This is a fun tutorial. I'm following along for my first Primaris Chaplain. Swapping out a few colors.herr and there. Using blue for the crozius padding since my space dudes are blue/orange themed. Experimented with Scale 75 inks instead of Strong Tones for the leather. I like it.
Lotta good methods in this one, but I especially like the leather robe technique and color. I think that looks very grimdark, and I want to use something like that on my next army.
Love it! Great paint job Vertisee, the steps to painting the leather finishes, both the coat and holster colours really work and look way cool IMHO. I particularly liked the method you use for the bolter pistol shroud, I've seen you use that technique on a regular basis with just that hint of colour followed by a complimentary wash, just really works. Great stuff brother, keep up the great work!
Cool how many colors you ended up using and still having a gritty looking finished product when you might otherwise be tempted to go really muted tones
Hey, When i start dry brushing with a clean brush i will dip the tip of the brush in the paint and use a napkin or rag to brush the wet paint until its nice and dry but still able to gradually build color, once i am finished with that color i will use a solution mix of 1:1 water/ iso alcohol to soak my brush in and i will do the same thing dry the brush off on napkin by bating it back and forth until no more pigment is bleeding out and the brush is clean to get it to a nice dry state again to use next color i will use my pants to bat until its nice and dry or a more rigid cloth, paint will still build up within the bristles on the brush, but for my more expensive brushes i want to keep straight i will use a brush cleaner soap to get the paint out but i only use it after i am finished painting for the day, cause it takes a bit to get the residue out of the bristles. for the most part i use cheap nylon bristle cheap pack of brushes you can get from walmart, they have a flat brush variety pack that i like and i'm not too worried with these getting messed up, and i kind of like with they start feathering out, when it comes to texturing a surface, I like the subsurface scattering i get with them, and the randomness to it.
When a copper starts turning green in places that’s patina. Sweet paint job
Yeah man that leather effect is killer.
thank you!
Genuinely looks great and is a good demonstration of techniques
Awesome tutorial! So glad I found this. Thanks for sharing! Dry brushing is a winner on the chaplain. Looks fantastic!!
that leather recipe is the BOMB, great effect for such little work, definitely stealing that. THANKS!

Thank you man! yea have been practicing and building on previous works recipes for leather, and wanted to do a model with a little more detail.
Really like, how good the orange blends into the violett on the bolter
Thank you! Yea after the purple wash it really tied it together.
Cool how many colors you ended up using and still having a gritty looking finished product when you might otherwise be tempted to go really muted tones
absolutely awesome, so many easy techniques with a great effect! What brushes do you use for drybrushing? and how do you clean them in between colors?

Vertisee Models thanks so much for the advice. I noted it down!
what the power scale of Primaris compare to primarch or powerful chaos leader like Abaddon ?
