He took his sorrow and rage as a excuse to forfeit his duties and unjustly torture and punish the dead of the sea. He saw his own sorrow as a excuse to put it on to others. He’s tragic, but the truth is he is not what one should or automatically become in that situation.
That would have been cool and could have tied in the backstory of Jack's deal with him to be the captain of the Black Pearl. Basically would be a prequel to the first movie
Still does. A back story on him Calypso and Jack Sparrow. Which I think this whole series was more about Calypso getting back at Jones and using Jack as her instrument to do so. I feel like the black people who surrounded her water house were those she rescued from captivity and Jack helped. Perhaps that how Jack and Beckett crossed paths. Beckett knew a lot about the heart and his story fixes in there too. I think there’s a lot of economy in such a story.
This pierces my heart in every way. You can sincerely feel the emotional turmoil the character went through during the whole theme. I think Davy Jones transcribed his feelings for Calypso into the 5 stages of grief which can be perceived in this masterpiece : Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression and Acceptance.
When Jack, Elizabeth, and Norrington open the big chest/crate that Jones kept his heart’s chest inside of, you can see Elizabeth pick up an unopened letter, and below it are a stack of sealed letters…and dead flowers. Jones wrote love letters and tried to send them and flowers to his love, but as she was a goddess, there was nowhere to send them, and so he buried them when he cut out his heart, as evidently the pain of seeing the tokens he had tried to show his love for her with was too much to bear as well.

One of the greatest TV foes. We can debate his villainy or tragedy, he’s a formidable opponent. The acting, the cgi, the voice and the music are top tier. Genius move to give him an organ in the movie. He expresses so much emotion through it even when he’s not on screen.

When I think of the pacific coast and the Atlantic sea I get the same feeling as what I do listening to this suite. The world would be a wonderful and mysterious place if the seas and coasts had the same aesthetic as the more quit and soft parts of these songs.

And then disney pulled the revival card on him just like with palpatine. And with a reason so shitty i have a hard time believing someone genuinly came up with it. Sure breaking the trident broke the curse but this dude is dead. Hella dead. Heart stabbed and fell into a vortex dead.

4:35 always strikes me for whatever reason. Maybe because I know in the movie its inevitably leading to Bootstrap's discovery of Will on the Dutchman. His sheer shock, fear, and despair as he realizes his son whom he never wanted to be out on the seas in the first place has been doomed to the Dutchman is so palpable.
This movie and like many other show how much the movie industry been on a spiral down in its movies. It wasn’t even long ago when movies were the epitome of what emotions you got from it and a lesson that could be learned even if it wasn’t always a happy one but now it’s just about money. You can see it in old Disney movie to now

No. Jones was merely cruel. Was he excessively cruel? For sure. But was he doing this for his own pleasure? No. The pain and agony the bond of love had put him through had caused this, and not letting go of those feelings of betrayal eventually led to his tragic downfall.

There's 3 Types of Villains. Truly Evil. Understandable, Relatable or Tragic. Anti-Hero. Davy Jones fits in with the second option, he's on par with Darth Vader for example. I think these are the best kind of villains because it shows that they could have been "good" but they have fallen due to life events, their mental state is the cause for them becoming like they are, his monstrous appearance is also a metaphor for his mind dealing with what happened. Saying that though, Truly Evil villains are always really interesting to me because they go beyond the par with disturbing and enjoying what they do, sadistic even. I think the best truly evil villain I've seen is Palpatine.

They could bring back Davy Jones or create many new characters but now without Captain Jack Sparrow in it, I don't know if it will be the same. Yet I am sure for only thing, if they try to replace Captain Jack Sparrow, they will ruin everything. Anyway future will tell.
