    Bonjour Randy and Reg,
    Your sailing experience and all the events you lived would have deserved a few hours of videos !
    Seeing Josefine with most all of her sails is a huge pleasure of course, but sharing your problems and solutions is also part of the adventure that yous should share with us.
    I hope your mother is fine and that you could appreciate your journey in France.
    See you with your next video,
    Amicalement, Raphaël

    Looks to be lovely country and great for walks. Nice to have that large wheel house especially on rainy days too. All that incredibly hard, down on your knees work is really rewarding you now. BTW doubling lines, especially with an outboard line fore and aft in addition to spring and breast lines, is always a good idea. Thank you for this and smooth sailing to you both.

    Hi R& R , a fine tale well told, looks like a pretty successful shakedown cruise especially the full sail hoists. Is it practical to anchor astern with a kedge to stop her wandering about in a swell , ? I Have had some peace on a much smaller boat using that method . best wishes for your Mum.

    Thank you "so much", Randy and Reg, for letting us follow you on your journey.
    I especially love the commentary re: looking down on your lovely vessel from a hill above the anchorage. This brought back so many lovely memories for me. I used to own a 30 ft. Dutch design wooden cutter, I finished from a hull and deck. Also loved admiring her from a hill above the anchorage. So, thanks for that. Also, thanks again for sharing, nothing better than that lifestyle.

    We saw you sailing about, we live in Pembs and keep our boat on the river. We had some unsettled weather which made it interesting but we can go and hide back on the mooring. We anchored up by you just past lawrenny. Hope you had a lovely summer sailing!

    Josefine sitting there like a jewel, at anchor, breathtaking.
    I hope you both felt as satisfied and fulfilled at your achievement in breathing new life into that lovely lady as you have every right to. She is a huge credit to your determination to make her right and whole again.
    I’m sorry to have missed your passages past the Fal, perhaps next year you’ll pop in? There are a good selection of moorings and anchorages that will give you good cover in a blow from pretty much any direction.
    There’s always the Falmouth classics / tall ships festival event, I’m absolutely certain that you’d be made very welcome indeed if you chose to be around while it’s going on.
    As I saw another person mentioned, doubling up on your mooring lines is a good way to go, I can also thoroughly recommend using a decently dimensioned plaited warp for its elasticity and chafe characteristics too.
    I’m sure you’ve already got them in hand, but in case not the self aligning pillow block bearings for your ancillary drive shaft assembly should be available from SKF bearings. They’re industrial lego really and not horribly pricey for good quality complete replacements.
    Wishing you a pleasant time in France and all the best for your Mum’s recovery.
    Cheers, R. 😎👍🍻

    Thank you for an absolutely fabulous travel log. I hope it's not indelicate to ask, do just the two of you crew Josephine? I single-hand my little cruising boat, but everything is led to the cockpit. Handling Josephine must be quite a challenge.

    Sorry to hear about your mooring line on the pontoon. Have you considered using Dyneema considering the weight draft and length of Josefine?

    • @danielhicks7141
      @danielhicks7141 3 дні тому

      The trouble with Dyneema mooring lines is there is no stretch in it. The result is much more strain on the fittings than you get with lines that have some stretch in them.

    • @davidantill6949
      @davidantill6949 3 дні тому

      @danielhicks7141 good point . Perhaps insert a metal spring or rubber spring into the line

    Well. That went well. Basically. Very nice footage and editing. Methinks that Josephine could be quite a handful for just the two of you so good thinking to get lots of practice in before embarking on anything too ambitious. Good work. I'll be watching for future adventures. Cheers.

    Hey Reg & Randy, you’re doing great work. There’s no shame at all in giving things ago, having the courage to take things on, especially as you advance in years. All credit to you and especially because you’ll see and experience things many others will never contemplate. Fair winds amigos

    Brilliant !!! Really pleased you have completed your first season :)
    After all the work you have done to her, you were always going to have a few teething problems. It could have been far worse !
    By next season, they will all be ironed out, and you will have a great time :)
    It is Spring here in New Zealand. I'm getting a few jobs done on Tangaroa (1953 Lanes 40) ready for my Summer cruise just after Christmas.
    Kind regards, John.

    just going to say if you have a 50ft boat and up, you need to keep sailing as the marinas will rip you off big time, better off putting your own mooring down and paying council or harbour authority around the £200 mark, also as you are in the A hole of the uk look up rudders boat yard, im sure they will help you out even if its for a deep water mooring

    Great job - some beautiful views and good examples of cruising challenges, particularly a large, old boat & light crew. You seem to be taking it all in your stride as part of your own taking-up. The risk for many is overthinking these minor events, catastrophising potential disasters - at least one reason so many boats fail to leave the dock.

  • @georgemorris9971
    @georgemorris9971 3 дні тому

    Good to see that you're alive and well - I was just a little concerned. It does not look paericularly relaxing. How on earth did they navigate the Bristol Channel and Severn Estuary under sail? Who would have thought that Gloucester docks would seem like a welcome relief? Huge congratulations on what you have achieved.
