My battery bank is 48,000mAh, and I have two (because 1 is none)... What I need is to get solar so these can be recharged off-grid. It's good for a few days, using my medical equipment every night, mine has 3USB ports and a single 110AC outlet.. Great video!!
I love these draping solar batteries, because they hang from my pack & I can keep all comms charged. They do sell a New larger battery, with a C port. You can put these things on the windshield and they charge fairly quickly.
The very first solar unit I bought was $200 and had 2 5V each power banks. I should have waited because they're much better & cheaper now.😬 I like the orange one you got. Run little bunny, run!🐰 Blessings. 💙
Thanks Grey, I have too many of these battery banks. I love having them and I gave them to my kids as stocking staffers last year. Santa also gave them portable solar generators they can keep in the tents while camping with my grand babies.
I have a similar Solar one. Haven’t had it very long and it’s been raining, so charged it with the usb. I have a 4 pack of walkie talkies that can be charged with it to save on batteries.
Hi GreyMan, catching up on your videos, I don't always leave a comment but I'm so glad you showed these. I need to get one that's solar. I like the orange one, easy to see, I have an emergency one with small battery cables to jump my car, but it only takes a wall charge. I use it all the time outside when working.
I have a few. I also have a solar travel unit that has 4 panels and folds up. I can then charge my 5v banks. You can clip them to your Bergen/pack as you go by clips.
@RICHARDMOORE1959 I would love to know more if you were able to test and possibly even reach a conclusion on which one you have found to be the best bang for the buck?
I enjoy the hikes. The only solar I have is in my van with a 12 volt battery and inverter. My wish list includes a couple of the solar power bricks for bug out situations and a larger generator for hunkering down at home. God Bless, and thank you.
Good video. Thanks for sharing. I use a combination of a foldable 18w solar panel and battery banks for camping and hiking. I found that most of the banks with the integrated solar panels take a very long time charge which is why I invested in a foldable solar panel to charge the banks that way. I also bought USB battery chargers for my camera batteries so I can recharge in the wilderness or at camp. For camping I use the battery banks for USB lighting and phone charging at night, and recharge them during the day. I also have a 9" USB fan that will work in a power down situation or out camping. It's amazing the stuff that can be powered off USB now days. Like you said it's a good cheap alternative to bigger solar banks. Also most if not all battery banks capacity numbers are based off 3.7volts not the 5 volt output that USB uses, so actual capacity (mAh) numbers based off the USB output vary. Some manufacturers will list both capacity ratings on the battery banks, incase people ask
Great info G Mac, thank you. I've been looking at a few options like your talking about. I currently keep a 500w portable power station and 2 100w solar panels. They also have USB to USB or type C connectors built in the solar panels which is nice. I've seen some foldable and roll up panels I'm thinking about experimenting with.
NRA really, that's pretty cool. I've noticed as solar & battery technology improves so do these devices. I have one from about 4 years ago that it would take 2-3 days to charge the bank to full capacity. My current one depending of course on the weather and time of day about 6-9 hrs roughly.
My pleasure Dale, it's nice to have alternate means of charging devices like these incase we don't have access to traditional charging methods. Have a great evening 😁👍
I've never been a fan of any device where the batteries are housed in the same place as one or more of the solar cells. Or to put it another way, where the solar cells are mounted on the device itself (radio, torch, battery pack etc). My reason is that no battery likes high temperature, and sitting the whole device in full sunlight for any length of time cannot help but transfer solar heat into the batteries. I vastly prefer the flexible solar panels that are very light, come in many sizes, and usually have a USB 5V output, and often 12V as well. The flexibility of having a discrete (separate) solar panel is fantastic, as you can charge multiple devices in succession, or even simultaneously if conditions are right. Also, I can move the panel around easily to face the sun, and run a cable back to my tent which might be in the shade. But the biggest advantage is that I can keep the batteries cool, OUT of the sun, while the panels are doing their thing.
Some great points, I do keep mone or the older one, on my dash to charge, no issues yet, but I've had other battery devices have issues in the heat, I'll have to test the new one and old one and see how they compare. I did a video several weeks ago and I showed a 100w solar panel that has usb A, QC, Type C as well as dc barrel connection which I think is awesome. Similar to what your describing. I do agree though that having them separate incase one fails or the heat does create damage. I've seen 18650 batteries vent due to extreme heat so it makes sense. Thanks for sharing your perspective. 👍
I don't have a solar bank to speak of , though I do have a small batteries bank and the harbor freight solar briefcase. Despite any bad reviews on it I will say it does exactly what says it will. It charges at 12v and 24v.
@@GreyManPrepping they work really good, had a dead batterie in the car getting to work one day, i used the solar briefcase with the terminal clamp connectors and by the end of my 7 hour work shift the batterie was charged enough to make it back home and to the store for a new one.
well gray here comes another long one. the first one I ever got was from my Patriot Supply and it was fantastic actually it still working and I got it about 5 years ago I have given it to my son and he still uses it. I have several that I got from for Patriots and they aren't worth a crap they do great in the beginning they'll take a charge really easy from the micro USB that's it I stuck one and the Sun for 6 days and it only got to one light it would never fully charge and I tried the rest of them and the they did the same. once you use them about three or four times they would recharge with the USB but they wouldn't recharge from the Sun and they wouldn't charge anything up such as your phone Etc. complete pieces of crap I tried sending one back and they sent me another one and it done the same thing I kept letting them know what they were doing or weren't doing and finally all I got was crickets from them they just quit contacting me so lesson learned I suppose. but I did get one from Angel survival I think I'm not real sure that the name of it now but it's just like the ones that you're showing now and I haven't gotten any more than one light to charge up and I've set them directly in the Sun I think for only four days on the one from Angel but as long as they'll work I'll use them and I've done the same thing that you have done there in all of my packs in my vehicle when my wife was alive she carried one my grandson and my granddaughter both have one as does my son so they do come in handy most definitely I just wish there was a way to be able to plug a wire into the USB that had prongs on it for 110 but I don't think they do that. anyway Yep they're great as long as you can keep them working as far as charging them from the Sun well all I've had haven't charged very well from the Sun. anyway I'm going to check out the ones you have in your description and see how those go thanks a lot gray I certainly appreciate the video. keep ye powder dry
So far these have worked well for me, I put them on my truck dashboard to charge sometimes when I'm out hunting or camping. Anywhere from 8-14 hrs depending on the sun to charge them up. I've had the other one for about 3 years or so If I recall correctly. Have a great night brother.
I carry mine everywhere I go, for my flashlights/headlamps, backup phone power, and communication Radios "walkie-talkies lol. I guess it depends on how mobile you are, and honestly it's just nice to have reserve power if needed for an emergency situation. Even if it's not something you use often keep it charged and put it in the car or somewhere it may come in handy. 😁
On average in here in FL, 5-8 hrs depending on time of day and weather for instance sunny day around noon or cloudy days around 5pm. Hopefully that helps answer your question.
Unfortunately not Linda, My current schedule is tight, I hope to have a few over the next few months, My business partner and I just launched a new business, dealing with the packing and preparing for the move, my daughter's volleyball games and so on. So my apologies. Hopefully things will get back to some structure by the end of the year. The upcoming move is going to be crazy lol. But I'll end up doing some videos of that process as well. Being in Florida, anything solar is good 😆👍
