I never take a closer look too the keeping of those ditches. Now I had learned, that it is a sisyphos challange. It must be a never ending story keeping all that blades sharp. But the skills of that operator are remarkable.
Cows would love it if this would came from cleaner enviroment, water comes from fields, people spray stuff to fields. Hard to say how clean water is. In other hand we eat what stuff which was sprayed :D

I knew about the hay harvesting process using similar machines. But the fact that a digger collects grass from the streams and then threshes it and puts it into a machine similar to the one that makes hay bales... I had no idea, despite the similarities.

@@bill45colt same as with all other compost, either a you make compost for yourself, just leaving in some storage outside untill it becomes compost later just use it on same field, or b some compost company collects it and makes compost when sells to people for gardening.
During my childhood a farm i grew up on they used to have an Atlas with dredge buckets wide and narrow for the junction areas of the drainage ditches. Every couple years times to be just after the lime spreading completion.
Hello Noah, In large agriculturally related businesses, round bales may be easily un-rolled by farmers in their fields to feed animals, are more efficient to produce (time, fuel and labor), and are more stable in shape for transport and storage. A company in the Pella, Iowa, USA by the name of Vermeer, has manufactured ag implements for large round bale prouction for many years. Pella's residents have ancesters from The Netherlands.
I see your points, but I think this Special roundbaler is very expensive and you can't feed animals with the bales. So isn't it cheaper just to put it on a Trailer? (From Germany)
Because when you use a trailer and you want to run continusly you have to run 2 trailer with 2 extra tractors and 2 extra people that also costs a lot so this probably is a cheaper option then.
Don't know in this case, but the other side of that ditch could be another owners land. Sometimes owners do this together, sometimes not. It's up to the owners of the land, as long as it's cleaned out by a certain date.
I never take a closer look too the keeping of those ditches. Now I had learned, that it is a sisyphos challange. It must be a never ending story keeping all that blades sharp. But the skills of that operator are remarkable.
well the skill of the driver is learned because in the fall they do it all day almost every day and the blades are only sharpened i think once a year
Sander Van Middelaar no, my dad cleans also the ditches and after 1 day he needs to sharpen the blades

Another unique machine. The Dutch are very innovative in ways to keep their land drained.

The Dutch are very innovative in pretty everything regarding agricolture ;)
This is not new at all what so ever. Poclain made this very tool over 30 years ago. I’ve lots of books about them.

I do love Dutch farming.Theres so many interesting crops grown and machines used!
I like the details of the process and the information about what's happening :)
That is such a brilliant idea especially how dry the season we had last year they would be perfect for cows the cows wold love them
Can this be fed to cows with the fertilizer & pesticide runoff ?
I wouldn't feed it to my cattle, the look of it alone is enough to say "dump it"! I dont think anyone feeds it to stock, just a convenient way i guess

Compost for garden
Thanks for adding text.
In the USA we call that compostable rope hay twan
Here in the UK we spell it hay twine.. ;-)
Is collecting this vegetation necessary? the ditch looks clean enough.
It probably wouldn't look that clean after they let everything grow for a few years.
Its illegal not to clean out those ditches once every year orso. They are the things that keep the lands dry and therefore of high importance

Why Always roundbales? You could also use a simple Trailer...

How about "cleaning equipment after work" special?

Don't know in this case, but the other side of that ditch could be another owners land. Sometimes owners do this together, sometimes not. It's up to the owners of the land, as long as it's cleaned out by a certain date.
Quite a slow process, and the far bank is being missed.
@Samuel Lynch bigger machine, all the vegetation on the far bank will die and fall in and cause a blockage 🤦🏼♂️
chezzylee maybe it’s from a other farmer, and not the owner
@@ageroorda783 no, lets say there's 2 farmers, one on either side of the drain... They will both pay drainage rates. Should be cutting both sides

What do they do with the bales? Are they used for something or just left to decompose?
Biogas, they could. Or just compost them.
