It depends on how fast you are going if you are coming to a stop then yes you will use your back or front brake but if you are just taking your time slowing down then you wouldn't brake. One reason to downshift is because it puts less pressure on your brakes which will help them to last longer.

When u downshifting do you apply pressure on the front brake? Also do to apply pressure on the back brake too?
Next time take the exhaust off.
