Hi everyone, so sorry for the long delay in responding to everyone’s comments, I got half way through them before being totally focused on our summer exploits in Milford Haven, things have finally quietened down now, so time to catch up! Reg
I was moved to tears when I recently saw the video series “Restoring Josefine”. I sailed and lived on her for 5 months in 1968. I was passionately in love with her. I’m thrilled to discover that she is back at sea and with two people so devoted to her renaissance. You may be interested to learn that I wrote about my time with Josefine in a memoir called Tamar at Sea. My book was launched in May 2024, just two weeks before you set sail! Imagine the synchronicity, that all the while I was delving deep into one chapter of Josefine’s history, you were busy uncovering it too!
Hi Tamar, that is fantastic, we would love to make contact and hear more about your experiences. I have sent you our contact details using the 'Contact' function on your Web site. When we bought Josefine, we were in contact with the Danish family that almost certainly owned her when you knew her and we are in touch with the people who bought her after that, in fact we might well be meeting up with them this week! Coincidentally, if we live long enough, we are hoping one day to sail Josefine over to British Colombia! Look forward to hearing from you. Reg
A picture of beauty leaving the dock, what a satisfying moment for you both in your epic rebuilding. Well done, best wishes for a wonderful journey and life.
Like most of us, I've never done anything particularly original, special or, even less, exceptional in my life... In fact, I'm particularly in awe of people who, at the time, were considered by many to be mad, but who have shown so much courage, resilience and willpower to achieve their dream! You have my utmost respect and admiration! Long live Joséphine and her crew!
Taking on the task of saving Josephine was no light decision, seeing it through to such a successful completion represents a very significant amount of equity in the “you only get out what you put in to life” fund. You two have earned every single second of joy that Josephine brings. Well done! 😎👍🍻
As usual, outstanding footage ….Enjoy Josefine, enjoy her beauty, enjoy her history, enjoy what you both did…Now she is yours to captain and yours to admire her soul… Congratulations…
This episode is really exceptional. Really enjoyed the detailed explanation, drone footage, and maps about navigation out to sea. Really fascinating. Well done!
You two people are a huge credit to people of our generation, you were handed a poison chalice and through sheer strength of character you tufned that poison into good wine . I get a tear in my eye when I think of the anguish ye must have had to endure . Thank you so much and I hope our paths cross some day .
Thank you John, it's lovely of you to say so, it's really our privilege to be able to share some of these moments and such a pleasure to receive feedback from everyone. Reg
I love your optimism writing the destination after the arrow in the log book... 😉 I prefer the word 'Towards' and keep my fingers crossed metaphorically.... I'm welling up myself to see you've made it after all your trials and tribulations, well done both of you!!
Thank you Jonathan, I know what you mean, I keep a ‘rough’ log book for contemporaneous entries and write up the copperplate log in the calm of ‘later’, when we have ‘arrived’. The cover on our day book reads “Not all those that wander are lost” I think that’s a good guide to life in general!
Really enjoyed watching you rebuild josefine, imagine our surprise when we pulled up in Milford haven in our motorhome and you are there moored right in front of us,and she looks even greater is real life, wish you all the very best with your onward travels Neil+kaye
Hi Neil and Kaye, I think I may have seen your motorhome that evening, we were making last minute plans for our return to Gloucester, you should have come down and had a chat, we are always ‘open house’ and we would have loved to welcome you on Josefine. Anyone who is a subscriber of our UA-cam channel is always welcome on board for a natter, cup of coffee and a look inside Josefine. Next time! Thank you for reaching out, new video very soon all about our experience in Milford Haven. Sorry for delay in replying (I am so far behind with correspondence) we had a an endless list of equipment failures to deal with in the last few days before departure, that consumed our attention! Cheers, Reg and Randie.
Aw thank you reg and Randie, now you have invited us ,we will come and meet you next time, would love to have a walk about josefine Best of luck with your adventure Stay safe Neil+kaye
Hello you 2 xx I saw you a lot in Gloucester, I am friends with Jack & Eve and Colin and Viv x we never met but I used to wave at you every time I passed you. Huge credit to you! What a wonderful, inspiring film!!! I wish you all the best, love your humility, bravery and warmth ❤️. Looking forward to seeing your adventures unfold ❤️❤️❤️
Been following you from the beginning, what a milestone, my heart is lifted, Josephine, such a beautiful ship, she looks resplendant in her new clothes, Randy and yourself must be so proud, i can understand why you would be choking up, i was too.. beautiful calligraphy, is there nothing you can't do.! 👍🍺⛵🇦🇺
Oh plenty!🙂 but yes we are delighted to have got this far and it was a very emotional moment. We are looking forward to sharing our new challenges as we work out how to live and cruise on Josefine at sea. Thank you.
After all the years of hard graft the Gods must have decided to reward you with a couple of smiling days of well deserved sheer joy ,I wish wish you many more but days like that are the SIRENS so NEVER let your guard down !All the very best of luck on this new endeavour . Pete
Great episode!! Excellent explanation of your initial route down the Severn and Sharpness - steep learning curve. Look forward to the amazing journeys you are bound to have.
Well done guys, understand you get a bit emotional. It's quite something what you've achieved and bitten through the hardtimes. God luck and fair winds to you both.Love your videos, keep them coming . Cheers.
Thank you so much for your support, we look forward to sharing more of our experiences, we think anyone who has followed them so far, deserves to see it through!😄
You have done such an incredible job. I have followed your project almost from the start. I am so amazed and so impressed with what you achieved. I suppose what your showing us now is what you envisaged when buying Josefine. You deserve it, you more than deserve Josefine and Josefine more than deserves you.....marvelous !
`Congratulations on the completion of Josefine,as a retired 86 year old Shipwright and live aboard owner of a 12 ton,Mahogony on Oak,Gaffed rigged Ketch, i have enjoyed your journey from the first, fair winds,i will condinue to enjoy your adventures,[i sail on San Francisco bay].
Reg, what a sight, so happy for you both. Looking forwards to seeing her under sail. Pleased to see you recovered from the scare in the engine room, get those bearings fixed so you won’t loose more sleep. Yep, you’re right, it’s all worth it, the filth, sweat, tears, but also the learning new skills, the research of how to tie knots, plane wood, shape metal, pity youth is wasted on the young. Looking forward to your journeys abroad, and if you ever get to Sydney Australia, I’d love to meet you both.
Long time fan. Your courage patience long suffering and acquired skills are the stuff legends are made of! Not bad calligraphy either. Congrats and well done. Chris from tasmania.
Josephine's rebuild has been an epic tale. I have been angered (on your behalf), astounded, entertained and educated. It was so enjoyable to see you both on your way, aboard your wonderful boat.
Congratulations on a beautiful refit and a wonderful day out. It’s wonderful to see Josephine cut through those welcoming flat waters under an azure sky.
Bonjour Reg, I discover one of your hidden talent, the art of writing, with a pen furthermore, so uncommon when every one has a laptop. Besides this, you have lived a stressful moment with your engine room and I would have liked to see the cause of the issue and the parts you will have to enhance. You don' build any longer, that does not mean you have no maintenence to deal with so I would like to see more of your work, share your various skillness ! No sexism in the question, who is cooking ? Randy and/or you 😉? What food did you take on board ? Amicalement, Raphaël
Way to go guys!!!! Well done been watching from the beginning its been a hell of a journey and I am glad to see you finally getting on to the good stuff :)
Pleased to see an update on your life! And that you and Randy are well.. Tried sailing recently but once you've flown yourself around it all seems to happen too slowly!
I would have loved to have been able to wave you goodbye, but time and tide....... You've made the transition to sailing channel immaculately; brilliant storytelling!
Well done to both of you. Fantastic achievement. Thanks also for your words of encouragement for others undertaking a similar rebuild. I have been rebuilding my 90 year old gaffer ( which I sailed in company with josafine on many accasions a few years ago) its been a huge undertaking but I am slowly making progress. I look forward to maybe one day sailing in company once again. Thanks again and best wishes.
So made up that you're in the 'oggin' now. I've followed your rebuild almost from the start I think. Will admit it was Tommy's yard that drew my because Nigel P?????? is an old mate of mine from 35ish years ago in Spain. Josefine is looking superb, a credit to your efforts. Looking forward to some sailing now as I'm sure you both are. Love 'n' peace to you both. Happy Sailing.
Brilliant, huge congratulations, a new chapter of this adventure has begun. Enjoy. Peace and love and may the wind be at your back and may you have gentle following seas!
