (and should) be respectful of NDAs. Most of them understand its crucial for finding work. That's why you see password protected portfolios from artists .
I think a great story artists is one that’s able to do a fantastic job on many different styles, and I think you’re definitely one of them. And btw do you ever plan on doing a storyboarding course? If not what course would you recommend?
Considering it’s highly competitive, pay is meh not Hollywood actor pay and u can potentially not be in a job for very very very long stretches of time. No idea how u handle it mentally

My favorite cartoons are "cartoons for adults and kids" :)
Have a nice day, whoever is reading this!
My favorite movies ever are animated.

@@joenoodle6914I reserve your good day for future use. If you like, I will give it to somebody else.
I loved blue eye samurai the artstyle and the action was really good.
Dude your intro is the stuff good vibes are made of, so cute
Funny timing, Veggie Tales was my childhood but I just watched Blue Eye Samurai and really enjoyed it.

I couldn't agree more with this.

Wow ❤ i loved Blue Eye samurai
OMG one of my teachers showed us This series today!! We didnt finish the first episode tho . 😮
When I was watching that scene of invincible fighting that beast I just KNEW you worked on it. I just knew it was Tonikos work
Awesome work as always Toniko Pantoja❤
Whoooooo!!!! I saw veggietales and was immediately hooked! Great stuff, now I'm going to check out Blue eyed samurai!
Amazing work. Blue Eye Samurai is my favorite show this year
I move between jobs like this too! I've always wanted to move from adult shows to kids though, and haven't been able to yet. (Just rolled off VELMA at WB so I'm really hoping I'll end up on some kind of child-centric property soon)
oh dear god you poor thing
You worked on VeggieTales?
I used to watch those videos all the time!

"Haha sex funny" has the same energy as "haha poopy funny"
yeah when you give people the ability to do something that they previously couldn't, they tend to overuse it.
It's why I like shows like bojack horseman. It doesn't over compensate with tasteless jokes
Like the only purpose of adult animation is to be adult and nothing else
It is ironic isn't it.

veggietales is GOAT!
For your internal reel - the one that you sent to Netflix - are you allowed to use NDA work that you did in your latest job for Netflix?
most recruiters in major studios are (and should) be respectful of NDAs. Most of them understand its crucial for finding work. That's why you see password protected portfolios from artists .
How do you break in?? 1 year away from finishing college and kind of lost on how to move forward.
What software do you use for storyboarding?
I think a great story artists is one that’s able to do a fantastic job on many different styles, and I think you’re definitely one of them. And btw do you ever plan on doing a storyboarding course? If not what course would you recommend?
Hey can u givee tv paint for free please 😭😭😭😭🥺🥺
Randomly showed up here to just say I'm making a cell animation and then just not elaborate ever
Genndy Tartakovsky had the same thing.
VeggieTales gaaang 🍅🥒
I just have to say it:
Tonko Pant.
Oh where... is my hairbrush?!
Before I click on play I thought you meant hentai....
thats a way many industry professionals cut their teeth is my understanding.
I bet you're board all the time.

Hello, I want to become a 3D animator, how can I get a project or portray myself, who am I and what do I know?
Considering it’s highly competitive, pay is meh not Hollywood actor pay and u can potentially not be in a job for very very very long stretches of time. No idea how u handle it mentally
Fuck that’s crazy that u have to go from job to job consistently.
Must be nerve racking.
