As discussed in the last part of this video, lighting changed the way I view the world. Has it for you? Do you stop and snap a quick iPhone shot when the light is falling nice on a particular object on the street? Let me know!🙌🏼
Oh yes. It's fun to play with when I do street photography 🤓
Helpful instruction, thank you! I was wondering what was your white balance on the camera? It seems like the image is very orange overall. Was the key light the only light that was set to daylight and everything else was around 3,200k?
Why are you wearing a hat indoors
Because my head is cold
I kinda liked the lighting at 12secs 🤣
Its not bad indeed. I remember when I was editing, I kinda thought it looked good too😂
I liked it in the opening shot 😅
i've watched hundereds of videos about lighting. This is absolutely curshes all. You have huge potential just keep going
Thanks so much man. This means a LOT! For real!!
So awesome. I love how you turn off all the sources and then bring them back up one by one. Great way to show it all happening, especially with the accompanying floor plan imagery. Please keep these going. I'm sure your subscribers will continue to grow. excellent content.
Thanks mate! This detailed stuff is something I enjoy a lot myself so for sure you will see them more often on the channel!
Proud to be an early sub. You’re about to blow up. Mark my words 👊🏽
Clean style, valuable info, well presented.
Damn dude. This means a lot, you know? Thank you SO much!
As I learn more about lighting, it interests me greatly, especially since color is a part of that, really adding to how a context/mood can be set with color and light intensity. Great video.
Tell me pls, I don’t speak English, I didn’t get it maybe. How much “K” in the KEY LIGHT?)🤔
i liked 1:52
how to record like the opening? the first few seconds. just one light .
Thank you for the awesome tips.
Lights are super important. I just upgraded mine and it make the image look so much better!
Thats great stuff mate! Lighting would be one of the main things I’d change from a budget level to a higher level because of skintone rendition and color accuracy!
This video is soooo good! I love how you SHOW Frank moving the light. It lets you know "where" to place your key light, to get the desired look you're after... vs just "roughly 45 degrees." LOL Great Content. 👍
Thanks a lot dude!!
Please share how to make an entire scene look a lot brighter 😅 I need some help with this 😂
i came here from Facebook because i really liked the "flat manipulated" photo
Cheers mate! Glad you went and watched the video!
Great value!!!! Many thanks for this video. Very pleasant background. Very pleasant YOU.
So nice of you!
Once again great content. Precise. I am glad to see that you have been gaining some traction in the last couple of weeks! Well deserved.
Thanks a lot Thomas. It blows my mind so the the amount of people seeing my content! 😅
Underrated channel! Awesome videos man! Subscribed!
Thanks so much!🙏🏼🙏🏼
Never, I repeat
Never,
Blur the bottom diagram ever again please 🙏🏼 🙏🏼
I kept trying to find where to look and never looked at the right part of it. Circle it, or find some other way to highlight certain aspects of it’s you may but please never again.
Please take it as constructive criticism.
I love feedback dude. Appreciate it a lot. Will NEVER blur it again! haha.
Thank you
You're welcome
awesome lighting man! Im trying to replicate exactly your setup. Question - which parabolic diffuser did you use to around the Goddard keylight? Happen to have the brand and model number?
I believe this was the cheapest quick setup 90cm para softbox from amazon. But the Aputure lightdome ii is a good choice. Fair price and good quality!
But how do you determine what camera settings and brightness to use in on the lights?
First, set your camera settings you want to shoot your project in. Then dial in the amount of light needed to achieve a good look.
Hey Great video and equipment! any more affordable main light options ?
Id say amaran 150!
Lekker zo doorgaan! :-)
Wow, This is my favorite lighting setup. It’s so… like Perfect bro lol. I want to purchase the exact Lut you used for this one, but don’t know which exact one you used.
On my store.sjoerdwess.com site, check BMD GEN5 lut
You hoped that this video was helful ? My man you juste broked down this like a goat , really apreciate , liked and sub bro 💪🏻
Appreciate the words bro!🙏🏼🙏🏼
Thank man. 🙏 I hope your channel will gain 1 million subscribers soon. 🙋♂️
Thank you so much. Lets hope so!
Dude! This is some high production quality! Just a video away from blowing up! Best of luck and thanks for this content!
Let's hope so man. But for now, I am more than happy with the massive results of this video. Thanks for your comment!
Great video man,
what software do you use for this 2D virtual lighting set up?
Photoshop. Film Set Objects :-)
Very helpful video, bro! Gratitude!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I liked your lighting setup and gear. Can you provide me the online consultancy to set up a masterclass?
I could! Send me an email please!
i truly truly appreciate tutorials like this. i appreciate the moving of the key light around to us what happens. great stuff man! if i may make one suggestion: when you want to highlight just one item in the diagram, you should perhaps have a red circle around it - the blurring of the rest of the diagram is fine, but a few times I couldn't tell what you wanted me to look at -- maybe I'm just going blind ha!
Carlo! Thanks a lot for the feedback. I actually appreciate it when people check my videos and help me get better at what I do. Next time ill try something different to make it more visible. I do agree it was pretty hard to see, haha :-)
Great video.
Light is the first and real and only thing that can arrive any image to our eyes.
Please, consider to do more video on light in the future. It's a very nice argument.
Thank a lot and happy new year 😊
LIGHTING is everything! I am learning and understanding this more & more through practical implementation. Excellent Video brother.
#RobbArmstrong
Thanks a lot my friend!🙏🏼
how did you get your godox to work with your c stand? a converter of some kind? or a boom arm? i'm trying to sort it out myself
Its called a spigot. Has screw ends on both sides!
GREAT VIDEO, especially for me, that I’m a rookie on this and planning to do my podcast also on video. Thanks!!!!
Cheer mate! Glad it was helpful
That gaff tape idea was great!! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks bro! Glad it inspired you hehe!
Small channel by the number of subscribers but BIG channel by the quality of the content. 👍
Thank you so much Joanna! Luckily the videos I make come from a deeper passion than my subscriber count, haha. Appreciate it!
love the warm glow of all your set ups. would really love to imitate this soon. what temperature range do you set them to?
Usually 3200k! Thanks dude!
I´m again stealing this 😅thanks for your feedback yesterday!
Anytime brother! You’re doing great!
@@SjoerdWess thank you, that means a lot to me!
Great video. Thank you for sharing
Cheers!
When you make the stripes on the back with shadows and lights! Try to move the light further away from the window so that the lines are straighter and don't have that cone effect! Greetings!
Mate I was in a flat :-p. This was already the max I could do on the balcony haha
@@SjoerdWess Ah oko I understand I understand! sorry haha
thank you! subscribed :)
Thanks for the sub!
Really nice work! Love the gaffer tape idea. I would use a gobo, but I love that you figured out a way to use a mirror that is so incredibly flexible!
Thanks so much man! A gobo is way easier, but a lot more expensive hehe
Thank you. This is a very helpful video.
Glad it was helpful!
Please let me know soo I buy it because your video quality is awesome
Thanks dude!
Thank you! Great video!
Glad you liked it!
I like these videos, they're quite good. Lol.
Cheers!
Man i wish i could send u this light set up i did. But thanks for this bro
Thanks dude!
Quality bro!
Thanks mate!
You are looking like Jim carrey in the thumnail image.
Haha thanks
What plug-in did you use in creating the light setup design
I used Filmsetobjects! But these days I use the tool inside Sidus Link app! :-)
Thxxxxxxx🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
hey very helpful I've been leaning more about light actually and def you did great love from west Africa
Cheers!
nice lighting. do you still use it?
I since moved to Amaran and Aputure lights. But the techniques remain the same!
Hey, what's the camera you use for these videos?
Blackmagic 6k! Now I shoot on Sony FX3!
Dude. This video was super helpful.
Cheers man!
That was awesome, man. Lights are almost everything! Thanks 🙏
Thanks Ruben! I totally agree. Lights are SO important! :-)
Two years after and still impactful. Thanks
Thanks a lot man!
Thanks for this cool video. I'm impressed by the output of the godox 150. Have you ever compared it to the apurture?
Thanks mate! I have, and surprisingly the output is a touch more. The quality is just as good.. :-)
@@SjoerdWess thanks for the reply. Considering the cheaper price, I will probably go with the godox. My UA-cam setup does need an upgrade. Keep up the good work. Subscribed
@@Youknowthebo I can absolutely recommend Godox, especially the newer models like the VL series or the SL mark 2’s. Thanks buddy!
Thank you very much Mr. Wess for your thorough straight to the point animated drawling.
Big ups Mr. Wess👍
Thanks!
What is the camera name that you used in this video
BMPCC 6K Pro
I’m learning to shape light, mostly for OCF portraits but i also do videography. I can safely say it’s the hardest thing about what we do, and sooo expensive too if you want to have full control of it. Thanks for this easy to understand tutorial!
Thanks a lot Jonathan! Appreciate it!
Thanks but why does no one talk about how to video food on black background? Cant find one video of it on youtube. Must be a secret in how to do the lighting 😢
Nahhhhh, thats a one light setup. Just try things out
@SjoerdWess I'm trying to make videos like this one: ua-cam.com/users/shortsJOS29aS8JJg?si=SQCO3CyG6kqmP9zD
It seems to be more than one light setup. It's crispy one the film but dark background. I've tried many lighting products and set ups and still can't work it out. Can you help?
Very cool! Thanks!
Glad you liked it!
This is great video. I'm total new in "lightning" BUT would like to start. What would you recommend me first to buy it, A. B. C, ... for good price and good quality (not pro) :). Thanks again.
Ivan! Thanks a lot!
I would suggest you look into the Godox lights. Like the. SL60W. There are newer versions on the market, which makes these very cheap. Get a nice softbox (or Ikea curtain) and go and play around :-). Next week Ill release a video on creating soft light on a budget. So stick around! :-)
@@SjoerdWess THANKS A LOT
My pleasure!
Thank you Sjoerd. just getting started with lighting and find this video very helpful
Glad it was helpful!
what is the light you use in the back to make the brighter scene? It's also just that one light there in the back to make it that much brighter or are there other lights off camera involved?
Hi man! This was the Godox SL something stick. not sure. but any stick light would be good. Now I'd choose the Aputure MT pro or Amaran tube light since I can use it on Bluetooth.
This light + the practical light (the one in the shot) does light up the scene significantly!
@@SjoerdWess oh wow that rectangle is a tube light with a rectangle softbox in front of it then?
Hello, I don't usually comment, but I liked the way you breaked it down. Big up man!!
Thanks a lot man! Means a lot :-)
What is the bet on the light called ASAP
Godox vl300
Loved this video Sjoerd! the mirror with gaff is so creative but you might want to take a look at the godox SA-17. Many Ortiz did a video on that one
Hi mate! Thanks! Yea, I’ve had one to borrow, it’s quite nice. Might get one to see its full potential!
Great video. I've been slowly learning how to light myself better, for UA-cam videos, and your tips here were to the point.
Great to hear! Cheers man!
I liked the first lighting setup bit not the second, as much. I feel the second was a bit flat.
Not much you can do with white walls and no depth. exactly the point of the video, heheh! Thanks dude
Bro your content is amazing and great quality i thought you have at least 2 million subscribers. Keep going 🤝🔥
Maybe one day! Thanks dude!
Wow! So good on behalf my wife
Cheers
Amazing bro!😁
Thanks mate
U filled the second frame with ur practical 😅 nice one
Not sure what you mean mate, haha
Straight to the point, loved that. Great content, bro.
Thanks a lot mate! Glad it was useful!
This video is everything I needed and only has 6 minutes. Thanks for sharing. Amazing content btw
Thanks a lot!
This what am looking for
Cheers man!
Again! such a good and original video
Thanks boys! Tof dat jullie dit checken :-)
Yes excellent points! The same look can be achieved with cheaper lights too
Thanks dude! And yes. Definitely.
very nice and well explained. I did help me with my light setting as I am a beginner. Thanks a lot men.
Great to hear! Good luck on your journey!🙏🏼🙏🏼
Its amazing video with pefect exmpels. Thank you a lot!
Thanks mate!❤️
thanx! wa pretty helpful!!!
Cheers!
Very very good information! Thank you!
Thanks man! Glad it was informative
Great video. What bulb did you use in the IKEA lamp?
Its an Ikea dimable light :-)
@@SjoerdWess Looks great. Thanks.
Nice!
nice video. only thing missing is a solid catch light (or two) in the eyes, would really help you shine and make the whole shot come alive.
I totally agree man. It's for a bit more of an in-depth video. I rather, when shooting a bigger project, like to use more lights anyway!
Like it! Thumbs up!😊
Thanks for the watch mate!
well explained
Cheers!
I was expecting overhead like the thumbnail hinted at but was disappointed you didn’t touch on it
Apologies for not matching your expectations
@@SjoerdWess no worries. Not much in top light resources, my expectations are to blame
@garretreed9709 might do one with this! Made a more recent video chatting about different sizes softboxes where I rig the softbox more overhead
Will keep my eyes open for it. Also although this video is 2 years old. I want to say I’m thankful you still manage your comments even after that much amount of time.
Awesome! Thanks!
Our pleasure
Thank you
You're welcome
great video! gave me some ideas, though i do wish you made it a little more details showing how you put the gaffer tape on the mirror etc and bounced the light off of it, would have been a nice addition
Thanks for the idea! I will include things like these next time🙏🏼🙏🏼
@@SjoerdWess maybe you can make a video separately about those little things like that 😊
Great tutorial, would love to learn more about that mirror technique!
Thanks man! Glad it was helpful!
Thank you, this video was very insightful.
Thanks man!
I think... that you're my favorite filmaker, that i can watch in youtube. Thank you for this amazing content.
Thanks a lot man! That does mean a lot!!
great video as always :) keep doing amazing job man
Thanks a lot mate! Glad you are sticking around
Awesome universal technique video! I'm not a photographer but a self-taught 3D creator with almost no knowledge of lighting, but this helped me so much to understand the theory.
Erika! Im glad you have found your way to my video. A basic understanding of lighting can definitely benefit you in your 3D modelling! Sounds good you've taught yourself. Thanks for watching!
Nice video man !
Thanks man!
Great setup and super helpful tips! Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Tof man goed bezig ook
Thanks man!🔥
I’m intrigued by it now. Freaking nice man 👍🧨
Thanks a lot!
