  • Tata Motors gave us the Tigor EV electric car to us for 4 days. We took on a 375 km road trip. We used Zeon Fast Chargers to charge the car.
Was it fun? Was it terrible!? Did we run out of charge!?

Guys I think you planned this wrong. This is going out as a wrong message for the people thinking about buying EV. For such a small trip of 375 KM only one stop was required around Midway and same time you can have food and recharge. Hence saving lot of time.

Love for the channel. I don’t know what to say about these converted kits with such low range. Over 2 hrs of charging time for 375 kms is disappointing.. sigh.. Hopefully, we will see a car that can go atleast 400 kms in real world at highways speeds. Until then, I am happy watching videos than owning one. 😅

The MG ZS EV and the upcoming 40KW Tata Nexon EV will do this trip with 1 stop. Also the International Large Battery Hyundai Kona EV (not yet launched in India) might do this trip without a charging break at all. So the technology is clearly present and the above mentioned cars charge at 50 KW speeds atleast. As we start getting 150 KW fast charging EVs with around 75 KW battery, I think road trips will be easier than ICE Cars. Watch out for Hyundai Ioniq 5 which is an awesome EV coming to India. In the next few years we will see a lot of such EV and after Batteries get made in India, we might even get them at the cost of current Nexon EV. Just like the EV 2 Wheeler Market, the EV 4 Wheeler Market will transition to EVs faster than we expect.

Do account for the upfront extra cost of the car. The extra amount which you shell out currently for the electric car over the petrol car put in a good investment will pay your fuel appropriately. The cost of the electric car should come down. Charging speed should increase. For a 300 km ride and waiting for 2.5 hrs is not good.

For 375km, it will cost 1900/ for me as diesel car owner . So accordingly You are saving 950/- for this entire trip using electronic Car. Initially to purchase an electronic Car we need to spend around 5-6 lakhs more + interest on loan. To recover this additional amount spent on purchase, it will take 7-8 years min and meanwhile we will get the time to change the battery, again it will cost 5 lakhs 😳. So always this gap will be there. Except the pollution control EV Cars are not economical as of now. Try to calculate and let me know if I am wrong 👍

Until and unless we use solar or wind energy for charging EV it is not environment friendly rather it is polluting more than IC engines..

In real world scenario, there are zero chances that you can provide charging for all customers even if you have multiple charging points.. Considering the actual driving time to be similar, it's obvious that traveling in an electric car is full of hassles on the highway. Especially considering that you may not have a high speed charger and an available charging space for you - like how Zeon were waiting for you in your ideal case scenario. The drop in battery 🔋 percentage so significantly over just 1 hr of charging shows clearly that electric cars are not suitable for highway driving. 😑

Dammmmmmmm 7hours for just 375 km this has to change ….I wish it will change in my life time (I know for this our people have to be more educated about road traffic rules and regulations and infrastructure has to be develop in international standards )and when it comes to EV’s naaaa not for me, my requirements are more demanding rage should be at least 800 km , I want to be with peace of mind not to worry about range I currently drive xc60 full tank range is 950 km and when I drive around Europe mostly from Sweden to south Germany or west Germany I will drive nonstop even if I have to take fuel break it’s usually around 10 min and I can forget about range for next 950 km , may be automotive companies should more focus on hybrid technologies (both electric drive and combustion drive ) so people don’t have to spend hours of time on charging and have to plan the trip much in advance or ends up on side of road searching for ev charge stations . It’s just my opinion on my requirement basis

Govt should make GST 5% in the initial phase instead of 18 percent for charging a car, 18 percent quite high
    Please raise this issue

Sir it was indeed a very articulated documentary. Thanks to you. But given that the govt wants to promote EVs, it doesnt make sense spending so much time at an charging station. The stations have max 3 to 4 points and what if you see a bunch of cars already plugged in? EV OEMS should either install far more charging points like they’ve got in China OR reduce charging time to 80pc to 10/15mins. Plus whats the fuzz of using a smartphone for charging,it could have been done without it, what if one has lost his phone or some other mishap. The premium we pay on combustion cars is totally worth the tension and stress one has to go thru when driving an ev on long haul. Till then EVs are a NO buy. I say EVs have a long way to go before they become feasible for an everyday joe. I had big, really big hopes on EVs myself but now I’ll wait for hydrogen fuel cell cars to takeover till the EV comes of age.

Actually they only needed one stop for a 375 KM trip. If they leave at 100% battery from home and stop just once midway for a meal and recharge there it's perfect. I think they wanted to show all the chargers that's why they planned different

It’s easy to stop at Sankagiri and complete the journey.
As Tigor owners are getting more than 200 km per charge.

Ev should come with replaceable batteries. Because spending hours of time at charging stations would not be affordable. "Time is money." For battery replacement will take minimum time not more than 10 to 15 mins if at the time of manufacturing ... Battery placement should be in that order to replace it easily.

The gentleman is not calculating that even EV vehicles need periodic maintenance, he is just calculating charging amount of ₹950.00 for the whole trip of 380kms and then comparing with IC engine cost of driving same kms. Also what’s the price difference between actual price of IC engine and EV car
What’s the break even between both the prices ..??
