Emergency Restoration: Tigertail & Sand Dollar Island's Battle Against Mother Nature

- The strip of beach between Tigertail and Sand Dollar Island is one of the most beautiful stretches of beach Marco has to offer. Boat there or walk there if you have to, it's worth is. Hurricane Idalia breached the restoration project that was completed earlier this year. It wasn't by much, but it does require what the city council called "emergency repairs". I appreciate the rapid response to repair it.

Thanks for the update! Glad to see they are fixing the damage from the storm. Great flying and drone shots!
Strangely relaxing
I'll take that! LOL
Wind and water can do a lot of damage. Just look at John's Pass the opening between Treasure Island and Madera Beach in Pinellas County that Pass was opened by a hurricane many years ago. Beautiful white sand....what our West Coast Beaches are known for. Takes big machinery and hours of manpower to undo what Mother Nature has done.
Unfortunately, they are going to have to do this again after that last weird storm system we had. Merry Christmas to you and yours Tom!
I hope you had a Merry Christmas as well. Ours was great. Yes, it will have to be an ongoing process. I read an article where they acknowledged that. That's a favorite spot for us to go in our little 15 foot center console. It's very protected water on the inland side and makes for an easy beaching. Plus, it's quiet there!
@@evolutionaryTom we did. Thanks, Tom! Definitely one of my favorite beaches to walk
Thanks for the update. Hoping Tiger Tail stays above water! What drone were you flying?
Hello James. Hope you'll be back on the island sailing soon. Currently, I have the Mini 3 Pro and was using a ND32 filter. -Tom
Tom, is the lagoon side fresh water? If so, does it get stinky from being stagnant and having no in or outlet? What happens if it rains a lot?
Pedro, It's all salt water. At the end of Sand Dollar Island it opens up to the entrance from the Gulf to the Marco River, which is a salt water river that takes you around the north side of the island. They actually dredged it out this year so that the water in Tigertail lagoon could get exchanged during the tidal flows, to prevent it from smelling like a swamp. I don't think excessive rain affects it, just the storms. But I'm not the expert. -Tom
@@evolutionaryTom Thanks, you made it crystal clear, Just the waters off Marco Island.
