I'm only 15 years old, and I'm currently in a trade school learning Modern Automotive Technology, and I wanted to setup my pneumatic tools in my garage. This video is insane, it shows you everything from simple 1 step no brainers to the technical aspects of compressors, tools, and what not. This is the only video out there on the entire topic of Pneumatic Tool Setup.

Leah, thank you so much! A friend gave me a compressor with a brad nailer/stapler. I have chairs I'm reupholstering and wanted to use the air stapler but had no idea what I needed. I knew about different coupler sizes but had no idea of the connections and how to fit the hose. You've cleared up a lot for me. And I must tell you, I've gone to both Lowe's and Home Depot and while the clerks are helpful in directing me to the correct aisle, NO ONE has EVER taken the time to show me how to use the equipment. When I asked about purchasing a nailer, the clerk, on that occasion, pointed me to the aisle but then told me I'd have to buy all the other equipment (compressor, etc). Instead of sticking around, he just took off. He had no idea that he might have made a sale if he had just taken the time to actually show me the tools I needed and a quick demo on how to use them. I was so angry, I left the store (Home Depot in this case) and never went back for any of their tools! In the meantime, I've purchased tools as I need them. Your videos have made a world of difference for me!

I just bought an air compressor last year. The instructions were pretty vague, but I knew enough to set it up and to use it. What I didn't know and learned from this video, is that the tool will still be operational when the tank/compressor stops when reaching a certain PSI. I've always used it during and when it stopped, would wait, release air, and try again. lol I'm a total noob, but now I knew better. This will help with future projects as I'm not a particular fan of the noise and always wondered how people in videos were using their air compressor tools and you can't hear the air compressor running. I feel more like a pro now after watching this. I appreciate the use of the proper vernacular so as to also educate. Good stuff.

I wish I had watched this video when I got my first compressor 13 years ago, it would have saved me so much headache learning things from trial and error. The only tip I would add that often gets left out is that the moisture needs to be released from the bottom of the tank regularly to avoid rusting out the tank. I learned this the somewhat hard way. By the time I heard about it, I had used the compressor so much without draining it that rust started to develop on the bottom of the tank. A rusty tank can be a hazard, with catastrophic and potentially deadly consequences if the rust reaches the tank's welded seam. Thankfully I noticed it was time to replace my compressor when it kept leaking down without holding pressure, and not via major seam explosion. Lesson learned, I plan to always drain the moisture petcock on the bottom of my new tank at the end of every project.

Bought our first portable air compressor yesterday, at Harbor Freight. We explicitly told them we knew nothing about the product's setup and asked the sales rep to show us everything we'd need to buy to get it running with an air hammer.
Result: They sold us the wrong hose size, and mentioned nothing about needing couplers and plugs. Grrrr.
So of course, (after losing 1/2 a day's work on our reno project) we turned to Leah to figure out what we needed. Thanks, Leah!

Leah....you're an absolute God-send to us mere mortals. It seems like every teacher out there is more concerned with showing us their endless level of knowledge, as opposed to helping people actually learn. And, make NO mistake....there is a HUGE difference between the two. Thank you for all you do, and knowing how incredibly important the "basics" are. As a music teacher I have a saying I tell my students. There is no such thing as "advanced", or "master" level of anything.....just people who have a complete/thorough understanding of the basics, and those who don't.

You spoke clearly and your rate was perfect so that one could understand you. You sure had your ducks in a row. Hey Leah! Thanks for the video. See even old dogs such as myself can still learn. I have seen seasoned mechanics waive using Teflon tape simply because they felt it "too much effort" for a temporary setup. I've mentioned that "sealing the threads" from leaks is just one of many reasons that thread tape is important.
There's a natural covalent bond that occurs between two like and dissimilar metals. What that means; an electrical charge passes between the two materials upon contact which promotes corrosion, thread tape helps prevent this phenomena. (MIL-STD-186F)
Most importantly, it guards against "cross threading" or "galling" your threads (damage). I enjoyed your video so keep them coming.

    Leah, THANK YOU!
My car tires were low. I went to BJ'S to use their air compressor. Instead of putting air in, it came out. I went back the next week and it was still broken. I drove all the way out to WaWa. Their compressor was broken too. I went to Mavis Discount Tire Store and a nice worker inflated my tires.
I decided then and there I was buying an air compressor. I bought a Kobalt 6 pound pancake air compressor.
I thought everything came with the compressor. Silly me! I bought a 25' Craftsman's rubber hose and Kobalt connector set with a blow gun and air chuck.
Wasn't totally sure how to connect everything together until now. Your video was both educational and enjoyable, thank you for giving me the confidence to set up my air compressor and usd it.

Only use oil specifically labeled "air oil" or "air tool oil". Some of the oil used in air tools gets into the air you are breathing as a fine mist. Air oil is safe to breathe (castor oil I think), while other types of oil (e.g. engine oil) are mineral oil with additives which will be bad for your lungs.
Sorry if this is already covered, I just skimmed this video.

I’m English living in France so naturally my new compressor came with instructions in Spanish. No problem thanks to google translate I now understand that the air hose should consist of three cables of minimum 2.5 mm and be completely unrolled so as to act as a reservoir. Thank goodness for your simple explanations!

I swear! I only wandered in for a quickie tutorial, strictly business! But I suddenly found myself seduced and entranced by your motivational 'you can do it!' sweet nothings... Oh, music to my aching ears! Now I'm hooked, I'm all in! And forever I'll be a faithful subscriber, the best one you ever had! That is, if we can do this together, just me and you... (Don't make me beg, baby!)

Peter Hewel I have a 20 horse Powerex that puts out 60 SCFM and has multiple 200 gallon tanks but it weighs over 2000 pounds I'm really not gonna take that with me anywhere.

destiny walker I do mobile soda blasting with a 13 hp Eaton has rig with 60 gal tank and the same pump on a 10 hp electric with 120 gal tank. I added a 7.5 hp 80 gallon of a well known brand too make more air. It ran 100% of the time. After about 1000 hours, had to replace pump. Set me back almost $1000. You run a little direct drive 100 hours, especially at 50% duty cycle you will kill it.

Thank you for this it's helped me out loads, just got a Hyundai 50 Litre Air Compressor, 11CFM/100psi, Oil Free, Low Noise. Then got some connectors and tools which Amazon recommended. and they did not fit wasted around £30. because I got them when I bought the Compressor. a few months later when I came to use it. they were no good. with watching this and getting some info from PodpadStudios. I have now bought the right ones. This is the best Tutorial I have seen on UA-cam regarding a Compressor. Thank you so much from Liverpool England.

"If you have ever wanted to learn how to use an air compressor, so that you can use air tools, today is your lucky day." Leah Bolden, May 1, 2014
. I have wanted to learn how to use and which type to purchase for over a decade. I have gotten close a few times but backed out as to lack of knowledge and concern I was making an expensive and wrong purchase. Going to watch this video then most likely starting using one tomorrow. SeeJaneDrill is the best!

I received a pancake compressor from a relative, (no manual), and had no idea how to hook it up, but I managed to buy hose and fittings, and used it for years airing tires and blowing dirt out of air filters. Now I want to use it for spraying fluid film on the cars, and wanted to try adding a storage tank to see if that will be good enough. I learned a lot from your explanations and seeing your pressure regulator and tools in operation! Thanks!!

I kept looking for some good instruction on how to set up the hoses and couplers and the like. Most of the videos are in fast forward. This was outstanding on so many levels, thoroughness of information, ease of understanding and actually explaining how to do this and what everything was. I think maybe a lot of instruction videos assume people know what all of these details are. Thank you so much!
